Not a bad course to play 9 holes. Fairways aren't short grass but longer. First 2 holes the fairways are bumpy. Think 4x4 . The pace of play is hit or miss. Some days it's perfect and others it's painfully slow. We found teeing off around 3:30-4:30 beats the evening crowd. 3/5 because of course conditions and not helping with pace of play. read more

This has been my rainy day range forever and now, with all the improvements, I think it will replace the Bridges as my first choice. The Mats are new and great (so much better)! The balls are new and...they play great 70's music while you hit. They have added a few more extras and I look forward to more. Place is super awesome. Recently revamped after it went over new management. Turf is fresh and nice. Field is well taken care of. Employees are super friendly and helpful. Last minute trip to the driving range made me love golf ngl. Even got to meet the owner who was actually a super nice and chill guy. Definitely would recommend and go again. read more

It was my first time ever to play on a golf course but luckily I had a friend with me who knew the rules and golf etiquette, and had a great time. Very inexpensive to play a quick 9 hole here. The driving range is nice and a large bucket of balls are cheap too. I will say the course is not in best terms of condition, could definitely use some TLC, but it didn't distract me from playing at all. And S/O to Mike at the front desk, he was super nice and very accommodating. If you're by the Concord area and you're looking for an affordable and course + driving range, regardless of skill level, i'd definitely recommend this place. read more

I would rate this place 4 stars. Nice small course for beginners like me. I am rating my review here 5 stars because of THE INSANE EFFORT. If you compare skylinks now vs buchanan golf course(old name), the effort is literally turning this place 180 degrees and now riding a rocket to the moon at lightspeed. Nicer greens, better chipping and putting area, painted driving range walls(management invites locals to paint their range walls), new driving mats with all the tees available, bunker work, and so much more. If you were playing at this place 2 years ago, it was old, sad, and neglected. The previous owner who i think also stands at a cashier area serves people like he does not want anyone on his grass. Now the people at skylinks are friendly and welcoming. There are also some free lost and found driver covers!!! I truly appreciate the BIG EFFORT the team has put in, and I think they have more improvements on the way! read more

Horrible facilities! Even worse staff. The siding is rotted, the roof is blowing off, the balls are a joke no dimples/cracked, the range mats are worn out and almost un-hittable, they charge for rubber range tees, pro shop is completely empty and the staff has terrible people skills. Buchanan Fields is the definition of an executive golf course. Playing 1911 from the back tees and a par 31 over its 9 hole layout it is perfect for those who are short on time or those just beginning their love affair with greatest game ever invented. Located right next to the airport it gives us avgeeks a chance to do some planespotting while also practicing your short game. The layout is flat and does offer some some terrifying traps on holes 2 & 5. OB really only comes into play at 1. The greens were in fine shape and for winter the course in general was as well. If you are looking for a relaxing day or a quick round or just some practice this place should do the trick. read more

Short 9-hole course. The greens have been updated so it's nice even with the drought. However, the fairway is in pretty bad shape. More brown (brown is the new green) and dirt on the fairway. If you want a quick 9-hole game for around $12, it's a good place to "put" around. If you want a better maintained course, there are a few others in the area. read more

The new management and all of the staff at Skylinks Buchanan deserve a huge shout out for the hard work they've done to update and bring value to this course. New driving range mats and actual working lights for late night driving, staff that really do care about customer experience, extended late night hours, and even fun games to play on and off the course! Honestly, the list is huge. I highly recommend this golf course for every level of golfer. Fantastic for beginners to start from driving range to first time trying a course. For experienced golfers, this is a great course to sneak in a quick 9 during the day or now with the option for 2 rounds to get a proper 18 holes. The cups on the greens are moved frequently so the challenge is always there. This course is now a thriving, lively place and a delight to be at every visit. Came here yesterday for the first time in over 5 years. Now that I think I'm a more experienced golfer, I found the course very easy. The fairways are very narrow. This can be a little unnerving if the person in the other fairway doesn't hit it straight, and the ball shoots over to your fairway, and no one yells out "fore". Ditto what's been said. I agree some staff in the shop are not nice. My daughters were told they shouldn't use their Youth on Course cards because the discount hurts the course. Hmm, then why did the Course agree to be on the list? Then they announced on the LOUDSPEAKER to the other players my daughters would be the cause of slow play. What?????? First Tee has taught my young women about pace of play and NO they would NOT cause slow play. This felt extremely SEXIST. Not cool Buchanan! How arrogant and presumptive. You know what hurts the course and the future of the sport? Discouraging FEMALE players from playing the sport. I couldn't be more angry. read more

