So far my impression of the studio is that everyone are professionals at their craft. They are extremely clean and friendly team. Safety is a top priority. What I like is their mind body app that makes viewing and booking effortless. Membership prices are very affordable and great combinations of types of aerial excercise equipments (eg sling) The downside for me is that the first instructor courses were disorganized and not many get to try everything. felt rushed to briefly do every single one. I come in for my 3rd class and still disorganized despite having only 3 students. All in which have different levels. Level 1 sling class even then is too advanced for me. The instructor just dove right in but i think he forgets that when it comes to students like myself, I have never ever activated or used any muscle movement similar to what they are doing. He said to me you're just overthinking it. Yet the movement isn't understood by me. Even watching, I can't connect my many different movements "just" to do a simple flip into the sling and then have the fabric lay on my pelvis bones, balance and flip legs over. I'm sure this isn't the only way to teach...and I'm gonna look for a place that offers more structured and fluid sessions. Maybe start off with workout routines on The sling then just a "just move your body into any shape" or "just tuck your knees in and JUST bend your arms" then "voila". I won't be paying a drop in cost or even a membership just to hang or have such chaotic class. One minute this and that yet no real idea what those moves are even called. I left 20 minutes early as most moves were really too advanced for me. All I can do I stand in the sling. I'll be buying my own sling and watching videos online it's no different because all sky gym offers is this "watch" and "learn". You grab your own support pad.. They might help "lift you" into position but doesn't help understand how to do It yourself.. Also they do not really look at me when teaching but everyone else. Not really included till I speak up. Maybe it's just my instructor. They should look and make eye contact to EVERY STUDENT. not just one. read more

My friends and I took the beginner class. You get to try a little bit of everything: silks/tails, sling, trapeze, and lyra (hoop). First, you learn how to hang and then you practice going upside down and twirling. We had a great time, it was fun though a little crowded. The facility is a lot smaller than expected and the class size had about five too many people in it. The instructor was approachable and enjoyable. And her assistants were pleasant as well. The only negative is that the facility was extremely musty smelling and took a while to feel comfortable inhaling. Also, there was a ton of hair (much of which appeared to be pet hair) on the mats. I would recommend this facility to others, $19 for an hour first class is a great deal. read more

Sky Yoga is so fun! We do some kind of physical activity as a couple every month and May was yoga in ribbons. A surprise for him, and he loved it too. An hour class/first visit is $19, so right at the cost of the same at most yoga studios. You do sign a waiver but it is absolutely un-scary when you get in the room. Classes are only six people and the instructor was really attentive to the two newbies! I loved that I knew the poses from my hot yoga practice but the challenge was doing them balancing in and on and around a ribbon rope. Definitely a new perspective on my warrior three and hand (and head) stands! Totally fine for beginners like my beloved too. Very fun new activity- taking my stepdaughter next time! read more

