    Onions and Chili Oil

There's a LOT of room for potential here for Sizzling Saigon. Due to the heavy rain and cold weather in San Diego, pho sounded comforting and warm. Sizzling Saigon opened back in December 2025 in Santee, so it is understandable that they are still trying to figure out their kinks. First, I found the service to be very two faced. You know the saying about if the service is bad, then the food is amazing. I think that only applies to restaurants who have been around for a while. If your restaurant just opened up, wouldn't you want to leave a good lasting impression on your guests? Upon walking in, we were happily greeted by the server. There were only two other parties in the restaurant, already seated and tended to. The rest of the tables were empty, and we were given the option to seat ourselves. I appreciated that flexibility. Once seated, we were handed menus and given water. I was pleasantly surprised by all the options. It ranged from pho to Thai specialties like drunken noodles. I love to enjoy tripe and brisket with my pho, but it was not on the menu. Everything looked and sounded delicious, but I was here for one thing. The Sizzling Saigon Special Pho. The pho served in a hot stone bowl that trended all over my social media feed. So that's what I ordered. My partner got the rare steak pho. Not sure what mood swing our server was going through, but the happy, jolly person who greeted us at the front changed into a non verbal, passive aggressive person in the span of five minutes. We asked for onions and chili oil on the side, and his demeanor made it seem like it was such a big ask. Not even a yes, just a nod. We said thank you multiple times and received no response in return. Not a big deal, but it threw us off. Service is really important and this felt dismissive. What made it more noticeable was seeing him interact with other tables in a much friendlier way. Toward the end of our meal, he suddenly became cheerful again. It just felt inconsistent and off putting. Now the food is good, but unfortunately not good enough to make it stand out from its competitors in the area. Sizzling Saigon Special Pho: I felt like this was more of a gimmick or Instagram bait item. I will say their portions are respectable for the price. For a little over $20, you get a generous portion of wide rice noodles, rare steak, well done steak, and a decently large beef rib. As for the meatball, you only get half of one. It's okay though because the portion of rare steak and well done steak make up for it. Now why a gimmick? The hot stone bowl really just adds to the presentation. It did not add anything to the flavor, and instead made the broth a scalding, tongue burning temperature for a good 15 minutes. Unless you can handle broth that hot, be prepared to sit and watch everyone else enjoy their meal while you wait. I honestly wish they offered this pho without the sizzling bowl. I will say the broth itself is clean and rich. The herbs were fresh, and the portion overall was fair. If you love extra flavor, order onions and chili oil on the side. Hopefully your onions don't come with a side of attitude. The portions are fair, the broth is good, and the concept is interesting. However, the inconsistent service and the gimmicky nature of the hot stone bowl make it harder to fully recommend over more established pho spots. With some improvements in consistency and focusing more on execution over presentation, this place could easily become a strong contender in the area.

Tonight we tested this new restaurant out in Santee. Wow what a great place! The atmosphere was inviting, comfortable, and had subtle music playing. Very clean and welcoming. Our server Peter was amazing. Quick, friendly, and very attentive. All of our food was 5/5. Grilled shrimp spring rolls- great flavor, fresh, good peanut sauce. Sizzling Saigon special pho- my husband loved this. Side of thicker noodles with rare meat to add. White meat chicken pho- clean, tasty, great portion of solid white chicken meat. Loved the freshness of the basil, limes, jalapeños, and bean sprouts. Small side of fried rice- nice tasty treat. We will 100% be back. Thank you!

4/3/2026 - went there with a friend and we ordered a beef plate and a bowl of soup. Both were delicious. Filling and priced right. Check out photos. Clean inside and not that busy today. Our first time there.

My 3rd time visiting now and it continues to be my fav! The meat is very yummy as well as the broth. The thai tea is sooo good & has a prominent taste, not watered down. Service is good. Overall vibe is enjoyable and calm for a warm meal!

Was excited to visit this highly reviewed Vietnamese restaurant in town. The staff were very passionate about the food, had lots of good recommendations, and created a welcoming environment. The grilled chicken spring rolls were superb, well seasoned and moist chicken with fresh veggies. The pho was also good but tasted similar to the other shops around town. Would definitely return and try some of their sizzling platters, those looked amazing passing by our table!

