Finally got to try Fixins Soul Kitchen! A friend had told me about the one in LA, so when I moved to Tulsa and saw they had a location here, I was excited to check it out. I stopped by with a friend for dinner, and the place is very nice and clean, with a friendly and welcoming staff. The food was good overall. I ordered the shrimp and grits and if I see that on a menu, I'm definitely trying it and it hit the spot. My friend got the catfish nuggets, and those were really good! Of course, I had to get my go-to drink, a French 75, and it did not disappoint. I didn't get a chance to try the Kool-Aid (my friend told me I should've!), so now I definitely have a reason to go back. I'd love to come back and try more items and maybe even brunch if they offer it. Overall, a solid spot and one I'd recommend checking out!

I visited Tulsa, OK for a research workshop and my hotel recommended Fixins for lunch. I was part of an 8-person group that stopped by. Fixins is a Soul Food restaurant that had a lot of favorites, but also has interesting takes on standards. For example, I tried the deep fried deviled eggs, which was lovely because there was a crisp flavorful crust, but when you bite into it, there is the familiar deviled egg taste. They added a seasoned cream topping with a bacon bit garnish. I also ordered the shrimp and grits. The dish was well seasoned and there were about six medium-sized shrimp at the center of the plate. The grits were mixed with finely diced onions, peppers, and tomatoes in a gravy that made the grits slightly liquidy in consistency, but the flavor made up for it. For an "authentic experience," I ordered the sweet tea; whoa it's sweet! And it know better! It's a large cup, so you are well served. Don't order if you have concerns about blood sugar! My colleagues also enjoyed their dished: fried chicken, potato salad...! We kept saying that we wanted to return to Fixins for another meal but we were staying in town long enough. If you're visited Tulsa, Fixins' is worth the trip.

Yum! Loved being able to try this spot out where the food was bomb, the customer service was incredible, and the culture was great! I ordered a two piece when I should've got a three piece! Those greens?! Baby!! Yes. Order them. I ordered peach cobbler to go, not sure why it was cold but maybe it comes prepared in a skillet?! Delicious nonetheless, but hated that I had to warm it in the microwave at the hotel. The wings were so good and crispy I came back for breakfast. The eggs were delicious and the portions were generous. I will be bringing my husband Warren Stewart Jr. to Tulsa just to eat at his old mentors spot, Kevin Johnson!

Man This is an amazing spot to eat. The chef's really got it figured out. We had the fried chicken and cat fish and easily my new favorite. The service was unmatched, and very patient.

I've been wanting to try this spot forever! And finally had dinner before a concert downtown. It was dead on a Tuesday night, and our server was so nice. It's a really cool vibe inside. I had a vodka kool aid, and it's exactly as sweet as momma makes it in the holler. Fried green tomatoes were crispy and delicious. Both biscuits & cornbread are delicious with specialty butters! My fish was perfectly fried. Mac & cheese has tons of flavor. But my favorite bite of the night was collard greens. Absolutely amazing! I'll definitely be back to try more menu items.

Well, I finally made it to Fixins to review their talked about fried chicken. And it did not disappoint. First off, the atmosphere is really nice. It's an upscale restaurant with a nice menu. Sorry, I can't tell you what else was offered on the menu cuz I only came in for 1 thing; Fried Chicken. The Fried Chicken came out hot and smelling great. It was crispy and juicy. I couldn't tell if they had brined it but regardless, it was juicy. The flavor was really Extra. I like my chicken simple without a lot of seasonings but they definitely had added some stuff in there. But that's ok, I ate every crumb and cleaned them bones like I was homeless. My only issue was that either they cooked my chicken a little long or the grease was too hot cuz the crust was a little dark. But still juicy so still good. Imma give it another try yo see if it was just one of their chefs was not paying attention or this was how they do it. The collard greens were good. Again, a bit over seasoned for me but I ate every bite. So what's up with no masked potatoes and gravy?? Fr? That was a shock for me. But I know all that takes time. But I need mashed potatoes and gravy and some home made biscuits to give it a 10, but I'm giving Fixins Fried Chicken an 8. Atmosphere and vibe was a 10 though. I'll definitely be back.

