Fish & chips comes with your choice of two sides, french fries and coleslaw.

We came early last night to sit at the bar and drink some local Baltimore beer, notably Dundalk Calling made by the Key Brewing Company which is, of course, located in...Dundalk. I had a new item on the menu, the Rocko Tacos made from backend Rock Fish with a delicious mango, corn, and red onion salsa with a sour cream & wasabi sauce on tops-- these are Really Good! The husband had the fish and chips. And yes, we both ate fish on a Friday but no, we are not Catholic. We were just feeling fishy.

For a Friday night the atmosphere was pretty laid back. The food took a little longer than we expected given it wasn't a busy night. Nonetheless, the food was hot when it arrived and delicious! The only downer was they didn't have any crabs.

We sat at the bar and the bartender was very friendly and attentive. The food and atmosphere was great.

I tried this place looking on a humble looking for a good seafood spot for a shrimp basket for lunch. I got to the spot as soon as it opened, sat at the bar and ordered my food. I ordered a side of hush puppies with my meal for an additional $1.99 which wasn't bad at all. My food came out fast, it was good, and seasoned well. To me my fries were a tad bit cooked to hard and I think the shrimp could have been bigger for the price of $16, I wonder what the jumbo shrimp looks like. I'll give it another try another day maybe a different dish.

Extra large crabs

We called ahead for 2 dozen extra large crabs. The crabs were delicious! Perfectly cooked and great seasoning. The service was great too. Our waiter was very attentive and personable. The drinks were strong and came out fast. Price was as expected for extra large crabs. I can definitely see myself coming back

Skipjack's is one of those places that I will miss if I ever move away. Back before COVID-19 became our reality, it was not unusual to find us dining there at least once a week, if not more. As carryout is currently our only option, it is super important that we patronize these mom-n-pop businesses now more than ever. And don't forget to tip, and tip well! Skipjack's is doing a heck of a job keeping business flowing during this difficult time. They have a table in the doorway to maintain safe distance along w hand sanitizer. I also noticed they are selling rolls of toilet paper for $.75 if you are in a bind, along w other market items listed on a chalkboard wall. The food is great, our favorites are the crab cakes, grilled salmon (the lemon butter sauce is sublime) and the snow crab legs. If corn is available when you go, get it. It's grown locally (like 5 mins away) and is always sweet and delicious. I'm partial to the big bracelet-like onion rings and their lightly dressed coleslaw, and their newest side dish of sweet and spicy Brussels sprouts is terrific. Give them a call to place your carry out order. They are working w a limited menu and not all items are available every day. And did I mention to make sure you tip well?

Crabs

Came back home to Baltimore to visit and was craving some crabs. My friend took me here to indulge and I was highly satisfied. We ordered a dozen of the jumbo crabs which was $100 plus. I guess I've been away from Baltimore for too long because I hear that's the norm price. But I digress, the crabs were very very meaty and just perfect. The waiter was attentive and nice. I will definitely come back when I'm in town for the crabs. When I did live in Baltimore I would always pass this restaurant but never once did I stop in. I'm mad I waited this long.

Well what can I say about this place... It is tucked away on the side of the road off of Belair Rd near the exit of the highway. The parking lot is not easy to pull up on or park on. There are no directions as to where to find the entrance. Had to walk all the way around to the other side and had figjt my way through a cloud of smokers to get inside. Once inside, we were greeted by the nicest young ladies, and were taken to our seats. At first it seemed very small being the other side was probably occupied by a large party, but I would've preferred to have been on that side due to the cold draft we had to sit through during our dinner. We had the nicest server who went above and beyond the call of duty. After we glanced through each menu, I asked our server about the crabs, but after checking with the kitchen, they only had XL and Jumbo crabs left which were over $90 a dozen. When it came to ordering our drinks, most of the ones that I wanted to try they longer hador had the ingredients to make it so I settled for a peach Sangria which was served in a regular glass and not a wine glass. It appeared to be some wine mixed with a peach liqueur. So I decided to sample the cream of crab, which our server obliged and after sampling the soup, it was just ok. We ordered a bowl so we could share. Once it was served, the consistency was hard not to point out that the thickening was not mixed but overall it was still ok. We each ordered some type of seafood dish. I ordered the Skipjack pot and my hubby had the seafood platter with fish, scallops, shrimp and 2 sides- mashed potatoes and green beans, which he picked. The food was not that great, the scallops tasted gummy and rubbery, the green beans were just as bad which was cooked in bacon and the had no flavor. The crab pot was ok too. Overly seasoned with overcooked corn which was probably frozen and recooked. Before I could eat I asked our server for a bib, he said they don't have any, but he he said let me what I can do. Now that is service! This young tall man came back with a thick plastic bib which is as long as a typical bib, wrapped it around my neck for me. He deserves 5 STARS! I gave 3 to be kind, but what made it hard to even give it beyond 3 stars was the restroom. There are only two stalls and when you go inside it is hard to use the restroom since the toilet and the door are that close together. You are practically hitting the door with either your body or your head. Now I have been to Europe and in Amsterdam the bathrooms are small but at least you can maneuver around. Ladies goodluck if you have to pee! At least we tried this place, but there's no way we will return.

