Pickleball! I love that this park has 14 courts mostly available for drop ins. Yes there are times when there are classes so there can be a short wait. When the courts are full, there isn't an easy system for getting on so you put your paddles on a court you hope will open up. It's awkward and folks don't like to get off after their game so a better system would help. Despite this, for me, these courts are my favorite. They are well maintained and there is usually plenty of parking, clean bathrooms in the community center and folks are generally nice. read more

Well maintained spot for some pickleball. The courts can get pretty busy during peak hours, especially on weekday evenings or weekends, but the environment is always lively. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, try going during off hours when it's less crowded. The area is well lit and there's ample parking in the adjacent lot. We love the pickle ball courts here! With 14 open courts available for pick up games, my husband and I go atleast once a week and never have to wait long! They are decently maintained and other picklers are friendly and respectful. Parking is also plentiful. The only con to the courts is that there is not a lot of shade so it can get pretty hot in the summer! At night, it can be pretty crowded and the lights are on for more play time! read more

Pickleball? As a teaching tennis professional for over 25 years, I've resisted this paddle game. My BFF, Cali G (Concord) and her husband, encouraged me to try it out. Ended up signing up for a lesson here. The parking lot was fairly full. Once we parked the 10 courts were packed with group instruction and advanced players. It a nice facility with soccer and softball fields. The public restrooms are on the far side from the center, so do plan ahead. read more

I haven't played softball in a very long time. When my team asked if I could pitch, I reluctantly said yes. I didn't anticipate being the home team at our first game and being on the mound for the first pitch. My legs were shaky and my heart was thumping. 2 - 3 count is utilized to speed the game. I threw a couple of balls and swore under my breath (no swearing allowed on the field). The batter swung, I picked up the ball and got a quick out at first. Their next batter was called "out" for not being on the field in time. It took me awhile to catch on to the officials throwing different sized balls at me. A couple of times I heard the official behind me say, "yoo hoo...*whistle*..pitcher" Duh me. I thought there was some rule about needing a new ball for every pitch - then I realized they were switching them up for males & females. I apologized after being lame for the third time in a row and the official smiled and said, "It's ok - it takes some getting used to." I walked a male batter. He went to second and the next girl up to bat went to first. ??? The official calmly explained to me that it's the other team's choice - let her take first base or bat, when a male is walked. Then I threw a strike out. That's 3. Free king awesome. My nerves calmed down after that. One of our players was called out for touching home plate. *shrugs* Like I said, it was our first time playing together. I had fun. The officials were incredibly patient with us. The field was groomed nicely, score board is fancy and the lights are plentiful. I asked to be relieved from pitching. I was told to go to 2nd. One look at my face and the coach said, "Unless you can catch". *big smiles* I flipped my hat around and popped a squat behind home plate. A very large ex-marine jet launched a throw to me at home for an out - swear to my goodness, I felt like Yogi Berra. My thanks go out to the City of Concord for a fun league and great park to play the all American favorite pastime. p.s. I really need a catcher's mask if anyone has an extra one lying around. read more

Willow Pass Community Park is limited. There are several features I've found in other parks that aren't here: playground, many picnic areas, hiking trails, views. It's not fair to compare this park to Golden Gate Park in The City, few parks in America rank that high. But the City of Concord has several other parks that offer what this one lacks. It does have a few features that come in handy: * Community Center, good for family get-togethers, receptions, business functions. * Pixieland, an amusement park for the littler set. A miniature train leaves the park and goes around the large duck pond. * Here's the big one: sports fields. Willow Pass Park is sports central. Many baseball fields, a good collection of tennis courts, batting cages. On the north end is an unusual feature that comes in very handy: little league softball fields. For years, I thought "so what?" It was only this morning, when I took my daughter to her first live baseball game, that I appreciated the pint-sized fields that don't intimidate players under age 10. Concord American Little League has a popular, fully developed organization, taking full advantage of these fields. And the fields are what prompted this review. Depending on why you utilize city parks, this one may not work for you. But for other things, especially baseball, it's a good one in a convenient location. read more

