My husband and I visited the nursery for the first time this past Saturday, during a quiet morning…read more Chris greeted us (appropriately from about 12 feet away,) and spent about an hour answering my many questions and walking us around the nursery to show us plant after plant. It's November, and everything is dormant, but he was kind enough to show us photos from his mobile phone and explain the growth habits of each plant as it grows. We ended up buying a few things, including a Japanese maple (the coveted "floating cloud" / Ukigumo variety!). The prices were extremely reasonable--very competitive with other nurseries in the area. I even found some great deals on time-tested perennials for only $5! (They need to be planted over, but a 1-gal perennial for $5 is a screaming deal.) It was a relaxed, zero-sales-pressure morning with people who obviously know and enjoy plants. With free local delivery on large ($500+) orders, we expect to be back again in the Spring! (For what it's worth, I am extremely conservative about my exposure to people and COVID, and I felt safe the entire time I was at Woods Creek. It was a nice, rare field trip outside the house.) I would highly recommend a drive to Monroe to escape the pretentious, overpriced, crowded, tchotchke-saturated "plant nurseries" in Bellevue, Shoreline, and Seattle. There's no coffee stand, only hundreds (thousands?) of plants and a few humans who love them.

But what really sets Stan apart from others, is that when we just had some of our bamboos "dieing" after many years of nurturing them, he actually took the time to give us advice when there was no sale involved. He told us to water our bamboos more and the leaves would come back on the bamboos that are still not completely dead, instead of cutting them all down now as we feared that we had to do. This saved our day, after all the hard work we have done to finally get our beloved bamboos to full size. Was googling around in search of bamboo vendors in the Seattle area and ran across Cascade Gardens…read more Located in Lake City (North Seattle), George the owner has an insane quantity of bamboo, hundreds of varieties. He was friendly, super helpful and willing to answer all of the bamboo novice questions we had about it. Clearly the man is passionate about bamboo and it shows. We ended up getting 7 large Dulcis plants to use as a screen in our backyard and couldn't be happier. George also offers services to deliver the bamboo and install it with the barriers needed for the roaming variety. We'll definitely be returning to get more bamboo in the future!
