This place is great. Those that know, know. They're not open like big box stores, but because of that, you have people working there that will cut things down for you and point you in the right direction. If you are going to be doing anything that will require a sizeable amount of lumber, come here. You'll save a significant amount of money. Even a red cedar 4x4x10' will be $20 less than what you'll get at Menards or Home Depot. And that is just on one piece of wood. Plus, it feels like they take care of their employees as I see some of the same people and this is from shopping here multiple years. Came here to post a great review over a recent purchase, but yeah they fucked that up real quick. First let me say I get it, pandemic, annoying customers, increased cost of building materials, yada yada. Came in to look at their live edge boards. Found one that was going to work, no price on it. Asked them to price it for me. Got a price from an employee on the floor - cool, I'll take it. Need it cut in half for my project and so I can transport it home. They charge $50 to run a chainsaw through it. A little much, but ok whatever. I go to the counter, pay for it and plan to come back and pick it up tomorrow and have them rip it in half then. Cut to 2 hours after I leave, I get a phone call that the board I bought wasn't priced correctly. It was supposed to be $8 more per sq foot or whatever. The board they already sold me that I paid for. I simply explained that I didn't quite understand what they needed from me...then was told I had to come in and pay them more money if I wanted it. So, like, a shakedown??? WTF. So I explain that I guess they need to just give me a refund since I'm not going to pay them more money for the thing I already bought?? So they put me on hold for 10 minutes. Then they come back on and tell me that they will process a refund to my card. JFC and this was my first time there as a customer. I left super happy with what I bought and the great customer service I got while I was there, ready to start my project. Then they decided to call me up and go FUBAR on the whole thing? I've been shopping at Siweks for years and while I love the selection their prices are ridiculously high. I find it considerably cheaper to go on Craigslist and buy hardwood. While I know lumber prices shot up in price because of the pandemic some price gouging is going on. I base that on someone I know who is a hardwood buyer telling me prices he consistently sees. I've also found sheet goods as much as $20 cheaper a sheet at other locations. read more

Have been looking all around town and online for a solid poplar newel post to match the existing 4 3/8 square newels in my house. I called them and an employee named Tim said he would research it for me and call me back. He called back an hour later with a solution that would be a match: combine three 1.5" poplar boards together, which they carry in stock. I arrived minutes before closing on 5/22/2021 and was taken to the boards. I told them what I was doing and they cut three 48" boards. I was in and out in five minutes. Boards are definitely poplar and match the grain and color of my 50-year old newels, which also happen to be glued together. Also appreciate them requiring masks. Will be back. read more

Avoid! Called to see if they had KDAT, told yes. First guy says I need to go to other building. I go stand in that building for 10 minutes until the first guy comes over to help. Tries to sell me KDHT, cuz it's pretty much the same. I call contractor, "nope, need KDAT". NO ONE in the yard knows if they sell it or where it would be or if it is different. I spend 10 minutes googling and reading about the difference. They call Dave 3x, cuz he might know, but he's at the cabin with no reception. Finally I walk the yard alone and find KDAT! I walk all the way out front to tell them and a new guy comes to grab the boards and make the cuts. 2x6x8 is what I was told they had and what I needed. The new guy takes a 2x6x8 and I go to get the other one, but wait, the 2x6x8s in the KDAT rack aren't KDAT. We start looking in other racks labeled KDAT, but the new guy points out that he doesn't trust the labels on the racks... and by the labels on the wood there are NO 2x6x8 KDAT boards... well maybe at the other yard, but not on weekends. What a ridiculous waste of my time because of a disorganized bunch of know nothings! Stay way. read more

I'm a huge fan of Siwek! More often than not, you can find wood work, doors, etc for 30-50% less than Home Depot, Lowe's and Menard's - even more if you are take some of the product that needs a little reconditioning. They have a great selection too - styles you most likely haven't seen before so you can get creative with your projects. Important to note, this is not a big box store and you should not expect employees trolling the aisles ready to help. They generally have 1-2 guys in the lumber warehouse, and they've always been extremely helpful. read more

The only place to go if you want to replace a door or find some wood trim for your house. They can replace your wood door with a new one, exact dimensions and the holes drilled and notches cut out, or find wood to match some obscure wood trim you need to replace in your house. Any sort of wood product for your house, these are the guys to go to. read more

