Fantastic crabs and food. Its been my go to for years and never disappoints. I always get the beer battered onion rings with my crabs.

I have been getting my crabs from Chris's for years. I have no idea why but the crabs I received mother's Day were extremely salty. I called the store and she tried to assure me that they do not use table salt and I tried to assure her that I know the difference between rock salt and table salt since I have been getting my credits from them for years. I can't speak to the crabs, but we ordered sides and cream of crab soup from here and everything was inedible. It's very apparent that everything is store bought and kept frozen and microwaved upon ordering. The cream of crab soup was spoiled, and had turned into a gelatin like substance. The sizes of the crabs fits in the worthy price range of my lint filled pockets. I am very dissatisfied with my recent experience at this restaurant, as not only did I receive the wrong items with my order, but I also discovered a bug in my food; when I contacted the restaurant to report the issue and requested a reasonable accommodation considering I live 45 minutes away, I was told I could only come back to exchange the incorrect item while my concern about the bug was completely disregarded, my offer to provide photo proof was refused, and the cashier made no effort to listen, apologize, or provide any form of solution--showing a complete lack of professionalism, customer service, and awareness of how serious a food safety issue this is, ultimately leaving me feeling dismissed, disrespected, and possibly discriminated against. read more

We live down the street and this is our go to place for hot crab dip and cream of crab soup. We've tried making them at home and they're never as good as Chris'. The lady who takes the orders (I'm embarrassed I forgot her name!) is always so happy and friendly. I called in my order as soon as they opened. The person whom answered the phone was very polite. She asked what time I would like to pick the crabs up. I said 3:40pm. I arrived at exactly 3:40pm and the crabs were ready. I also decided to get an uncooked crab dip. I forgot to take photo of the dip. It came with a sub roll for dipping. The crabs were delicious and meaty. I didn't mind paying !88.00 for the dozen. The crab dip was delicious as well. I can't wait to return and try other items. read more

The crab legs were bomb! Heavily seasoned and butter came with the crabs. I was disappointed in the steamed shrimp because they were over cooked. So over cooked where I could barely peel off the shell :( The staff were friendly. I would come back for crabs only. read more

This place does not look like anything special, in fact it looks like the last place you would ever consider getting seafood. But, the crabs here are great. The jumbos we got were heavy and full of meat. And they were steamed and seasoned perfectly. This place is great if you are going to have crabs at your house - no use paying for a fancy dining room you aren't going to use. I am guessing any negative reviews are related to the other food. I haven't tried the other food but am skeptical, probably better to stick to the crabs. As far as takeout crabs go though, this place is great. read more

Shrimp salad wrap used to be a goto meal, but with a smaller portion size and removal of fries from the menu item that cost 16 just a worse deal. I would have paid $4 more for the same thing I ordered last month, instead I just have a worse meal. read more

Found this spot on Yelp while we were at the Harbor. Based on reviews, my husband decided to get some crabs on the way home for his dinner. $60 for a dozen (although he got a baker's dozen of 13)! They were pretty large and he enjoyed them. Would definitely go back on our next visit. read more

My husband and I decided we wanted some crabs. We've been here before and the crabs where great. However this last time we called in our order for pick-up, they where terrible. 5 stars for whole crabs, delicious and well seasoned (and cheap, comparatively.) This will not be for all people, as you need to crack your own crab, but if you're into it, it's REALLY good stuff. The sides (crab cake and I forget what sandwich) paled in comparison. 2.5 stars there. No ambiance, it's only take out and you get giant paper rolls to put your crabs on (it's messy stuff.) Good crabs. They never seem to let me down - My mom swears by Chris's and they are usually good. The last time I visited they were not the 'best' or biggest I've ever had from them, but they certainly weren't the worst I've ever had either. Usually their crab cakes are delish and the last time I went they were so the opposite I didn't want to finish it (ended up going to Double T diner after to get one, which is far more consistent in flavor). But their shrimp salad sandwich is good. No problems there. I never order it (mom does) and every time I eat about half....don't know why I won't just order one of my own. Chris Seafood does not have a problem with taking your money; however, they flip flop when it comes to their crabs. You can go there on day and get good crabs and then visit on another day and the crabs are horrible. How is it that you pay $68.00 or $78.00 for a dozen of crabs and when you arrive home there are at least 4 crabs out of the dozen that are hollow. The owner of Chris Seafood is nice; however, she can become pretty ignored when you complain about the crabs. Do not leave the store without checking your crabs first. Just be mindful that you may or may not get good quality crabs when purchasing from Chris Seafood. Paying $68.00 for a dozen of crabs you expect quality fresh crabs and none of them should be hollowed. As long as they get your money, what do they care! Like I said, you may or may not get quality crabs from Chris Seafood. I plan to just stop patronizing Chris Seafood all together. read more

