Searching Yelp to find a lovely afternoon tea in Portland, Skywater Tea House popped up with the best reviews. It's not in Portland proper, but we were willing to drive to the suburbs to celebrate my sister-in-law's birthday. We promptly made a reservation, which is essential at this cozy establishment. The cancellation fee was a bit daunting, but it's understandable given how flaky people are. Once we arrived, we waited in the reception area and savored the mellow ambience and classical music. Soon, are server led us to a beautiful private alcove where the wide variety of tea cups reminded us of our mother, who used to collect them. Then, he presented us with a tiny bowl with a hot towel for our fingers. Since the afternoon tea menu ($60 per person, all inclusive, including the tip) is the same for everyone, the only decision we had to make was which tea to drink. With at least 30 exotic choices, including special teas that are an additional $5.00, it took us awhile. Wild Thai Green, featuring sweet honey and flowery top notes of roasted hazelnut and tropical fruits, appealed to me. It wasn't long until each of us received our individual ample pots of tea. We were also presented with a sensational amuse bouche, a panna cotta with rich cream, a strawberry and cookies. Three tiers of goodies followed, along with clotted cream, jam and lemon curd. We started at the bottom with five delicious sandwiches - cucumber and cream cheese, egg salad, ham and cheese, chicken crostini, prosciutto crostini - and yummy potato salad. On the second tier, we cleansed our palettes with the fresh strawberries. I felt like I was back in England when I slathered my plain scone with clotted cream and jam. By the time I finished the one with currants, I was surprisingly full. I love pastries, but I couldn't eat another bite. Neither could my companions. Fortunately, our wonderful server brought us boxes to safely package our gorgeous cupcake, snow covered brownie, and sweet cookies. Later that night, we devoured this delicious sugar fest. The pretty pink frosting on the cupcake was super, the brownie was rich, and the cookies were good and crunchy. Kudos to the chef, who is truly an artist. We couldn't have picked a better place for our gathering. What a sky high experience!

I love a good English style afternoon tea, and this place seemed a good one to try. The online booking system was easy to navigate and I found a date that worked with my schedule, 11am on the last day of 2023. It was a foggy morning, and we were the first ones in the door. The ambiance was very classy, but also calming and comfortable. The tea room itself was small, but did not feel cramped. Everything was immaculately clean (including the bathroom), and the slightly minimalist style of the tables, decorations, and china was characterized by cool whites, with silvers and blues. Very elegant but not stuffy. The person who helped us was very knowledgeable and contributed to the quiet, contemplative atmosphere. The menu consists of all of the teas available, while the food is a set selection of traditional tea offerings. I was impressed by the selection of teas! White, black, green, oolong, pu'erh, favored, and herbal tisanes; all were on offer. I appreciated the flavor notes listed with each tea. I went with a traditional Irish breakfast. Each person could pick their own tea, my companion went with an unusual option, the name of which escapes me. Our tea was brewed in the kitchen, and came out in teapots, nice and hot, quickly followed by the food which was served on three tiers. Both of us were very happy with our tea selections. On the bottom tier were the savory sandwiches. Four kinds were served: cucumber and cream cheese, salmon, egg salad, ham, and toast topped with a chicken salad. All were excellent, very fresh and with great combinations of flavors. I especially liked the ham sandwich with the cheese melted on the top of the sandwich. Next, on the middle tier, were two scones for each person. One with currants and one plain. To go along with these, there was strawberry jam, clotted cream, and citrus curd. The scones were just right. Not too sweet, or too big, they were perfect with the tea. I loved the jam and clotted cream, which was very light in texture. The curd was also delicious. Finally on the top (we were slowing down at this point) were the sweet desserts. There were two Linzer tart cookies each, two gingerbread cupcakes and two lmint chocolate cakes. We were too full at this point to eat more than one of the Linzer cookies, so we elected to take the rest of our goodies home. The cookie was redolent of almond and raspberry jam, and was delicious. All the sweets were tasty, and I particularly liked the gingerbread cupcake. Service was polite and attentive, with several well-timed offers to brew us more tea. Since the tea was brewed in the kitchen, sometimes the tea in the pot would cool down on the table. But they checked in enough for this not to be a big problem. We also were offered a chance to try different tea with each brewing, which I like was a nice touch, especially with how extensive their tea menu was. I stuck with my breakfast tea, however. I really enjoyed it. This place is a gem. Great, classy atmosphere, wonderful fresh food in generous portions, huge tea selection and wonderful service; all this came together to create a wonderful winter tea. The perfect way to ring out 2023.

