I am not a hiker at all! But went on a short hike in the early morning. Luckily the day we went, it wasn't too warm. Trails are easy to follow. I did, however, have to make multiple rest stops because I was dying lol. View was gorgeous and the picture does not do justice. There were maybe 3 other small groups when we got there but we were so spread apart that we didn't run into each other. On the way back down, I had a mishap and my shoelace hoop hooked onto my other shoes hook and I took a nice fall. It was my mistake and not the trails. I didn't even try to fix my mistake because as we were nearing the parking lot, I tripped again (same reason) and I fell on the rocks right before the asphalt. We had a good laugh. The employee who was on the golf cart was on his way back and saw me on the ground. He kindly asked if I needed help but I was too busy laughing and embarrassed that I declined his help. This will definitely be a memory to remember! read more

Skyline has ample parking, well-maintained bathrooms, lots of trails, and campground at the base of the trails (looks like mainly equestrian camping). No dogs allowed in trails, even on leash. Maybe that's because of the equestrian focus, but I've seen dogs and horses allowed on trails together at East Bay Regional Parks and it seems fine. That would be my only complaint. Nice park! Been here for hiking a few times. A variety of trails, shady and sunny bits... some sections more hilly than others. The occasional bicycle on some of the trails is fine because everyone has been super courteous. They slow down when approaching, ring their bell, and say excuse me or hello... Unlike in Marin where they practically run you over! So I really appreciate that. I do think $6 to park is a tad much but I know it must be expensive to keep this place open and it is really clean so I understand. Plus, unlike an experience I had at a free park in the East Bay, I haven't had my window smashed and stuff stolen out of my car here. So $6 is worth it. I will say the staff at the front gate that take your money are really grumpy and like to ignore you. Been here like four times already and three of the times they were in the little building chatting or doing who knows what for several minutes before acknowledging my presence and taking my $6. This last time there were several cars behind me by the time they came to the window! They also don't always give a receipt which is odd because how else will I prove I paid if they ask? read more

Brought our trailer to Skyline for a couple nights to enjoy the Napa area. A little pricier for a campground but still affordable accommodations for the area. Paid $80/night for full hookups during the week. We did not experience any of the negative things that some of the poor reviews on Yelp described. No complaints here. Check in staff was very friendly as was one of the camp hosts and the golf cart attendant checking on us upon checkout. I do believe in general, employees are usually friendly when customers are not being a pain. So I don't put a lot into poor reviews here not knowing the whole situation or attitude behind the reviewer. It's the end of June so of course the park is dry and not green anymore like the spring months and previous photos. Ive included some here to see what it looks like in the summer. We hiked up the hill but didn't really explore much else as we were out and about in town most of the time. Enjoyed having a trail to hit to get some movement in after a day of indulging in delicious food and drink. Nice views of the surrounding properties and vineyards. read more

Stayed in the RV park for a couple of nights. We were lucky in that we had no one parked on either side of us for most of our stay, otherwise it would be a very tight fit. We did have a neighbor arrive late on out second night, the sites are so tight that you can hear each other's conversations. The sites are graveled/dirt. Most sites do offer full hook ups bathrooms and showers are available. Both were clean. Area is nice and quiet and we did have a deer come thru our site. Stars lost on the extreme compactness of each site. read more

We stayed at the RV park. The staff are helpful. The park advantages are it's in nature and there are trails. The RV park itself is dusty from the use of low quality gravel, the PVC and the wood picnic tables are disintegrating, and a bathroom toilet has a painted plywood lid so money is spent elsewhere rather than maintaining this place and at $80 a night with full hookups this is not up to standard even at a $50 price. The spaces are a tight with slides about 4' apart. read more

