This is supposed to be coyote territory so I was scared to venture beyond the busier main area to explore. There's also a small community garden nearby but it's locked up and you can't enter it but it's super small so you can see pretty much everything from the outside of the fence. A bit of a sad park. I recommended Blake Garden in Kensington which has very limited hours but there's so much more to see there and it's also free.

Even drove passed it a million times, but finally stopped by to get a quick little hike in one evening. All I can say is daaaayum. What a beauty!!! Not only are the hiking trails wonderful, but the actual park itself is great. It's super clean with lots of parking and restrooms on site. They've got a kid's playground area, a soccer field, and even a track for some easy exercise. There's also an adjoining park that has tons of picnic tables and outdoor exercise equipment as well as several large grassy fields and walking paths (Hidden Valley Park). And those lakes! They are simply beautiful. They really sneak up on you too. I took a short walking path from Hidden Valley Park and connected to Hidden Lakes. Turned a corner and then BOOM! This beautiful little lake seemingly appeared out of nowhere. There's a nice little waterfall. Not sure if there are actually any fish in this lake, but I did witness one person fishing (or at least trying too). The hikes in this park are all on the shorter side but perfect for a quick little jaunt. You can also extend it by connecting the nearby walking paths for a longer excursions. What's nice is that there are several hills that you can climb up to get some inclines in. And once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with some wonderful views of tbt entire park as well as some great panoramic views of the city. I was seriously in awe during my entire time here. This is such a gorgeous and extremely well maintained park that's perfect for kids, pets, and families. Will definitely be getting my butt out here again before the end of summer.

This park is located right of the 242, its easy to access with lots of parking. The kids get to play in a small scale castle, stores, and boat spaces to keep them entertained. Every time we come here, our older son just runs around until we say it's time to go home. We go for walks in the neighboring park and fields to get some exercise in as well. Check out this park if you're in the Concord/Martinez area to discover something new. They recently updated the fields nearby and parking lot. They have food trucks on the weekends. Newhall Park is a large, neighborhood park not far from where I live. It has many things to…read morerecommend it, and yet it has been ages since I've been there - maybe I'm guilty of the "grass is always greener" syndrome. But finally, my wife and I returned on the recent Sunday and were reacquainted with all it has to offer. It's a good park for walking: there's a flat, dirt path that circles the park; I didn't measure it, but it's a decent length, especially if you make multiple rounds. Along the way you see the park has a large bocce ball court, a popular dog park, and a good sized hill for cardio purposes with the Concord Vietnam Memorial on the top. A weekend adult soccer game was going on in the middle of the field. On the other side of the park is a pond (we saw an egret, ducks and geese), and a marsh-like area with tons of cattails. Galindo Creek, heavily shaded with trees, borders the edge of the park. A number of benches let you take a break when you need it from your walk. Newhall Park is a little rough around the edges visually. There's none of the graceful elegance of a Walnut Creek Larkey Park, with its paved path, lush green grass and stately trees. Newhall's grassy areas are functional, but look beat up with numerous dead spots (maybe blame the soccer). The walking path is hard dirt, but can be messy after a rain. The parking lot also is unpaved, and is in poor condition with bumps and holes. We noticed a number of cars parked along Turtle Creek Road prior to the park entrance. But these are minor concerns. In the uber-populated East Bay, any park is a welcome break from wall-to-wall homes, stores and concrete. Newhall Park is an easy way to get out and breathe the fresh air, and deserves the popularity it enjoys. That Walnut Creek park may have greener grass, but sometimes that park down the street is all we need.

I don't tend to come here much as the grass bothers my allergies, but it's a lovely walk in Fall and hooks right up to the nearby trail.