We've been wanting to try Fixins since it opened a few years ago but rarely go downtown. Now we'll be headed downtown once a month! Better than advertised. I got the 2 Piece Fried Chicken w/ yams and greens and cornbread muffin. Wow! The chicken was seasoned perfectly. Not as moist as Eischen's chicken but still delicious. The yams and greens perfect! The rest of the crew split the fried fish and Mac. They said it was perfect! Service and the inside were great. Loved the artwork. Highly recommend! A little pricey but worth it.

We like Fixins'! This was a great opportunity to find parking easy on a Saturday to see what all the food talk downtown was about. We are glad we tried fried chicken, greens, black eyed peas. I did. My husband had the pancake brunch option. Brunch is before 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Sure is a popular hit in Tulsa!! Host and table staff are friendly and welcoming. Had an enjoyable time!!

Nice gem in downtown Tulsa. Both the food and drinks were good. The oxtail, greens and mac n cheese stood out in my meal. We had the fried deviled eggs and artichoke dip as well. The service and conversation with our server Kiara was great. Soft R&B playing in the background set the vibe just right. The place was clean and well lit. Can't wait to try something new next time

Fixins is a soul food restaurant in downtown Tulsa. My first visit was in 2023, and I remember the food being outstanding. That time I ordered the catfish. This time I ordered the Oxtails. My order came out within 10 minutes. When it arrived to my table there was no steam from the oxtails or my collard greens. Hannah, my sweet waitress, warmed the food for me. I ordered a side of extra gravy ooooo weeee SALTYYYYY!!!! I'm really upset at myself for pouring it directly on my food. Hopefully I can do something at home to save the oxtails. I love the selection of music they play, especially on Sundays. But if you get the oxtails skip on the extra gravy

I love this place. The S/O and I come here a lot. We're vegan and we love the vegan menu. When we bring our friends and family here (meaty people) they like this place as well. That said, lately the vegan items have been VERY hit or miss. The sides are always en pointe but the mains have been less so. The blackened tofu has come out SO SALTY several times that it is almost inedible. The other things that come with it aren't salty so it has to be in the preparation of the tofu. How? How can that much salt get added and no one notices during the preparation? The vegan burger comes out in all kinds of ways. Despite the menu listing what comes on the burger, it comes out with missing veggies, sauce, etc. The staff are always very nice when we point this out and they take it back and make it right but this has been happening SO OFTEN we've stopped ordering anything to go. With no assurance that the items ordered will arrive as described on the menu, why would anyone? And that the vegan items have been so reliably unreliable is a big deterrent from ordering to go. Which sucks! I loved suggesting this for large groups since they offer vegan and meaty options. As the only soul food joint in Tulsa with vegan options this is especially disappointing. I hope they get this sorted out and return to the reliably delicious food they served for most of their existence in Tulsa.

Great Food, Great Vibes, and Excellent Service We stopped by Fixins Soul Kitchen while visiting our niece for her return to college, and we really enjoyed the experience. As Louisiana and Texas natives, we're pretty serious about good soul food -- and this spot definitely delivered. We ordered the oxtails, fried fish nuggets, collard greens, and gumbo. Everything was packed with flavor. The oxtails were seasoned perfectly and full of flavor, though they could've been a bit more tender -- still very enjoyable overall. The fish nuggets, collard greens, and gumbo were all on point. And listen... the croutons! Definitely give them a try -- one of a kind and a surprisingly great touch. Our server Briana was amazing and made great recommendations. She even swapped our mac & cheese for the collard greens (which turned out to be the right call -- they were delicious). The restaurant was clean, had great vibes, and the jazzy music made for a really nice atmosphere. Prices were very reasonable for the quality and portions. We'd definitely come back and recommend it to anyone looking for good soul food with a nice atmosphere.

ITIS ALERT Have you ever eaten so good that all you want to do is go home, skip the shower, crawl into bed, and wake up the next day? Yeah... that's Fixins Soul Kitchen in a nutshell. I was visiting Oklahoma and stopped by on a foodie mission--and let me tell you, I'm picky. I'm from D.C., so I know what good food is supposed to taste like, and Fixins did not disappoint. Let's start with the mac and cheese--because that's a hit-or-miss item at a lot of soul food spots these days. But here? It was creamy, cheesy, and on point. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside--exactly how it should be. Now here's a tip: if you're deciding between the biscuit and the cornbread, get the biscuit. I planned to share it with a friend, but she devoured it before I could even get a bite. That should tell you everything you need to know. I also had the adult Kool-Aid (you already know), and it was the perfect little kick to go with the meal. Service was friendly and the vibe was cool. My only gripe? They brought one person's food out way before the rest of the table. I'm not a fan of that, but honestly, everything else ran smooth, and the energy in the place was warm and welcoming. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in town. Fixins knows how to serve up flavor and comfort in one plate.

