We were clueless about what plants to get, but had a long list of criteria (nothing over 3-4 feet, hardy, flowering during different seasons, mostly deciduous, pretty and interesting, some native...) for two big planters that are for our new retail space. I'm really over this place. Every year they carry a particular hard-to-find-elsewhere plant that I *love*, however I don't live close enough to come in every week and look for it myself. Instead, I have: -Called and left my name and number with the buyer -Called and asked if they had it, was told no -Made the trek out there to look for it, just to be told they JUST HAD IT and now it's gone What else can I do? One of my hands down favorite places to buy my gardening and plant needs in Seattle. They have everything you can possibly need- from indoor and outdoor plants to ceramic pots, soil, gardening tools, bulbs, insect control options, and everything in between. This nursery is really fun and easy to navigate- you walk inside to the store where you can find ceramic pots, gardening tools, and most of the non-living items you would expect to find at a nursery. Once you're done there, you are welcomed into the amazing outdoor plant greenhouse area that is filled with endless options for your gardening needs. Herbs, trees, ground cover, etc. Everything is nicely labeled and easily navigated. To your right you can also find the cutest cafe that has coffee and snacks if you need a break from shopping. Then you come to my favorite part of the nursery-the indoor plant shop. Full of succulents, air plants, cacti, and the awesome low-maintenance plants. I could spend hours in here! Everything is decently priced and all the workers are super knowledgeable and approachable. My only tip is to grab a box on your way in cause you'll need it! read more

We've purchased our Christmas tree at Sky the past few years and it's always been a great experience (even in the rain). They have a great selection of sizes and varieties, so it doesn't take long for our family to find a few favorites to choose from. I do recommend going early in the season for the best selection. The staff is very helpful, answering our questions, and engaging with our kids. They especially like it when the staff asks them what our tree's name is so they can write it on the tag. The only downside is that we have to go all the way back through the store to have to pay. It would be helpful if we could pay out back where the trees are. Maybe this year with COVID that might be an option? We'll be going in soon to pick out our new tree so will see. What makes up for the extra walk and wait at the cashier, is that they will tie down your tree on your car for you. Which is a huge perk from other places we've been to in the past. After paying, you drive around back and give them your ticket and they secure your tree on without us needing to get out of the car! Our trees always last several weeks at home and look and smell nice. Tip: if you bring back your tree stand the next year you can save money with a stand exchange. read more

This place is like a magical gardening theme park. They have EVERYTHING. Well, except basil. I couldn't find the basil plants, but I have a feeling that was user error. There was so much to look at it that it's easy to get distracted. The staff is very helpful and friendly, and it has pretty much any plant and plant-related accessory you could imagine, even carnivorous plants. Who would think to get a plant that eats bugs? I don't know, but if you want one, they have 'em here. I just wish it weren't located so far from my apartment! read more

Great selection. One of the most diverse retail nurseries. HOWEVER!!!! Everything is priced above retail and not by even a little bit. I've seen annuals here for $100 just because it's not common. $12 plus for a 4" pot annual is ridiculous when it costs them much less than that to buy. A terra-cotta pot that is $39 at Lowe's is $100 at Sky. Their glazed pot prices are through the roof. DOUBLE what they cost at the pot store over by Lowe's in Lynnwood. They're the same thing from the same distributor. Sky just like to rip people off. Many non plant products actually all of them can be had at a much lower price anywhere else. If you are willing to drive just a little bit you can get all of the same stuff elsewhere at a fraction of the cost. Don't be fooled! read more

This is a great nursery with tremendous selection...its huge, but frankly lacks the charm and cachet of Molbaks in Woodinville. But if you're on ugly Aurora Blvd. in Shoreline, this is a true oasis of potted natural splendor fully enveloped by suburban blight. Special applause for the little koi pond, the excellent water features they sell and the well displayed and copious selection of roses. read more

Came here with a friend who is all into her house and gardening...and man, what a gorgeous spot for plant shopping this place is. Don't mind that clusterfuck of a parking lot, though. I swear...that parking lot set off a level of anxiety I feel only when I'm surrounded by bad Asian drivers. Nope. No bad Asian drivers here. Just bad Seattle drivers...which makes us bad Asian drivers look reasonably competent. I had never been here before and it's a bit of a distance from where I am -- it's about 20 miles from me. However, it was worth the drive. From the moment I stepped into the establishment, everyone, including the customers were friendly, polite, and so very helpful. They were also extremely patient with my friend who had a million questions and who, in the end, I'm fairly sure dropped close to $1,000 on trees and plants. If I were to re-do my garden, I'd definitely be coming here for fruit trees, shrubs and flowering plants. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. There is also a cafe inside if you want to purchase water, coffee, or a snack for when you're browsing everything in the nursery. read more