I enjoyed a nice bowl of Bun Ga Nuong Cha Gio or vermicelli with grilled chicken and crispy egg rolls at this Vietnamese eatery. $14.89 plus tax. First of all, the Bun looked beautiful. The colors look great and I'm please the way all the ingredients are nicely arranged in the bowl. They did an exceptional job on this bowl. The chicken was well prepared. It well seasoned and tender. It picked up a little smokiness from the grills as well. The egg rolls were very crispy and came with a good amount of veggies and ground pork inside. The only thing that I thought they should work on was the vermicelli noodles. They came hot and should have been cold or not warmer than room temperature. All the veggies that accompanied the meal were great and so was their house fish sauce. They offered hot sauce which went great with the bun. I do wish however if they would also offer the Vietnamese chili sauce as well or tương ớt. The service was friendly enough. They offer a lot of good inside seating.

I came last night for dinner during their last hour with my family, and even though it was pretty busy with only one server, Peter did an amazing job. He was so kind, attentive, and genuinely apologetic for any delays, but honestly, the service never felt lacking. He handled everything really well on his own, which we appreciated. The food was just as great as always. I had the Lemongrass Tofu Vermicelli Bowl, super tasty and full of flavor. This is my third time coming here, and they never disappoint. The portions are generous and everything is consistently good. Definitely recommend this spot and shoutout to Peter for making our experience even better!

Really good pho. Ordered the rare steak pho and it was full of noodles and a lot of meat. Ordered to go and food was still hot by the time I got home. Service was good but they need one more person to help with waiting on tables/taking orders. Felt bad for the guy by himself. I like the atmosphere at this place too

3.5 rounded up to 4 I'm in from out of town and had a pho craving, so I found myself here after discovering my first choice is closed on Wednesdays. I arrived around noon and was the only customer for a while. I was greeted, quickly seated, and placed my order within a few minutes of arriving. Spring rolls: I can't pinpoint it but something about these tasted off. The peanut sauce was good, but I would skip these next time. Pho: A-okay. Not the best I've had nor the worst. I could have used a little more flavor in the broth. Value wise, I appreciated that it wasn't a giant bowl which I can usually never finish, and I thought the price was fair. Ambiance: The restaurant was squeaky clean, though I wished desperately to hear something other than what sounded like a royalty-free instrumental music playlist. Service was quick and friendly, and easy parking right in front.

ordered the beef with vegetables and rice (shown in the first photo). The rice was absolutely perfect flavorful and well-cooked. The vegetables were also tasty and fresh. However, the beef itself had a strange taste. I'm not sure if it came from a particular sauce or seasoning, but if that were the case, I'd expect the vegetables to have the same flavor which they didn't. Because of that odd taste, I ended up eating only the vegetables (as you can see in the next photo). That's just my personal experience. The second dish, which included a mix of grilled meats and an egg, was very good the meat there tasted great. I'd rate that one 4 out of 5. The staff, servers, and cooks were all extremely kind and polite. The restaurant was clean, the service was fast and friendly, and there's plenty of parking. Overall, I personally wouldn't go back, but it's still a nice spot with wonderful people.

The service was great! They were prompt and attentive. We ordered the House Special Broken Rice. It came with 2 large pieces of grilled pork chops that were deliciously marinated and juicy with perfect grill marks, best pork chops I've had in San Diego! There were also pieces of deep fried pork belly with the sautéed green onions, iykyk! It comes with a tasty soup bowl, which is definitely their pho broth, so I will definitely come back to try their pho. The portions are generous and the food was superb.

We were seated along the wall which had booth seating, which I prefer. For drinks I ordered a Thai tea no boba and the hubs a coke. We order the following items for dinner: Appetizers - - Crispy egg rolls - with pork (4 pieces) - served with veggies and fish sauce, these were tasty. - Salt pepper chicken wings - (8 pieces) they were a tad over fried but flavor was good. - Spring rolls - (2 pieces) with pork and shrimp, we ordered these Togo. Hubs enjoyed these for a late evening snack. Entrees - - Combination fried rice - chicken, shrimp and cha siu (Chinese bbq pork) I liked the flavoring of the fried rice - it was not bland, but I did mix in a tiny bit of hoisin sauce. - Pho rare steak - overloaded with green onions and cilantro. We always order pho but I really wasn't feeling it that evening, so it was all the hubs. If you love tons of green onions and cilantro, get it! The broth had a really strong flavoring of the cilantro. Overall dinner was fairly good. Seemed like there were regular customers that visited often. Staff were super nice and friendly. Parking lot was not packed at all. If in the area, I'd visit again. 2026: 7