Glad to confirm that the great reviews and amazing photos are indeed accurate. What an absolute gem of a place. The ambience, decor, and manner of the space really transport you to a fancy highend tea service. You immediately feel relaxed when you sit down. Han was also provided a topnotched service, explaining the menu, serving us, and attentively checking in. We stayed overtime but nobody rushed us which we're very grateful for. Their tea selection is extensive to say the least. Took awhile for us to come to a conclusion but we all loved our tea. I'm especially a fan of the Paris, Chocolate Chai, and Maple teas. Witht the afternoon tea, you also get a great offering of desserts, tea sandwiches, and scones. I really can't pick a favorite because everything was so well-made and delicious. I loved that they tweak their menu according to the season as well. For the price, you can't ask for more. Absolutely a winner, totally check them out!

    Cute little sugar cubes.

I invited my four sisters to Skywater Tea House for the first time. It was such an enjoyable experience. The owner Hans is very knowledgeable and provides a calm/serene experience for everyone to enjoy. The food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious as well. I had the black maple tea and it was wonderful. The atmosphere is great for couples wanting a romantic experience but also pleasant for larger groups of six or less. It was wheelchair accessible and had comfortable seating. I will definitely be back. Thank you Hans for helping my sister's and I have a memorable time.

A nice tea house ideal for special occasions. Standard high tea sandwiches and treats. A large tea selection. The owner was the main server, super nice man. Very beautiful setting, small and quaint. The Panna Cotta - this was the best item served. So good!

Been here twice now and everytime I leave much more relaxed then when I arrive! Skywater never seizes to impress. The service is impeccable, the atmosphere nothing short of lovely and calming, and the food delicious and surprisingly filling. Not to mention that they have an extensive and superb tea menu! The menu changes monthly and features seasonal specialties so it's always a be experience. Highly recommend!!!!

This place is truly fantastic! Skywater Tea House has a vast variety of teas that will surely please anyone! I had the peach blossom tea, my friend had a cinnamon plum tea, and mocha houjicha. Peach blossom was light and sweet. Cinnamon plum had a forward cinnamon taste that was sweet at the end. Mocha had a roasted tea taste with a little bit of chocolate sweetness. I personally loved all 3! You also get unlimited refills on your tea which I think is super nice! Our starter was a cinnamon and apple panna cotta which was so light and delicious. Definitely will be one of my favorite and memorable panna cottas that I've tried! The tiered savory snacks and sweets were amazing and definitely not something you want to miss out on. Sandwiches were flavorful and what took me by surprise was the raisin bread sandwich. Perfect balance between sweet and savory and the ingredients compliment each other so well. I'm also a fan of the cucumber, always so refreshing to have! Brie, apple and honey is always a classic and you can never go wrong with the combo. The bacon and chive pastry was so flavorful too as well as the Norwegian salmon on a slice of toast! The scones are fluffy and the clotted cream + jam is always my favorite. I loved the Asian flavors on the top with the ube crinkle cookies and the matcha cake on top. Fantastic and so well done! Service is so wonderful and our server was SO nice. Also this place is nut-allergy friendly, the server was so sweet when we asked and said that there are so many things that can be made nut-free and I thought that was awesome. Loved the ambiance of the place, we got to be seated in the back room and it was nice having our own private space with the tea cups on display. Definitely will return if I'm back in Oregon!