This is a really park trail but I am not a Napa native which but that's okay because I managed to come here with my mum and her awesome cousin who was in the Bay Area on a business trip. It's a lot more peaceful here and you start out easy on the bike but it later gets intense here. If you are a diehard cyclist this place shouldn't be so troublesome. Be warned there is tough terrain so please exercise caution on the bike. I have been riding my bike for a year and this place is no stress for me. That's what I call persistence. If you are hiking, you too must also bring your A game because the hiking skill level can be really tough here as well. I would come here again if possible because this seems like the right location to enjoy a great time with family. read more

Gorgeous hiking and mountain biking trails! I love that there were multiple hiking trails that are specifically hikers only! If you are hiking, take the hiking only trails. Its worth it. These are particularly gorgeous! I felt like I was completely submersed in nature with no one bothering us. No mountain bikers and no piles of poop. We took Lake Marie Rd (which is hikers, horse, and bikers) which is well paved/graveled and then the Lower Lake Marie Trail, which is hikers only. Lower Lake Marie Trail is very much the best part of the route we took. And then back down Lake Marie Rd. The lake was a little sad...but thankful that the trails were well shaded! It is a nice outdoor space. It also has a "Secret Garden." It is a nice place with things to do other than wine tasting! $5 to park. Decent bathrooms, which are hard to come by nowadays. read more

great trails as long as you have a GPS to keep you on track. there is good signage, but the trails are grown over in many places. there's a decent mix of shade and sunshine. plenty of interesting volcanic geology to see along the way. nice views. watch out for the bikes, but most of them are very courteous and ring the bell as they approach. What a beautiful park!! This past weekend was my first time visiting and it was so pretty. Wildflowers are everywhere in the park right now, which adds to the beauty of those green rolling hills. The park's 18 hole disc course was about 2.5 miles by the time we finished it and it has some rolling terrain to keep it interesting. Some blind holes that help for a spotter to assist but honestly the park's course is very well maintained and labeled which is a treat as sometimes that is not the case in this sport. Every tee box has benches which is nice for spectators as well as to put your bags down while throwing. This park is more than a beautiful disc course though, it also has archery, event camping, a beginner 9 hole course (that was shit in this weather so -1 star), super clean bathrooms and on the backside were showers, trails to hike/walk/run, bbq pits and tables. $5 to park and they provide a map if desired upon arrival. read more

A great park with plenty of hiking/biking trails of varying difficulty. We took the Lake Marie Road up, the Chaparral Trail around Lake Marie, and the Skyline Trail back down at a fairly leisurely pace, which took us about 3 hours. Lake Marie would be an easy-moderate hike, whereas Skyline is definitely a harder (but still moderate) hike, where the path can get fairly rocky and narrow. You get some nice views, though due to recent Kincaid fires the views were somewhat obscured by the smoke at Skyline. Don't forget to bring water! read more

Camped here 1 night and it was very pleasant. It's basically pitching a tent on a lawn, but they did a good job limiting # of campers so it didn't feel too crowded. Bathrooms were very clean as were the showers. You do have to check in before 6:30pm but then can come back later if needed Made a reservation earlier in the week for Friday night. I guess we are a little off season so might be harder to reserve once it gets busier. We saw a decent RV section, as well as a horse camping section This worked out well for us- camped overnight, woke up and hiked (nicely maintained trails, just watch out for bikers), with nice views of Napa and the lake. This is one of the North Bay's gems; not exactly hidden, but tucked away in the hills of Napa. I love this park. They've got miles and miles of mixed use trails that meander through a surprisingly wide variety of landscapes and habitats. One minute it feels like you're in the desert, and the next you're in Jurassic Park. I used to go to Skyline a lot to hike, but lately I have been playing disc golf, so I visit a few times a week. If you're into disc golf by the way, they've got two beautiful courses. The lower course, "Pitch and Putt," is great for beginners, or advanced players looking for a nice easy round. The upper course is a real tough sumbitch, as grandpa would say. It's long, arduous, and unforgiving (Be prepared to put in a lot of steps), but tons of fun. It is really well designed, requiring a variety of shot shapes. There is good signage, nice long concrete teepads, and they recently put in a bunch of new baskets. Back to Skyline in general, I definitely recommend checking out this beautiful outdoor park. If you want to check it out but need more info, there is an information kiosk where you can get trailmaps and learn about what the park has to offer. At the time of this review, parking at Skyline costs $6 for cars, and a bit more for RVs. Get out there and have a little adventure! read more

