Dr. Siu is great! My boss goes to him and recommended him to me. Everyone in the office is super sweet. Dr. Siu is funny and is pleasant to talk to. Every time I go in for contacts, I have to try on 3+ different brands over the period of a few weeks because my eyes are dry and sensitive. He's patient and works with me to make sure I get what fits me the best. My office is not far from his, so when my boss needs contacts picked up, someone from Dr. Siu's office will even drop them off to us. So nice! read more

I just started seeing Dr. Siu but my son and daughter also see him for their eye check-ups and prescriptions for contacts and glasses and there are no complaints. So I decided to give him a try since he is close by to wear I exercise. Free street parking is available on the side streets off Lee and Perkins, mostly unlimited. The staff is friendly and I was getting new contacts so it took a couple of visits, starting with the eye exam and then trying out different types of contacts! I've gone here for a few years now and usually everyone is caring, patient, and helpful. My last visit I complained that I had switched back to an old prescription for my glasses because they hurt less. When the doctor came to do my examination I told her the last time I did the exam I couldn't really tell much difference between the options and asked if that could be why my newest prescription was hurting my eyes. As we started to go through the exam she must have been getting conflicting information on the results I was giving. Rather than be impatient and move on she kept re-testing and talking to me through it until she got consistent results. I was refocusing and straining my eyes to try and read all the letters instead of relaxing. She confirmed the previous prescription was too strong and was surprised I could see through them. It's very hard to tell when your glasses are causing eye strain or you're staring at a screen for too long so I was relieved to hear I wasn't crazy and excited that my eyes hadn't degraded to the point where the last half of my day was painful. Your eye exam is an hour but you usually have your glasses for a year so I'm glad she took the extra time to get me the right prescription. Dr. Siu is nice enough and I agree he has a dry sense of humor. I don't think he's that great at his job, unfortunately. I went to him to get a glasses prescription and he told me my eyesight got better. I asked if this was normal - I've been wearing glasses since I was 8 and my prescription has only changed once or twice in these 25 years - and he said it goes up and down. Fair enough - he's the doc. The thing is he gave me a different glasses prescription than my contacts prescription. My eyes had a lot of trouble adjusting between the two things. If you switch back and forth between glasses and contacts you know - having different prescriptions means a lot of headaches and difficulty for your eyes. I also feel his office is not that clean. His front desk staff is nice, but the last time I went there one of his assistants was very nervous and then followed me around while I was trying to browse the frame selection. It made me so annoyed I had to leave. One good thing is that he always has plenty of appointments available, so its easy to get in to see him at the last minute. read more

I wish I had known about this office's dismissive response to complaints about bad prescriptions before I went. I just got bifocals here (I've worn glasses all my life and bifocals for 10 years), and my new "improved" prescription glasses (cost: +$350) require me to read with paper/laptop no further away than 8 inches. If you want to look stupid and feel uncomfortable, read a book 8 inches away from your face. Need to read something that lies flat on a desk, say, furniture assembly instructions or a dress pattern? That's about twelve inches, so TOO BAD. Read on your smartphone? NOT ANYMORE, YOU DON'T. When I brought this up, I got a condescending note about how bifocals work and how I needed a progressive prescription. Question: before progressive prescriptions, could people not read and see with their bifocals or did this office SCREW UP? With my last bifocals, I could, quite easily, so--THEY SCREWED UP. The office is a cramped dump and my vision is more impaired with these glasses than they were before. Sure, there are people who love this place, but before you go, ask yourself: Do you feel lucky? Or will you be out several hundred dollars, too, with a "sorry, not sorry" email from IDGAF Erica and useless new glasses with no offer to fix them? Well, do you? read more

