Beet Salad with Jerk Chicken
Mike R.

We have been here several times over the years. Still consistently good service and food. Service was especially good tonight. The server/ bar tender was friendly, prompt and informative. He sold me on a Mango Margarita when I had not intended to buy a bar drink. It was delicious! I also commented on the habanero sauce that is served with the bread, and he sold me on a bottle (hint thicker but very similar to Marie Sharp sold at most grocery stores for a lot less). The restaurant is roomy and has a definite Caribbean vibe. My wife had the Pork Tenderloin which was moist and full of flavor. Her plantains (very good) were almost as good as she makes at home (best for me to say this). My beet salad was fantastic except the chicken was a little dry. Unfortunately, we moved away from Tulsa and won't be here as often. Wish we had a Sisserou's in the OKC area.

When I'm housesitting in the area, sometimes Sisserou's serves their brunch for the residents. I always miss it & recently I had time to check their brunch out before going to work. Biscuits & Oxtail Gravy was what stood out to me for many reasons. It was way too good. Everything went well together: the oxtail gravy, the bacon crumbles, the mango chutney (my favorite part). It was the right amount as well. Two biscuits with plenty of the components listed (they weren't stingy with the oxtail). There are two other things I wanted to try off of the menu: Tropical Oatmeal & Mango Coco Chia Pudding. I've tried a good majority of Sisserou's menu & that's rare for me with any place, their food is overall good.

I visited Sisserou's on a really special night out. I had high hopes because of the reviews and location in a part of Tulsa known for having great restaurants. I was highly disappointed. I did not expect such low quality food for such high prices. Or low quality, food, at all. The food was not well seasoned. It came out hot, but I question whether it was at all fresh. I am a Black lady from Houston, Texas-I know what Caribbean food tastes like. This was not Caribbean food. The complementary bread brought to the table was awful. The plantains were basic, the rice and beans had an awkward seasoning balance, but the double sandwich was decent. The drinks and dessert were lovely. The one major upside was the fantastic customer service. I can't speak highly enough about the hostess and waitress and other servers. But I have no clue what on earth was going on in that kitchen. I will not return and I wish I was a meaner person. But I had to pay and tip the servers. It wasn't their fault. I don't know how this place is still in business. I thought Oklahomans knew better food.

Listen... Sisserou's is quickly becoming my go to spot! The atmosphere and service is always top notch! And the food is always delicious! The words I put here will never do the food it's true justice! You have to experience it for yourself! The last time I was in I said I would try the Stewed Oxtails the next time and that's what I did!!! I have been eating oxtails for as long as I can remember and these taste like home! It brought on a flood of memories of my mom cooking them... We also had the Salmon Rasta Pasta! Another hit! Salmon was cooked to perfection and all the flavors were spot on!

Great service, as per usual (thank you very much Destiny and David). I will say, I'm a bit disappointed with my drink because they no longer brûlée the grapefruit (and that totally elevated the drink). Also, the (usually tasty) bread was il stale on this visit (but has been tasty on many other occasions, so may be an off night for the baker). The Rasta pasta, on the other hand, was amazing and the nog is not to be missed.

Rum Punch - only on Sundays!

So I was visiting Oklahoma and saw that Sisserou's came highly recommended--and now I see why! As a Caribbean girl with very specific taste buds when it comes to flavor and authenticity, I'm usually hesitant to try Caribbean restaurants in the States. But let me tell you--Sisserou's did NOT disappoint. The ambiance was chill and welcoming. They sat our party of seven in the back, and we were super comfortable. The music set the mood perfectly--good island vibes, and everything felt criss (clean, nice, on point). We started off with some coconut bread/bakes, and they were absolutely delicious. One friend got the shrimp and loved every bite. I went for the Jerk wings since I needed something light before my flight--but also got the oxtail to go (more on that later!). Let's talk about the rum punch. They only serve it on Sundays, and it's just $8 a glass. I got mine no ice because usually restaurants water it down, but I probably should've taken the ice... because WHEW--it was strong AND so good. I ended up ordering two! Now let's squash a stereotype real quick: Caribbean restaurant hosts can sometimes have a rep for being standoffish, but not here. Our host (wish I caught his name!) was hands-down one of the sweetest, most attentive people I've ever met. His energy really added to the experience. The Jerk wings? Phenomenal. The spice, the seasoning, the presentation, and that avocado cream... everything was balanced and bursting with flavor. And about that oxtail I planned to take home? I started eating it before my flight and had to force myself to stop so I could save some for my boo--he had to try what real oxtail tastes like! The portion was generous, definitely enough to share. Bottom line: If I ever find myself in Oklahoma again, I will definitely be back. From food to vibes to service--Sisserou's is the real deal.