Per the City of Concord - "40 acres north of Willow Pass Road at Olivera Road and Salvio Street. A large community center is located near the center of the park. Nearby are four lighted and four unlighted tennis courts. Willow Pass hosts numerous softball tournaments and league play on six softball fields, four of which are lighted for evening play. A batting cage concession operates year round (www.paylessbattingcages.com). Pixieland, an amusement area at the north end of the park features child-sized rides including a scale model train that runs around the lake and through a tunnel. Pixieland has a birthday party area that can be reserved (www.Pixieland.com). " You could go to Pixieland, but you really want to play softball! That's what I'm doing! There are 5 ball fields, which have varying degrees of preparation and shade. The biggest downside is proximity of restrooms and water. If you're near the middle of this large park, you're fine. The fields on the end, bring your own bev and be prepared to hold it! This is my first softball league, so Jenn (me wife!) and I are looking forward to some Wednesday night games. read more

One of the BEST Tennis courts in the area! Now that they have installed the lights, I can play until 10pm or so with my friends. The court has some cracks, but overall for a free public place to play tennis, it is awesome. 8 courts, plenty of parking, benches for people to sit, and always maintained. I am here every week, taking advantage of the open space. Just about every night there are lots of people here playing softball, all pre-arranged teams and games. It may be hard to find parking during certain hours because so many people here are taking advantage of the 2 or 3 softball fields in this park. They also apparently have batting cages, though I've never been inside. Aside from the softball and tennis courts, there is open space if you want to just throw frisbee, soccer, or football around. No basketball court, no volleyball court, no skateboarding/rollerblading allowed, and no picnic area, although there is the Willow Pass Community Center, which you can hold events, parties, gatherings, dances, etc. It's very interesting sometimes, playing tennis and listening to weddings, mariachi bands, and hip hop music. Overall, the park is very shady, lots of huge trees, plenty of parking, open space, and Pixieland nearby, a great place for young children, and cow gazing across the street. Lol. Oh and people, the Tennis Court is NOT a soccer field !! Go elsewhere or learn to play tennis instead!! read more

Lots of baseball and softball fields, tennis courts are nice too. I've watched a few games of baseball here and its fun! Snack shack has plenty of snacks and drinks. On the day I came we visited during the day so the snack shack wasn't open. We came to feed the ducks at the lake and do our walk around the park. We fed the ducks, geese and even the squirrels! The greedy geese even follow you for more food! LOL! We saw all the turtles relaxing on top of the rocks in the middle of the lake. Every year there seems to be more turtles, kinda cool! Wish there was a path along the perimeter of the lake on the outskirts...mannuvering a stroller on the poop riddled grass is tough. I dealt with it though. There are benches all along the lake, some in shade. Pixieland was closed during our visit...as it was like 10am or so! I've been coming to Pixieland since I was 4 or 5 (so that's 30 some odd years)...its changed alot. Different rides over the years but the best part is the train that has been there and hasn't changed one bit. Except for a new coat of paint! All the rides are toddler friendly. Parking is great, plenty of parking in any of the 3 lots. Restrooms were closed on this day but I guess they open when the ball games are going on. read more

This review is strictly for the tennis courts - it's a welcome change to find courts available at 11am on a Saturday morning for our group of wannabe pros. Pretty decent condition (no glaring cracks), however slight minus for the leaves that gather on one corner, which makes it mildly dangerously slippy. Watch your step and you'll be fine! read more

Someone needs to get those kids out off the tennis courts trying to play soccer. ....I feel they are ruining the tennis nets and not enabling real tennis players to enjoy what that area of the park is designated to...but besides that the courts are clean, some nets can be maintained a little better and hopefully one day the tennis courts can remain open passed 10 pm, because I feel that isn't enough time especially if u get off work at nine!!! read more

This is the worst league in the area. If you are new to softball and play in the rec division then it's a lot of fun but if you're decent and you play in the more competitive divisions then don't waste your money. The umpires and city management have favorites and will cater to only those people. The players are a bunch of whiners. If you just want to show up, play, and have fun, take your team to Martinez,, Walnut Creek, or Pleasanton. read more

Nice place. Homeless people hang out around here kinda closer to the creek but they do not bother anyone. The only reason I say four stars is because I think the lights should be left on longer during the summer. My chuch youth group use to always come here to play ball we tried to do when the sun was going down because it was hot in the summer before then. But the lights when out too fast no fun so we had to use car lights. It is a great place though. read more

This is a fantastic park with acres of green grass and mostly up-to-date facilities. The one area in need of improvement is the playground near the tennis courts. The director of Concord Parks & Recreation has submitted replacement of the Willow Pass Park playground as a Capital Improvement Project during the next budget process. But it will be considered with a number of other unnamed competing projects for very limited funds.