I live down the street from Chris's but never went inside until yesterday. It just looked like a divey carryout, and I have plenty of walkable good food options near my house. Well yesterday I was smacked in the face by the delicious smell of steamed crabs as I was walking my dog after work. I popped in and they had decent size females at $28 / dozen. I picked up a half dozen and was very pleasantly surprised. The crabs were heavy, meat was so sweet, and I really liked their spice blend. I'm not used to having females, so I'm not sure if that attributed to the sweetness, but I liked it alot. Granted, I may have been biased bc these were my 1st crabs of the season. But either way, I'm excited to know I have decent crabs less than a block from home. read more

I just ordered crabs from Chris's for the first time in maybe ten years (I moved away for a while). WOW! These were excellent crabs, the best I've had in quite some time. Every single crab was heavy, fresh, and full of mustard! I was hesitant because there weren't many recent reviews but I'm so glad I took the chance! Having crabs delivered was amazing- was totally set up and the crabs were delivered right on time!!! Life pro tip: don't order through grub hub. Since moving to Baltimore, I definitely can dig the crab/oyster culture. Summer is crab season and so every gets in as much as they can. I have a roof deck, something that is so prevalent in this city. It is nice to take out some steamed crabs spread them out on some old newspapers with some cold beers in a bucket and stare at the harbor. But back to Chris's. Its location is great. Steamed crab take out which does not require you to either driving to a dicey neighborhood or further away to Essex. And the price is comparable to those places. The grading system of crabs does not follow your average Baltimore restaurant. Instead of medium, large, and jumbo, they come in centimeters 38cm, 48cm, 58cm, 68cm. Not that it is much different but it behooves you to be well versed before calling in your order. Your order comes in a large brown paper bag, fragrant of old bay and rock salt. My only concern is that the crabs are often way overcooked. Maybe it is the journey it takes in the paper bag, but takeout steamers at other locations that were further away came out better. read more

I lived a few blocks away from Chris' for nearly 15 years, so they saw quite a bit of business from me. Not for the sandwiches. Not for the fried stuff. For the CRABS!! If you're a crab eater and live within a 15 mi. radius, this should be on your speed dial! Yes, it's a carry-out. Wear your slippers and robe if you want, they don't care. Secondly, they have some of the best steamed crabs I've ever eaten! (Sorry, but was the other reviewer sober or even in the place?) The things I love about Chris': - Their spice mix! It's just different enough, but not so much it's a shock to your "old Bay" system. - The people there are funny, nice, and genuine Bawlmer; and I mean that in the most complimentary way! - You order a doz. you're probably gonna find 13 or 14 crabs in your bag. They know that every now and then you get a dud. Be nice and don't expect it! - After crab season is "officially" over, Chris' still delivers some of the best crabs around. In fact, the best ones I've ever eaten (sorry, Bill's in Essex!) were bought in Oct. They still do business will local crabbers in areas not over-fished during the regular season. Big, meaty, grandaddy crabs! So, I can't speak for the "other" stuff they serve, but the crabs... truly makes me regret leaving the 'hood! I always stop by when I'm back. Call ahead for prices, since they vary wildly during the season, and reserve your crabs early in the day. They'll have them steaming hot for you when you pick them up! read more

This was my second and last time at this crab house. The first time I brought crabs I took them back because they all were black and not edible. When I took them back the lady at the front was so nasty!!! She was cokking, answerjng the phone and taking cash with no gloves. YUK!!! Today all the good crab houses were close and what a disappointment I only order a half dozen crabs and they were mushy, like they were recooked and sold to order...I am so disappointed with this business, and do not recommend it for food or crabs!!!!! read more

Baltimorean born & bred so I am a crab connoisseur (in my own mind). My price rating on high for the crabs (I have not had the sub or other food items on the menu). The establishment is not its moniker thats for sure but what the facility lacks in chic charm it makes for in Delicious crustaceans. mmmm mmmmm The crabs are take out only (they usually only sell males) are heavy, meaty, hot and yummy (much like myself) but they are pricey (again like myself) however well worth it the extra large crabs are about $80 or so a dozen and its down from there to $60, $50 & $40 for smediums. Make a day of it with some beer, butter, corn and buddies! This is a CASH ONLY business, however they do have an ATM conveniently on site. Parking is also really bad as the business is situated within a residential neighborhood, prepare to walk. read more
