Gayle and I recently stayed at a friend's house in this neighborhood and joined them for a nice Saturday Morning walk. Part of this 2+ mile stroll was through Rudgear Park. The park looks deceivingly small when entering the park for Rudgear, and soon it opens up to some fairly large sports and open fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, dog friendly areas etc., all within a generous green belt. Walnut Creek is blessed to have these kind of parks and lots of regional park-like open space. read more

Cute little neighborhood park that connects to some of the local hiking trails that I frequent in the area. The park itself is pretty small and stretches through a residential neighborhood in Walnut Creek. There's one pretty large grassy field that seems to be used mostly as a dog park, Around the field is a short, paved walking path that also connects to other areas of the park and Sugar Loaf Ridge Open Space. There's a small children's play area and a few pickle ball courts. I've taken the Sugar Loaf to Shell Ridge trail from Sugar Loaf Ridge Open Space, and it usually takes me to this park. The Briones to Mount Diablo trail also runs through this park. It's a great option for those who are local. Most residence can literally walk down the street to get here. I've never actually driven to this park, so I'm not too sure about the parking situation. It's a nice little spot to take a break or for a quick stroll. Not much in terms of picnicking, but there are many other parks around in the neighborhood for that. Either way, it's still a nice little local park read more

My fiance and I decided to visit this park after passing by it on our way home. We thought it was fairly nice and peaceful. Not too many people were there. It's tucked in the middle of a neighborhood and has a small parking lot. The lawn was well manicured and clear of any litter. A big plus was the basketball goals actually had nets attached to the rim. There are also walking trails across the entire park. The trails were nice mainly because of the views of the terrains and valleys. Also we did see a few tennis courts on both sides of the park, a small playground, and sports fields. Overall, it's a great location to go to on a cool Sunday afternoon. read more

Bad experience with pickleball. Overcrowded with long wait times for a court. Really? 45 minute wait time before play? Plus, crabby courtside people complaining about the growth of the sport. Best I can say is that the lines for each court are clearly marked. read more

Came here for a short walk based on AllTrails. It is a small, hidden park around wealthy neighborhood. I've driven past this park's entrance many times and never suspected what would be up the small hill. The park offers many activities for the people who visit. I saw a paddle-ball game going on at the tennis courts. I think there was also a soccer field and a small playground. There were a lot of people walking their dogs or also strolling. Parking is pretty easy - it's just on the street. read more

What a wonderful park! I come here to play pickleball. There are plenty of courts. It's usually busy in the morning/afternoon. I usually will swing by in the later afternoon and I'm pretty much guaranteed an open court to play on. When the weather is nice, it's great to play outside. This park is nice because it's close to home. However, people need to clean up after there dogs. There are signs everywhere that not only provide poop bags, they read to clean up after your pooches. And for those that have a difficult time putting the letters together to form words, there are pictures that make sense, too. c'mon you lazy Walnut Creek residents! If you have a pet, part of the responsibility is to clean up after your pet, not willfully turn a blind eye. It's irresponsible, and disrespectful to your neighbors. Speaking of being disrespectful, there are people who like to drink at the park and throw their alcoholic beverage bottles on the property, and they don't care if they break. What if a poor animal, or child cuts themselves on that broken glass. We just did a clean-up with the BSA, so we were absolutely mindful of all the trash that we found. Things you don't really notice until you are looking for it. Hooligans also like to drink alcoholic beverages behind the bushes next to the tennis courts. Those hooligans are the same ones that litter, and there is graffiti back there for hooligans who can't spell!! Really? gangsters in Walnut Creek, yeah, right. wanna be's trying to be cool and litter. Littering drags your neighborhood down. So does graffiti, and so does trespassing when the park is closed between dusk to dawn! read more

Casey and Amy P. were both smiling when we saw that Rudgear Park was located at the intersection of Rudgear and Palmer Road. We stopped the car and took a picture with the street sign. We were at the park last summer attending a shindig for a friend in town from Amsterdam. She had invited groups of her friends to all meet at the park. It was a hot day and we were happy to find some shade under trees where we had put blankets down on the grass. Nearby, some of her friends let their children play on the play structures. Picnic benches were covered in food and coolers of drinks. The park is really big and the lawn was green and lush. Lots of area for kids to play and run around. And plenty of room left over for the adults that want to enjoy the park with their pets and friends. read more

This is a great park, nice neighborhood and neighbors. Best part are the 8 dedicated Pickleball courts! Lots of drop in play every morning! Plenty of seating at the picnic tables, while you watch or wait to play. Very social friendly group. Play tends to be Intermediate to Advanced. Players and groups play in the evenings too. Lots of street parking and a parking lot by the 3 tennis courts. Large grassy area for families, school functions, etc. Play structures for little kids with a picnic area near by. Permanent picnic table there too and three grills. My favorite park! read more

Love this little park! The playground has two areas... one for toddlers (2-5 years) and one for 5-12 year olds. I like the little benches all around, the easy parking and the small bbq pits if you are feeling like a quiet bbq but 4 stars because there is a dangerous cliff right to the side of this park where if you aren't very careful, you can slip off an hurt yourself or worse... There should really be some sort of fence. Otherwise, quiet park in a residential area... great for a lil sun and fun when you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everything. read more

This is a pleasant neighborhood park. I used to bring my grandchildren a few times a week. Beware that there are dozens of loose dogs in the late afternoon. The ball field is used as a dog park and the City allows it. Our 2 year old grandson was knocked down and straddled by an exuberant golden retriever. We were 100 feet away from the pack. The owner objected to my pulling the dog off the child- he made no effort to help. He refused to leash his dog while the dog jumped on me to get another chance at our grandchild. I let the City know about the problem and suggested they fence an area for dogs. This happened several months ago- no fence yet. read more

This is a great park to throw a party! My sons preschool secured a few bbq's and picnic tables for everyone to enjoy. Its such a gorgeous park. There is so much room and plenty of playgrounds for all the little kids. Our party was about 40 people total. We sat at tables or spread out blankets and had our picnics. Kids can run freely on the large grass areas. The bathrooms are nice and clean and readily available for little ones to wash their hands. There's a few play structures for both larger and smaller kids. Those areas seem the most cramped and a ton of dust was blowing up from all the running little feet trampling everything. Otherwise this is a really nice park. If you walk your dog through a large party of kids and parents, be prepared to have a massive petting episode for your dog. A great training ground for those dog owners out there. We have all of our after school picnics here and don't see a change happening any time soon. read more

It's a nice neighborhood park. The playground was small but there was two separate playgrounds for the little ones 4 and below and one for older kids. Parking is to the back and if you've never been here you wouldn't know about it until you've circled the whole park. We attended a birthday party here and there was some kind of kindergarten orientation that day. We were wondering how come we didn't even know a single face in the crowd. Then we asked someone and told us that maybe they were down below to the other side where they have a field. So we went down and we saw the bathrooms and the parking lot. The field was nice and big. Not a lot of shades in this park. read more
