This place is a gem. Really good for walking your little dogs, for hikes, playing basketball, or kids playground, and has a beautiful soccer area. There are picnic tables and plenty of parking. Clean bathrooms that the city of Martinez does a good job of keeping clean. We go to this place over and over again because it's just so nice. read more

An underrated park with trails and playground, soccer field and of course 'hidden lakes.' Very popular park that has good vibes. Its unexpectedly good. There are so many overrated parks around - this is not one of them. I think its an underrated park in an underrated city. Martinez is one of these cities that just isn't Walnut Creek or Danville or Orinda. A more affordable city and a family friendly one. Its good to get out and take a walk. I recommend you do that once in a while and why not try a different park from what your used to every once in a while? If you have a dog they will particularly love it sniffing around someplace new. Some of the park is noticed from the main road - Morello. You might even see some people enjoying the basketball hoop from there. Just the 'curb appeal' of the park will get you interested to see more. When I got here with Sweets had in gear this launch mode I hadn't seen since he was a bit younger. His enthusiasm was intense and I was surprised since for the most part he just likes to stay at home - Netflix and chill. There really is something for the whole family to enjoy here. A very underrated park that you need to make time to see one day soon. read more

Hidden Lakes Park is beautiful, even if there just isn't much to the park. We didn't expect it to rain this last weekend so when we found the trails incredibly muddy we shortened our walk and made our way past the reservoir over to Hidden Valley Park, which is paved. The reservoir area at Hidden Lakes has so much potential, with a couple gorgeous benches and a community garden (unfortunately locked), but it could just use more community involvement. The few sections of the path that are paved are fairly crumbled and there aren't any maintained flowers or murals. Most of the trails in this park aren't reinforced for rain (no gravel), so as we found they are fairly un-walkable in weather. All in all under a sunny sky I could see this park being a 3.5, but as it was there just wasn't enough here as a draw to bring us back, even in better weather. read more

Wowza! This place is definitely a hidden gem that's tucked away with some of beautiful "hidden lakes". It's all in the name, folks! I swear lil ol' Martinez never ceases to amaze me. I'm always finding the most wonderful little spots in this city. Been meaning to visit this park for a loooong time. I'd always heard that it was nice. Even drove passed it a million times, but finally stopped by to get a quick little hike in one evening. All I can say is daaaayum. What a beauty!!! Not only are the hiking trails wonderful, but the actual park itself is great. It's super clean with lots of parking and restrooms on site. They've got a kid's playground area, a soccer field, and even a track for some easy exercise. There's also an adjoining park that has tons of picnic tables and outdoor exercise equipment as well as several large grassy fields and walking paths (Hidden Valley Park). And those lakes! They are simply beautiful. They really sneak up on you too. I took a short walking path from Hidden Valley Park and connected to Hidden Lakes. Turned a corner and then BOOM! This beautiful little lake seemingly appeared out of nowhere. There's a nice little waterfall. Not sure if there are actually any fish in this lake, but I did witness one person fishing (or at least trying too). The hikes in this park are all on the shorter side but perfect for a quick little jaunt. You can also extend it by connecting the nearby walking paths for a longer excursions. What's nice is that there are several hills that you can climb up to get some inclines in. And once you reach the top, you'll be rewarded with some wonderful views of tbt entire park as well as some great panoramic views of the city. I was seriously in awe during my entire time here. This is such a gorgeous and extremely well maintained park that's perfect for kids, pets, and families. Will definitely be getting my butt out here again before the end of summer. read more

You can choose to be in flat areas if you'd like, or hills with significant incline as you'd like. It's a vibrant area with a lake, lots of trees and open space. Do you want to play soccer with your friends? This is the WRONG PARK to show up to. Park is public but whole soccer field has been given to clubs to play. Goals only gets unlocked when clubs are present, and coaches are so rude and try to kick you out of the side of the field. P.S Saturday and Sunday you can bring your own goal to play. While actual goals just sit there for no use of public. Otherwise they have a basketball court and picnic areas. You can go for a walk and run. Thats why only two stars. read more

