We are in Conifer and have had terrible service for the past year and a half. We pay for a pitiful 5mb plan and are lucky to get 1/2 that on a good day. Many times, we are unable to use our phone (it runs through the same system as the internet). Numerous calls to the company have yielded nothing but frustration. One technician came to our home in January to check on the signal strength from the tower and told us that the Morrison tower, which provides our service, had too much load and data was being dropped. He said he thought it was scheduled for some equipment upgrades which should help the issue, however there was no guarantee. He said he saw this issue multiple times a week and was frustrated because he was unable to do anything about it. He even suggested seeing if we could find another ISP. As far as I can tell, this gentleman is the one and only honest/competent person working for the company.
Our service became almost totally unusable in February. When I called the company, I was told that it was because work had started on the tower and it should take a month or 6 weeks to improve. After the time had past, our service was still almost unusable so I called the company back. At that time I was told that while plans were in the works for the tower to be upgraded, no work had been done on our tower. In fact contracts for work had not been signed and parts had not been budgeted for. So we had been LIED to several times.
After discovering the company was giving us the run around about the status of our tower, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. They are not members and have a lengthy list of complaints against them, but I thought it would be good to try another route. Skybeam immediately sent another technician to our home and went through the same tests as in January. However this time he blamed our brand new router for the issue. We have upgraded our router several times. My partner is a software engineer who has also worked as a network engineer - he knows how to set up a router. I disputed their findings and addressed the lies, the overload on the tower, etc. The BBB complaint went nowhere. They denied over saturation on their tower and continued blaming our router. We even tried a different router with no improvement. While we have upgraded our router, we are still using the same 6 year old equipment we received from wispertel (the company we were with before they were unfortunately bought out by skybeam). They refuse to replace it or even consider that it may be part of the issue (along with the fact that they willingly oversold their bandwidth and cannot provide the service they should).
This company is HORRIBLE!!!!!!! The only reason we are still with them is because we have been unable to find another ISP that services the mountains in our area (other companies have been blocked from the area or do not have the infrastructure to deliver service. We don't even have cell phone coverage in this area). They have a monopoly and they do not care that they are NOT delivering decent service. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!! They do not deserve to be in business. As much as I dislike large companies like Centurylink, Comcast, etc, I would gladly give my business to them if it were a possibility because I know they would deliver the service we pay for. Skybeam will take your money and give you less than 1/2 of what you pay for - if you're lucky. I wish I could give them negative stars. read more
