I don't need to perform anywhere, though I believe Dance 101 offers it, it's more about learning amazing choreo every week and getting both the physical and mental joy. Dance 101 does all of that. There's so SO many options of different dance styles, difficulty level, and instructors who all have their unique ways of teaching. And a huge schedule every day (except Friday). Amazing place, amazing classes, and now that I've moved away... I can't find another place like it. Shout out to contemporary hip hip on Monday nights with Mo! I decided I needed to find the best Salsa teacher and studio in Atlanta and I wasn't going to settle for second best. After trying most of the studios and teachers in Atlanta, I finally found Fuquan. What impressed me most about him I listed below to explain why his classes are different. Fuquan teaches Salsa On 2 vs. Salsa On 1. Now at first, this seems like a trivial difference. What you quickly learn when talking to other students that are a big difference. In reality, if you are starting from the beginning like me, you can only learn one style at a time. Salsa on 2 almost everyone agrees is the more fun and creative dance of the two just because you have more time compared to On 1. Now what Fuquan does expertly teaches the little wrinkles that add style to your drapes, spins, and turns. A lot of these wrinkles will make you look terrific on the dance floor. The other teachers rarely teach you the style components to beginners and only the big moves. The style is the fun part as Salsa is a versatile dance. Now Fuquan knows his stuff. He has a way of explaining taking complicated directions and making them easy to understand. For instance, he takes obtuse concepts like a cross-over lead and makes it accessible and straightforward in a way others can't. I would find a lot of the other teachers would repeat the same instruction over and over again. However, Fuquan will change his guidance when I needed it. This seems like a simple difference, but it's profound when you're starting out. Last, the classes are just more fun. Most of Fuquan's lessons, he is making a ton of jokes which keeps everyone laughing and light. Dancing in his classes feels more natural since his humor takes the edge off of dancing with a complete stranger. He has also been very kind and patient which helps when your first starting out like me. To make a long story short. It's been a blast, and I'm glad I take classes at his studio.

Although I've danced a little bit of salsa and bachata in the past, with the help of Candace and Fuquan, I've been able to improve my foundations, correct bad habits I had picked up, and become a better dancer. They host a dance social called Mambo Mayhem every third Saturday of the month, which includes a class at the beginning, followed by social dancing for the rest of the night which is a great way to complement and practice what you're learning in class. I always look forward to both the classes (especially Afro mambo) and Mambo Mayhem, as well as seeing all the friends I've made here. If you've been thinking about taking classes, just do it! She's kind of quirky and has a vibrant personality. She is a great instructor because she is able to verbalize what body movements to move to help non dancers/those with limited music sense, like my husband, understand the basics. She seems very open to answering questions. She's very knowledgeable. Because of her, I was very happy to sign an additional few classes to learn more about each dance style. D A N C E C L A S S In our first 20 min class we learned the basic steps to: foxtrot, waltz, rumba, and swing. The second class, we learned to change directions and for my husband to turn me, to each of the dances. P R I C E Our Groupon included 2 private (20 mins dance time, scheduled according to your availability), 2 group (open according to their schedule), and 1 party lesson (open according to their schedule) for $25. I found them through yelp and signed up through their website for beginner pole. The website was easy to navigate and helpful with instructions about what to bring for class. The facility was very discrete, almost to the point where I wasn't sure I was in the right place. The Uber driver offered to stay until I could confirm, which I did. VJ's had just moved to a this new location. It's on the smaller side than what I am used to but the main pole room is spacious. There are either no windows or they are covered, which makes the place very dark and sexy. They have you pick a stage name and only use that while you are in class. This adds to the mystique of the experience. The instructor was great, started class with a warm up then taught us some spins and then a sexy choreo. She was professional and fun. Her class was very similar to what I take back home but then I wound up coming back for another class, a chair dance class with tricks and splits. I have never taken a class like that. Again, very positive instructor and fun, sexy choreo. If I am ever back in ATL, I will definitely be dropping in!

The only slight awkwardness came after the class -- it seemed the person who gave us our introduction hadn't been informed about the free lesson arrangement, which made for a brief, uncomfortable exchange as we were leaving. What I like is their mind body app that makes viewing and booking effortless. Membership prices are very affordable and great combinations of types of aerial excercise equipments (eg sling) The downside for me is that the first instructor courses were disorganized and not many get to try everything. felt rushed to briefly do every single one. I come in for my 3rd class and still disorganized despite having only 3 students. All in which have different levels. Level 1 sling class even then is too advanced for me. The instructor just dove right in but i think he forgets that when it comes to students like myself, I have never ever activated or used any muscle movement similar to what they are doing. He said to me you're just overthinking it. Yet the movement isn't understood by me. Even watching, I can't connect my many different movements "just" to do a simple flip into the sling and then have the fabric lay on my pelvis bones, balance and flip legs over. I'm sure this isn't the only way to teach...and I'm gonna look for a place that offers more structured and fluid sessions. Maybe start off with workout routines on The sling then just a "just move your body into any shape" or "just tuck your knees in and JUST bend your arms" then "voila". I won't be paying a drop in cost or even a membership just to hang or have such chaotic class. One minute this and that yet no real idea what those moves are even called. I left 20 minutes early as most moves were really too advanced for me. All I can do I stand in the sling. I'll be buying my own sling and watching videos online it's no different because all sky gym offers is this "watch" and "learn". You grab your own support pad.. They might help "lift you" into position but doesn't help understand how to do It yourself.. Also they do not really look at me when teaching but everyone else. Not really included till I speak up. Maybe it's just my instructor. They should look and make eye contact to EVERY STUDENT. not just one.

I would recommend this facility to others, $19 for an hour first class is a great deal.
