Thunder in tha house!

Thunder was the coolest horse on the block! He loved to pass gas and was great at following commands. I felt extremely comfortable on him and Ava was an awesome wrangler!

Super fun horseback trail ride around the vineyards. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. They provided us with boots and helmets and assigned a particular horse to each one of us. The ride was 50 minutes long. All along the ride, our guides were telling us about the winery, and a little about each horse, their personality, and life story. They also took a bunch of photos of us which let us focus on horse riding fully. The photos turned out very nice. I think it's a great way to spend a date with your significant other. Plus you always can enjoy some wine tasting and lunch after you are done with the ride. Definitely recommend!

Went for a horseback ride in Napa Valley, all I can say is the girls were wonderful and the wine tasting was quite delightful, don't miss it! They are part of Shadybrook estate

Hubby and I went for our anniversary. Even if you've been to every winery in the Napa Valley, you've never experienced anything such as this one! Touring the vineyards on horseback was amazing! The guides take their time making sure everyone was comfortable. The horses are also very chill. The guides take a lot of pictures, so you don't have to worry about capturing the moment while on the horse. The vineyard is also beautiful. This is a wonderful experience for the Napa locals and for those visiting. Highly recommend! The tasting at Shadybrook was also amazing. A great tasting experience with beautiful views. The wine and food pairings were so good. Bought 2 bottles to enjoy. Mary is a gem! She is so knowledgeable and friendly. We will definitely return!

Hubby had wanted to go horseback riding for his birthday and I looked around Yelp and Google for a place to do that. I came upon a few places that had horseback riding in Napa but this place stood out to me more because after the ride you can choose to do wine tasting. I decided to go with that package for a 50 minute horseback riding and wine tasting after. Upon arriving, we followed signs to show us where we will be checking in for the horseback riding experience. There is a form that needs to be signed prior to starting the horseback riding. After signing the forms we waited for the other couple to come back before starting. Closed toe shoes with a heel is required when riding. If you do not have any, they do boot rentals for $10. Helmets need to be worn during the ride and is provided to you. Our instructor Gustavo was soo kind and great with the informative instructions that he was giving us before we started. We were all basically first time riders. I don't know how they go about assigning the riders to the horse but I ended up with Beau, one of the horses who has been there the longest and Hubby ended up with Leo. I honestly thought it would be hard to get up onto the horse even with the steps that they provide, but it was actually pretty smooth. After mounting the horse they showed us what to do to get the horse to go, how to stop, how to get them to turn and how to back up. Once we were comfortable we started to follow Gustavo for the ride! It was such an amazing experience! Hubby and I couldn't stop smiling throughout the ride. The vineyard was just so beautiful. It was super hot out though, I believe I ended up getting a tan. We stopped a few times to take pictures as well. Everybody there was so kind and helpful! When we stopped for pictures Beau was just not having it! He just wanted to continue on with the ride and didn't want to stop for pictures. Once the ride ended I was pretty sad, but Hubby and I really enjoyed our experiment! After the ride the horses were brought back to the stables and we were able to walk through it to look at them. The couple that was with us had bought carrots and offered me one to feed them. Gustavo brought us over to the terrace for our wine tasting. As we were waiting, one of the staff members asked for our last name so that they can seat us accordingly. Once they finished setting up the placement for us we were brought over to start our wine tasting. The gentleman that assisted us, I believe his name is Jorge (? I'm so sorry if I got that wrong) he was so helpful and insightful with the wine pairing with what was on our cheese board. Everything was just so amazing. We tried about 6 different wines, the cheese board was delicious, and we also had a furry friend to keep us company. Thank you Napa Valley Trail Rides & Shadybrook Estate Winery for making Hubby's birthday so wonderful! We will definitely be coming back!

One of my favorite Napa outings yet! My fiancé and I are obsessed with wine tasting and for his birthday I knew I had to plan something special. I booked the "Ultimate Ranch Experience" with a 30 minute horseback ride followed by a wine tasting and it did not disappoint!! The team at Napa Valley Trails Rides were so welcoming and friendly right from the start -- shout out to Maddie and Desirae! We are not horseback riding pros by any means and they got us set up with our horses and made us feel very comfortable. The ride was the perfect - didn't feel too short at all - and offered stunning views of the vineyards and rolling hills. Our guide even stopped us midway for a photo op! Then it was off to the wine tasting portion of the day. The set-up was really nice and intimate - great furniture and you are pretty isolated from other parties. Very luxe! They give you a generous charcuterie board and the wine is so good! TLDR: This place is the real deal!!! Highly recommend if you want a Napa Valley excursion you won't forget.

