Small dog park (obstacle course in background)
    Sandy L.

Disclaimer: My review is only applicable to the dog parks. I have not used any other facilities in this park. The dog park was built around 2020 or 2021. So as of 2024 it's still fairly new! It's well maintained. Sometimes the poop bags run out. When they do the community steps in and adds more until the City refills. The City of Fairfield has been very quick about responding to fallen trees. They listened to the people and moved trash cans inside the dog park area. These are lovely dog parks. Well shaded with very large mature trees. There's some metal bench seating under an awning. Some people have brought in picnic tables and installed a leash holder shelf. There's even obstacle/agility courses on both sides for the dogs. There are designated water fountains inside. The large dog park has a nice paved walking path. The fencing is 6' on the large dog side and about 4' on the small side. Beware the large dog side has a section near the agility course where your dog can dig out and run in the fenced in section between the park and the neighboring apartment complex. Don't bring your escape artist small dog here or do so with caution. The people and community here have been pretty friendly. The location itself as you can read from the other reviews is a bit sketchy. I wouldn't be here alone after sunset. There are homeless people nearby. The designated dog park parking lot is very small. But there is additional parking nearby with a short walk. My dogs really like this park. There are squirrels in the trees. So there's lots of natural enrichment. If the parking lot was larger and the location wasn't questionably safe this would be perfect!

    Wall climbing area ,padded

Thank you to the city for providing such an amazing park for families in our community. The park is vibrant and colorful, the layout was thoughtfully designed, and it is a fully enclosed gated park. There are 2 entry/exit points. One in front of the parking lot and one towards the back that go directly into the fields. There are about 2 dozen parking spots and at least 4 handicap. There is plenty to do here. Two regular swings, two baby swings, two pull over swings, one double swing. ground level, spinning saucer. Over a dozen grounded, picnic tables. Free lawn space that's inside the park where you can play catch or kick around a ball. A garden rock area with a grounded toddler level, interactive wall maze. They have multiple wall climbing options. There's thoughtfully placed seated bench areas. The picnic tables are covered and I love that half of them are on the level of the playground and half of them sit overlooking the playground. It gives me the feel of the Oceanside, Long Beach parks We've seen down south. They have an ADA compliance ramp to the top level. 3 bathroom stall, 3 water fountains. A few observations. There are minimal trashcans. I only saw 2 on the lower level and 2 on the top level. I can Imagine a few booked birthday parties in the same weekend and there would definitely not be enough trashcans to accommodate cleaning up and servicing the daily regular traffic. I also did observe some damage already to the wall where it looks like it's being picked out. There were a couple of standing cones to somewhat "rope it off" but that didn't stop the kids from accessing it. And lastly, I love that it's an adaptive playground with the gate. However, the gates remain open. As always, keep your eyes on your kids, but do not rely on the gates if you have a wanderer or runner (like myself). :) Overall, great addition to the city.

    Great skate park
    Nobuyuki S.

While there is much more to it, this park has a really good skate park. There are rails and stairs to jump and plenty of things to grind. There is a shallow bowl. The restrooms near the skate park were locked, apparently to prevent homeless people from living in there. Unfortunately, parking is shared with the swimming pool and playground, but further away, naturally. The group skating were agreeable. I was a bit surprised that the police drove through the park three times, checking for whatever near the skate park.

Exercise equipment. A large field for soccer games. Lots of parking. Restrooms and water fountains. Play structures for children. I considered buying a house in this area partially for this park. The dog park is separated into two areas which are not connected. The small dog park is very flat and down some steps or a slope from the restroom picnic area. The large dog park is to the left and goes on a hill. The large dog park has two paved paths. One is like a switch back. The other goes straight up the hill. There's water fountains for the dogs at both the top and bottom of the park. There are also two double gated entrances. The park has some agility structures at the top of the hill, some metal benches throughout, waste bags and trash bins. The landscaping is mostly dirt/bark. There are plenty of trees in the park so the dogs to sniff. It's a great park for the sniffari type of dogs. It's also quite large! It's great for getting your steps in to walk up and down the paths. Most of the people I've met there have been great. On one occasion I have seen a dog walker bringing in 10+ dogs at once... The only words of caution I have would be to dress for the wind and in the summer I have witnessed a snake in the dog park.

