First time going to Skipolini's and honestly, I was under the impression that this was much more of a Olive Garden family friendly restaurant so I was a bit hesitant on how many screaming children there would be... However, to my surprise, it was more sophisticated than that. We were met by the host, who then seated us promptly, however for a Tuesday night, she seated us in a half booth half table and chair seating arrangement after we walked by several open booths. Our waiter was the one to offered to move us elsewhere and get more comfortable. After being reseated and informed that the tables were cut very offkilter, we ordered drinks, an appetizer, entrées and dessert. The bacon wrapped jalapeños were OK, could've been cooked a little differently to boost the wow factor but the real star was the entrees. I ordered the herb roasted chicken, which came with a cucumber tomato salad underneath and topped with their kale pesto, might have been a kitchen accident but I'm not complaining! This is a quaint, family friendly restaurant that will satiate your cravings. Service: Our waitress was kind and answered our questions about the menu with much knowledge. She gave recommendations based on our preferences and always had a warm attitude. Throughout the duration of being at the restaurant, there was never a moment where I felt like I was waiting too long for her to check back in, nor did I feel like the servers pestered too frequently. Ambience: The restaurant made me feel like it was a cross between a sports bar and an Italian restaurant; definitely on the casual side. There are many seating options and---given the observation---they can accommodate extremely large parties! We sat next to a party of 10+. Fare: My partner and I ordered both alfredos: fettucini chicken alfredo, pesto alfredo. While both tasted great, the sauce is on the thin side in case that's a preference of yours. I didn't mind it; in fact, while it was the first time I had a sauce that thin, it was complementary to the entire dish. For note of reference, the waitress said that the sauce is on the "lighter side," which I disagree with since there was an entire pool of it in the pasta plate. Skipolini's is bigger than I had expected and they have large areas for small or large groups. I ordered the Seafood Risotto for lunch. The portion was large. It had a good number of shrimp and salmon but wished there was a little more vegetables rather than the extra risotto. Overall, it was a good meal. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was good, but I wouldn't say there was anything that caught my attention that would make me comeback again. read more

I was actually quite impressed dining here. We came here for a family dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. We ordered calamari and garlic bread as appetizers which both were really delicious. The really enjoyed the crispiness of the calamari and the garlicky cheese on the bread. I ordered the flank steak risotto with a medium cook on the steak. I absolutely loved it. The seasoning on the steak was really flavorful and I really liked that they added asparagus to the risotto. The risotto was also cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the chicken parmigiana and that was also delicious. The chicken was still juicy and the penne pasta was a good balance to it. Service was great. Our waitress did an excellent job attending us. I really liked the open kitchen concept. Skipolini's I don't believe was ever defined as "Italian fine dining", as a matter of fact they identify themselves as "high quality food in a unique, family friendly environment, at affordable prices."I believe they do a phenomenal job at being just that! Their Chicken Piccata, Chicken Marsala, Seafood Risotto and even their Calzone's are absolutely delicious! From our groups opinion of the meal, the Piccata was sautéed in their sauce wonderfully, the Marsala sautéed with mushroom in their wine sauce was enjoyable, delicious--as was the Seafood Risotto. 7 out of 10. That evening I had a Calzone to oversimplify having a "little bit of everything" in terms of carbs, proteins and veggies. The sun-dried tomatoes in that Martinelli were delicious. 7 out of 10. I like the crust on my calzone cooked a bit more well done and buttery. You can't go wrong with any choice of cheesecake or tiramisu, I only wish the crème brûlée was a bit warmer when it was served. I believe what stood out the most was the fast and friendly service of our waitress. The light hearted moments made it overall a tremendous experience. Go check it out for yourself and if you stop in, make sure you other their bacon wrapped jalapeños. Don't be scary. After my Physical Therapy appointment, I wanted to take my friend who drove me to my appointment to a nice lunch. Now, I have to think about where is a good place that is ADA complaint with easy access. My friend suggested Skipolini's and I said "I've never been there" and I love trying a new restaurant that I haven't been to before. We were greeted by the staff to open the door for us, which was super nice and we were seated at a table where they removed chairs to place me. After that we looked at the menu and ordered an appetizer and they had a lovely lunch menu. My friend ordered the Italian Panini, but she ended up getting a different Panini, but she said "it was still good" and I tried the Chicken Parmesan, which was absolutely huge with Penny pasta. We ordered the fried ravioli as the appetizer and it was nice that they gave us four pieces each and it was an even number. I love that. Also the decor of the restaurant was lovely. When you first walk in they have a gelato truck that looks like a bicycle