When I came here a few days ago, everything seemed so calm. As soon as we walked into the indoor plant area, the woman was there and telling us that she had to make sure there were only 10 people inside. My only critique is that the orchid moss was only sold in big bags. I hope in the future they can sell smaller bags of the moss. read more

We placed an online order but couldn't resist visiting in store during the special "at risk" Wednesday session to pick up a few extras. It made me feel safe as all employees were wearing masks and the customers were respectful of the mask, one way isles, and social distancing regulations. I would like to reiterate some of the comments about bulk material pickup at Sky Nursery. The lower yard is an uncontrolled mess run by rude young men and little direction. I've been in landscape construction for years and feel like a rookie getting yelled at when picking up materials. I don't care to pay extra for slightly better quality but leave Sky Nursery feeling angry and unwelcomed. I have written them a letter. Personally I'm unable to return to their store and will reaquaint myself with Pacific Topsoils. More like a flower shop than a landscape supply house as they attempt to be. Update: 7/8/2020 Thank you for your considerate response. I understand the difficulty of managing such a large and diverse outfit. I agree some simple changes are needed in the lower area. Over the last few years the activity was in stark contrast to the great layout and quality help found in the garden area up top. I'm a frequent buyer of bagged materials and their process is the standard for material pickup. Sky Nursery has been a great for source for hard to find or better quality products for an impressively long time. SH read more

Customer service has really dropped here. I've been here twice this season. both times were negative experiences because of the staff. On my first visit, a worker (a woman with short gray hair) looked like she was arranging small plants out on the floor. I asked her where to find something; she told me. But then I had another question, and apparently that was too much for her. When I said, "I have another question for you," she looked really annoyed, told me that she had someone waiting on the phone, and took a few steps away. Wow! Her words, face, and body language made it perfectly clear she was not interested in helping me. I replied that she might as well go get her call and made a note to myself to avoid her in the future. On the second visit, I waiting in the long check-out line that spaces shoppers down the main aisle away from the cashiers. Finally made it to the front. Waited while all the checkers helped other customers, watching for which one would open up next. One opens, the prior customer leaves the check out stand, the cashier raised her arms as she turned to the register, and I push my cart up to it. The checkout person (a woman with long white-gray hair) turns to me and says, "Look, I'm closed now." She sounded totally exasperated. I told her that I waited in line and she raised her arm when the customer left. She said, "No, I had my back to you, and I'm closed now." Wow! So I push my cart back to the long waiting line of other customers. What happened to this place??? I'm going to try a different nursery next time. PS: This place is also pretty expensive. read more

I tried every florist in Seattle but with this COVID-19 no florist had gardenias ...so that she would have a gardenia in her hair for her birthday I looked on line to see if they had a gardenia plant and although there's no shopping inside, the cashier Mary came out to my car ...I explain what I wanted and she was able to find me a beautiful plant!! 5 stars for Sky Nursery ! read more

I'm new to this whole plants thing and started developing interest after a terrarium class that I took. I came here to look for succulents and was very surprised by how big this place is! Having said that, I had to locate myself to find succulents which took a while but I had fun doing so since I got to look around. I wish an employee could've offered to help but they were busy doing their own thing. Prices were reasonable, and my kitchen top is happy! read more

I knew Sky had a reputation for having an amazing selection of everything. I was hoping this to be true for our visit - and we were not disappointed. The selection of pottery, plants and products in all departments was fantastic. We got everything we came for. Not only that, but the process of having pots and bagged goods loaded up on the roadway was incredibly helpful. The guys took their time, worked together and fit everything safely into the truck. I go here every year to add to my home orchard and garden. They have a very extensive variety of outdoor and indoor plants. I just bought some cool hybrid fruit trees that are a mixture of cherry and plum that are called "pluerry". Let's see if they actually produce fruit! Everyone there knows so much about gardening. Very customer centric environment. They also have a coffee shop inside the store so you can chill and drink coffee while you shop. They serve my favorite chai called Sattwa Chai. They have a ton of different pots and items to dress up your garden or indoor plants. There's also a lot of able bodied workers who load your car and will help you being items to your car. There's ample parking. One tip is that the fruit trees are less expensive in the middle of the summer as compared to buying in the spring. read more

