Sonny was able to come to our residence and make major changes to existing electrical work to prepare for a solar install. We then asked him to help us with the electrical in a new build to residence and the work was done complete with updates along the way and recommendations of things to think through. Then I added an additional project of wiring my house for data with a small network closet. Sonny has been super responsive to any questions concerns or plan changes to the existing work. The quality of work is great, the ease of working with Sonny is excellent, and he's now my go to for any electrical needs. Sonny also makes sure to take care of the work area and surroundings and cleaning up after the job. I would highly recommend Sonny. read more

SJ Rios Electric - Dining Area - Electricians Near Me

We had a lighting problem, a fluorescent fixture that was misbehaving. Sonny responded promptly to our request for help. He came, he saw, he fixed, and he also identified another issue we had with a circuit-breaker panel that is dangerous, as fitted originally to our 1950s-built home. He was efficient and not expensive. I would recommend him highly to anyone in the area with an electrical problem. We will ask him to replace our panel in the near future (hopefully before the house burns down). read more

Two of the canned lights in my kitchen weren't working. I called Sonny and he was able to not only come over that same day, he was able to replace the lights I had with LED's. He explained the issue with the current light system, he gave me a couple of options, which I appreciated. The lights look great, they made a big difference in the kitchen. I was use SJ Rios Electric again. read more

I've used Sonny Rios two times , for 3 different issues. All three issues had intermittent (ghost like) electrical issues that needed investigation. We didn't know if it was major or minor. Sonny came in and figured it out, fixed and tested all 3 issues. My bill was very fair. A dishonest person could have gotten me for thousands more!! My home is a money pit that will unfortunately need more SJ Rios electrical services. Its nice to know I have an honest Electrician. read more

May be I got a bad lemon. Looking at yelp reviews, I called this company for estimate. I have fairly medium project of home remodel, not small odd job kind. He was willing to come quick for estimate. But I was quite disappointed to note that he charges for his estimate ! I really wonder how other Yelp reviewers got around this. read more

We recently had Sonny install a new Panasonic light / vent in our bathroom. His quote was $100.00 less then two other Electricians, and was able to install it the next morning. The other Electricians were booked for two months. We are very happy with his work. read more

I called SJ Rios Electric (they were referred by our neighbor) because we moved into a home where some of the light switches seemed to do absolutely nothing. Not sure how the damn building passed city inspection but something was terribly wrong. In addition, some of our lights would randomly flicker or just go out without explanation. Changing the bulbs didn't work. Then sometimes the lights would randomly come back on. Ridiculous! Sonny came out and inspected the problem. He gave us a reasonable quote and said that he could get the job done the following week because he was working on a large project he was under a deadline to finish, and asked us if this was acceptable to us. Since we had already lived with the electrical irritation for months, we figured a week isn't going to make much of a difference. Sonny was very professional and did the job in one day. He didn't even leave a mess! How's that for awesome service?! Most contractors leave a pile or more of garbage and dust behind. He cleaned everything up, gave us tips on how to save energy and was very efficient at repairing our wiring and now everything works great! We will be calling on Sonny again to help us plan out part of a renovation we plan on doing in the coming months. I highly recommend Sonny and SJ Rios Electric! read more

We are smack dab in the middle of having a new roof installed... and this morning at 7am we spoke with the guys putting a new roof on our home (since it was raining, it was a urgent call) ...seems that there was a light fixture in the way of a sun tunnel we were hoping to have them install. The roofers couldn't move it, and said we'd need a licensed electrician. Where would we find an electrician so quickly??? My husband searched "electrician" in on our community bulletin board. He found Sonny and called him a few minutes before 8am I'm happy to say Sonny just finished a GREAT job at our home. He arrived at 9:30am as promised, moved the light, and a few switches that were in wonky places, even re-installed a ceiling fan that was not installed correctly. Sonny is absolutely great! We're even going to have him look at rewiring the whole house! I don't think you could go wrong with this guy! We HIGHLY recommend Sonny. read more

My dishwasher was fried, and there was no power after replacing the dishwasher. Called Sonny, and he came on time. He quickly figured out the problem and fixed. I was so impressed with his service, I scheduled with him to replace the breaker panel. He came on time. The job is very professionally done, and he cleaned up really nice. His price is very reasonable . He will be my future electric guy, and I will definitely recommend him. read more