If I rate the park and the location and the hiking my review would be alot higher but my review is the customer service. When we first drove up to the park we were greeted with a old grouchy lady who said it's 6 dollars to park and you need to leave by 5. She never asked our name or if we had a reservation. Which we did. My son was following behind me and she gave him a hard time too. My other son had already arrived the day before and was all set up. Then they ride by 4 times in their cart to harass us about parking in the handicap parking which we are authorized to park there and other things and I feel we were just targeted because of being a black/Mexican family. They went to no one else's camp site. They were just harassing us. In all fairness though this was the staff and not the owners. My son said the owners were very nice when he arrived. read more

We found this place by accident. I was looking for an RV Park in Vallejo so we can do our yearly Judo pilgrimage. We normally stay at Tradewinds in Vallejo or Motel 6 if not wanting the trailer. I wonder how we never saw this place before. It is very beautiful. Also so close to Napa, I can't believe how inexpensive it is. There is a lake and butterfly garden. Full hookups for $35, dry camp for $25. I see that there is tent camping as well as day use from 7am to 7 pm. Napa camping, 20 miles from 6 flags in Vallejo. There is a shopping center less than 2 miles, super walmart, Denny's 24 hours, 7-11 1/2 mike and a laundry facility next to 7-11. Also McD's and In/Out burger on the corner where you turn to camp. All this and yet a very tranquil, country setting. My family has been traveling to the Bay Area to do Judo for almost 10 years and now we have a new place to camp. I would highly recommend this Rv/Camp sites for anyone that wants to stay a few days and explore the Wine country. read more

What a gorgeous day! It was low seventies and overcast when it's usually 80's/90's. We did 3.5 to 4.0 hours of hiking on a Sunday afternoon. Hardly anybody on the trails. Skyline is a pretty difficult hike up to the lake, but great vistas...all the way to the bay. We meandered through different trails to the lake and took a long hike back down. Barely got out before park closed at 7p. NO simple trails with easy hikes! The trails will also leave you dusty. They have showers (it's also a campground) if you plan ahead and bring a towel. read more

We took the Skyline Trail (outer/upper) over to the start of the Napa-Solano Ridge Trail loop (currently closed due to mud). There was some climbing (I'd rate it as moderate difficulty) but it was fun and the setting was gorgeous (with scenery changes). Over at Napa-Solano, we considered doing the Rim Rock Trail but ran into a biker who told us it's very steep and strenuous so we doubled back to Lake Marie. Had lunch at the lake (beautiful and serene) and took the Chaparral Trail to the Manzanita trail and back to the park entrance. It was probably about six miles total. I recommend this route as we really enjoyed it. - Be aware that there is wildlife here (including mountain lions and wild pigs). We didn't see any though. - Bring ample water as usual. The outer Skyline Trail was in partial sun but as we got deeper into the park, more and more trees appeared. - Make sure you've got hiking shoes with good grip. **THE PARK CLOSES AT 6PM SO PLAN ACCORDINGLY** **Certain trails are closed (Lower Marie Creek & Toyon) due to fire damage while the Napa-Solano Ridge Trail is closed in the winter due to mud. This place is truly all about location location location. It is very crowded in this area because of a lot of people coming out here to go hiking mountain biking disc golf playing in horseback riding. We didn't notice a lot of people driving the RV park which was great. read more

