What could be a wonderful and charming little park, it's got problems. It does, however, have a memorial, a tribute to service and vets. Plagues, tribute to loved ones lost, statue, very cool. Negatives: =========== * Overrun by geese, I think Canadian to be precise. That's cool, except they leave their poop, and it's everywhere. Review #006 - 2023 After our disappointing lunch, I decided to take my daughter to the playground, where she could expense some of her energy. Unfortunately, we saw a sign that says the playground was under construction and projected to be completed by summer of 2023. I guess they're behind schedule, just like everything else the government gets their hands on. The park itself is very nice! We still enjoyed our quick walk around the park. We saw many people fishing. The water seemed clean, as it didn't smell bad like most ponds that I've encountered at other parks. It was a pretty hot day so we didn't get to spend as much time as I would like. I'm sure my daughter wouldn't mind playing there for an hour if the playground was usable. They also have kids's camp so my daughter wanted to play with them, but I told her we weren't allowed since their parents had to pay to put them into camp. I love all the statues and monuments that are posted around the park to remind us that, "Freedom is NOT Free!" We'll definitely be back if we happen to be in the area. read more

Oak Hill Park Community Center was the perfect wedding venue. The setting was beautiful with the lake and willow tree, and the ballroom was ideal for our reception--it had space for all our guests, the DJ, and the dance floor. We held our cocktail hour on the deck, and guests loved the view of the lake and gazebo. We also used the meeting rooms to get ready, which worked out perfectly since we were there while the staff set up. The team kindly arranged the tables and chairs for us. The best part of booking this venue was working with the staff. Ian and Mellissa were incredibly kind and helpful--they offered tours and meetings whenever needed, answered every email and call, and were always a pleasure to work with. The setup and cleanup crew were also friendly and efficient. If you're looking for a beautiful venue for a smaller wedding and want an amazing, supportive staff, I highly recommend Oak Hill Park Community Center. read more

This park is beautiful and beloved for its unique integration with the surrounding natural environment however, BEWARE of the wildlife especially if you intend to visit with small children. Particularly please scan the area for large snakes within the playground, and under no circumstances ever feed the waterfowl as they will follow aggressively and could attack. read more

Dennis Giacovelli, and Medal of Honor Recipient, Major Jim Taylor were exceptional speakers. I enjoyed the "Rifle Salute" and "Taps." When we dog sit for friends in Alamo, we bring the dogs to this park. It's very hilly and there are lots of squirrels for the dogs to chase around and run up and down the hills. At the last minute I was booked to take photos for a Jewish Orthodox wedding ceremony. It was a vow renewal ceremony to be held out on the deck of the community building on the property. Due to the weather forecast, the ceremony was to be held on the grass near the pond but they couldn't chance the rain and mud. These are the last minute changes that can happen at weddings. Always be prepared! The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. It was a gorgeous day as it turned out and either on the deck or near the pond it would have been photogenic. The ceremony was beautiful and all of the patrons were comfortably sat in chairs and everyone had a great view. There are a few rooms located in the center. One room was dedicated to the women to meet and conversate and the second room was for the men to meet and conversate. There are lots of windows and views of the grounds. At the main entrance they had an acoustic guitar and flautist playing as attendees come in. In the main entrance hall they had a table set up for women to get their corsages and men to get their boutonnieres. All of the catering was done in the in house kitchen. The reception was held in the big main center room. A dance floor was in the center and let me tell you, Orthodox weddings are the funnest weddings. I have never been to a funner wedding. It was fantastic! They had a wonderful party, great food and of course this venue is perfect for any wedding. read more

It's Summer and the park's water feature doesn't work!!!! It's a cute park with a little bit of everything. The "Big Kid" swings are really far away from the rest of the playground area which isn't good if you have an older kid and a little that needs the bucket swings; you can't even see them from most of the other areas of the playground. Such a beautiful place to spend the day! The park is extremely clean and well maintained, with a nice structure to entertain the kids. There is a very nice water feature surrounded by a pond, with trees along the sides. Absolutely perfect to have a cute picnic or go on a cute date to feed the ducks. I have even seen people fishing in the pond! Also, there are benches set up for parties, along with grilles. Another bonus: the park has awesome restrooms. Super clean, not even the usual metal toilets that you see at public parks. And the towels are very high quality, not at all cheap. If you get bored, there is also a sand volleyball court open for the public to play. And a trail to hike up a hill that overlooks the park (and probably other stuff). My friend recently had her wedding ceremony and reception at this park, and this place blew me away. It is a gorgeous park, and the ceremony was held right by the lake on the open grass area. Once the ceremony was over, we moved on over to the event center for the reception, and this place was gorgeous. It overlooks the lake, and is still pretty new (I believe it was built in the last 3 years). It was an immaculate building, even down to the bathrooms. I was thoroughly impressed with this place. They even opened an adjoining room that we hadn't rented out for us, and let us bridesmaids keep our stuff in there. I'd say the only downside was that the ground was VERY soggy by the big tree, and my heels kept getting stuck in the mud. And just so you know, it might look like a LOT of duck poop on the ground, but it's actually dirt, because the park areates the soil. read more