I chose Sonny because of the positive reviews concerning his reasonable prices, availability, and friendly attitude. We had an emergency and Sonny was able to help put my mind at ease, and did his best to come ASAP. Fast response time & reasonable pricing. Sonny was able to assess our electrical issues quickly and efficiently. He was on time and called when he was on his way. He even I had a switch that only needed to be release and Sonny was honest with me and did not charge me extra. I am a Manager of a Financial Institution and my members ask me all the time, "do you know of someone that can etc.???" unless I myself have used your service, I would never refer you. That being said, Sonny's installation was prompt and clean. I will definitely be using him for a few more jobs around the house and I would not have a problem of referring Sonny to people I now. read more

My first experience with Electrician, and it was such a joy to work with Sonny!! He showed his professional in many ways: - Came right on time - My issue is a bit complicated and he knows exactly what to do during the troubleshooting, quickly fixed the problem and cleaned up everything after the job was done - Very reasonable price compare to other Electricians in the area - I made a mistake when i put the panel back that caused another issue, and he came back after working hours and and fixed that for FREE!! I wish I could give 6 stars! read more

My hero! Couldn't be happier. Just moved into an old craftsmen that needed some TLC, new outlets, light fixtures, fans, dedicated lines to basement sump pump, etc. including new HDMI outlets customized for my 50" flat screen TV installed on a wall unit over the fireplace. Considering the existing wires is a mix of old and new, there was Lots to do! Received recommendation and contact info from a coworker and called SJ Rios Electric. Sonny came right over and was able to provide a detailed estimate, and schedule the work within a few days. On the schedule date, Sonny was on time and went right to work (throughout the house, under the house!) and finished EVERYTHING in just a few hours. Quality of work is amazing, got exactly what I wanted. We are very very happy, and will def be calling SJ Rios Electric for all my needs! Well done Sonny, well done. read more

I needed to check my electric panel because of an expansion of a home flight simulator project. I called SJ Rios Electric and Sonny came to my house and clearly explained to me my options in plain English so I could make an informed decision. He provided a detailed explanation of what he would be doing to add a new circuit to my existing panel and avoid messing with my current electric design. I really felt he was willing to embrace the most cost-effective action rather than the most costly one. I really appreciate honesty and what I consider a fair cost for the entire project. He showed up on time and even played with my crazy dog LOL. I'll be a loyal customer of SJ Rios Electric from now on. read more

We were moving to a new home during the holidays and Sonny was the only person who was available for the ceiling fan installation. Even though our home is pre-wired and structurally sound for ceiling fans, the prices everybody else quoted was exorbitant. They were charging 5 times the cost of my fan!!!! Sonny was clear & competitive on pricing, was available, is reachable by phone or email and got the job done fast. read more

The level of service required to succeed in the Yelp economy is unfairly high, but Sonny clears the bar no sweat. We called him during the Super Bowl, and he called us right back when the game was over. He was willing to come over on Sunday evening. He was prompt and extremely professional. His prices are competitive. When it turned out the motherboard on the heater had fritzed out, he had a contact who could also come the same day and bring a new part. read more

Sonny is freakin' awesome! I got several quotes for the job, and he was one of the lowest. I went with him because he sounded like a personable guy over the phone. He came out to look at the job and kept his word on the price. (We were changing out the Zinsko panel and moving the microwave to a dedicated circuit) He then found a whole other panel under our staircase that I had no idea about, and saved me even more money by putting the microwave on that panel instead! I wish he did more than just electrical, because I would definitely continue to use Sonny for handy work around the house! read more

If you're looking for a truly professional electrician, look no further. SJ Rios is the place to call: 408-292-6798. I had a whole snarl of wires in my 1930's house, a real tangle of electrical mayhem that had mounted up over the years and throughout many different ownerships. The old breaker box was at the breaking point. Seriously. Sonny put order to the mess. I can sleep better at night now knowing that the work has been done properly. He knows what he's doing, is neat 'n clean (that counts for his work as well) and is very efficient. Why would I use anyone else?!! read more

Sonny preformed an excellent job on our electrical upgrade! Sonny's expertise and recommendations help me to understand the requirements and the scope of the project of upgrading my home's electrical system from the mid 40's into modern times without any issues! Sonny came by on the same day I called him and did a great job. When putting up some new outdoor lights, I noticed I had a strange wiring configuration, Sonny came by, quickly diagnosed the issue, explained it to me and how I could upgrade it in the future, and fixed it in about 30 mins. His price quote was also lower than the other two companies I called. I highly recommend Sonny and SJ Rios Electric. Down to earth, friendly, efficient and reasonable. Thanks Sonny! read more

We Used Rios Electric on my rental in Willow Glen. Sonny was on time and professional. His pricing was very fair and I will be sure to tell my friends and family about this company. Thank you Sonny for your work. read more