Unbelievably horrible service and arrogant employees My 9 y/o son and I went to play a quick round and were rebuffed by the staff. We were shocked at the rudeness of the employee in the golf shop and given many different reasons why we couldn't play. And then we watched 2 subsequent guests / groups come into the shop and be allowed to go out and play without tee times. Son in tears that he couldn't go out and play, we left. I would understand if this was a decent to good golf course, but this isn't. Most of all, it was the arrogance and rudeness of the employee that was the most shocking. Four stars may seem high, but let's cover what this place is. It is a 9 hole, flat, short golf course that costs about $11.00 to play on. Drinking in the carts doesn't cause problems, and there is no pretentious golf ettiquette guy lecturing you. You play your round, pay little money, and have a great time. I am not good at golf. I do not want to spend money on being told to play faster on holes far above my playing level. There are some reviewers complaining about the course, that people are not good, or that it is busy. I find this place to be a charming little course with pretty decent practice facilities. $11 for 9 holes is not a bad price, especially since the course is kept in fairly decent shape. COURSE DESIGN - The whole thing, as someone mentioned, is a huge fairway. There are few bunkers, no water in play, and a couple of short par 4's thrown in here and there. DRIVING RANGE - No real grass here, but considering this is the Bay Area you'd have to basically go to a country club for that. I like that there are plenty of stalls and that your ball lands on real grass. This means you can actually realistically gauge the distance you can hit each of your clubs. I also appreciate that you can hit onto flat ground and not a downslope. Again, good for gauging exactly how far you can hit. PUTTING AND CHIPPING GREEN - You pass by it on the way to the first tee. I haven't seen a little par 3 course with amenities like this, so that was kind of cool. CUSTOMER SERVICE - The guys in the shop are friendly and chill. Be nice to them. I probably wouldn't drive all the way out here (from Oakland) to play unless I had something to do nearby, but it's a great place to get some golf in whenever I have to head out to the Walnut Creek / Pleasant Hill area. Cool little municipal course... if its in your locality. $11 a 9 hole. Theres a bar. 2 long holes to use your driver. Fairly easy course Fairways and greens are nicely kept, although it has rained a lot. Tons of groundhogs to steal your balls. Driving range mats are the worst ever to hit off of. An hour drive from San Leandro after work. Its by the airport and freeway entrance. Tons of passing traffic on 2 holes - hecklers always yelling something stupid right when youre about to hit. Theyve drained the water from the lakes to conserve. But it leaves a baron desert in its place. If you shank em there, your clubs get covered with sewage thick mud once it digs thru the top layer. So why play here? Cuz its golf dammit! And its the only place halfway between your house and your friends in BFE. read more

I may be going out on a limb here giving it 4 stars. But despite this course's shortcomings I like the place. I's a muni, public golf course. It's an older course, that gets a LOT of play from players which range from junior's to seniors, & from what I have witnessed over the years it gets a lot of newbies to the golf universe! This is good & this is bad & I'm not saying there isn't room for improvement. I just give it 4 stars because 9 hole course are needed! I took some of my first golf lessons from this place. It was great, because I learned to play late by today's standards (in my 20's) but it provided a "safe" place to learn which was less intimidating & offered smaller class sizes, so more one-on-one ratio. My point is that a lot of the beginners NEED TO TAKE A CLASS! If nothing more, as to learn golf etiquette and how to treat the course/fellow players. BFGC needs more marshalling it's true, as the course suffers from a lot of issues such as: slow play, people stomping thru area's they shouldn't, simply not respecting other players & not repairing greens etc. etc. Unfortunately this isn't restricted to just newbies though! None-the-less I still like the place. It's only a 9 hole course, with a few holes to pull out yr woods. But for the most part it's a great course to hone your skills with precision & iron shots. It's gives opportunity to distance & hole management as to practice reduction in strokes, so when you play the larger more refined courses your game will improve. Again, expectations must be kept in check for playing this course: -It's a small course with a driving range that needs some updating. -Weekends are going to be busy, & play slow at times. -The owner could do some updating, yes that's obvious. -The course itself has suffered from owner neglect and decline over the years, I will admit. -Rumors still fly on how the Airport itself would like nothing more than for it to go belly up so they can take over & expand. Whatever! Let's hope that doesn't take place as small courses like this are necessary. They play important roles. BFGC offer men & women's weekday club(s), as well as classes that offer solid teachings. The golf range is acceptable, but their matt-only practice options are limiting. BFGC also offers opportunity to play last minute and to finish faster than an 18 hole course. As a whole the course is a solid choice to play, just keep it in mind it's not ever going to equal a PGA course or expert level of play. Also from what I have witnessed from fellow players, golfers are like fish stories, they tend to exaggerate things as their ego's inflate how they truly play. Chances are if you are playing here, your not on the PGA or LPGA top 100! LOL! ;-) read more

