Rare steak and brisket Pho - Dec 2025
    Candace C.

Pho that satisfied the craving on a cold evening but prefer the City Heights location much more. Simplified menu here and they have a bar. Inside is clean and service was good when we went. Downside was the pho wasn't as hot as I would've liked and the noodles were all broken up and overcooked. Easy parking in the plaza. Prices are about $13 a bowl which is reasonable. I got the rare steak and brisket, the rare steak wasn't very rare when I got it but overall hit the spot

This place was recommended to us by friends, finally had a chance to try it out. Great prices, good portion size. Some of the sides are over priced (tofu $4). Good portions of bean sprouts, limes, jalapeños and basil (ask for refills as needed). We ordered shrimp and grilled beef spring rolls, rare steak bowl and vegetarian bowl - everything was tasty. Ample free parking, clean dining area, average service. Bathrooms are not as clean as most restaurants. Good experience overall, we will be back. This is currently our favorite pho spot in the area.

Grill Grilled Shrimp Pho and spring rolls

The grill shrimp pho was excellent with the grill shrimp on the side. Only thing missing was no vegetables. It was still savory, as I'm usually accustomed to the shrimp being in the pho when served. The spring rolls were also very good. They also gave us an extra serving of their dipping peanut butter sauce. The only negative was taking too long to get seated as they only had two servers with almost a full restaurant. They did however apologize for the wait.

Food is delicious and plenty. Oxtails for soup is humongous. The lychee was yummy and fried rice was great. Server was friendly

if I could leave 0 starts I would We were served raw bread and fried chicken that was clearly undercooked--pink inside and cold near the bone. This isn't a preference issue; it's a food safety problem. When we pointed it out, there was no urgency and no real apology. Even worse, they refused to refund the full order, despite the issue being obvious. They would only refund the single item, even though the entire meal was ruined and we couldn't safely eat anything. Eating out shouldn't feel like a health gamble, and customers shouldn't have to argue for a refund when raw food is served. We won't be back.

Very disappointed of this restaurant. I used to love coming here with my family and enjoy some real pho. I don't know what change but definitely it changed for the worse. The lady that took our order was not very friendly or helpful. The food had a bad taste. The pho noodles had a plastic taste. The orange chicken had artificial over top orange chicken sauce that's taste like artificial flavor, lastly the spring rolls were stale, the pork inside was so dry that I was not able to chew. Please don't waste your money in this place, there are better options in the same area where they do care about their food and their clients.

Most places put shrimp in their egg rolls, but I am severely allergic to shellfish. Here I can have egg rolls with chicken or tofu! So happy. We drive across town so I can be safe.

    Is the pho broth vegetarian?

Yes... I'm not positive about their current menu, but I believe they have at least 4 different broths. These set Pho Ca Dao apart. V5 is the Pho and I get V1 V+tofu spring rolls. 4.5 in my book.

What could I eat here that doesn't have onions in it?

Hi Don! Anything! Onions are just garnishments. Please make sure you let the servers know that you don’t want onions. :)

Can someone please post the menu?

The service was excellent the moment we walked in and continued all the way until we left. The entire floor staff were friendly, attentive, and incredibly hardworking--especially as the dinner rush picked up. You could really see them hustling, but they never missed a beat. The food was just as impressive as the service. We started with the shrimp and beef spring rolls with fish sauce, which are always a must for us. For our mains, we ordered a variety of rice platter dishes including grilled shrimp, BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, egg rolls, and a BBQ beef banh mi sandwich--everything was flavorful and satisfying. One thing that really stood out was our waiter, who memorized our entire order without writing anything down--very impressive! I also placed a to-go order for the #99 platter, and everything came out quickly and accurately. We were in and out in under an hour and a half, even during peak dinner time. When the service is exceptional everything else follows! Overall, a fantastic dining experience with great food and exceptional service!!!!

The health and safety board needs to indirect this place. The tables were wiped but you could still see grease remnants from left over food on the table. The lack of sanitary practices gets an " F" rating. It is obvious no one has a food handlers certificate. One plate came out and had to wait over 5 min for next plate to Come out. If you keep your eyes closed and don't watch what they are doing here, you probably think their food is great. We won't ever come here again.

Today, it's one of the most well-known Vietnamese restaurants in the city, and after this visit, I can definitely see why. One of my favorite things about coming here is the location. Even though it's right in Convoy, parking has never been an issue for me. I usually avoid the area because finding a spot can be a headache, but Phuong Trang has a large parking lot that makes stopping by so much easier. I came in for a quick takeout lunch. One thing to know before you go is they don't accept Apple Pay, so make sure to bring a physical card or cash. The staff was incredibly welcoming. They greeted me when I walked in, gave me plenty of time to look over the menu, and never made me feel rushed. That kind of hospitality really stood out. I ordered the Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli and the Shrimp, Pork & Jellyfish Salad. The salad comes with shredded green papaya, celery, cucumber, carrots, shrimp, pork, jellyfish strips, fresh mint, crushed peanuts, and shrimp chips. The salad was refreshing with plenty of shrimp and jellyfish throughout. I especially liked the crunch from the green papaya. My only complaint was that the dressing felt a little one dimensional. I wish it had a little more brightness to bring out the fresh herbs and vegetables. It was still enjoyable, though. The Char-Grilled Beef Vermicelli was my favorite of the two. It came with vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, pickled daikon and carrots, crushed peanuts, plus five grilled beef rolls wrapped around scallions. The beef had a delicious smoky flavor from the grill. The only downside was that the inside of the rolls was a little chewy since it didn't get the same char as the outside. Even so, every bite was packed with flavor, so it wasn't enough to take away from the dish. Between the friendly service, quick turnaround for takeout, and solid food, I can see why Phuong Trang has stayed so popular for all these years. I'd happily come back and keep working my way through their menu.

I looked around the menu and saw #23 - Phở Đặc Biệt (The Special). Of course, I was feeling special that day , so I ordered the small Pho #23. The bowl might have been small, but it was PACKED with meat, noodles, and flavor. Of course, all the sauces were right there on the side so you could make it exactly how you like it. We ordered the 6-piece egg rolls to share, but they were a letdown--smaller than what you typically get at other Vietnamese restaurants and pretty bland (even the kids didn't care for them). The pho was similarly underwhelming, featuring a broth that lacked depth and didn't stand out to the palate. The highlight of the meal was the salt and pepper calamari, which easily stood out as the best dish we tried. That said, at $15, the portion size was on the smaller side. The service is normal and the calamari is tasty, but with the lack of climate control and forgettable mains, I'd probably only ever return just for the calamari. It's an A-ok place overall and quite expensive for small portions.