From midwest comfort food to Caribbean fare to southern-style deliciousness, this little city has it all. In fact, I have yet to have anything even close to a bad meal here. And one of the best I had on my recent visit was a two-piece catfish place from Sweet Lisa's. This tiny little spot is basically takeout-only (though they do have a couple of very small tables by the door...which I nicely asked if I could eat at so my catfish didn't get cold walking back to my hotel, and they very kindly obliged). It's not a fancy spot by any means, but it's homey and has that family-owned vibe that I love in a small restaurant. The catfish meal came with two sides. It was hard to choose, but I picked house-baked mac 'n cheese plus blackeyed peas. It was all just incredibly delicious. The catfish was perfectly, tenderly fried. The mac was creamy and cheesy. And the blackeyed peas tasted like they'd been simmering for hours (with healthy chunks of a ham hock swimming in their delicious broth). I also grabbed a piece of their lemon cake, which I enjoyed later for a hotel dessert. It was all...incredible! I was there on a day when a new employee was learning the ropes, and she was so sweet and friendly, asking all my questions since I'd never been there before. While I ate at that little table by the door, a steady stream of customers arrived to grab their takeout orders. This place is popular!

Most importantly, everything arrived hot and fresh, which I always appreciate when a restaurant is handling a large volume of customers. The service was friendly throughout my visit. The restaurant offers both dine-in and takeout options, with a good amount of seating available inside as well as televisions throughout the space. I ordered the four-piece wing meal, which came with two sides. I chose the collard greens and mac and cheese, along with the cornbread that came with the meal. The mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment for me. It was not particularly cheesy or flavorful, and it reminded me more of a stovetop boxed mac and cheese than a traditional homemade soul food version. It did not appear to be baked, although I could be mistaken. The collard greens were decent, but they also lacked some of the depth of flavor I was hoping for from a soul food restaurant. They were enjoyable enough, but not especially memorable. The cornbread was easily my favorite part of the meal. It was thick, moist, slightly sweet, and full of flavor. I would happily order that again. As for the wings, they were cooked very well. They were hot, juicy, and not dry at all. While I thought they could have used a bit more seasoning or flavor, the texture and preparation were excellent. One thing that did catch my attention was the dessert selection. Everything looked delicious, and if I were to return, it would likely be to try one of the desserts rather than another entrée. Overall, the experience was pleasant, and the staff handled the festival crowd well. While the food did not quite meet my expectations for a soul food spot, there were a few highlights, particularly the cornbread and the well-cooked wings.

GAVE ME FOOD POISONING- We visited My Momma's House on March…read more21 around 6:00 PM (they opened at 5:00 PM), and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. The patio seating area was extremely hot, with little to no airflow, making it uncomfortable to sit for an extended period. We placed our order around 6:20 PM. Initially, the hostess advised against ordering the meatloaf, explaining it would take "a while" (about 20 minutes). However, when we asked the owner, Chris, he told us it would be ready in 10 minutes, so we decided to proceed with the order. Our table ordered four meals: two meatloaf dinners, catfish, wings, and soul rolls. One meal (the catfish) arrived within about 10 minutes, but the remaining dishes were not served until 7:22 PM--over an hour later. This meant we were unable to eat together, and most of our party sat waiting in uncomfortable conditions for over an hour without any updates or communication from staff. When we raised our concerns, the owner's response felt dismissive. Chris and his mother were sadly unable to take accountability for our bad experience, even after mentioning 2 of us got food poisoning, instead he said that I the consumer "approached them wrong" as if I am not a paying customer who is trying to actually give feedback! While I was disappointed with the slow service and hot conditions I was never rude to them! He initially explained that the delay was due to the meatloaf taking longer to cook than the fish. However, when I pointed out that my meal had arrived nearly an hour earlier and could have been timed with the rest of the table, he then stated that the hostess had not grouped the tickets together, so he was unaware the orders were for the same table. This explanation did not make sense, as all of our receipts clearly showed the same table number. He did offer a refund, but to be clear, we were not seeking a free meal--we were looking for accountability and to provide feedback that could improve the customer experience. To make matters worse, both myself AND cousin who ordered the meatloaf became severely ill with food poisoning within hours of eating, which raises serious concerns about food safety and handling. We were genuinely excited to support a Black-owned business, which makes this experience even more disappointing. While the food we did receive tasted good, it does not make up for the excessive wait time, lack of communication, poor customer service, and now serious health concerns. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not return or recommend this restaurant.