We are so lucky to live just up the street from this park. I walk my kids over maybe once a week, if not more. It has a beautiful facility for parties overlooking a pretty lake, a nice playground for the kids, and beautiful water features. It even has horseshoe pits and BBQs. My brother-in-law recently became engaged and I immediately thought of this park as ideal for the wedding due to its proximity and facilities. However, I suspect they would like to hold their wedding in a more out of the way spot. The one downside is the large flock of Canadian geese that keep pooping all over the sidewalks and necessitates watching your step or your bike or your stroller. Luckily, park services keeps this park fairly clean against all odds. It is well maintained. read more

This park is a very nice place to relax, have a picnic or to take a walk. Fairly large trail which winds around the whole park. There is a beautiful lake with a fountain, a playground, a sand volleyball court, BBQs, horseshoe pits, a fairly large building for events, and depending on the time of year, many types of ducks and geese. However, the birds tend to leave their droppings all over the trail, which isn't fun when you're trying to walk around. Overall, a great location for everyday events or a casual stroll! read more

This has got to be my favorite park ever!! Best place to take kids, dogs, go for a walk, etc. ***TIP: If you've got kids, bringing along a bucket and shovel at this particular park is basically MANDATORY!!! LOL. All of the water and sand here is irresistible and these tools are really a necessity*** -Parking: parking is easy, right in front of park with lots of shade. -Playground: park has lots of things for kids to climb. Even a play area for smaller children, which makes this park great for kids and toddlers of all ages. -Water feature: to make it even better, at NOON in the summertime, this park turns on a water feature for kids to play in! It is a huge windmill that just looks like a decoration - until the water comes on and it sprays a nice mist everywhere with a bubbling water basin beneath it (the kids like to dip their buckets here to fill with water for the sand). -River: what REALLY makes this park unique is the cool "river" that flows around the playground and into the lake. It is a very shallow man-made little river that is lined with concrete and river rock on the bottom. Kids in water shoes or barefoot walk up and down the "river", sit in it, etc. There are also nice flat rocks embedded in and around the river for kids to sit and stand on. As an adult, I always look forward to sitting on a rock and putting my feet in while the kid scoops up water, throws sticks in to watch them float away, etc. Lots of shade, too, which makes everything even more pleasant. - Lake: The river leads to a lake which has TONS of ducks, geese, canadian geese, Koi fish, bass (I think that's what the fisherman said he was catching), and lots of turtles to look at. All around is grass with a walking path, and sometimes you can even catch a turtle sunbathing in the grass. -Fishing: you can bring fishing poles here and they practice "catch-and-release". -Volleyball: BIG sand-volleyball pit. -BBQ: picnic area near volleyball pit overlooking lake with tables and barbecues. -Horseshoes: a 2nd, smaller BBQ area that overlooks the lake has horseshoe pits. -Trail: there is a large hillside behind the playground that has a trail. I have seen MANY joggers and people with dogs go up there, but haven't had the chance to check it out for myself. -Event center: when you pull into the parking lot the first thing you see is a little building that holds events, summer camps, weddings, etc. It is pretty and clean inside. You can walk around behind the building and there is a really nice white deck with benches overlooking the lake. It's a nice place to sit and watch the geese. read more

We went to a Grad Party here this past Saturday, it was a beautiful day! This park is just gorgeous, its laid out perfect. You can park in front of the building where they hold parties and its super close to the park or on the other side in Monte Vista's parking lot. There is a path that you take to walk around this man made lake that they allow you to fish in it as well. They have a volleyball court that is filled with sand and plenty of room to move around in. There are huge trees to shelter you from the sun and the park is very spacious. I wish I lived up in this area I would hold all my sons birthday parties here, its a picture perfect place. The kids playground has swings for older kids and some for the little ones. They have a mini slide (too cute) and it truly caters to the smaller kids (which is hard to find). The bathrooms are super clean and the entire park is kept the same way. If you live up in this area and haven't been to this park I suggest you visit this park with your kids ASAP you won't be disappointed! read more