What a beautiful place! So warm and pretty and sunny! I made a reservation for myself, my daughters and my granddaughters, so a big group. Hans communicated through email and answered my questions and they made arrangements for the vegetarians in our group. What a treat! The first course of panna cotta with berries was heaven! Then the tea trays with sandwiches and crostini and scones with clotted cream and jam!! Stupendous!! Everyone got to select and have their own choice of tea and their personal teapot. I love that. The cookies and mini cupcakes were superb. Thanks to our server Hans, imagine that, we're got the proprietor taking care of us. I very much recommend this outing for a special occasion with your loved ones.

Beautiful ambiance, serenity atmosphere, and delicious food. Excellent service and a wide selection of tea.

I love what the new owners did with the place and we are so happy that they kept it a tea place! Mom and I have come to the previous tea place for years. So happy to be able to continue a nice celebratory relaxing afternoon high tea. I don't think they serve Harney & Sons loose leaf tea like a lot of other places we go. The tea was good but the main event were all the delicious savory and sweet treats. We thoroughly enjoyed the decadent lemon Panna Cotta. Our server Trista was so nice and she happens to be one of the pastry chefs. We are excited to book our reservation soon for our next visit.

Went here for my bday celebration with my mom. It was easy to make online reservations. We tried 3 teas, and they all were wonderful. We even purchased one of the ones we ordered to have at home! (Box of tea bags) the food was freshly prepared, and was good. The savory quiche was lovely. I will definitely be back with my girlfriends! Thank you for making my birthday special!

Per the website, patrons may not stir tea in a circular motion, blow on tea, eat scones before tea sandwiches, nor set used utensils on the table, among other things. Are all these rules truly mandatory?

My wife had just had her birthday and wanted to see the High Tea experience firsthand. And even better, they had tasting rooms in Beaverton and Hillsboro so we could stay local. We chose the Hillsboro location in the nice block of downtown they have. You have to make a reservation so we did. It wasn't a huge room but all tables were full on an early Saturday afternoon. They sat you at a table with mugs and fine china for a little tea party. The menu was laid out ahead of time and then you could pick the teas to have. I enjoyed them- I am not an expert but I tried a couple and liked the variety. They gave us instructions on when to drink and even a timer for when we should pour. Then the food came out- first a small bowl of broccoli cheddar soup, which was good, then the pastry and sandwich tray. I did get a picture of that. The High Tea experience is listed as "a light meal of scones, pastries, assorted treats, and finger sandwiches." That is what we got. The scones were good and about what you would expect from a nice local bakery. There were some small hors d'oeuvres like a mini quiche with bacon and cheese and then a small pastry with tomato and olive, very tasty. The finger sandwiches for that day were cucumber and cream (a British staple I am told), red pepper and hummus, and then turkey lunchmeat with goat cheese and a cranberry spread- that was my favorite. They also gave a couple treats for the last part, a macaroon and a cupcake, and then a shot glass filled with whipped cream and a strawberry jello/jam type thing. All very good, and not too much to be overwhelming. Overall, it was a delightful experience. We were happy to give it a try. The only drawback I have is that it cost about $65 per person, which I felt a little steep considering what we got. Again all the food was very good and it is meant to be a light lunch, but the portions were all so small that I don't quite feel like it added up... I could just go to a local bakery and get a variety of things with more substance, for less money. We did get to try several teas so that is part of the experience.

I was informed that I could cancel the reservation, with refund, if the change of location was inconvenient. It was, as I was treating my mother (who is 90!) and Hillsboro was too distant and too long of a day for her. I have been reaching out for the past 3 months, attempting to receive a refund, with no result. I contacted the Better Business Bureau for assistance, and they too received no response to their inquiries on my behalf. I feel it is important to share my experience, in case there are others who can benefit from it.

They did warm up the cinnamon roll which was soft and delicious and I love that they source their pastries from surrounding small businesses like the gluten free Blue Moon Bakery! Smart partnership! My friend got her toddler daughter an Italian Soda and they gave her a kids whipped cream cup with confetti sprinkles which was super cute. She also found the hidden bear and got a sticker as well.