I can't say enough good things about Sky Gym. The entire staff there is super welcoming, nice, accommodating, friendly, talented, and passionate. It's a great, clean facility with really high ceilings, and SHOWERS! Plus, they have *lots* of open practice opportunities, which is really nice. If you go and it's difficult or challenging, it's supposed to be! It's a full-body strength workout (that can even get into cardio territory sometimes if you're on the apparatus long enough). I couldn't do *anything* in my first few classes, but after maybe a couple of months, I could do enough to do a very small "performance." Just keep at it. You'll be surprised how quickly you build strength if you commit to at least once a week. Most important, though: have fun. I have actively do 10-12 minutes of yoga before and after a workout to enhance performance and to prevent injuries but lately I've wanted to take yoga to the next level. Especially, after suffering from chronic migraines due to spinal problems, I did some research and discovered Aerial Yoga. Aerial Yoga is exactly what I'm looking for, hanging from the hammocks in different positions allows the spine to decompress while also increasing flexibility and strength. I love that Sky Gym is not far from Atlanta and is easy to find. The facility is great inside and out; From the moment I walked in I was immediately greeted and can tell that everyone there (staff and customers) are friendly. Everyone looked very relaxed and like they are having lots of fun. Sky Gym is such a great and friendly atmosphere to be in. Not to mention parking is free, easy and there are plenty of it when I went on Thursday afternoon. The classrooms have restrooms located inside so you don't even have to leave the room and be face with the outside world once you have entered the state of bliss. I took Aerial Yoga with Amber Monson, she is very patient and professional. When the session started her voice was very gentle and soothing, putting you in a state of relaxation. Her instructions are very clear and simple for anyone to follow, even if you have never done yoga before. The moment we started I felt the weight of the world float away then I felt my muscles engage and finally loosen up at the end of the session. The class size limit is one of my favorite aspects, Amber walked around and assisted each of us as we needed help with more difficult poses. With the guidance of her voice I was able to do my first shoulder stand, it was such an amazing feeling! I felt sore after class but it wasn't until the next morning when I really felt sore. Okay, I waited for almost 4 months before writing the review. Sky Gym is absolutely AWESOME!!! This gym is for people with all type of physical condition and strength, and there are variety of classes for people with different needs and interest. All the instructors and assisting instructors here are knowledgable and friendly, they take the time explain things patiently in detail for everyone who needs assistance, even with the least athletic sport idiot like me... Hahaha. Flight school might look hard in the beginning but with enough practice, everything is possible. I been going to the gym few times a week since March and my strength have improved a lot since then. I am actually looking forward to go to the gym for practices and classes, unlike other gym that I need to drag my feet to it. Working out is fun at the Sky Gym but also challenging. I have trained in aerial silks for many years in nyc and MIami. This is my favorite studio because of the teachers, staff, and lessons. The flow of the classes is easy to understand and allows attendees to learn / master sequences. These can later be out together for a full performance as the training advances to next levels. Beginners are already doing fun sequences and inversions with careful monitoring in their first classes. The organized lessons allow you to learn quickly and move to the next level. Go to Sky Gym. Because who doesn't secretly want to be in the circus?! I have been practicing aerial silks for a little over 2 years now! I have been to a wide variety of studios all around the country. I am proud to call Sky Gym my home gym! Aerial arts are literally for everyone. You don't have to be the strongest or most flexible person to try it! It is such an amazing, gratifying workout. The more you go, the stronger you get. I would 100% recommend this to anyone and everyone. Don't be afraid to try something new! I know it can be intimidating to try something so out-of-the-ordinary but you will feel welcome and safe. Amber, the owner, is very big on safety and makes sure if you are new that you feel secure and work at your level. Everyone who goes there is friendly and will make you feel welcome! I have taken a variety of classes with a variety of teachers here! Kara's silks classes are SO fun, she will keep you laughing and smiling the entire class! Porch's acroyoga will inspire you and make you want to stay for hours longer (unfortunately the class is only an hour but I would love for it to be at least 1.5 hours!) Rain's aerial yoga is relaxing and intimate. And as if Amber's amazing biceps aren't enough motivation to push yourself to get stronger and climb higher, her passion keeps you coming back. The first aerial silks class I took at Sky Gym was in their old location inside Wall Crawlers. Since then they have moved to the most gorgeous space. I attended the Open House at Sky Gym recently and really enjoyed my experience! For COVID-19 precautions, I appreciate that there was a temperature check at the door as well as space to spread out in the activity area (in addition to everyone wearing masks). And the best part of my experience was how enthusiastic and encouraging the staff members were. Doing aerial arts for the first time, I felt some hesitation to do things like go upside down, for example. But every time I tried a new apparatus, the instructors went as slow as I needed, and they patiently explained how to do particular moves in comprehensible steps. When I forgot the sequencing of the steps, I felt really comfortable asking questions or for explanations to be repeated. I learned a lot from these conversations, and I am really grateful for the competent and confident instructors that worked with me so kindly and energetically. They genuinely wanted me to enjoy myself while also doing things safely. I really had a lot of fun! read more

I was not entirely sure at first as I did not see many guys at the gym and was sure that my friends would tease me but once I took my first class I was hooked. I began in January and wasn't able to even do a pull-up; I had let myself go for a while. Thanks to the training of Amber, Kara, and Porch I have been progressing safely and quickly in strength and learning new moves every time I go. The leveling structure is different than many other places which use a much more ad-hoc training method. Instead of just saying here try this they have different difficulty levels to ensure that all their students learn moves within certain strength and skill groupings. This ensures a safe progression for all ages. Stronger people progress more quickly up until a point where strength and technique balance out. It has been four months of pushing myself very hard and I can now climb the silks twenty feet up without using my legs at all. I will say that the clientele is possible even better than the gym by itself as we have become a wonderful acrobatic family. So please come join us and bring a smile. read more