Review #077 - 2020 Being locked up in your house is not a lot of fun; but it's even worse for those of us suffering from heart conditions, because we need some form of exercise and plenty of fresh air. I brought my 15-year old niece and 4-year old daughter here on Sunday, April 26th, at around 2 PM. There was actually more people out & about than I'd expected. The park's parking lot is closed, but I guess locals can still come out and hike, as long as they kept their distance. I ended up parking at the nearby homes, which was what a few others did. Plenty of people were out fishing at the lake, where the water fountain is located. Actually the water fountain was one of the main reason why I chose this particular park to hike at. The hills are great for people who enjoy hiking, whether you are just hiking for fun or an extreme work out. There are plenty of hills, some are more steep than others. The one that we hiked up felt pretty tough, but my 4-year old still managed to get to the top without much help. The playgrounds were blocked off, but there were a few guys using the monkey bars as their work out area. There's a soccer field as well, where a few guys were playing. I wanted to try & hike as far as we possibly could, but it was so hot that we had to give up after only two miles. I'll definitely try & make it back again in the future. read more

I adore this park. (Side note: Is Hidden Valley Park the same as Hidden Lakes Park? I'm writing this review for both postings on Yelp, because they are either right next to each other...or they are actually the same park.) I love jogging here. I can run miles through the cute trails along the water and up through the rolling hills, or along the paved paths and around the track. The far side of the park (maybe the Hidden Lakes side?) has two baseball fields, a basketball court, sand volleyball pit, and a turf soccer field! Both sides have picnic areas, but the side I'm calling Hidden Valley Park, along Center Ave, has a larger playground with more play structures and much larger picnic areas, both reservable spots, and non-reservable picnic areas, fully equipped with easy hand crank grills on massive barbecues. This is the perfect place to have your kid's birthday party, or bring your family for a picnic, to take the dog on a walk, or to get some exercise everyday like I try to do. There are always families and dog owners out and about around Hidden Valley/Lakes, so it always feels very safe. It's most beautiful when the grass is green through winter/spring, but it's still a peaceful and rejuvenating place anytime of year. read more

Great family-friendly park if you have kids since there are a bunch of active options (playground, trails, soccer, baseball, basketball, etc). Beautiful spot for an easy hike located in a residential neighborhood in Martinez. From the parking lots you can access the hidden lakes in a brief 10 minute walk in either direction. The park has a beautiful new soccer field. They have a snack shack, ample parking, and bathrooms. There are also baseball diamonds and a play structure. If you walk behind those, the trails to the hills and hidden lake lie. It's nice that you can customize if you want a little elevation or an easy walk throughout the trails. The pond is gorgeous and you can go fishing in it as well. There are many photo ops with the trees, pond, and bridges throughout this park. read more

I grew up playing in the park on the Hidden Valley side with some great memories of the cement slide with my bestie Beth. I never new there was another park connected to this park until about a year ago. This is one of our favorite parks to visit in our neighborhood. It is connected by a bridge and whinding trail from the Hidden Valley Park. Both parks have play structures but this side of the park offers more. It has a small track field, several soccer friends and a few baseball diamonds, during the little league games a reasonable priced snack shack. 2 age appropriate play structures, one for toddlers on the north side of the park and another toddler play structure next to the large big kid play structure with climinmg walks and jungle gym. I love the modern foam ground at the play areas. Basket Ball and a Volley Ball courts. If you are up for a nature hike adventure you can either take the Cardiac Climb straight up to the highest peak of the park and see Mt. Diablo and beyond the Bay (so I have been told, I have yet to conquer the first steep ten feet of this climb) if you decide on a leisurely afternoon hike down to the 'hidden lakes' you will see beautiful butterflies, lady bugs, hear wrens chirping, and maybe hear a snake or rodent wrestling in the bushes. I have spotted a few people fishing but I haven't seen any catches. I have seen the signs about no swimming but have seen a few kids wadding in the lower lakes little gravel beach as they frolic with their motorized sail boats. read more