They offer a variety of flowers, vegetables, trees and shrubs. They also have a good selection of fertilizers, garden tools, pots and garden decor. I've been here multiple times. Service is hit or miss (or I'd give the place 5 stars). When they are busy, forget about trying to ask anyone a question. You'd be lucky if you actually found someone. If you go at an off-time and catch one of the sales people, they are super helpful. One lady help me create an stunning container garden for my balcony - a lime cyprus surrounded by giant wave petunia's and coleus. They even provided fertilizer recommendations for my citrus tree along with some tips for care. It can get a little costly if you go nuts like I do, but It's well worth it! read more

In this economy, Sky seems to be doing amazing, still. I guess it is because flowers make people so cheery. Either that, or we are becoming smarter, and realizing that planting our own food can be cost-effective and make us self sufficient! (This from a total amateur greenthumb... My tomato plant grew a total of 3 tomatoes last year!! LOL!) I went there with my sisters last Wednesday around 1-130 pm, and the parking lot was still pretty packed! I remember coming here as a little girl, and it sure has gotten a lot bigger with its new outdoor greenhouse addition (I'm talking it looks like at least 10,000 extra square feet has been added!) It is not easy to navigate the nursery without a little help, and I had a damned hard time finding anyone to help us find what we were looking for (After all, it was raining, and we had a 2 year old with us). Don't get me wrong, there were a ton of employees walking around, but they were doing that head-down-eyes-to-the-ground-fast-paced-try-to-look-busy thing that I hate. It was only after we spent 15-20 minutes wandering aimlessly and b**ching aloud that I would LOVE to have a job where I walked around all day ignoring customers that looked lost, was when an employee finally piped up and I was able to ask her where the two specific plants I was looking for were. After a little navigation help, we were able to find a beautiful fern and two blueberry bushes for our Mom for Mother's Day. And my nephew Logan got to look at the Koi Pond (still the same after 20 years... I wonder if they are the same Koi too! They looked pretty big!) and all of the fountains, and the plants in the "Jungle Room". It was a pretty successful trip, the plants all looked so healthy and well cared for, and prices were about what we expected for a nursery. Definitely the place in the Seattle area for the best variety and quality plants. read more

WOW! After coming here for decades, I will no longer be doing business here. I walked into the store and walked through half the store, into the ceramic pot section. I approached an employee, (Karen) to ask her a question. Before I could say anything, she said loudly, (as if she wanted to drive a point home or embarrass me) "Sir, where is your mask?" I had no idea that they were required in this particular business, as the 'mandatory mask' isn't required in King County until the 18th of May. I asked her if they were required in this business. She snapped and said, "Yes! There's a sign on the front door and it's on our website. Come with me and I will get you one". As she led me away, I told her that I didn't see the sign on the door, (as I have never stopped to read every sign, flyer, fundraiser or lost pet that's posted on on any businesses I support) and told her that I didn't look on the website before coming in. She kept scolding me and I had enough of her belittling and told her to stop scolding me. Further that I was a grown man and I totally understood what she was saying. She did apologize, but at that point I had enough of the embarrassment and I really just wanted to leave. I had also walked past several other employees before running into Karen, even speaking to one briefly. Not ONE of them informed me about their mask policy. Our family has spent well over $40,000 at this place throughout the years and we will never be coming back again. This used to be a fun place to come as a child and bring my own family. It was a place to build memories of shopping and working together in the yards of the different homes we've had. I'm very disappointed in the way I was treated by Karen. I'm a grown, professional man who is respectful and I expect the same from others, not to be publicly shamed or scolded by a stranger or employee of any establishment. read more