When you look up Sky Gym on the MindBody app, the intro blurb reads, "Welcome to your new obsession!" This is entirely accurate! I started with one Sky Yoga class--they are so popular that more appear on the schedule each week--and when I went back to see how many months I had been doing Sky Yoga before I decided to take the plunge into Sky Dance, I found out it was actually the very next Saturday! Even when I did dance in high school and fell in love with horseback riding in college, I had never found a form of movement I was excited enough about to jump out of bed rather than negotiate with myself *why* I needed to go to some tedious class. It's the first time I even considered doing any sort of cross-training to improve my strength and flexibility. I finally found a passion that let me feel strong, graceful, and--most importantly--positive about my body. It's hard. Building the strength and flexibility required to fly in the air takes patience and persistence. You will learn what it feels like for your grip to give out and to have bruises in places you didn't know could bruise - you know it's a circus party when people are lifting up their shirts to compare bruise patterns! The entire community is unconditionally supportive, so even when I've been out with injuries, I still go watch practices and classes because this is my new family, my crazy circus family! If you're still reading this, don't let the last paragraph scare you off! Please, please don't! Sky Yoga and Intro to Sky Dance are both amazing options! I built up so much arm strength from Sky Yoga alone. Regular yoga makes me dizzy, so having the support of a hammock helped me deepen stretches, achieve poses I'd never gotten on the ground, and generally relax. There's nothing like ending class by floating, weightless, in a cocoon. Plus, Sky Yoga classes are accessible to everyone. Even if you don't think you have the strength or flexibility, Sky Yoga lets you start where you are and build up. I was in Atlanta for a week in March 2014 and decided to give this studio a try. I e-mailed with Amber beforehand, since I have several years of experience, to get instructor permission to take the advanced classes. She was very responsive and welcoming. She was cool with me coming in for practice gave me an appropriate wrist-band, which they use to monitor how high students are allowed to practice on the rig. I got a lot out of her class, which allows drop-ins. Even in her level 3 class, which was reviewing moves that I know well, she had really good ideas about transitions and how to make them more interesting. I liked that she had planned her lesson well and could handle the mix of levels in her class, making it interesting for everyone -- the pacing was very good, with a lot of add-ons for people who could do the basics easily. I also took a class with Marina (level 4?) that had a lot of strong students. She is also very friendly and obviously a very skilled aerialist, so I recommend her, too. They have decent height in the studio -- enough for a triple star. Some of the rigging is a little close together at the top. Since I am tall, I had to select the right rig for the moves all the way at the top, but everyone was friendly and switching wasn't an issue. The studio itself is pretty nice, with a few different spaces. Open practice gets busy (you don't get a dedicated apparatus), but people are friendly about sharing, so I definitely got my workout in. I'm used to warehouse-style studios, so this nice, finished, climate-controlled space is a definite treat! People seem really nice. I would highly recommend Sky Gym if you live in the area for regular classes, or even if you're just visiting Atlanta for a short time. read more

Once again, instead of updating my review for a 4th time, I figured I'd just write a new one. I started with Sky Gym back in September 2011 & it has done nothing but improve my life. I'm stronger, more confident, & tougher physically & mentally than I ever thought I could be. The trainers are all very knowledgeable, skilled, & have their own style. I've worked consistently with Marilyn, McKinley, & Kara. They push you to do your best, whatever that might be. The other students are supportive & welcoming. There's not that same level of competition or judging that I've found in the dance world. Maybe it's because it's such a small community, but there's more of a supportive & helpful spirit than trying to cut each other down. The new studio is absolutely amazing with high ceilings, tons of windows, & 2 rooms for both aerial & circus classes. With the new studio also came new classes. In addition to silks, there's now lyra (aerial hoop), trapeze, contortion, "flow" an improvisational class, acroyoga/acrobalance, & aerial yoga. My favorites so far are contortion, lyra, & acro. Each challenges me in a new way. I can definitely see myself continuing to take those classes & advance in those skills. Acro isn't at a convenient time for me currently, but I like to go whenever I have the opportunity. It requires a very high level of trust in the other students in the class & definitely isn't for the faint of heart. And your quads will definitely be feeling in the next day. There are also more open practice times to work on the new skills. The best part is I know even if I'm having a horrible day, I can go to class or practice & come out feeling like a new woman. I've had some less than wonderful personal issues since I started aerial work & it really helped me get through some of the worst moments. I can't guarantee that will happen for everyone, but I can definitely say you'll get an awesome workout with an amazing group of people who are passionate about what they do. read more