I have a tendency to dig my balls deep into sand traps. Thankfully this course has very few. I'll start with the driving range - Steve doesn't like it because he can't loft chips at an 89 degree angle. Well, Stevie, you actually can. Just move down a bit to the area where the range ISN'T covered with a roof. Sounds to me like you are trying to cover up your rotten driving skills. Driving range has plenty of room to practice all the swings. Go short or go long. Sure the range isn't grass, but you schmohawks understand you only paid 7 bucks for a bucket, right? People like Steve would dig trenches in real grass. The chipping range is great, too. Not many courses I have been to actually have a chippin range, either. Maybe I am not going to the right ones or maybe this is really unique! Putting range is very nice. Well kept green with a wide variety of angles, lies and lines to practice. The course itself is perfect for a Saturday or Sunday morning or late afternoon. It's only 9 holes, so you can spin through in 2 and a half hours if you need to. Price is great, too, so all things considered, you almost cant go wrong here. As any good golf course should, it also has a great clubhouse with freezing cold beer! A MUST for any golf outing! read more

Great place for a 9 hole that's inexpensive. Andy is very helpful and nice employee. Gets busy around 9am, if your an early bird get there befor then to beat the rush. Grass is good, plenty of green not the best but it's great for what your paying. This course is great for all levels if you have an open mind, don't be that person to rush anyone. read more

The course isn't anything to write home about, but it's cheaper to play 9 holes here than it is to buy a new pack of golfballs, so it's A-Ok with me! Decent variety in the lengths of the holes, nice scenery (small planes flying overhead) and good people (working and golfing) makes this course well worth playing. If you're going pro anytime soon, you might want to challenge yourself somewhere else, but if you're just a casual golfer and want to save a bit of money, Buchanan Fields fits the bill. Oh, and the fairways here are very user friendly :) If you can't keep your ball playable here, you might want to kick down for some range balls to work on your swing (7 bucks), play the easily walkable course again (11-12 bucks), then take the money you saved by playing here, place it in a jar and save up for some golf lessons. This is where I learned to play golf. Driving range is great and prices of golf are great. It's a short easy course great for newbies and kids. Doesn't have a legit bar or restaurant. It's a walking course. Don't come here to get a cart. But for the $12 you really can't beat it as far as value goes with golf. They take pretty damn good care of a course for this money. While the prices are decent here, it can get to be pretty busy. I came here with a friend on Monday morning, around 10am and while the driving range had plenty of room, there was a huge back-up on hole one. It looked as though we were in line to get free pizza! There were probably about 15 people gathered around the first tee and we waited at least 20 minutes. The course was generally well maintained, but the holes are mostly par 3's, which are not my favorite. Overall, it's a decent course, especially for the price, but I can't imagine how busy it gets on the weekend! read more

Buchanan Fields is a great place to practice at the range, but you are good to need a couple of cold ones to enjoy a round of golf here. There aren't many driving ranges in the area so Buchanan Fields tends to be crowded. The range has a lot of stalls but there can still be a wait, especially on the weekends. A majority of the stalls require you to hit off of artificial turf, which I hate. The rates are reasonable and most of the players seem to be less experienced than you would find at that the average range. The course is definitely for beginners. There are only 9 holes, a majority of which are par 3's. The holes are all built extremely close together which means you are going to end up dodging stray shots from nearby players. The course is normally in pretty bad condition, especially in the hot summer months. The best thing about Buchanan Fields is that it is an excellent place to learn the game. The speed of play is always extremely slow so you don't have to worry about your 75 yard drives angering the group behind you. Even if you have never picked up a set of clubs in your life you will feel comfortable playing a round of golf here. read more

One of the best 9 hole courses in the Bay. Kids have to be at least 12 but my 7 year old has actually played here once. My son can keep pace w/ a 14 year old when hes "on". Well maintained range balls, greens, tee box's, karts, My favorite hole is 5. Only because it was my first birdie shot ever. Its just a short 110-130 par 3. I nearly aced it w/ my PW and landed within 1' of the pin. read more

I do not much care for the jeans and t-shirt crowd. One guy played a joke on a fellow player and took and hid his ball. WTF was that? The guy was not even amused... Course is always on the full side, so single players tend to get paired up. This short 9-hole should take under 90 mins, but the foursomes are moving way slow and so it takes closer to 2'20''. I recorded my 1st birdie here in 2007 so that's why they get an extra star. read more

For under $20 you can hit 80 balls at the range and then play a quick and easy nine holes, all in under 90 minutes (and you won't need anything longer than a 3-wood, if that).