Sky Nursery is my ultimate Sunday. Good thing, since I seem to have to come every week. Come prepared to browse awhile. Grab a coffee and look at everything. Definitely take the time to chat with the folks that work there - they're super knowledgeable and friendly. Buy things a bit out of season and they have great clearance prices (deciduous trees in winter for 75% off = I can actually afford a japanese maple!) Love buying the big bags of their mulch and planting mix. Ok, here's the one and only complaint: they sell their share of (A) Genetically Engineered (GE) stuff (B) invasives, and (C) plants that are poorly adapted to our climate. If you care about (A) the world (B) your neighbors, or (C) your expensive plant babies surviving the winter, do a bit of research ahead of time, or rely heavily on the employees (but try not to offend - these problems exist at every nursery and are related more to consumer demand than their personal ethics). This is the mecca of all Seattle gardening stores. Simply based on size alone, this place wins. It's absolutely huge. And when springtime, sunny day, and weekend all align, this place becomes a madhouse. Of course, this meant we had to partake of the insanity. The parking lot was a mess of poorly marked spaces and bad drivers. I'm sure on less busy days, it's more maneuverable. It's really overwhelming. On a less crazy day, I'm sure you can spend hours here just enjoying the vast selection of plants and accessories. Not to mention any kind of landscaping supply you may need. But on this crazy day, it was shove or be shoved. And I was on a mission. I needed shade plants and a rose trellis. I got the last of a very nice trellis which we grabbed first to use as a crowd pusher and made our way to the outside plant lot which offers more space on a crazy day. Any kind of plant you want, they probably have. I dreamed about getting a weeping cherry tree or red maple. But not sure I have anywhere to put one. I found some beautiful ferns I wanted and they were in great condition. However, compared to other garden stores around, the plants here are about $2-8 more. This is both good and bad. Bad if you are cheap and just need some plants. Good because you are paying for nicer plants that are more mature than most places. I felt justified getting my ferns here and getting the geraniums somewhere cheaper. And the koi pond and statuaries are so beautiful. Makes me wish I had more garden space to play with. read more

Happy to come here for specialty items, we usually hit this place up during the holidays, their Christmas event and decor selections are great and its a Winter wonderland in there! Recently went for a Fall harvest festival, for the youngest kiddo, it was fun for her and there was plenty of parking and a lot of stuff for the rest of us to look at. Staff seems to enjoy their job and you can tell as they are very friendly and helpful. I've used them for bulk soil and sand purchases the guys who load you up are skilled and are very good with their aim on your truck bed! Less stuff I have to wash off afterward! Only minus are the prices, but for the selection and quality, it's worth the extra. I just luv their recent upgrade to their showroom and green house area, you must visit when you are in the Shoreline area. read more

I have been coming to Sky Nursery for 30 years. They were always a little better than Fred Meyer, and Home Depot in selection and quality and variety, and a little less difficult on the pocket book that Mobachs or Swansons. And I could find most anything. Plus they had a back area where I could buy soil, compost, bulk materials at the best price around Well, this spring, they totally redid the building and expanded the place. I visited twice, with my usual spring list of things to buy, and you know? I couldn't find a damn thing. Nobody had any maps to tell me what was where. When talking to the help about how I didn't like the new store, (and I talked to three people) they all said, yes we moved in January, we hated it when we first moved here and now we like it. Did anyone ask me why I was having problems with the new store? Did anyone give me a map so I knew where to find things? NO. From now on, I'm going to Swanson's and Pacific topsoils. And on 173rd and Aurora, there is a guy who runs a great outdoor nursery who used to run the famous Chubby and Tubby Nursery. And there is also a good Fred Meyer nursery down the street. Sky, you have gone too upscale and you are just too hard to use now. Sorry. I'm sad. The staff needs a lesson on how to orient customers to this huge new building or the owners are going to go out of business/lose their shirts on what has been obviously a HUGE investment. read more

Sky is my happy place. I love going here and browsing. Great variety and everything always grows so well when I plant it. Love the coffee shop too. Things I would change if i could. No one ever says Hi or Can I help you. They seem too busy or too important to bother with you. I also do not like the fact that you cant bring your dogs in anymore. I understand why they changed the rules, but its not fair for me to follow them, and other people waltz in with their chihuahua and poms in their purses and try to convince me that it is a service dog. Its disrespectful to those that seriously need service animals to pretend you have one. read more

Sky Nursery is set up with three different areas: the shop with a small selection of plants, the grounds outside with a large selection of trees and shrubbery and a new greenhouse with a vast selection of all kinds of plants and trees. The shop itself is tiny and filled with signs stating that they are in the process of transferring more plants to the new greenhouse. Most of the pots, fertilizer and other plant accessories can be found here. A few of the smaller plants (and a lot of houseplants) can be found in their small attached sunroom. Outside there is a wide range of trees across the grounds, including a seemingly endless array of different types of maple trees. It's actually a bit serene to walk across the grounds: with the tall trees and a small fountain; almost like being in a zen garden. You can forget that you're only a stones-throw away from Aurora Avenue. The new greenhouse is gigantic and is impressively subdivided into: annuals, perennials, northwest native plants, container plants, vegetables and seeds. Each category corresponds to numbered tables spread across the greenhouse. Wherever you go, the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Overall, the sheer quantity of plants is notable and you probably can find whatever you're looking for here. The prices are a little bit higher than what you'd pay at the local Home Depot (or than if you're stealing your neighbors plants at 3 am), but they also look to be in better condition. I'd say that if you're looking for some cheap, hardy plants you could pick those up at a Lowe's or Home Depot, but for anything more extensive, Sky Nursery would be a great place to start. read more