Mr. Rios has just completed two days of work on our place. Day 1 was removing old ceiling fan/light assemblies that had been installed - not up to code - by the previous owner. Mr. Rios got us on track with new installs that are up to code. Day 2 was replacing a 1960s breaker box with something that now meets our current demands with room to grow, as needed. Mr. Rios has been our go-to guy for electrical work for several years and has been instrumental in correcting many issues left by a poor DIY former owner. We look forward to many pleasant years in the house. read more

As we know, finding the right person to do a job can be challenging. But how fortunate my family and I found Sonny Rios. My brother found Sonny and hired him to do some major work on our family owned commercial property. My brother was so happy with the completed project and raved about Sonny's professionalism and work. Our rental property (a duplex) had a series of issues. One of them being electrical, so I called Sonny. He responded quickly, accessed the situation and informed me what needed to be done. The electrical panels needed to be changed. Sonny was so patient and supportive as we were dealing with unfavorable tenants at the time. Communication with Sonny is very good. Recently, I contacted Sonny about some concerns at my Mom's house. He helped resolved the issues. Sonny was so attentive, kind and respectful. My Mom was extremely happy and grateful. Sonny is not only knowledgeable, efficient and reliable but honest! A peace of mind is what Sonny provides. I would highly recommend Sonny Rios of SJ Rios Electric to my family and friends! read more

Just moved into a house last month in San Jose. We had everything gutted and renovated but when we plugged in our computers, everything would shut off. We couldn't figure out why, but we called in some electricians to give us bids on resolving the issue. Sonny gave us a really fair bid. Apparently the electrical box we had was so old it couldn't support the amount of electricity we needed to use. We had to have a larger, updated- to-current-code, electrical box installed. Sonny finished the job in one day and was very professional from start to finish. He was also nice to our household pets (3 dogs and a fat cat) and they didn't mind him after the initial meeting. We even had the hidden nanny cameras on and were watching him (we've come across too many service providers that haven't been nice to the dogs). No problem whatsoever. We also had my brother come check the work - he was a licensed commercial electrician but went into another field - Sonny's work passed his inspection too. Our computers and other electronic devices are all working simultaneously now and this is an enormous relief because my husband and I both work from home via computer/internet. Without hesitation, I recommend Sonny and SJ Rios Electric for electrical work. read more

The most knowledgeable and efficient electrician in the area. Sonny came by my house and gave me an estimate on the same day I called. He showed up the next day on time then did a super clean and fast job on replacing all my breakers and circuit panel. I work for a general contractor so I see electrical work done on the daily basis. Sonny is among the best. I can't be happier. We will call him back for future work. Thank you. read more

Sonny came highly recommended by many of my neighbors in the Midtown / Rose Garden part of San Jose, and he's local to the area so it was an easy choice to enlist his help for our upgrades. Of four electricians called, he was also the first to return my call, and one of the others had done work at our place previously! I can say now, after completing this project, working with him has been a pleasure. Sonny is prompt to return calls, straight up about the work, his approach to it, and the expected cost. Most importantly, his work is well done and on schedule. We appreciated his ability to fit us into his schedule, his familiarity with older home wiring (knob and tube for our 1940's home), plus his thorough knowledge of the building/electric code, City of San Jose requirements, and what it takes to upgrade our system safely and correctly. When setting up the job, we laid out a clear scope of work which made it easier for him to price. He helped us finalize our specifications so we knew exactly what we were going to get and would be happy with the result: --Laundry room: hang new ceiling light fixture (we provided fixture) --Bathroom: ventilation fan/light: Cut out and install in ceiling over shower; New GFCI and switch. New home run to panel; duct as necessary to attic vent. (we provided vent fan and duct.) --Bedrooms: New electrical outlet and dedicated run to panel in each room. Adjust depressed outlet in northwest bedroom closest to bathroom. --Living room: Fix 3-way outlet with new switch (we provided replacement switch). Install new outlet in corner opposite front door with new home run to panel. --In old exterior panel box remove old doorbell transformer. Install GFCI outlet to support front yard sprinkler control. --Backyard: New run to panel for new exterior GFCI outlet and light on exterior wall; install 3-way light switch underneath fixture and in laundry room at existing switch. (we provided light fixture.) He also spotted a few unsafe conditions left by a previous electrician that could have resulted in electric problems or even a fire, and he helped correct those issues immediately. (Specifically a 40 amp breaker was installed by the other guys on a 30 amp wire, which could have resulted in burning wire long before a breaker tripped, the whole reason circuit breakers exist in the first place!) I give Sonny my highest recommendation and will hire him again -- there's a lot of work to do around this place. read more