I've really enjoyed taking classes at Sky Gym for several years now (since before they had their own studio). It's fun, a serious workout, and a really unique way to spend an hour. Classes are well-priced and staff is very flexible in terms of cancellations, which is good for me since I have an often hectic schedule. I can't believe more kids don't do their Junior Sky classes! Parents, they'd love it. I'm jealous it wasn't around when I was a kid. I do wish they had more weekend and daytime classes; I don't go to the evenings ones because OMG RUSH HOUR near 400. Don't get discouraged if you don't have the strength to do much your first class-- you'll build up! Give it a shot. read more

I was so excited to start classes at sky gym. However, when stopping in between POSTED BUSINESS HOURS to inquire about classes I was treated so rudely that I never want to return. The blonde lady with glasses sitting on the couch with her feet propped up completely ignored me. When I struck up a conversation with her she seemed annoyed and put out. I asked a few questions pertaining to classes and gift certificates and she informed me that she "could not help me and they were closed but she forgot to lock the door". She must've noticed the confusion on my face because then she informed me that she did not "work" there she was just a "instructor". Well gee lady I hope I don't get stuck in your class. I'm not trying to be mean but, sometimes it's hard for people to try new things and I wish the atmosphere would've been more welcoming. read more

It's been 2 days and i'm still a little sore. So there's a $10 special going on here through August. The regular price of $25 rivals gym payments. Kara/Kiera, the instructor was super nice and easy to workwith. They are using the space in the wallcrawlers . There were 3 other ladies in the class. I got there 20 minutes late and luckily they were still stretching. We did 4 basic moves and because we were only using one silk we took turns. so a chunk of time was spent waiting. it's a good thing because you get to see others do the move and it's a bad thing because u are paying for the time. There was only 2 silks anyways. The place was pretty much empty so we weren't disturbed by wallclimbers. For $10, i'm glad i did it and will go back to do the class again since i found out I have absolutely no upper body strength. and can't carry my own weight. I got to the airplane though. I stayed after class and took some pictures( posted) of the instructor doing some amazing moves i hope i'll get to do one day. read more

I absolutely loved the classes that I took with Amber. My favorite part of Sky Gym is the fact that you take sequences of classes rather than just joining a class where people are at varying levels. In fact, you actually test to be able to take the next sequence of classes. No worries, though, Sky Gym offers a variety of other classes to help you build strength, stamina, and flexibility as well as learn choreography in the event that you have to repeat a sequence or just totally fall in love with aerial (which you will) and want to take as many as classes as possible! read more