Seen Dr. Siu twice now, last spring to update my prescription/new glasses and more recently to get fitted for contacts. I must say he has grown on me. He and I connected easily. The man has a wicked sense of humor. I like morning appointments....he tends to struggle with promptness. Somehow this all balances out. My first visit was pretty typical, got an eye exam---even tested for glaucoma. Erica (assistant/receptionist/Ms. Fabulous) was super helpful finding the perfect Ray-Bans to accentuate my face. **he also discovered that my allergies were causing my eye discomfort, after Kaiser simply suggested natural eye drops, Dr. S gave me the down low on over the counter allergy drops** Fast forward to this year and my decision to get contacts. It was quite a process. Initially I was annoyed that it took so long, but I can appreciate Dr. Siu wanting to insure that I had the perfect fit for my astigmatism plagued eyes. I tried a few brands before settling on my current prescription and love the results that I have due to this awesome eye doc! I first went to Dr. Siu last fall and Yelped his practice beforehand. I found him to be friendly, smart, with a funny dry-wit, and informative which was important since I hadn't had an optometry exam in almost 10 years! Dr. Siu also gave some great suggestions about what eyeglasses looked best on my face shape--this Doc should write for ELLE or Marie Claire! The Valentinos were fabulous, but I wasn't sold (I worked in fashion for years) so I found a Gucci frame elsewhere and he ordered them for me. Easy breezy. I went back recently to get contacts and again the experience was 100%. It took a few visits to get the lenses just right because we tried a few brands and powers. I have dry eyes too so we had to find something that would be comfortable for me for at least 12 hours (I work outside in the elements). I wasn't annoyed about coming back, just relieved that he was so THOROUGH. Erica, his assistant is also very kind and helpful. They now accept Care Credit in addition to many visioncare insurances. The end result is that I still love my glasses and I have super moist contacts---Accuvue Moist----that last from sun-up to sun-down. Dr. Siu gave me a bonus pack of lenses and some great lenses re-wetting solution called BioTrue--for free! Thank you, Dr. Siu! Folks, get your eyes checked at Dr. Siu's. As nice as I thought Dr. Siu was, I felt I had to come back and revise my appraisal of my visit there. About 10 months after my original appointment, I went to another eyeglass supplier to fill the prescription he had given me. When I got the glasses, however, it turned out that they were WAY off for my eyes and actually gave me a massive headache every time I put them on. In the end, I had to fork out DOUBLE the money to get my eyes retested (turns out my vision hadn't really changed at all since my old prescription) and a second pair of glasses made. Worse, when I called the office to point out their error, the front desk staff was extremely rude and hung up on me. Later, as I thought about it more, I started thinking about my earlier experience in a different light. Perhaps the multiple visits I had to make to the office to adjust my contact prescription weren't signs of Dr. Siu's kindness, but rather of his incompetence? Bottom line: if you have the time and money to go back multiple times, this is your guy. Either way, make sure you test any prescription he gives you right away because the office won't take any responsibility for their mistake later. read more

Worst experience as a new patient... ever! Paid $2 for parking, went upstairs to the office, stood at the counter for a few minutes, no receptionist so I sat down & waited. Browsed through their brochures and magazines. Ten minutes rolled by, still no acknowledgement. Short, Asian lady came in through another door, saw me, and started chatting with someone else. Couldn't tell if it was a patient or coworker, couldn't see through the fish tank. Few more minutes went by & the "receptionist/Medical Assistant" called "May" looking at me. I said, "Mary". Gave me registration form and left. Ok, filled it out & left it on the counter. Another patient comes in and gets brought in immediately. I'm already 15 minutes behind my appt time & I have a 1-hr meter to worry about. Again, few more minutes pass by. Frustrated, irritated, and neglected I grabbed my registration form and dodged. The only reason that Dr. Siu's is my optometrist is because I have Medical and Medicare! That is the only reason. I disagree with him being a kind person as the two people reviewed below. No he is not!!!!!!! At least not to me. I have had two appointments with him for eye exam, contact lens fitting last year and this year and both were unpleasant and uncomfortable. I have had better eye doctors in the past. This visit he wasn't too harsh on me when I could not tell the difference between which Z looked better. Because honestly there gets to be a point were one looks blurry in a different way than the other. Last year, I had a very difficult time discriminating between "this" or "that" that I had him repeat it several times and I could tell Dr. Siu is NOT a patient guy. Today, I was able to discriminate better between "this" and "that" but still there were times I had to say "can you repeat that?".... Lastly, I want to know would make an anology to someone that is sarcastic and psycho to say the least. What am I talking about? I don't dump my contact solution every use in the sink. But I do dump and change the solution every now and then. But do you know bacteria grows there? Of course I know that do you think I am a dunce???? So, what kind of doctor says to a patient "Like when you clean your hands you don't save the water to wash your hands again (first I NEVED said I saved the solution)...so that's why you don't save the solution water, but dump in every time you change your contacts." That REALLY pissed me off... Another point, I have been to eye doctors since I was in High School, I know what tests they do to you. I know there is a test where they put a drop of something in your eyes to dilate your eyes (so they can see clearly the eye's internal structure) and then you have to wear shades, I know there is a test where they blow air in your eye (I know now it is to test glaucoma). So, here I am expecting Dr. Siu to put the dilating drop in my eye and instead he pokes this thing in my eye and it STINGS! I said "what was that???" He said,"You had it before it is to test glaucoma"....I did not!!!!! The test I had last year was the puff of air, where NOTHING comes in contact with my eye...NOTHING probes my eye for pressure, the air does it all. Anyway, either he is just being nasty, or sarcastic, or he's demented. And I thought I had a bad memory but he does because I have never in my life had Applanation Tonometry to test for glucoma. Enuff said....my eye vision improved in my left eye. Did he screw up? I thing he screwed up last year. Because, at least 4 years ago my contact lenses were the same for both eyes. read more

