I recently found out about this place from a friend's Instagram story when they went. So I made…read moresure to plan a hike here for when I had time. I was able to come here in the middle of the week around noon. The GPS made this place easy to find. There is plenty of parking here at pena adobe park and lagoon valley park. The hike is located at lagoon valley park, so don't mix those up. You do have to pay $5 for parking, and the machine kiosk was broken when I went, but you can still pay through the park mobile app, which is what I did. The hike is listed as moderate, but felt borderline difficult to me (maybe I'm just out of shape). There is a lot of up hill when you first start, and because there wasn't a lot of shade combined with me going on the hottest day of the week (low 80 degrees), it did make it feel more difficult. After I parked, I was a bit confused on where to go so had to ask someone finishing up their hike for the direction. I was instructed to go up the main trail past the gate for the main trail to the lighthouse at the top. There are lots of trails here, but the one to the top of the hill is the most popular, and probably the most difficult). Once you park in the lot by the lake/pond, you cross the road to the grassy side and follow that trail to the gate that keeps the cows inside. There is another easier hike/walk your can take around the lake/pond, which is mostly flat. The views on this hike are great. Despite it being a little warmer, the breeze helped a lot. I liked the views and made it to the top after about 1 and a half hours. In total, it took me about 2 hours to finish the hike. And that's with a 20 minute break halfway going uphill. Going downhill is a lot faster. I'll be back for one of the other trails and how to bring family and friends to join.

This place is great right now late January. I think it's probably hot as heck in the summer. My…read morekids and I went for a walk around the lagoon, it took us about 50 minutes. Nice walk on a dry day. Would be super muddy in the rain. Seems like a place that's only good during a particular weather/season. Parking is $5+. Lots of picnic tables, some bathrooms and a playground available. We'll probably be back if we find ourselves in the area.

I've hiked with Napa Land Trust a bunch of times & continue to hike with them when I can. My last…read morehike was Linda Falls on Sunday 1/9/11. It's a short moderate hike of about 3 miles roundtrip. To hike with them you need to plan ahead and make reservations. I booked my group of 4 about 3 weeks beforehand, but I've done it with only a few days notice. Meet the leader Chris, then we carpooled to a location she told us in Angwin. There wasn't much climbing, & only 2 rushing creeks that we had to cross - nobody fell in & I didn't even get my feet wet. That was nice. I was at the lower more dramatic falls to Linda Falls & was able to go down by following the pipe, then heading down. It was not too scary. The middle cascade up higher was nice, very top cascade wasn't much. Best to go to the bottom & look up. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/KjQcSZOtbG-Ev2PQaLb8TQ?select=59AxVR2wCFTnKP6ixCM0PA It's a 31 foot waterfall. Hike back was really short only about 10 minutes & we were done. Hike took 3hrs to finish from 10am-1pm. Next schedule Linda Falls hike with the Napa Land Trust is Sunday 2/13/11. Came for a hiking outing, so not for fishing nor kayaking. Though on the lake itself, there were…read moreplenty of those activities. So this place is off the beaten path. It is tucked into the hills east of the Napa Valley. The country roads to get here are narrow and windy. Though a little tough to get to, what you will get in return is lack of crowds and serenity. Did a 5 mile loop here, which started with a climb up a hill through an oak lined trail. It climbs for about 25-30 minutes, and most parts are quite shady, so quite nice. Most of the views are just of the neighboring canyon landscape. You also may run into a few cows here and there. You also may run into pockets of bugs flying in clusters. This doesn't really *bug* me, but just FYI. On the descend is where you will run into the lake. The remaining part of the hike will now be flat, out in the sun but literally lake side. The blue from the sky and lake mirror off each other. A cool breeze often bounces off the lake to ease you from all the sun bathing you will be exposed to. But if you take out your earbuds for a while and just listen to the natural sounds here, (highly recommended), it will sedate you into a meditative state. This lake is so quiet, that you can hear the voices from the people on the boats, hundreds of yards away. It's crazy. So lots of bikes on this trail as well, especially this flat, lakeside part. So keep on the right side and be mindful on what's behind you at all times. And even though out in the cuts, you're still really only about 20 minutes away from restaurants/wineries of the Napa Valley.

As a local, this is one of my favorite places to spend time outdoors. If you follow the road all…read morethe way until it dead ends you can park and follow the trail around the lake, or you can go up into the trails that veer off of the main trial up into the hill. These paths are dog friendly which is a huge plus, and the trails are great for mountain bike riding! We've also kayaked as well and have come across fresh water otters that are so curious and love to follow your kayak. The absolute BEST time to come visit is in the spring when the grass is so green and all of the flowers are blooming. The water is usually very calm and there is a ton of wildlife to just sit and watch. It's one of the most scenic places in the valley, and it's so close to downtown St. Helena so after you can always go get lunch! Whether you're visiting or live in the valley, visit this gem!

Prior to excursion, my friends and I had to reserve a spot on their website. The initial tour ended up being fully booked, however, James the guide offered open up another day due to the moon tour being so popular. The meeting area was at the boat launch ramp area. We signed waivers and were given a run down on kayaking 101 (it was our first kayaking excursion) with 4 other people. The weather was warm, the waters were calm and the mosquitoes were biting. So don't forget to apply sunscreen and have plenty of bug repellent! Wear water shoes, bring snacks and water. Also, maybe bring a small fanny pack or water resistant bag to carry small items in. As we paddled, James checked up on everybody and made sure we were all doing okay. Along the way he informed us about the wetlands and what type of wildlife were around. James even provided us with his own bug repellent to use to keep the mosquitoes at bay. Once it was dark enough, we settled in an area of the wetlands to wait for the moon to rise. My friends and I were elated and in awe that we got to see the Harvest moon rise on the hills whilst kayaking. Kodak moment for sure. The journey around Suisun Bay lasted for about 2 hours. It was a cool experience, especially with the moon acting as our guiding light. My arms definitely got in a work out from paddling so much. Overall, great experience, reasonably priced and James was professional and informative. Highly recommend!