Nice park but the folks that come here with their dogs and let them run free to chase the ducks and geese is not too swift. Not being a dog fan I get a little tired of the incessant barking as well. The park is well kept with the exception of the area where the birds gather which has a lot of feces. Very nice for a early morning walk as most folks in this upscale neighborhood don't use it at 7:00AM. Nice location for photograhpy of the pond area and trees. read more

I take my 9 month old son here all the time. They have infant swings and shaded areas. There's a pond with ducks and geese with a nice trail to walk. The bathrooms are always clean. I haven't had problems with parking yet. read more

Beautiful place to spend the day. Came here for a music festival in the park in August and it was just lovely. The park is well maintained, clean and has a fully staffed event center. The lake is just gorgeous and clean! You are permitted to fish in it as well. There are also a lot of ducks and geese inhabiting the area (no hunting them, Elmer Fudd--not duck season here! Strictly for viewing enjoyment only.) They offer a lot of parking readily available and close to the park and it has a fabulous playground area for the little ones. A picnic near the playground area would make a great birthday party for the squirts. A lot of large shade trees are available for seeking shelter under when the day gets too hot. Perfect for cracking open a good book underneath the shade. For the more athletically inclined, there are volley ball courts, a tennis court (bring your own equipment--no need to reserve a court, you just play on it if it is empty or join whoever is already on the court for a game of doubles!) and plenty of room to go running or for a nice hike. There are plenty of picnic and barbecue areas there if you are considering having an outdoor event, or you can take advantage of the event center on the water for parties of about 140 people. It's a relatively new center which is in great condition and would be a gorgeous place to have a wedding. The only thing I have an issue with, as another Yelper mentioned is the lack of dogs on leashes. Don't get me wrong, I am a dog LOVER. I adore them. But let's face it. Dogs are dogs. They don't like other dogs all the time and they don't necessarily like some people either. Plus, I've noticed that a lot of dog owners don't come equipped with some baggies, paper towels and some rubber gloves to clean up after their four legged friends. The park is not your dogs toilet bowl. Please be courteous and clean up after your pups. Nothing ruins a picnic quicker than to realize you just sat in a pile of freshly heated puppy poopy. Check the community paper for events like music in the park and mini carnival fun and games for the kids. I had a great time here for Music in the Park back in August. People dancing barefoot in the well manicured grass was a real cool time. read more

Great place for BBQ and Horse Shoes. Lots of duck turd? The kids area is OK but not great. They have a slide that is polished metal and when the temperature get hot so does the slide. I just think they could relocate things and put in some updated equipment. I would go to another park for the kiddo but for BBQ this might be your best option. read more

Just went to the final music day in the park for the summer. Nice kid friendly park, enjoyed the lake , sitting underneath tree with my wife. Only draw back is the geese/ goose manure . So come prepared with a blanket you don't care about ! Over all enjoyment . read more

This park has plenty to offer without using any of the facilities which include a very large central meeting area with a large gazebo, several bar b ques, a playground for children of all ages and a beach volleyball set up. This park also hosts several art and music festivals throughout the year. read more

Been looking for a place to walk with my 6 month old son for a while now. Decided to visit this place yesterday. It's nice but the walk around the lake is short (about 10 minutes). The trail in the back of the playground is very steep. The playgrounds are nice. This place has lots of parking. It also has a nice event center with a wrap around deck facing the lake with lots of ducks. It also has a volley ball court, tennis courts and a few BBQ pits. I'm considering having my son's first birthday here. read more

Playground is spacious and structures are new and in good shape. It's "nanny central" obviously, but other than that could not ask for more.

This is the site of the All Wars Memorial! It was hard to find... it is in the back of Oak Hill Park behind the lake. There is a small pathway that leads up to a walkway lined with stone pavers in the walk with names of patriots - veterans - heroes & service organizations. Also along the walkway wall are bronze panels with historic moments and a statue of two soldiers helping each other. At the top are two Abram Lincoln quotes and some benches to sit on around the flag pole. At the bottom of the Memorial at Oak Hill Park is a large stone wall engraved with famous quotes about America and Freedom. A beautiful site and well worth the visit to this park. read more

4 days before my wedding, we had to move the location of the whole thing-- rain had soaked the garden in which the ceremony & reception were to be held, and we were in quite a jam. Our wedding planner called Oak Hill Park and Nicole was able to take care of us-- got us in on short notice, gave us a great tour, let us come in for a quick rehearsal the night before and made sure her crew took good care of us on the day of. It was a great experience! There were a lot of kids at our wedding, so the playground was a big hit, and the lake & trees were the perfect setting for photos. Our last-minute change up was a huge success, and the stress of moving our wedding with so little time was made easier by Nicole & her crew. read more