LOVE THEM! He's great and really knowledgeable. I've been wearing the wrong contacts, he diagnosed astigmatism no one else did. The assistant ALWAYS remembers my name and is really helpful with insurance juggling. I moved to daily contacts and got glasses. The selection of frames is awesome. I've gone to Dr Siu for about 10 years now. He's always been very friendly and patient during my exams. Erica the office manager is a pleasure to deal with. The only time I've really been disappointed with Dr. Siu is when he suggested moving to a new type of daily use contacts, citing that the expense was similar to the biweekly since there is no need to buy solution. After going home and doing the math myself, this was clearly wrong (the daily contacts were at least twice the price). Not sure if this was an honest mistake or that he gets incentives from CIBA Vision. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt... he's never been pushy. Just ask your own questions about brands and prices. Speaking of prices, I wish his were as low as chain optometrists for contacts. I always just order the minimum number with him and buy the remainder online. His glasses are pricey too, but in my experience you get what you pay for. My previous pair from Dr. Siu has lasted 8 year. Compare that to my most recent Costco pair with poor optics that started to fall apart after a year. Signed up just to post this. Had an extremely uncomfortable appointment with him this morning. Last year when I got my prescription I ordered my contacts online instead of with him, not out of disrespect, but because ordering online saves me between $75-$100. He clearly still held a grudge with me since he was rude from the moment he walked in. At first I gave him the benefit of the doubt and assumed he was cranky in the morning. Then slowly it began to dawn on me what was going on. The eye test was very uncomfortable as he was rude and impatient when I was not sure which Z is more blurry when it seems the same to me. Whenever I said something he would ask me again as if I clearly said the wrong answer. Repeat 25+ times. Very soon my good mood was gone. Then he asked me in a condescending way if I smoke pot since my pupils are not responding like they should. I'm sitting here regretting not calling him out on that extraordinary disrespectful comment. I'm in my 20's, don't do drugs and work way too hard to hear someone talk to me like that. Now it's the part where he tries to sell his overpriced contacts to me. When I ask about the prices he gets pissy and finally tells me it's cheaper than 1-800 Contacts or where ever I order from in a tone like I'm an idiot for even asking. I ask again how much and he says $55 a box. Since his vibe has now rubbed off on me I pull out my calculator on my phone right in front of him and count up how buying contacts online will actually be $75-$100 cheaper for me. I understand he runs a business, has inventory and needs to sell it. But I have my own priorities as well and $100 is a lot of money for me to just give away to somebody who is rude to me if I don't give him what he wants. As I'm leaving he takes the seat from his secretary and sits there pretending like he's typing something, probably to give the hint I should not make another appointment. Don't worry Mr. Siu, I'm never coming back. I've never left any kind of medical appointment covered in anger and bad vibes before but I did today. Your greediness cost you a yearly eye exam, contact fitting customer. Clearly my $80 bucks an hour is not enough for you. Cry me a river. read more

I have been going to Dr. Siu for about 5 years now. He is excellent at what he does. I wear both progressive glasses and bifocal contacts. He really knows how to fit both. He does not let you go until your glasses are perfect. Two times I bought frames elsewhere....what a mistake (wrong size for my face, could not accommodate progressive lenses). Now I only buy glasses at Dr. Siu's office. The are always fit well and are no problem at all. I do get compliments on my glasses and people always compliment me on my eye color (tinted contacts.) read more