pulling it and it's super cute. I didn't try the gelato though, I'll save that for next time. I did find it very dark in the restaurant and hard to read the menu. I think the lunch special was good value otherwise, I think it could be a lot more expensive if you go at dinner time. Second visit warrants a review. Was last in around a year ago for dinner on a Friday night for a large party. The staff was really friendly and attentive, and everything was family-casual yum. This time it was a trio during early dinner hours, and the service was even quicker, with staff bringing items and checking on the party regularly. We ordered some drinks & appetizers I had the skipolini's old fashioned which is made with Old Forester , it was excellent and Bacon wrapped Jalapeños , they were delicious. Also ordered the Caprese salad, which was very fresh and delicious. Just the right amount. For my main course I had Cajun pasta and it was delicious perfect amount of sauce and it's the right amount of spice. For dessert had the crème brûlée gelato and got it to go. My only drawback on anything was that the gelato did not really taste like crème brûlée at all but it was still good. Ambiance is very chill with low lighting and cool decor . My mom always said if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. It wouldn't be much of a review if I listened to her. Let's start with the young servers standing around laughing and gossiping so loud that the whole restaurant can hear them. I really don't care that some boy had a long term relationship with some girl. Now for the food. Buffalo prawns were supposed to come with spicy ranch, there was none to be found. Couldn't ask our server because he was no where to be found. Chicken piccata was flourery tasting and tasted like frozen chicken. Vegetables under cooked. Pasta overcooked. Everything under seasoned. Chicken Marsala was exactly the same. Mash potatoes were lukewarm at best and asparagus (bamboo shoots) were almost raw. My family decided to try them out for Sunday dinner and the reviews seemed great but it was absolutely insane.. it's definitely not toddler friendly to start the tables are to high for the high chairs the provide. We were seated and waited around 15 minutes before a nice girl asked if we wanted drinks.. she forgot my daughter's drink and then never came back to get our food order... asked everyone around us if they were fine waited another 15 minutes before we decided to leave.. never got to try the food the service was awful I'm not sure if they don't have a set up so servers know who's tables are whos... just not a experience I expect from a place like that. read more

Food was solid, but nothing really stood out as authentic Italian. Nothing bad, just nothing that made me say wow. That said, the gelato was fantastic and full of flavor. Easily the highlight of the meal and worth coming back for on its own. Service was amazing, especially considering it was toward the end of their shift. Everyone was still friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Sorry for showing up so late, but I made sure to leave a good tip because the service really deserved it. Ambiance indoors was a mixed bag. The lighting was low, which was nice, but it was very cold inside and the chairs were uncomfortable. Outdoor seating, however, was much better. The non-profit organization that I am involved with had an appreciation dinner for our volunteers at Skipolini's. This is the third year in a row that we've held the event in their private room by the patio. It was another successful gathering with great food and fantastic and exemplary service. Todd the manager, is extremely helpful throughout the entire process of the catering this event...he helped with with the details planning the menu, the setting up of the private dining room and then provided the most caring and thoughtful management on the night of the event. The guests and planning committee were all pleased with the dinner, the comfortable ambiance and beauty of the room, as well as the attentive and friendly service from Faith, our designated server for the evening. As part of the planning committee for this year event and past events, we'll return again. My friend and I chose to have a girls night and have dinner at Skipolini's. The atmosphere is a little dark but it's comfortable. Our server was very nice and attentive and gave us his recommendations when we asked. We shared an appetizer of calamari. I don't care for thick pieces that are chewy. Came here the other night with some friends. It was kind of slow when we first arrived, but we were there early. Our server was very friendly and checked on us a lot. We got our drinks right away and then she came back to take our order once we were ready. The restaurant itself is nice and open with lots of seating. The chicken piccata was overcooked and my friend didn't finish her plate. The clam chowder was extra hot which was great. The Vettie's pizza (gluten free and lactose free cheese) sounded and looked good from the description, but the cheese wasn't really melted and the toppings kept falling off. We arrived at about 1pm for with about 20 members of the Reno Mustang Car Club after the VC and RENO Veterans Day Parades. We had the private room in the back of the restaurant. The food was so good, my dad ordered a cup of Clam Chowder and Italian Panini, I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Jalapeños and Cajun Pasta, and my SIL ordered Buffalo Wings and Cajun pasta as well. We shared the jalapeños and wings, and by the time our entree's arrived we were pretty full. Pizza, fantastic. My partner is Puerto-Rican Italian from NY and loves it. He says it's the closest thing to NY style in the Reno area. But...don't order a "bowl" size of any soup. Get the cup. The bowl is about $2-3 more than the cup. I ordered the bowl (which is decent size in diameter, but maybe between 1/8"-1/4" deep. Out of curiosity I wiped out our artichoke dip "cup" and poured my "bowl" in after the server confirmed it was the same size "cup" used to serve the soup. So essentially, the bowl is the same amount as the cup. We were told the kitchen manager would be informed "b/c he's the one that orders all our stuff." The server only charged us for a cup, but overall it's a pretty disappointing scam by Skippies considering most of their users food is great. read more

