We came here for lunch on a Friday. It looks like the place just opened about a month or so ago so fairly new. It had good yelp reviews so we decided to try it. The restaurant was fairly busy during the lunch hour and we noticed a lot of to go orders being picked up as well. One of the servers sat us immediately and was very friendly and humble. It took a bit of time but another server finally came by and took our order. We ordered the Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls to start, which were good but nothing that sets it apart from other restaurants. I got the Beef Steak Cubes Fried Rice based on a recommendation from our server and my friend got the Sizzling Saigon Special Pho. An order of Fried Rice was brought to me after we finished the Spring Rolls and I thought it was my order even though it didn't look like what the menu described for 'Beef Steak Cubes.' I did not see any beef in it and thought maybe it wasn't my order. I relooked at the menu to see what I ordered and thought OK maybe this is it since it did look like Fried Rice. I started to dig in and so did my friend. It was good but every now and then I would get bits and pieces of what looked like crab shell pieces, which was a little off putting. :0( My friend's pho came shortly after and it looked amazing in the scorching hot stone bowl. The manager brought the pho and warned us several times how hot the bowl was and how his son burned himself on it. The pho had everything under the sun in it including the giant beef rib bone. My friend said the pho and broth was very good. I'm still eating away at my fried rice and then our server comes by and drops off my actual order. I saw beef steak cubes on a sizzling plate and was like 'OK this looks like what I ordered.' He apologized for the mistake on the wrong order and said the initial fried rice I was given was on the house. He said it was meant for his ex-wife that was sitting at the large table on the other side of the restaurant. Hmmm....I'm wondering now if those pesky crab shells were intentionally put in the rice...LOL!! Anyway, the beef steak cubes were good and flavorful but I was already too full from the fried rice that I took a few bites and packed it home. Overall we would come back again. As someone who eats out often, I've never had an experience bad enough to write a review. I came here on Monday and had an amazing experience, which is why I decided to come back again today. Unfortunately, today was completely different. We tried ordering the exact same items we had on Monday, but were told they weren't able to because they "weren't allowed to do that." All we were asking for was grilled meat instead of raw, which they had no problem accommodating just a few days prior. The inconsistency was frustrating, and the explanation didn't make sense. We decided to try the crab rangoons. The server brought them out and ignored us when we tried to speak to them. When we bit into them, the cream cheese inside was completely frozen. When the owner came over, he first said they were "supposed to be frozen like that." I let him know this wasn't my first time having crab rangoons, and then he changed his explanation and said it was just the green onion. After returning our rangoons, we decided to cancel the rest of our order and leave because we were so uncomfortable with how they were treating us after. It's disappointing because our first visit was great, but this experience completely changed our impression. read more

So I decided to be lazy and pick up dinner on my way home from work. Deciding that it had been a minute since visiting Sab-a-Lee (Thai) I knew where to go. Only to discover that since November 1, 2025 this place is now Vietnamese. I'm not a big fan of Vietnamese but it was too late since I was already reviewing the menu (that's how I discovered the change). But I ordered the seafood noodles (sans the fish balls) and shrimp & pork rolls. Price was reasonable and when my order was delivered I was told they replaced the fish balls with imitation crab. This place is the definition of getting the best value for your money, The prices are fair but the portions let alone the amazing taste of the food has made this our shop's go to spot for lunch. The service is fast, friendly and helpful and the interior is comfortable and overall peaceful to sit down and have your lunch. I especially recommend any of the specialty menu items because while prices a little higher, They absolutely bang with flavor. Best part of dining in is the experience. The name is in the food! Never would I have thought that one of the best pho restaurants in San Diego would open in Santee. Ordered the Sizzling Saigon Special Pho which comes with boiling broth, meatballs, and beef rib in a hot stone bowl. Served on the side is generous portions of flat rice noodles, well done streak, and rare steak. The rare steak was much more tender than what is typically served at other pho restaurants. You can tell this establishment takes great pride in serving quality ingredients, appetizing presentation, and friendly service. Pete was my server and he was fantastic. Big shout out to him. I probably go out to get pho 8-10 times a month and I've been to most, if not all. I'll still go to my regular spots as I only visit Santee to see my barber. But I may find myself getting my hair cut more often from now on. This place is truly special. Please change nothing and keep up the good work! Pro tip: If you get the sizzling pho, place small amounts of noodles at a time as you eat. The broth is literally boiling when served and stays very hot the whole meal. I was disappointed to learn that the Thai restaurant previously at this location had closed, but the new spot more than makes up for it. I'm genuinely glad my family and I finally gave it a try--we'll definitely be returning regularly. The broth is incredibly rich, flavorful, and authentic. You can immediately tell they don't dilute it like some other pho shops; they clearly use a generous amount of bones to develop that depth of flavor. So far, we've tried the grilled pork vermicelli plate, the rare steak pho, and an order of egg rolls. They are, without question, some of the best we've ever had. Second time here and I had their house special hot stone pho. I love their fresh thick noodles ( not many places have that in SD) also they were very generous with the proteins.