I like walking to the top of the mountain here above the track - it has beautiful views of contra costa county and is a fun hike most people and dogs can make. The trails and lake are lovely the park itself is great if you have a climber and child who loves soccer - the fields are usually booked out. They have another side of the park where you can rent party spaces from the city and have a whole other park with more to do. It is a very large park. Baseball fields, hiking, large fields, soccer field, mountains, lakes, there's a hidden tree swing somewhere, picnic and bbq areas, it's a gem! read more

Martinez, a town of two personalities. There's north of the trestle, the old town blue-collar refinery part that hasn't changed much in 70 years. Then there's south of the trestle, which feels like a 1960s suburb. And Hidden Lakes Park is quite representative of the south-of-the-trestle location where it is. It has a baseball diamond. It has a soccer field. It has a jogging track circling the soccer field. It has fire roads and trails criss-crossing the open meadows. It has two short and scenic hills. And it has - surprise - two hidden lakes! And it has a kids play area. And I took the rating down by one star here. I had last been here in maybe 2009 or so, and my preschool daughter loved climbing, sliding, and swinging on the large playground structure. It was filled with kids. Now go to an unseasonably warm January day in 2013 -- and no more play structure. It was replaced with a few standalone rinky-dink thingies. My playground-loving girl got bored after 10 minutes. The previous structure was great for kids; did the lawyers convince the city to take it out??? Now for the good part: the trails. Some are easy and joggable; others are quite the challenge. There are little magical hidden treasures here; mine is the rope swing near one of the lakes, a long hike down a narrow trail. There are also two long footbridges crossing the ravine. For good vistas, the twin peaks are easy to climb (my 6-year-old started from the soccer field and handled it easily) and reward you with sprawling suburbia, benches included so you and your lover can watch the sun set. I don't know if the part on Center Avenue is included in Hidden Lakes Park, but that portion has areas that are suitable for big parties and barbecues. It's good, but I'm still disappointed in the play area. read more

Volleyball and soccer field before one of many trails up the hill. The baseball fields are well groomed. Basketball courts are usually filled with people shooting hoops. There is a sand area where u can hang a volleyball net for maybe a family picnic. Small bbqs and picnic tables througout. If you walk further back past the soccer fields you will come across one of the many hidden lakes. There is a huge fountain in one and they stock it with fish! My son fishes here. FYI there is also poison oak. Walking the trails up the hills gives you great views.. definitely a park worth visiting often. read more

I absolutely love this park. I've been coming here recently for weekend walks, and am always taken back with how beautiful the scenery is; lush green trees, a pleasant little lake, and just enough little trails to venture through; provided with a few nice steep hills to give your workout a little push. They also have provided a nice little kid playing area, nice clean appearing picnic tables, as well as some baseball diamonds. We have walked here many times. If you are a family with kids, this place has a lot to offer. We do not, but see why families are drawn to it. It has a track that you can walk/run around, a soccer field, a baseball field, a playground, a basketball court, etc. They have adult soccer teams that play on the field too as well as kids games. There are many different trails and you can hike up the hillside for a good workout as well and an amazing view. There is a lake in the middle of it and a fountain that is nice. We have seen people fishing here, although I'm not sure how many fish are in the lake. We love taking our dog on the trails and enjoy exploring this park. There is plenty of parking and picnic tables that you can hang out on as well. read more

Nice clean park. A hidden gem in Contra Costa County. It's amazing how nice everything looks over here.

