The park looks deceivingly small when entering the park for Rudgear, and soon it opens up to some fairly large sports and open fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, dog friendly areas etc., all within a generous green belt. Walnut Creek is blessed to have these kind of parks and lots of regional park-like open space.

I spent a little bit of time on the playground with her daughter in between her son's innings at-bat. There are a few fields here and they all had games taking place while we were there. A private parking lot at the top of the hill has lots of parking, and there are also spots on the side of the road leading up the hill, and near the park at the bottom when you turn onto Regency Drive from Marsh Creek. The fields were nice and in good condition. The playground was also really neat, and had a play area for 2-5 year olds separate from the one for children a little bit older (who can play unassisted). There are several tables and shaded areas, and also paths that lead to the open space. I used the women's restroom and sadly a small, injured bird lay writhing in pain and flopping around one of the stalls. I didn't even know what to do about this, except go home sad, with a heavy heart for this hurting animal. As we drove away, (I swear this happened), like a scene from the nature channel, a hawk swooped down and grabbed a different bird, and it screeched in fear and pain, fought the hawk, but was eventually carried off for dinner. It made me want to bring the other bird out of the stall where it was dying and let nature "take it's course" but I drove off instead, not being able to bring myself to pull the scared creature outside it's concrete tomb. Aside from the uniquely sad scene I witnessed in the bathroom, this is a really cool community park.

I remembered this park from the distant past and decided to stop by. Time looks like it has stopped for the past decade or so here, in both good (the park itself) and bad ways (the playground). It's nice that there is a playground, and a decent sized one at that, but it looks tired and is badly need of a refresh. That said, it was getting a good amount of use on a weekday mid morning, as was the park itself. I went for a nice walk around the track, which my pedometer measures as 1/3 of a mile. The circular track lets you put together as short or long a workout as you have ability and time for. The track is unpaved but flat, perhaps a little bumpy for wheelchairs but passable. The one annoying thing is that it was muddy in many places, in spite of no rain for months. The lovely park on Cowell Avenue suffers from the same syndrome. I wish the sprinklers that maintain the grass could be wholly focused on the lawn and not the walking path. In some areas the grass was brown and the adjacent track was muddy. A good amount of picnic tables are here, as well as public bathrooms. A baseball backstop and home plate (a rarity these days) remains. Various mature trees add to the setting. BART tracks are just outside one side of the park and I saw three trains go by in the time I was here.

It's perfect especially for those who live in the area and have pets to walk. I've l seen lots of families walking around and hanging out in the park, and also kids playing sports (soccer, volleyball, etc.). It has a good playground there too. But what I like the most about this park is it provides complimentary doggie bags to encourage dog walkers to help keep the park clean. It also provides plenty of trash cans for use. My dog seems super happy whenever she's at this park - the grass looks healthy, some trees look well grown and huge, which tells me they're watered and taken care of well. I also feel safe walking around this park during the day.

You can feel like you are on a mini hike. Not great for the tiniest tots because the rocks are big, but I'd say ages 4 or 5 to 10 would find it special. Then when you are an adult you might find it special again, like me! The playground areas are small and simple - see descriptions in other reviews. Nice bathrooms. A large grassy field which sometimes has soccer practice on part of it. Lots of space for frisbee and other fun. Also lots of dogs, mostly on leash but some folks let theirs off leash. It's sort of an unofficial dog park some afternoons, although dog are not supposed to be on the grass (please no poop on the grass!!). You can have a small walk on the paved path all the way around the field, and because there are some hills in the back and a meandering path on the side, it doesn't feel like you are just walking around a grass field. Very pretty. So something for everyone - little kids on the playground and the secret rocky hill, big kids running around on the grass, dogs getting walked, snacking at picnic tables, and grandparents on the many benches to watch the kids and enjoy the scenery.

It is also very much baseball-centric with multiple baseball fields, batting cages, etc. There is also a large grass field that could be used for a variety of other activities, including soccer. Although I'm not sporty, I do like local parks and beautiful spaces for people of all ages to participate in physical fitness activities. There are a a few picnic sites with 7-8 tables each and two are nicely covered with giant shade structures. There are also lots of water fountains, garbage/recycling bins, and lots of individual picnic tables and benches. There are bathrooms and a snack shack on one side, but I think those may just be for use during baseball games. There is a small playground and they seem to have plans to upgrade.

I can't stress this enough because the owners who seem to come here every morning do NOT watch their dogs like the comments say. I understand everyone does things differently and can have a different opinion here, but my dog and I like to come to the field and train (she's a service/search and rescue dog) and interacting with other dogs we don't know can ruin her training. The morning that we came, we luckily got here early enough. These people don't respect boundaries- it's completely okay to have your dog off-leash if you're around us, but please make sure it's protected under voice control. It's extremely unsafe (speaking as a professional here) to allow your dog to roam off-leash with absolutely no training. If someone is new to the area and brings a dog that's reactive, it'll be very scary if a random dog approaches it. You should be able to train your dog to come to you when asked. I hope these owners learn just a little bit more respect to those who have dogs that don't want to say hi to other dogs, you guys do not own the park, and it should feel safe to everyone.

We strolled through the park and were amazed at the upgrades the city has made! First off, it's way bigger: there's a huge new grassy area that was being used by adult soccer, and a satellite parking lot. A walking path weaves throughout the park, making for a nice stroll. Picnic tables abound, including many with deluxe sun canopies. There are two playgrounds, one brand new from when we were last there. Tennis courts as well. And, as before, it's an easy walk to connect with other trails. Kudos to Walnut Creek on the work done to make this park even better.