Skyline Park offers the most amazing and versatile hiking trails in the area. Hikes can satisfy the most avid high country backpacker and the family with a toddler who really only wants to pick up rocks and sticks! Early mornings in spring are magical and the buckeye trail offers a treasure trove of sights, sounds and smells that will sweep you away from the stressors of the everyday world. Skyline park is not free, and at $5 per car, a regular visitor might be discouraged by this- BUT- consider investing in an annual family pass and come as frequently as you please! Family passes run January 1 to December 31st and you get up to four cards for only $60! That means that you have the ability to bring four cars to the park at anytime (yes, even on the same day) for free, with the one-time investment into a park that is constantly being targeted for rural development or mining purposes. This park is a part of me. My parents have been bringing me here for over 30 years and now I am bringing my daughter and other friends and their children up to explore the trails, trees, flowers, streams and breathtaking views that I love so much. Please Note *** As of November 20, 2017 *** The fires took a big toll on our park and for the safety of hikers and all visitors the park is still closed for day use. Please don't blame the park or smear the people you think should are responsible for not updating the website or notifying the general public in some way. Look into it more deeply and help us solve the problem. We were all seriously affected by the fires and most of the people that work at the park are volunteers. All of us here in Napa are diligently trying to get everything back together, so consider calling ahead of time- call the park, or the Parks and Recreation Department before heading out. Had two great nights and days! There was some confusion upon arrival about where I could park my Class B campervan. Legally it is not an RV and is allowed in any regular parking space. Campgrounds usually permit me in tent campsites. RV spots are often unsightly parking lots with noisy generators. Apparently county regulations say you can't sleep in your vehicle and must have a tent. I'm older and do not sleep on the ground anymore. The staff woman finally put me in "horse camp", out in the boonies by myself. Loved it! The second morning did a trail hike and checked out the 3 acres native plant garden; the children's area was delightful. One point off for lack of shade trees along the camping area. Otherwise a great place just 15 minutes from historic downtown Napa! And $45 night instead of the $300 room. read more

Definitely not the hardest hike in the world but the first mile or so going up hill can have you breathing heavy. "Bare bones" RV Park...barren sites spread out over large area (online Park pictures are highly deceptive)...however, if you are a hiker or horse owner this park becomes a "5 Star" park instantly because of its easy access to the wonderful trails available at the Skyline Wilderness Area adjacent to the Park (also a wonderful archery shooting open area!)...forget internet or TV, its virtually nonexistent at this Park, but then again, if you're trying for a "nature outing" then you've found the right place! read more

Great park for hiking. Not free, but trails are ample and not too busy on a midweek day. Walk to the right of the parking lot, past the field, to the bridge to start the trail. Paid to see the botanical gardens. Basically an area of native plants, rather than a Butchard Gardens type place. Serene and well labeled. Bring water! Cool to see lizards, birds and a nice view. Skyline Wilderness Park is an awesome county park in Napa. It is located close to downtown Napa so you do not have to travel far out at all to get here. It is $5 to park and bathrooms are located in the parking lot. There are all sorts of trails to choose. The lady at the ranger booth recommended the Lake Marie Road to get to Lake Marie. This trail is around 2-2.5 miles to get to the lake. The entire trail is at a slight incline with a few spots with downhills. My SO and I ran/hiked this trail on our trip to Napa and really enjoyed it. We actually did not make it to Lake Marie because the rain was starting to come down really hard so we decided to turn around early, but it is on the list to do next time we are in Napa. The trail is actually pretty rocky and sandy, not on dirt, so it wasn't too muddy running in the rain. The trail is pretty shaded as well with a few areas being completely exposed. The park is beautiful and you can hear and see the creek below the trail as you get closer to the lake. I imagine this trail could get quite hot during the summer due to the incline and heat, so make sure you bring lots of water and fuel for your hike. My boyfriend and I were in the park for around 2 hours and wish we could have stayed longer. I defiantly recommend this park to anyone looking for a nice hike while visiting Napa. Loved getting some exercise before a full day of wine tasting and food. read more

Heard about the park at a conference I am attending. Very good variety of hiking trails. Challenging but not horrible. Very nice views and really not at all crowded for a Saturday afternoon. The park attendant was very nice. I asked for military discount and she let us in for free. Only $5 for a car if you have to pay which is not too bad. read more