To get to the lake: take the trail behind the soccer field. There are many paths, but the lake willl be on your left after about ten minutes. Lots of green algae but gets nicer as you go along. When you can see the fountain you'll notice on the other side is more flatlands/bench/ people fishing possible. This is a nice place as a park,hike,quiet place. I'm not from the area but it looks like there are lots of trails. I found a nice spot right after the bridge when I could sit,read,and look for little fish. Didn't see a bathroom so use it at the park before you head in so you can enjoy yourself a bit more! read more

There are various walks around that area a mix of hills and flat areas. Great for dog walks. Restrooms too.

DOG OWNERS : We made the mistake of letting our dog off leash for 5 mins. She came back to us after running loose in the hills and a few minutes later we noticed ticks on her. We removed about 5 of them while still at the park. She has thick fur so luckily they didn't get a chance to burrow. My other dog who didn't go off leash had one burrowed. I would be careful and not let your dog off leash or not go to this park/trail at all. No one wants to deal with ticks. read more

Before construction, the ambience was more family friendly. Recently, the park has become dominated with soccer people who block the track with spectator chairs and canopies. It should be called "Soccer Park" now after the construction. I no longer take my family there on weekends. read more

The little kids play structure at this park is so fun. It is for the little kids so it's small. When a bunch of kids decide to come and play, it gets a wee bit crowded. My son was a little over loaded so we meandered over to the bigger kids area. The bigger kids area is on the complete other side of the parking lot. It's also farthest from the bathroom. Which is not convenient when your recently potty trained kid has got to go. We had to run to make it to the potty. My son likes running around the grass areas too. We saw some kids play baseball in the sandlot. We've also ventured into the hidden lakes part of the park. My son calls them "The Geisers". Usually his dad takes him on bike rides to those areas. I've heard they do stock the lakes with fish. I just don't know when. We would like to attempt to go fishing someday. Another thing to note, be aware of fish hooks around the lakes. We've had an issue with them being in little bicycle tires. Makes for a sad little boy. It's a beautiful open area for adults and children to enjoy. I'd say early evening is the best time to come visit. read more

I love this park. Tons of memories growing up playing soccer, running up and down the hills, catching people smoking in the trees on top, walking down to the hidden lakes, photography projects here during high school. Good times. One lap around the field makes one quarter mile, so its a good place for a walk, but the trails leading up the hills are the best. You get great views from up there, lizards sunning and tiny birds and hawks, some pretty wildflowers. Great climbing trees at the top. There is also a baseball diamond, two playgrounds, basketball court, sand volleyball, and a smattering of picnic tables. Check out the trails that lead down to the hidden lakes, great for walking your dog. Sometimes a little fishing to be done. read more

Wonderful local park with a wonderful view of Mt Diablo. You'll find all sorts of people here, families, kids, people with fur kids, etc. It makes for a great location if you want to throw a picnic or a party (reserve with city of martinez). The walking trails are all pretty interesting and the playground has all the things to make it interesting for kids. read more

Basically 3 parks in one. It's huge. the Morello side has a track, basketball court, baseball fields, volley ball court, picnic benches, bathrooms, 2 different play areas. The Center Ave side has a great play structure and a huge wide open grass area. The Lakes side is awesome the main lake has fishing, good bike and running trails. Just a great area to explore. Park on the Morello side for most things but the better playground for kids is on Center. Park has everything from jogging trails to a 400m track, to hills, playgrounds, basketball courts, softball/baseball, sand volleyball.. This is one of the parks that helps P. Hll win awarks for their park system. read more

Went to Hidden Lakes for Labor Day family BBQ. I love that we were close to the play area and can keep an eye on the kids from there. But who the hell waters the grass the night before a holiday? Our area was super muddy in some places. You can tell it had been watered the night before. The kids' shoes were muddy and the little crawlers were super dirty. Of course the kids don't care about the mess but it makes doing laundry not so fun. Looking forward to the next BBQ at Hidden lakes! read more

Recently found this park. It's awesome. Looks like it has been redone recently. It has a new soccer field. Playground for kids. Basketball courts. Volleyball area. My favorite part is the hills and trails. You can come here and get a great workout. No need for a gym membership read more