My partner and I couldn't get out of there fast enough. The staff aren't super friendly or helpful, we literally had to chase people down for help. We also couldn't tell who worked there and who was a customer because they don't have name tags or wear anything that distinguishes them from customers. For example, we were told to find 'Mark' or whatever his name was, so we literally had to walk around asking everyone if they were Mark. And just a warning- a majority of the staff are SUPER religious and will tell you to come to their church. I'm not kidding. I don't want to hear about how many people 'gave their lives to Christ that Easter' while you're ringing up the supplies. Sorry- that's just not my thing. BUT to their credit, they do have a LOT of trim and door options. So if you're searching for something the Home Depot doesn't have, this place probably has it. read more

I planned to get a cheap standard size fiberglass door at a big box store, but then I measured the opening and realized I needed a custom size door. I had no clue where to start, but was recommeded to Siwek, and they helped me immensely. They had a nice selection of reasonably priced wood doors too, which they expertly trimmed and hung. Absolutely the worst experience. There is (or was) an ad on craigslist saying that they had used rubber roofing for sale at $0.25 sq ft. It said there were pieces that were not bigger than 10x10ft and had no nail holes. I thought great it would be perfect for my 8x8 shed I was building. Cheaper than roll roofing, recycling is a plus and easy to install. Although it was 15 min more of a drive than my big box store and gas would have made up for the savings over roll roofing I figured this also helps support local businesses which I try to do whenever possible. After arriving at the location and not finding any good quality pieces in their small pile I was told to go to their other lot about a half mile away. Upon arriving Al pointed out where they were. I went there knowing the pieces are heavy and I would carefully unfold and refold each one and that the process would be a little lengthy. After 5 minutes of unfolding about 3 or 4 large chunks many 15x15 and bigger Al walked up and rudely said I wasn't supposed to unfold and inspect them and that I would have to put them back on the stack like I found them. Wow I thought that was rude but gave him the benefit of the doubt cause I figured maybe people frequently come and make a mess and he was just having a bad day so I just told him I was planning on doing just that. I than asked him why the chunks were so large and half of them had tears and holes. He said they didn't and I said I would gladly show him but he wanted to have nothing to do with helping me find a good piece. He than started to leave and as he was walking away said a second time I wasn't supposed to unfold them and inspect them. I followed by saying the only way for a customer to know that is by you telling us upon entering the yard or having a sign up. I also said that doesn't make any sense cause it's a used roofing material and of course I want to inspect it for holes. He than said to just take the large piece he was standing next to, about a 12x15, and said I'll write you up for a 10x10. This was to avoid helping me find a smaller size i'm sure. The yard was not busy at all and I was in nobody's way. Well he disappeared for a few minutes than I look up and see him standing by a truck 25 yards away talking to a guy while both were staring at me. After a few minutes of them staring they both come over and the old guy (who said he was the owner) said I'm not supposed to unfold the folded rubber roofing bundles and inspect them. They were very unhappy that I had 3-4 spread out and was inspecting them for damage. Why? I can only think of 2 reasons. One is they knew they were ripped and had holes and wanted me to buy them with out inspecting them. The other reason is they were afraid I would leave a mess and that Al would have to take all of 5 minutes to clean it up after I left. I'm guessing both reasons are correct. I told the owner that I was building an 8x8 ft shed and responded to the craigslist posting that said you had many chunks not bigger than 10x10 with no holes which didn't seem to be the case. He said people just came and picked the stuff up without inspecting it. I said that wouldn't work for me and seems strange because of course I don't want my roof leaking from a previous nail hole. He just looked at me very irritated and didn't respond. At that point Al who was standing next to him said "Just Go" (telling me to leave the yard) which almost floored me but I wasn't surprised because of his previous attitude and zero interest in helping me and I said "I would be happy to". The owner did nothing to correct Al on his attitude toward a customer or say anything to make my experience better. At about the same time the old guy measured one piece which was 10x11 that was unfolded and had holes and said do you want this one and pointed to Al to write up my receipt order. I responded that I will be taking my business elsewhere. So I started folding and picking up the pieces that were taken down from the pile because I would have had to back over them in order to leave and the 2 guys just glared at me. I said is there any chance you could help me feeling uneasy about them towering over me. Al lets out a disgusted "I guess" (God forbid he does any work) and picks up one while I do the rest. Why did they have a craigslist posting telling people to come get some for roofing or other needs if they didn't appreciate me there trying to buy one? I should have just gone to the big box store to begin with and not tried to help out the little guy. I have no idea how a business can survive with a guy like that running the show and the quality of his help. I will never ever ever think about returning and will go far out of my way to inform people I know to avoid that place. I am still in disbelief on how rude, unfriendly and unhelpful they were to me, a customer willing to spend my hard earned money at their store who drove across town passing by several big box stores to support a local business. read more
