    Friendly group of hikers

Wow what a well-kept secret in the East Bay. I happened to run into a group of hikers led by the docent Jim. What a fantastic group of people really friendly. The park opens at 9 a.m. 4 days a week. Don't forget to pay the $6 parking. There's also a Outhouse at the parking area. I went on a very long hike throughout most of the trails in the park. Several days after a rain many of the trails were pretty wretched, making it a little difficult to hike. There were some cows and I did have to go around a few mama and calf pairs a few times, but it wasn't a big deal. The trails are generally pretty well marked. However, some of the trails are hard to spot. On a few occasions I had to bring out my smartphone to confirm exactly where I was.

The hills between the valley and the bay are passed through on highway 80 by hundreds of thousands of people but only a few actually get off to explore this area. This is such a unique area because here hot air meets cold air, making it windy and foggy in the summer. However, in the spring before the valley heats up you can enjoy a beautiful sunny clear day. Because few come walk these trails you'll have the trail pretty much to yourself even on a Sunday. Do follow all of the rules and lock the gates behind you because you do share these beautiful grassy hills with livestock. We came across horses here. We also tried to fly kites here. When it is windy enough there are plenty of places to fly kites because there are many open areas.

We went on a guided hike at Lynch Canyon Open Space on Sat 11/28/09. It's a crazy spot to hike that nobody but the locals know about it since it's really under the I-80 freeway! Weird spot, but kinda cool. From I-80, exit at American Canyon/Hiddenbrooke Pkwy. Turn East on McGary Rd (parallel to south side of I-80) & follow to I-80 underpass. Turn Lt and go through gate at end of cul-de-sac to gravel parking lot. Parking is $5 per car as of 11/28/09. There's one pit toilet in the parking lot, that's it. We started at Lynch Canyon Staging Area. Began hike on Lynch Road trail with side trip to Lynch Reservoir. Hiked on Tower Trail. Continued on North Ridge Trail and Saddle Trail. Made a short out and back on Prairie Ridge Trail to a peculiar small structure (private). Returned on Middle Valley Trail. We did about 7-8 mi total from 9:15am-1pm. We saw: cows, birds (waterfowl & raptors), rocks, hills, I-80, some buildings of Napa, Golden Gate Bridge. Pretty cool views. Can be crazy windy there - you've been warned! During your hike, you WILL encounter cows or some type of herd. Parking is self-serve, $5. Wish I could write more, but we stopped right before the fork where you choose to either: A) continue onto a long walk OR B) proceed onto a more difficult, steeper trail. Option A is the simpler choice. Option B is more difficult, but more scenic. From the top is a view of American Canyon and Napa. More worth it in my opinion, and more of a hike. Not the most scenic hike, but if you want to hike locally...

Nice place for a hike or a bike ride. Excellent views of the valley. On a clear day, you can see across to the bay. There is no shade, so make sure to bring a hat in the summer time. Also, it can be pretty windy near the top.

Exercise equipment. A large field for soccer games. Lots of parking. Restrooms and water fountains. Play structures for children. I considered buying a house in this area partially for this park. The dog park is separated into two areas which are not connected. The small dog park is very flat and down some steps or a slope from the restroom picnic area. The large dog park is to the left and goes on a hill. The large dog park has two paved paths. One is like a switch back. The other goes straight up the hill. There's water fountains for the dogs at both the top and bottom of the park. There are also two double gated entrances. The park has some agility structures at the top of the hill, some metal benches throughout, waste bags and trash bins. The landscaping is mostly dirt/bark. There are plenty of trees in the park so the dogs to sniff. It's a great park for the sniffari type of dogs. It's also quite large! It's great for getting your steps in to walk up and down the paths. Most of the people I've met there have been great. On one occasion I have seen a dog walker bringing in 10+ dogs at once... The only words of caution I have would be to dress for the wind and in the summer I have witnessed a snake in the dog park.

The only downside is no matter what because of the location expect high winds at almost all times of the year and day. One of the greatest things I love about this park and I hope to preserve is how clean it is . Rarely as their trash scattered and almost always the parties pick up after themselves where they can meaning they put their stuff and bag it up and put it in the trash or take it out to the dumpsters. This matters when you have a community space ! there's also bulletin boards throughout that show when the parks are reserved for events or when the tables have reservations for parties. (to book reservations or parties you do it directly through the Fairfield rec and parks website.) Last but not least they have a shared book library . It's been there for about three years now I believe.

I recently found out about this place from a friend's Instagram story when they went. So I made…read moresure to plan a hike here for when I had time. I was able to come here in the middle of the week around noon. The GPS made this place easy to find. There is plenty of parking here at pena adobe park and lagoon valley park. The hike is located at lagoon valley park, so don't mix those up. You do have to pay $5 for parking, and the machine kiosk was broken when I went, but you can still pay through the park mobile app, which is what I did. The hike is listed as moderate, but felt borderline difficult to me (maybe I'm just out of shape). There is a lot of up hill when you first start, and because there wasn't a lot of shade combined with me going on the hottest day of the week (low 80 degrees), it did make it feel more difficult. After I parked, I was a bit confused on where to go so had to ask someone finishing up their hike for the direction. I was instructed to go up the main trail past the gate for the main trail to the lighthouse at the top. There are lots of trails here, but the one to the top of the hill is the most popular, and probably the most difficult). Once you park in the lot by the lake/pond, you cross the road to the grassy side and follow that trail to the gate that keeps the cows inside. There is another easier hike/walk your can take around the lake/pond, which is mostly flat. The views on this hike are great. Despite it being a little warmer, the breeze helped a lot. I liked the views and made it to the top after about 1 and a half hours. In total, it took me about 2 hours to finish the hike. And that's with a 20 minute break halfway going uphill. Going downhill is a lot faster. I'll be back for one of the other trails and how to bring family and friends to join.

Magnolia Park is still newer, so of course it looks beautiful and well-kept. There are covered bench and table areas to enjoy a picnic or even throw a party. Those, unfortunately, are the only shaded areas at the park. Given how hot Vacaville can get, this is quite disappointing. The dining areas are fairly clean, for the most part. We will, unfortunately, always have individuals who will not clean up after themselves though. In regard to play areas, there are a couple areas where both big kids and little ones can enjoy. The jungle gym areas have bark to help soften kids' falls. I'm personally not a fan of the bark, since it gets in shoes, cause splinters, and what not. Thankfully, other areas have a thicker rubber covering the ground. There is also a water station where kids can play and enjoy playing in the cool water. This was a huge hit for many of the kids (and adults with their children) during the summer.