I tried the introduction to sky dance class on ClassPass. It was really difficult and I wasn't particularly good at it, but I still had a really good time and was SO sore the next day! Originally I thought I would enjoy the aerial silks classes but I eventually sampled some of the other ones like Sky Yoga, Partner Balancing, and Sky Fit and actually enjoyed those more! After careful research I finally decided to try aerial silks. I was hurt in a car accident a year ago and want to continue to rehab my core. I have heard from numerous people that aerial work is a great way to strengthen my core. I took my first intro class Saturday. The instructor Amber and assistant Lauren were amazing and really worked with my lack of flexibility. We started with an introduction talk which covered safety amongst other topics. We did some cardio, then stretching, and then experienced working with the silks. It was amazing and didn't hurt my back at all. I can't wait for the next class! Sky Gym has an amazing variety of aerial and cirque arts that you can experience and it is by far the most extensive in all of Atlanta that I have seen. They have silks, lyra, trapeze, chains, and cord to name a few. They also offer acrobalancing, partner yoga, aerial yoga, contortion, and etc. Plus you can participate in showcases and actually perform at events once you reach the higher levels. All of the trainers are professional performers that train and perform across the United States and even abroad. I did extensive research on facilities in the Atlanta area. The thing that I loved the most about Sky Gym was that they have a great new state of the art climate controlled facility that is dedicated purely to Aerial and Cirque Arts. All but one other gym that I checked out were multi-functional and non-specialty facilities. The days of going to the gym and having people on a climbing wall, weight lifting, TRX training, or Cross-Fit training in the same building or room are over! I found out that the trainers at Sky Gym will only teach people to the level that they are certified to train at. There are several locations starting up that have people that haven't been certified to train people higher than a level 1 or level 2 that are trying to train people up to level 3, 4, and higher. I also found out that they are one of the only companies that are a legit company and one of the few that have insurance. I care too much about my health and well being to trust it to some chop shop at a discount rate (and the discount is for a reason and yes I am including those popular buy in the next 4 days at half price sites). - Always ask a gym if they have liability insurance. I know you sign a waiver, but they must do their best to keep us safe. If they hurt you due to lack of experience or training and have no insurance, good luck. - Always ask the trainer what level they are certified to and ask for references. - Always validate that they inspect their equipement. The equipment does fatigue in time and should be inspected and replaced on a regular basis. - Make sure they are an actual company and didn't just open up a little kiosk studio in someone else's gym. - Ask to view a progression test ahead of time so you can verify that they have a legit plan for you. These should be a series of posses and moves that you must achieve before you can move to the next level. You should have to test into the next level and they should document that you have tested out of the previous level. - Last but not least, there is a board of Aerialists that are writing all of the rules for testing, training, and accredidation for Aerial work and if the gym isn't a member of the board, I wouldn't consider them a valid member of the community. This means that your safety isn't a concern to them. This is an incredible art form with the most incredible people. It is highly addictive Please be safe as it can be very dangerous. Amber and Kara (the instructors) are both incredibly talented and are great at breaking the movements down for beginners. I've taken the intro class twice and am planning to start the hammock classes this weekend. The classes are a lot of fun and a great workout too. Although I have not been the strongest person in the classes (by a long shot!) the instructors were really encouraging. The Atlanta location now has several sets of silks available and the wait time is really minimal (two people share one set of silks). I absolutely love the Sky Gym! I never thought that I would look forward to working out, but every time I leave a silks class I'm already ready for another one. I have been going to Sky Gym for silks classes since January and I absolutely love it. Never in a million years did I think I would stick to this but my classes have become my favorite parts of the week. The location is gorgeous, lots of light, super clean, big open airy studio with probably 25' ceilings, plus a smaller yoga studio where they do contortion classes, partner balancing/acro balance, and other smaller classes. They're always updating classes and coming up with new workshops and even better offerings! I mostly take silks and acro, and I absolutely adore both! Silks starts you off low to the ground, working in hammock until you build up the strength to progress on to higher moves, climbs, and working in tails, but even when you're first starting off, the skills they're teaching a fun and gooooorgeous and make you feel totally powerful and awesome and like you're getting ready to go perform with Cirque du Soleil! It's totally fulfilling my childhood dreams of running away and joining the circus! The whole atmosphere of teachers, other students, and assistants is incredibly supportive and fun, and everyone is willing to lend a hand or get you into contact with someone who can if there's something you're struggling on. They're really open to anyone coming in, working with you wherever you are to start with, and helping you get to your personal best, no matter what that is. For those of you who are safety conscious, they've got aluminum 12"x12" box truss, inspect their rigging all the time, replace any silks that are getting old, have 2" gymnastics mats over all the floors, plus big crash mats that they require you to use for any new drops, high moves, all of that. Their silks are rated for over 2200lbs, and they're suuuuuuper good about instilling rules of safety into all of their students, pushing you, but not in an unsafe or overwhelming way like some teachers can, and making sure that all of their trainers are reeeeeally well versed in general safety, spotting, how to work with new students... I started by going to a Trapeze workshop a few months ago that was recommended by a friend and I was amazed by the additional aerial opportunities that Sky Gym had to offer. I soon started taking silk classes and haven't looked back. I cannot say enough good things about the instructors. They are knowledgeable, friendly, and encouraging. From the first moment I walked in the door, they have been extremely welcoming and there are always smiles on their faces. They also make sure that safety and warm-ups are in the front of your mind to ensure you don't get hurt or injured. I would highly recommend Sky Gym to anyone looking for anyone looking for a new type of workout - it works my arms and abs in ways normal gyms can't. Plus, when you get a move that you've been trying for weeks to perfect and you finally nail it - the feeling is awesome - the sense of accomplishment is fantastic! Super fun, great instructors, awesome workout!

I have been looking for a yoga studio that keeps me excited and challenged, and allows me to work with a shoulder injury. SkyGym is the answer to my prayers, with an amazing staff that is positive and encouraging. I love watching all the aerial artists in the silks classes and gives me goals to reach. I am much older than the other students but I never feel intimidated, it's such a positive and fun environment. read more

This is one of the best workouts I have ever had. My muscles and body hurt in places I never knew existed!! On top of that, I am learning a super-fun and interesting art. The classes are small enough that you really get the attention you need while moving at a pace you are comfortable with. If you learn quickly, you move quickly advancing naturally and visa versa. It's a great thing to do with your friends. It's bonding fun and healthy. I LOVE LOVE LOVE it and can't wait until after the holidays when I can go back. read more