Love this place to unwind at the end of the week. The 80s music was playing again and for the first time, we sat at the bar top to enjoy some March Madness. We started with the Calamari appetizer. I was so hungry though, I forgot to take a picture. You'll just have to trust me on this one. The Calamari tasted fresh and was wonderfully crunchy on the outside. It came with two dipping sauces that were both really good! For dinner tonight I went with a House Salad and Clam Chowder. I don't know why I thought this was gonna be a light dinner because it filled me up as much as a full protein and pasta plate. The Salad was very fresh and the Clam Chowder was creamy and very tasty. We were attending a rehearsal dinner in their beautiful banquet room. They had gone above and beyond to make the room feel comfortable. Their service staff were spot on all evening! Cocktails, sodas, water were never empty... very attentive but not overbearing. The food was served buffet style with an amazing Caesar salad, Spaghetti Polpete and Alfredo Chicken. We've been here twice in as many weeks. The restaurant is warm and welcoming, if not a little dark. The wait stuff seems to be always hurried and not particularly focused on your experience, more worried about just getting their job done. Perhaps a bi-product of under staffing. On one visit I had the Shrimp Scampi with shredded Zucchini. While a simple dish, I was surprised how good it was. On our most recent visit, I opted for the Mahi Mahi, but changed the Kale salad for that shredded zucchini. The fish looked perfect but I was so disappointed that it was just dry. The Pesto sauces added flavor and couldn't save the dry fish. A sold restaurant but could definitely be better. read more

My previous review was a two and I simply did not care for the food after visiting their two times. That was quite some time ago. We decided to try try again and we're pleasantly surprised. We decided to have a pizza made with thin crust and very light sauce which some pizza places seem to have trouble doing, but they did it perfectly. Skipolini's is a good choice for decent Italian. It's not going to knock your socks off but it's fairly well priced and maybe a step above other casual Italian chain restaurants. Quick to be greeted and seated. I always love coming to Skips-and usually sit in the bar. Tonight we opted for a booth in the dining room. The wine offerings are good for both glass and bottle service. One of my favorite appetizers is is bacon wrapped jalapeños-an they did not disappoint. Very solid recent visit. The Mrs., youngest and I were in Reno for the weekend. Looking for a late meal after a heavy lunch at Toucan Charlie's buffet. Stopped in about 9 pm and ordered a medium combo pizza and a calamari appetizer. As others have noted, a medium is 14" and more than enough to feed three unless you are very hungry. The calamari was good, not great. It was rings only. Wish there were some tentacles included. The included sauces perked everything up. The pizza was the highlight. Great crust and a good level of toppings. The crust was slightly crispy throughout, even in the center of the slice. Service was good with quick drink refills. No complaints there. Skipolini's saved our night in the best way. After a movie we planned BJs, but--plot twist-- staff shortage + 30+ minute wait we couldn't resist... So we strolled down the street, a new plan in sight, walked into Skipolini's and it felt just right. We came as a crew: my parents, my wife, two little daughters (aka tiny joys of my life). Service was stellar--so friendly, so fast, the kind of welcome that makes you want to last. My wife and I went lasagna (comfort-food bliss), I added meatballs--couldn't let that chance miss. I sipped an Old Fashioned, smooth and bold, while my dad got pizza (classic, gold). Mom chose a chicken dish, plated just right, and every bite made the table feel bright. For the kids? Mac and cheese, pepperoni too-- and the best part: they made their own pie through and through! Sauce and toppings, little hands in their zone, then it baked up perfect--kid-pride fully grown. We arrived Friday night and was seated right away. We ordered pizza, salad, drinks. salad arrived fine and timely. Server was friendly. But then the pizza arrived completely wrong. We had it sent back to be remade. The server showed up and proved to us that he placed the order properly. So, we waited another 10 or 15 minutes for another pizza to be made. No apology, nothing. What the heck? Why is there no management? How does a restaurant screw up an order and then offer no apology of any sort. Does anybody care in the restaurant business anymore. It was good, but I think it needed a little more garlic and maybe some salt " in their defense it was very close to what you would get in Italy". But I would say go with the pizza. The service was great. The ambience was good. It was a little loud, but it was a Friday night and this is the day before Valentine's Day so it's to be expected.