The only downside is no matter what because of the location expect high winds at almost all times of the year and day. One of the greatest things I love about this park and I hope to preserve is how clean it is . Rarely as their trash scattered and almost always the parties pick up after themselves where they can meaning they put their stuff and bag it up and put it in the trash or take it out to the dumpsters. This matters when you have a community space ! there's also bulletin boards throughout that show when the parks are reserved for events or when the tables have reservations for parties. (to book reservations or parties you do it directly through the Fairfield rec and parks website.) Last but not least they have a shared book library . It's been there for about three years now I believe.

I was able to come here in the middle of the week around noon. The GPS made this place easy to find. There is plenty of parking here at pena adobe park and lagoon valley park. The hike is located at lagoon valley park, so don't mix those up. You do have to pay $5 for parking, and the machine kiosk was broken when I went, but you can still pay through the park mobile app, which is what I did. The hike is listed as moderate, but felt borderline difficult to me (maybe I'm just out of shape). There is a lot of up hill when you first start, and because there wasn't a lot of shade combined with me going on the hottest day of the week (low 80 degrees), it did make it feel more difficult. After I parked, I was a bit confused on where to go so had to ask someone finishing up their hike for the direction. I was instructed to go up the main trail past the gate for the main trail to the lighthouse at the top. There are lots of trails here, but the one to the top of the hill is the most popular, and probably the most difficult). Once you park in the lot by the lake/pond, you cross the road to the grassy side and follow that trail to the gate that keeps the cows inside. There is another easier hike/walk your can take around the lake/pond, which is mostly flat. The views on this hike are great. Despite it being a little warmer, the breeze helped a lot. I liked the views and made it to the top after about 1 and a half hours. In total, it took me about 2 hours to finish the hike. And that's with a 20 minute break halfway going uphill. Going downhill is a lot faster. I'll be back for one of the other trails and how to bring family and friends to join.

Magnolia Park is still newer, so of course it looks beautiful and well-kept. There are covered bench and table areas to enjoy a picnic or even throw a party. Those, unfortunately, are the only shaded areas at the park. Given how hot Vacaville can get, this is quite disappointing. The dining areas are fairly clean, for the most part. We will, unfortunately, always have individuals who will not clean up after themselves though. In regard to play areas, there are a couple areas where both big kids and little ones can enjoy. The jungle gym areas have bark to help soften kids' falls. I'm personally not a fan of the bark, since it gets in shoes, cause splinters, and what not. Thankfully, other areas have a thicker rubber covering the ground. There is also a water station where kids can play and enjoy playing in the cool water. This was a huge hit for many of the kids (and adults with their children) during the summer.

When you push the button for the water area a set of sprinkles will shoot water up in some random pattern for kids to run around in. The water area seems like it's suited for toddlers, but even older kids really like it and will crowd you out if you're not careful, it's playground rules after all. The city is pretty good about keeping the park clean and fixing broken equipment, which they better be since local residents are paying monthly maintenance fees. :) I come here all the time with my son and we never see anything too jarring as far as trash goes and even if the equipment is dirty, it's usually cleaned up by the next time we visit. There's also a set of 4 picnic tables under a gazebo type structure, along with a few other tables and bbq grills around the playgrounds. Thankfully there are also some trees lined up close to the playgrounds and these provide some shade for parents in case the picnic tables are too far to keep an eye on the little ones. A short distance from the playgrounds there is a half court for basketball and a small skateboarding area. To be honest it looks like this area is not totally finished. I would pack some extra clothes in case your little one decides to get wet on a hot summer day :)