Second visit I have to speak on it. I had the oxtail stew and plantain. The oxtail stew was savory and filling. Not like places that give you 3 small pieces and tons of rice with barely any gravy. Definitely some of the best oxtail that I've had stateside.

I was greeted and promptly seated when I arrived. Staff is top notch and made me feel valued. They brought out bread and butter which was nice. I was pretty hungry after my flight landed in Tulsa. I hadn't had anything to eat all day. I ordered the chicken curry, rum cake, pineapple margarita, and a rum and Coke. The chicken curry had so much flavor. I highly recommend this dish. The drinks were made well too. Service was spot on.

So I am actually having problems determining how to rate this restaurant. The food was phenomenal and worth a visit. The EXPERIENCE as driven be the wait staff was horrible. We went here for a meal arriving at 6 pm before going to a Killer Queen concert at Tulsa Theater at 8 pm. We did not have a reservation, but were seated very quickly. It took almost 10 minutes for our server, Destiny to come check on us. She asked some questions said she would bring us our water and bread. She had another waiter trailing behind her. I also noticed one other waitress had another following behind. Another 10 minutes later she brings our water and a carafe and takes our appetizer and entree order. We ordered the fried Cod balls for an appetizer, I ordered a Cuban and my wife went with the special which was basically $36 fish and chips. We watched the restaurant fill up and other tables that came after us get their drinks, bread, appetizers, and some even their meals. Meanwhile we still had no bread and had run out of water. I finally waived Destiny down at 6:45 pm and asked if could we get more water and when would our food arrive because we needed to leave Destiny in a very snarky and loud voice informed us she was very busy with all the customers and having to train and we would get our food when it was ready. She chose to add that I needed to be more patient and respect that she is working hard here. After that she basically abandoned our table. The lady who was handling seating was also delivering food. She brought our appetizer at about 7:00pm, we asked her if we could get some water also. She brought out water and bread. At 7:15 the same person brought our dinners. I asked if she could get our check because we needed to leave fairly soon. She was very active and accommodating. She brought out our bill in about 5 minutes. The food would make me way to return. The fried cod balls were hot and tasty. My Cuban was well spiced and my wife loved her fish. Like I said. After asking about the food our waitress pretty much abandoned us. She wasn't checking on us to begin with, but after our talk she never came by. I gave her a 10% tip out of putty she didn't deserve. We left the restaurant at 7:45. Most of the tables that came after us had left, on table of 6 who were drinking hard were still at it.

Chicken wings.

I was visiting Tulsa to help out at a nearby Yelp Elite Event and ended up at Sisserou's for dinner with my colleague. It was my first time having Caribbean food outside of the Caribbean - and it was fabulous! We started with an order of their must-try Jerk Chicken Wings. These meaty wings were not your typical bar wings. They were huge and delish. Honestly, they could have been a meal in themselves. Especially when paired with their complimentary housemade mini loaf of bread. But, of course, we had to try more. After much indecisiveness reviewing their amazing dinner menu, I settled on the highly recommended Stewed Oxtail. It tasted like it had been sitting in grandma's crockpot all day (in a good way), so tender it literally fell off the bone. And the accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked as well. I also enjoyed their Hibiscus Royale cocktail - so refreshing and delicious. My only regret is that the portions were so big. I had to take most of my oxtails back to the hotel (where I enjoyed them for breakfast before my flight the next day). The atmosphere of this place is beautiful, too. With low lighting and pops of color, it was very welcoming (and the staff were excellent too). Bonus points for the huge parking lot! Highly highly recommend Sisserou's if you're in Tulsa!

Just get the jerk chicken. Trust me. I know you're going to want to try other things on the menu. I've tried a lot of them. Get the jerk chicken. It's filling and flavorful. You won't regret it

I didn't know it at the time but I was very fortunate to be in an excellent location in downtown Tulsa. My hotel was in walking distance of at least 10 restaurants. I love Caribbean food so I was shocked that the Sisserou's restaurant was literally 20 seconds from my hotel. I contemplated when I was going to visit but it became apparent that I needed to make this one of my first stops. I can tell you that I was not disappointed. There was no line so I was seated immediately. First I selected on the menu was the patties. I didn't know what to expect but I was open to try anything Caribbean. Once the patties came out I was a little surprised that they weren't bigger but I have to tell you small is just as powerful. They were absolutely amazing! I could have stopped and I would have had a great evening but I selected the snapper meal which took it to another level. The meal not only came with snapper but included shrimp and plantain. Again, a different variation than what I am accustomed but certainly exceeded expectations and would try again without exception. Overall, a great night and would highly recommend this place if you are in downtown Tulsa.