Called Sonny for some electrical work in my garage. Was easy to reach him on the phone, he got a good description form me of what was needed, and best of all, was able to come in the very next day, as it was kind of time sensitive for me to get the work done. Was a bit pricey than I would have liked, but, I didn't shop around much due to the time crunch. He was right on time, completed the work well and cleaned up the place after completion! Docking one star just for the price. One of my friends who got a similar work done paid much less than what I did, but I have absolutely no complaints about the work done. Very happy with the output. read more

A contractor who knows his stuff. I called Sonny on a Saturday and promptly returned my call. I wanted to wait until the workweek began again on Monday, so I decided to wait to return his call. I phoned him during my recess (I'm a teacher so it's either make these calls during recess or lunch) and Sonny picked right up. I described the issue and Sonny outlined a couple scenarios and gave a quick quote. He was busy during the day (which was OK with me being that I was teaching), so I asked him if he could come at 4:30PM that same day. No problem. Sonny showed up with a smile, clean professional truck and a firm handshake. Showed him the issue and he went to work. Within 15 minutes he diagnosed the problem and addressed it and was on his way again. Before he left he pointed out some issues that we should address at a future time. Sonny is a quality electrician. read more

Stellar. Sonny is professional, prompt, courteous, direct, and dependable. He did a fantastic job wiring up an outdoor outlet on my rental, a place that the owner cares a lot about, and did it before Christmas so I could string up lights for my kids. Sonny has completed old fixture removal and new fixture installation for me, including fans and chandeliers. He's easy to contact, professional, and does great work. Whoohoo! As good as it gets! Called Sonny on Friday Memorial Day weekend after the power in my bedroom shorted out. He arrived on time and completed the work in about an hour. He explained what he was doing and even showed me the burnt wires. Price was very reasonable considering the work he did and that it was on a holiday weekend. Very friendly and funny couldn't ask for more. Definitely recommend SJ Rios Electric. read more

Sonny was awesome - efficient, friendly and affordable. We called Sonny to troubleshoot and fix a couple of circuits in our house, including the one to the garage door opener. I called him in the morning and he agreed to come by the same afternoon. He arrived on time, checked around efficiently, and identified the problem - short at termination cap. He installed a new connector and it was good to go. Since there was some time left in the 2 hour service all, he replaced a door bell switch for us as well. read more

I got Sonny's name / Company (Rios Electric) off a neighborhood bulletin board. Many many members praised Sonny for his work and professionalism, and I can see why. There's 'always' been a problem with mold in our Master Bath. The last time we had it cleaned the representative said the molds grow so quickly as there is no moving air. Water just sits there for a long time after each use. He recommended an Air Fan in the ceiling, I thought that would be a great solution. So the next time Rios Electric was named - I knew it was time for me to call. Sonny returned my call promptly and - things were set to go. From our conversation he generally knew what to expect. Upon arrival I received a reasonable bid, and then we had a discussion about which fan unit / Brand to install. He recommended the Panasonic as it was high end quality and a very low operational 'hum'. He was right. We can hardly hear it running when we're in bed. With this great experience we needed / used Sonny's services again. This time to deal with a problem of a fuse continually 'blowing' in hot weather - when the freezer was working extra hard. Wow, this solution was broad and extensive... When our house was built they put a ton of receptacles on the same circuit. Get this, the middle bathroom, utility room and 'two' garage outlets. No wonder it kept blowing - we had a FREEZER, water softener, in constant use, a washer & dryer occasionally in use - but the big thing was when PLUGGING IN MY WIFE's PRIUS - what a power drain. It was obvious we needed another circuit breaker BUT with no more slots available - we had to go with a new / bigger breaker panel.- no decision needed. Sonny masterfully installed this and did a good job of covering up the cut Sheetrock. Also, during the process Sonny noticed a cord going from one overhead light to the other with only an extension thick cord. He said that had a high level of fire danger. Well he fixed that too. Well since we were taking care of electrical needs, I mentioned I wanted another dedicated outlet in the garage - this one in front of the other side of the garage - just in case another electric car was in the future. :) In summary, I can't say enough about my pleasure and the results provided by Sonny / Rios Electric. I will definitely use Rios Electric in the future for any of my electrical needs read more

My first time calling for an Electrician. I called a few other Electricians before Sonny picked up and said he's available to be at my house within 2 hours. It's on. Sonny and Matt showed up within the estimated 2 hours. Awesome! I had an intermittent issue in a section of my house that the power would go out. I explained some history of using a space heater there and how the breaker tripped before. Sonny and Matt went to work and quickly identified the "cooked" wire in the circuit breaker closet. I was extremely happy they were able to hit the nail on the head. They quickly changed the cables and my house was back in good order. Thanks! read more