I can't say enough good things about Sky Nursery. We recently moved into a house with a huge yard, a raised bed, lots of flower beds, and shrubbery everywhere. After living in apartments for many years and never having really gardened other than in pots, it was overwhelming. We've made several trips to Sky Nursery and their staff is always helpful and knowledgeable even when I didn't know the exact right questions to ask. You can tell they hire and/or train people who really care about gardening and not just random people off the street. The selection is great, the plants all look good and well cared for, and the prices aren't too steep either for such a specialized store. I went in today (late July) just now starting to think about what to put in the raised bed, but worried about the timing season-wise and not getting myself in too deep, and talked to a staffer about what kind of stuff you can even start to grow this time of year. I was pleasantly surprised that pretty much the only stuff they had in stock was stuff that made sense to grow now. They also had a bunch of information sheets to give me about fall and winter gardening (which starts now, apparently). I then went outside to try to figure out what to do about dirt (the bed has some nice dirt but needs more) and found that they sell compost and a planting mix made with compost for 3.99 per huge bag! They give a good price on it because they buy in bulk and pack it in the bags themselves. The guys working out there were really pleasant as well. My husband, who is more into gardening, has been focusing on getting a variety of sort of "collector plants" as well as hummingbird-friendly plants, and they have really nice displays of these as well. I even saw two fat bees gorging themselves in the "pollinator plant" area and wondered if they were on the payroll. :) The nursery is a huge and overwhelming place for me, but the staff make it manageable. This has definitely become a go-to place for us with regard to anything garden-related. For hubby who is more interested in and knowledgeable about gardening, it's an exciting place to find new finds and interesting plants. I predict Sky Nursery is going to be getting a lot of our money for years to come. :) read more

This review is specifically for my experience with Peg, one of the sales associates here at Sky Nursery. This was my first time at Sky Nursery, and I was on a mission to make a gift basket arrangement for my friend who loves this store. And being someone who does not garden at all or know anything about plants I came here clueless and needing much help. As I entered Sky Nursery Peg was at the cash register, and she gave me a warm smile. This helped me feel comfortable enough to tell her my dilemma, of needing to make a gift arrangement for my friend who always shops here. Peg was completely understandable and friendly, and offered to go around the store with me. She got a cart to push around and when I told her my budget she was very straightforward and helped make an arrangement well below my budget, even though she could've easily sold me items since I don't know what anything is! As we were going around the store she told me a few items that all gardeners need, use a lot or really like. Some of the items were everyday tools, gardening gloves, lotions, and all the items had different brands and price points, which Peg was conscious about when telling me about the different brands and what was the best bang for the buck. My friend's gift basket turned out to have a lot of great items, and I could not have done this without Peg's help! Thanks so much, Peg! Sky Nursery is a very large gardening store, and I could easily see why my friend, who has a large garden and spends much time there loves this place. There is a large private parking lot and even a cafe stand inside. It's also located right off of SR 99, so getting here is pretty easy. read more

I went to Sky today to take advantage of the buy three- get one free for soil amenders. I thought my Rav 4 would easily be able to hold the 12 bags of 3 cu yds of material. Gabe, who was loading my car, was very patient with me as I had to move a child's carseat to the passenger front area. The 12 bags just barely fit inside, and I appreciated Gabe's positive attitude and clever solutions to my space problem. read more

Bought some Momotaro tomato plants last spring and they weren't as advertised. Tasteless and mushy. A big waste of time to grow. So I called Sky and was connected with the plant buyer who was totally uninterested in my story. She made no effort to offer a refund. Their customer service was a big disappointment. This place is pretty amazing. They always seem to have everything I'm looking for, which is nice. One-stop shopping is a bonus when you have a long list for the yard. From seeds, to irrigation timers ... plant starts and small greenhouses, they really have it all. Two things keeping them from a 5-star rating: - Sometimes it's difficult to find an employee who can help you locate something specific. Looking for raspberries one day I finally found someone to ask and he just pointed in the general direction of outside (a huge area) and walked off to do something else.
