BEWARE!!! Poor customer service. I just purchased an $800 EGO battery operated mower. I charged the battery and started it up but it did not cut. I brought it back to Settergren they took one look at it and said I need to bring it to an approved EGO repair shop. There was no concern or empathy just an attitude of it's now my problem. I asked if I could return it. He just said, "No there's nothing wrong with the mower it was assembled incorrectly". Now I have a new lawnmower I have to wait 2-3 weeks for it to be. l will let all my friends and neighbors know how poorly I as treated. read more

This team is definitely making the best out of these uncertain circumstances. Went to get some paint because Ace is one of the only places where I can get Benjamin Moore brand. While they do not let you go inside, they did curbside service. It was really busy which made it kind of uncomfortable, but that was out of their control. They did a good job moving through the amount of people as fast as they could and did a great job getting my paint without going inside to see what I really wanted. This is an excellent store. They are friendly and knowledgeable. They help me find what I need every time and give me tips on how to do my project. They also have a list of recommendations for area handyman, yard care, Etc. I have used several of the people on this list and had positive experiences with all. read more

Stopped by yesterday because we needed a new rake (BEST RAKE EVER! Ask us why.), and I am SO grateful this place is walking distance from my home. I hope it never leaves. The staff is informative, courteous, and incredibly helpful. Plus they always have a compliment for my toddler and a treat for my dog. I probably spend an average of less than 3 minutes in that store - I walk in, tell someone what I need, they walk me to where exactly where it is, answer any questions I have, walk me to the register, ring me up, and I'm out. Bonus points for never mansplaining or being jerk faces about me being a solo young mom at the hardware store. (Can't even tell you how much crap I get at Home Depot. Now that they're in Linden Hills, it's a closer trek for me! I've visited their store countless times and have always been met with friendliness, helpful staff and a genuine interest in making sure I leave with what I need for the job. There's no judgment if I forget the proper name for a tool or need extra help figuring out what exactly it is that I came for. I was in so often when I was pregnant with my first daughter that I felt compelled to introduce the Settergrens to my baby after she was born. I love this place. It's exactly like that hometown Mom & Pop hardware store that you can never find these days. The staff is beyond accommodating and informative. They can help answer your questions regardless of what you are trying to accomplish! Trust me, sometimes I am just rambling through what I need to do and they help me get the tools to get it done. This place has everything you need to complete tasks around the house and also has an extremely knowledgeable staff to help you get the job done right. I typically go here a couple times a month to pick up supplies for household projects. I am always greeted with a "Hello, how can we help you?" and someone leading me right to the spot where I can find what I am looking for. Additionally, anytime I have had a question I have been able to get a thoughtful and helpful answer from someone on staff. Every time I am need of something that takes a little bit more knowledge, I know to go to Settergren Ace Hardware. Mouse traps, Wasp killer, grass seed, etc. I've been burned at other big box places in the past asking questions and getting the wrong answer, then screwing up a project and heading back to Settergren's. Outstanding service, helpful advice, and a great selection make this my favorite hardware store in the Twin Cities. These guys know the neighborhood and the unique needs of the houses around here. They have everything from basics to unique items. They also have a great selection of accessories for the Big Green Egg as well as other barbecue needs. They are also my go to place for any home repair needs - they have an approved list of handymen for any home project and I have consistently had great luck with all of their recommendations. Excellent service ... I'm pretty useless when it comes unclogging a drain pipe or things like that, but they didn't tease me too much. You wouldn't think it, but some of their items are cheaper than Home Depot. I like to give them my business because they're a local, family-run business. Also, they give out free popcorn. read more

When you walk through the door you will be asked if you need help. They have an extremely knowledgeable staff that will help you find exactly what you need and walk you through any of your projects. It isn't like wandering through a Home Depot trying to find what you need for an hour and never being able to find anyone who knows what they are doing and can help you. I came in looking to change a deadbolt for my uncle who was recently put in a nursing home. The manager was amazing, helped me figure out my options. Opened a product to see if it would work. End of the day I was able to use the hardware I already had, I didn't even buy hardware from him. But I wanted to give a post thanking him for all his help, when I needed it most. Great dog-friendly hardware store. They have a ton of stuff squeezed into a small space and plenty of helpful employees ready to help you find what you need. Great store. Their staff is always super friendly and helpful (even when I'm not!). Also a great destination to bring kids-- free popcorn and they sell ice cream and fun varieties of soda. I like to swing by here for sodas on the way to pick up carryout pizza. They also don't mind dogs, if you want to stop in on your walk. read more
