This place was amazing! I came for the Yelp event, Elites Get Coupled, and I couldn't be happier! It was the first time my boyfriend and I have ever taken dance lessons and although we are still not too great at dancing, I think we can do a move or two to try and embarrass ourselves less at the next wedding or party! Dancefx is a not-for-profit so they really rely on and commit to the community. Plus, they are SO AFFORDABLE! They've got a ton of classes and events coming up and they sell clothes there, as well so you can make your tutu and leotard dreams come true. If you've ever even thought about taking a dance lesson this is the place to go. All the instructors were amazing in showing us how to merengue! (Sp?) They teach all ages from 2.5 years and up, so there's no reason to be shy. They even have babysitting events so mom & dad can go out while the little ones get some energy out! read more

Some people are good at dancing, others (like my hubby) are not. Luckily, there's a place where both types can have fun... Enter Dancefx. I'm not going to lie, I was pretty intimidated myself when we attended a Yelp Elite event at this place and our instructor, Emi, told us we would be learning how to do the merengue(I thought that was pie?). Ok, moving on... Emi was super friendly and didn't make any of us feel like we were too stiff to be there (thank God, I saw bullets streaming down hubby's face when we pulled into the parking lot). The event we attended was called Elites Get Coupled, which was appropriate given that it was almost Valentine's Day. Though my guy was totally nervous about this, I'm so glad we went! Emi, along with Lorien, taught us some merengue moves, and it turns out almost anyone can learn to dance. We felt pretty good about our abilities by the end of the event! Lorien brought in her all-girl hip-hop group (I think they're part of the Pin-Up Troupe?), and they were SO COOL... and talented, obviously. I could have watched these ladies perform all day!! Though they may have had me feeling like my new merengue moves were a little lame, at least now I know I have something to work towards... right? One of the best parts about Dancefx is the fact that they're a non-profit and donate to all kinds of local charities that support causes like fighting AIDS, helping the homeless and people with disabilities, and so on. I think it'd be such a thoughtful date idea to bring someone here and learn a couples dance! You get to know each other in a different way and can judge once and for all who's got better moves (I think we all know who won that dance off...wink wink). Had a great time at the drop in class with Kirsten. I am far from a dancer but she said you don't have to be a dancer to attend. She stated her classes were only in certain days but I do not recall it right now. The dance class I attended was kind of a hip hop class. We learn even several line dances. I left class feeling confident that I can person one dance on my own. The participants were new and full of energy. Just come prepared to learn. read more

Even if you think you're a terrible dancer, try Dancefx anyway! You might surprise yourself. I got the chance to take Hip Hop with Alexa & Contemporary with Leah recently. It was so much fun & I absolutely loved them! Both instructors were wonderful; they broke down their choreography so that it was easy enough to follow. For someone (me) who dances like a chopstick, terms like foxtrot, merengue, tango sound very intimidating. But fear not, DanceFX can fix that! Located in a plaza at the intersection of Holcomb Bridge Road and Barnwell Road, DanceFX is a non-profit organization (more on that later) that provides various dance classes - from ballet to ballroom dancing to hip hop, an everything in between. There are two dance studios in the establishment, with a dance outfit store on the side. We were here to attend a Yelp Elite event - Elites Get Coupled. Our instructor was Emi, who gave us an hour long Meringue lesson. Emi was funny and enthusiastic, which takes the anxiety out of us (ok, just me). She was also able to breakdown something that seems complicated and beautiful to about 10 simple moves. At the end of the lesson, she encouraged us to be creative, and incorporate all the moves that we learn into the dance. To my amazement, me and my wife were dancing like pros (OK! that was a stretch....). In all seriousness, we had a blast. As I mentioned, DanceFX is a non-profit organization. Part of its proceeds goes back to the community - to fight human trafficking, support homeless shelters, help battered women...etc. It also provides scholarship for dance education. Got invited by a friend to attend a Femme hip hop beginners class. I finally went!!! The instructor Andria was very patient. I was nervous but I had a lot of fun. The dance routine we worked on made me feel very confident when I was at a recent event and they played the same song. If you are looking for a fun, cardio work out this class is for you. I was so surprised that I was moving, sweating, and working out my whole body for an hour and I didn't realize I was exercising because it was just fun!!! read more