Very relaxing and wonderful ride. The horses are very well cared for and healthy. Tbe facilities are impeccable. Gus, my trail guide was very experienced, having worked with horses around the world. He lunged the horses before setting out to make sure the horses were ready for the ride. He also made sure I was comfortable with my horse, Dante. While the ride is relatively short, it provided a unique perspective of Napa.

What an amazing experience!!! Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Gorgeous and healthy horses! Beautiful winery!! Everything from beginning to end was a pleasant, once in a lifetime experience. We went here for my daughters' eighteenth birthday celebration. We were first time riders and a small group of four. We were greeted and directed with friendly staff. Clean gear (helmet and boots). I appreciate the safety. The horses and stables were gorgeous! Well kept, clean and organized. The staff gave excellent, clear and helpful instructions. Much thanks to the two ladies for their positivity and patience!!! We had a wonderful 30 minute ride around the winery. I can't say it enough, thank you to the staff for helping us feel comfortable on our very first ride on horses. We will never forget this experience! I highly recommend to all! I will come back again.

The location is beautiful. My first experience around a horse and I was so happy with the ride, my guide was really was knowledgeable and the whole experience was peaceful

What a great place! Our instructors got us boots, helmets, checked with us on our riding ability, and matched us up with a horse that matched our experience and size. They gave each rider instructions on how to handle the horse and let us ride around the stable before we head out to the trail. Once we did they had one leading and one trailing to make sure we don't run into any challenges. The ride itself was beautiful and the horses we so calm and responded to our instructions really well. Once we were done they let us stay on for photos and say bye to our horses. First class facility all the way. We will be back again.

What a beautiful setting and a beautiful day. The equestrian facility is large and impeccably maintained as are the horses. Gus, our guide, gave all three of us individual instruction on how to ride our horse and let us practice before leaving the corral. We then followed trails throughout the vineyard and Guy took lots of pictures that he shared with us at the end of the 50 minute ride.

Ask the Community - Napa Valley Trail Rides

Are helmets mandatory even if you're an advanced rider?

We do require that all riders are fitted with a helmet for their safety. In addition, a closed toe shoe with a 1" to 1 1/2" heel are required. We do provide boot rentals for $10 if you require the correct shoe to ride.

This winery is owned by a wine-maker, Bulmaro Montes, a former vineyard manager and vice president of operation of Joseph Phelps Vineyards. Their vineyard is really small (only 2.6 acres!) and Cabernet Sauvignon is the only variety that they plant. I had a chance to taste their wines, named Marita's and Soma with Spanish-influenced tapas that were prepared and served by Pilar (a very nice and friendly woman), who is a receptionist, server, and chef at the winery. Their tasting room is in fact a cozy house with a nice view of their vineyard, so that I enjoyed both wines and food in a very family atmosphere. Marita's Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied and dense yet elegant. Soma is also elegant and smooth with good acid-tannin balance. They offer two types of tasting: one with tapas and another with food paring. You need to reserve a tasting since their place is tiny and they can accommodate only one party at a time. Please expect about an hour or two for the tasting. If you've never been there, it is a bit difficult to find the place. So, please make sure the direction before you go. Everyone having wine chose the Signature Flight, which included one white and three reds. I appreciated the option to substitute a Sauvignon Blanc for the Chardonnay, a nice personal touch. Each wine was distinctive, balanced, and delicious in its own way. You could really tell the care and craftsmanship behind every pour. What really stood out was the hospitality. Our host was not only incredibly thoughtful but impressively knowledgeable. She explained where each wine's grapes were grown, described the flavor profiles we could expect, and added insights into how the terroir influenced the wine -- all without it ever feeling too technical or over our heads. Even better, our designated driver was offered iced tea, lemonade, or an Arnold Palmer, which I really appreciated. It's always a plus when tasting rooms consider the full group's experience, not just the drinkers. The vibe was so warm and relaxing, we ended up staying for over two hours. It felt less like a stop and more like a true experience. Definitely one of the highlights of our time in downtown Napa.