Crabs!!!

Skip Jacks is one of my favorite places to get crabs! They have never disappointed me on the crabs, NEVER! not even once! I have been going here for years. Not sure why I never made a review, but here it is! I rarely order food off the menu if I do it would be the Buffalo wings or salad. Best addition before the order of crabs. Yesterday I called for crabs they took my name and number and told me they would call me with availability at 6 and I made reservations for 7. I never received a phone call, so I just went. When I got there the hostess stated she tried calling me multiple times with no answer but she saved a dozen of med and xl for me to chose from just in case! I am not sure why I didn't receive the call however I was very delighted to hear she kept my reservation and didn't cancel because I've been craving crabs. They were good and meaty of course! See you soon for sure!

There is however a dress code which comes as a surprise given it's not a super fancy restaurant imo. Granted I have never seen anyone come dressed short of nice and presentable so I'm unsure how strict they are about it. Food wise, we got calamari for the table and this time I got the crab imperial. I was skeptical because I always get the crab cakes and I was unsure how I would like it given how heavy it sounded but it was delicious! I have to say I preferred it over the crab cakes 1) price point 2) quantity of lump crab meat 3) enjoyable throughout as it was not dry so it paired nicely with the sides.

We got there around 4:30pm and was seated immediately. Our server Koya explained our options and took our order right away. We both got a seafood boil with snow crabs legs, shrimp, corn, potatoes, and boiled eggs. She got mussels with her boil and I opted to get extra shrimp and add broccoli instead of the mussels. She got the mild lemon pepper flavor and I got the mild garlic butter. Everything came out nice and hot and seasoned well. My goddaughter said the mussels were a bit on the salty side but everything else was good! It was a slow crowd so it was a chill vibe which I appreciated. Koya checked on us regularly and answered any questions that we had. They had the college basketball games (March Madness) on the TV's which added to the experience. It's BYOB which I will keep in mind for future visits as I plan to definitely return:)

I will patron this establishment again. I feel the management was not prepared for the magnitude of business in which they received on this day. There wasn't a lot of staff to handle the heavy workload of customers. When I walked in I was told 30 mins wait time in which I was seated right around that time frame. However there were a lot of angry customers because of the disorganization of the establishment. My waiter "Princess" was amazing! She was over worked but maintained her composure and attentiveness. The atmosphere was starting to read a little ghetto and very disorganized. There was only 2-3 waiters on such a busy day and the management was the host as he greeted customers , answered a busy phone line , took care of pick up orders and seat patrons. Where he messed up, was tryint to be several people at one time. He needed help badly, as other people were being seated before others that were waiting longer, ect. My food did not have a long wait time after i placed my order and the flavors and quality of the food was sooooo good !! Another tip, they are BYOB(bring your own bottle) so if you want a drink you can bring it in with you. I thought that was cool, but me personally when I go to restaurants and eat inside, I like ordering drinks at the bar. They have a bar area but no alcohol there. Maybe the goal is to open a bar but they need a liquor store license? (Idk). All in all, I would not probably eat in again, but I will come back and get a to go order because as I said the food itself was amazing!

He didn't finish it and gave the rest to me. By that time, the shrimp and Cajun fries were cold- AND STILL DELICIOUS! I ate the whole thing and promised myself that I would make a visit to get my own basket. Just a few days later, I did what I said and visited Juicy King. It's in a convenient location in the Putty Hill Plaza. It is housed in the former Peking House restaurant. I made a call to put my order in. The woman over the phone told me that it would be ten minutes. When I arrived, it was ready for me. The meal comes with two sauces, cocktail & tartar sauce, along with salt, pepper and ketchup. When I took a bite of the catfish, words couldn't describe how crispy and delicious this fish was. So light and flavorful! The shrimp were as tasty as the first time, even more so that I ate them hot. The fries were perfectly seasoned. So, so perfect. They give you perfect portions, as well! This is definitely my favorite thing on the menu. I turned my sister and mom onto them and they both agreed on how awesome the fish and shrimp box was! Now for my third trip, I had a taste for hibachi and remembered that Juicy King had a hibachi menu. I decided upon the shrimp, chicken and steak. I believe it was about 30 dollars. It was pretty good BUT not as good as another restaurant (that I won't name out of respect), that makes a similar dish. However, it wasn't bad, and the ingredients were fresh. The restaurant isn't fancy, but it is clean and nice enough to sit down for lunch or dinner. I'm getting hungry thinking about their fish and shrimp right now! You will not be sorry. Highly recommended!