Complimentary bread! Delish!
Kent V.

This place was good but expected better! Prices were high for Tulsa standards. My rum punch was good and strong. The complimentary bread was delish (careful for the bright orange sauce - super spicy!). I ordered the baked chicken and it was delicious. Good flavoring on the chicken. The chimichurri sauce was a nice touch. The mac n cheese could of been better. Was not really impressed. Expected more. Vegetables were huge and had some good flavors. Meals took a little long to come out (over 30 mins) but our waiter was super friendly. I would come back again if visiting the area, just expected more for the price and amount of reviews!

The oxtails were sadly very oily and soupy. Plus they were served with white rice, which is a crime, especially for what they're charging.

Catrachitos - Tajada Closeup

Yay for one more Honduran restaurant in Tulsa! If you haven't tried their food yet and wonder what…read moreit's like...similar to other Central American countries, the staple ingredients are corn, beans, tomatoes, salty cheese, grilled meats (chicken, pork, beef) and seafood. It's different though in that it also uses tropical fruits like plantain and coconut, reflecting the African and Caribbean influence. If it's your first time trying it, I'd suggest the baleada--folded wheat-flour tortillas with stuffing of your choice (fried and mashed red beans/meat and avocado/scrambled eggs), crumbled white cheese and Honduran-style sour cream. I also recommend the tajadas--sliced and fried green plantains with cabbage and other veggies and the meat of your choice (ground beef/chicken). It's a lot of food, so you might need a to go box. For drinks, my favorite is the tamarind water. It's so refreshing! To end your meal, ask if they have any semitas. They're like the Honduran version of conchas (a lightly sweet bread covered in a crunchy sugar cookie-esque topping) but dare I say---even more delicious! I usually just eat the sugary top of conchas but the semita bread itself is so good on its own. I'll come back to get just a bag of those. The space itself is definitely bigger than what it looks like outside. It's noticeable that they've done a lot of remodeling inside. There's plenty of seating space and a spacious bar in the back. The service was amazing! Super friendly and helpful. Aly, the owner, was there when I came in and since they weren't busy, he took the time to welcome me and tell me more about his business. He also owns the hot dog carts parked near the exits of Lowe's in midtown and Broken Arrow (which are amazing!). He also has them on their menu. Oh and if you're wondering what Catrachitos means, it's the diminutive of "catrachos", a nickname for a Honduran, which comes from a victorious 19th century general. It's also a dish consisting of fried corn with beans and cheese.

After being irritated at knowing the history and…read morejust imagining how beautiful and thriving the area once was, I thought some comfort food would hit the spot. I had a vegetable plate after staring at the menu and only seeing protein options of fish (swai, catfish, talapia), chicken, or pork chop. Black eyed peas were good; cabbage was over cooked beyond recognition and was brown; green beans were too salty, which I exchanged for mac & cheese; and the fried green tomatoes were sliced sandwich thin--the fry coating might have been thicker than the actual tomato slice. All I could taste was the fried coating. Another order was whole fried catfish, catfish filet, wings, mac & cheese, and green beans; peach cobbler for dessert and blue Kool-Aid. The cobbler was ice cold, straight from the cooler with soggy crust, no cinnamon/nutmeg. My vegetables were luke warm. Best thing for me was the cornbread and peas. $50 on mediocre food. Such a let down. I expected so much more. Wishing I didn't have a 2 day reservation, I was ready to get back on the road and head home.

From midwest comfort food to Caribbean fare to southern-style deliciousness, this little city has it all. In fact, I have yet to have anything even close to a bad meal here. And one of the best I had on my recent visit was a two-piece catfish place from Sweet Lisa's. This tiny little spot is basically takeout-only (though they do have a couple of very small tables by the door...which I nicely asked if I could eat at so my catfish didn't get cold walking back to my hotel, and they very kindly obliged). It's not a fancy spot by any means, but it's homey and has that family-owned vibe that I love in a small restaurant. The catfish meal came with two sides. It was hard to choose, but I picked house-baked mac 'n cheese plus blackeyed peas. It was all just incredibly delicious. The catfish was perfectly, tenderly fried. The mac was creamy and cheesy. And the blackeyed peas tasted like they'd been simmering for hours (with healthy chunks of a ham hock swimming in their delicious broth). I also grabbed a piece of their lemon cake, which I enjoyed later for a hotel dessert. It was all...incredible! I was there on a day when a new employee was learning the ropes, and she was so sweet and friendly, asking all my questions since I'd never been there before. While I ate at that little table by the door, a steady stream of customers arrived to grab their takeout orders. This place is popular!