You know you're about to eat at a "nice restaurant" but that you would be welcome in all types of dress anytime of day. I went to the restroom while my husband ordered drinks, I told him to surprise me. The waitress helped him order and he ended up ordering a drink called The Bees Knees. I loved it! He got a ranch water, boring lol. For an appetizer we shared the Crabback. It's basically a fancy crab cake but man was it delicious. Best crab cake type appetizer I have ever had. For dinner we shared the Escovitch Red Snapper. It came with rice and beans and plantains but we traded the plantains for the butternut squash soup. The fish was so tender and flaky. It was topped beautiful, thinly sliced pickled veggys and two huge grilled shrimp. The rice and beans were mixed together and the perfect pairing with the fish. This dish was 10/10 and we will definitely get it again. The butternut squash soup was so creamy and flavorful, best we have had. This restaurant is such a great place to try new food and get some of the yummiest drinks. It's a great place to eat if you are downtown for a concert or show. If you like to expand your horizons and try unique food that is hard to find anywhere else, if you can even find it, then run to Sisserou's in downtown Tulsa. The bread starter comes with butter or a spicier, saucy spread, which is delicious and has a brief, sharp zing that' hits and leaves quickly. Yes, thank you! My wife got the jerk fried chicken which was prepared almost like chicken fried chicken, with cream gravy and a biscuit rather than what you'd expect more traditional "fried chicken" to look like. Also came with a small corn cob on a stick with spices on it. She said the jerk wasn't very spicy, which some may prefer. We eat here several times a year. It's reliably good every time but doesn't reach excellent.

I gotta small Soul Bowl with rice, lemon garlic chicken, candied yams & green beans. The moment I…read moretook the first bite, it brought me back to my adolescence when I had chicken & rice and the rice would be so perfect. As I got older (& started learning how to cook), I found out the main trick was chicken stock. I didn't want the bowl to end. Plenty of rice, plenty of chicken, plenty of green beans, plenty of candied yams. There's no need to add extra, not even hot sauce, just leave it as is. As a small, it still had more than a lot of food. With a large, I'm confident it could be shared or you'll be guaranteed to have leftovers. Outside of the chicken, you can get beef tips or shrimp. Instead of rice, you can get mashed potatoes. There are two other sides outside of the ones I chose: mac & cheese and cabbage. The small bowl came at $9.99, I got a separate side of mac & cheese and my whole order came out under $20. The person who took my order was super nice. With about 5 people in front of me, the food came out not even 10 mins later. I'd like to try their beef tips & mashed potatoes next time.

The customer service was really friendly and welcoming, making the experience quite enjoyable. While I appreciated that they used premixed tea, I wish they had gone for fresh tea in the South--it just felt more authentic that way. The beef tips were tasty, though I have to say, they didn't quite match the deliciousness of Wanda.J's. They did use a higher quality rice in basmati rice, which was nice. The yams were not overly sweet and quite good. The macaroni and cheese was a bit lacking something, but it was still decent. As for the lemon cake, I enjoyed the large piece and the fresh lemon juice poured on top. I think a thicker lemon glaze could really elevate the cake and make it even more delightful.

We really only come here because my brother and his wife like it and they live out here…read more That is only to say it is a little trek for us from midtown and it often costs us a toll. Oops! I recommend getting a reservation, especially at dinner time. We like to go right before the sun goes down because everyone claps, ring bells and cheer for another day gone! It is a good time. :) The food and drinks are good. What you would expect from a fast casual restaurant. My boyfriend likes the Smokey old fashion. It is a whole thing also with a lid on it at serving and then a bunch of smoke rises from the glass. It's fun. The servers are all kind and it is clean inside. You do have a view of the river which is nice.

For my starter I ordered "Our Nice Little Salad" this beauty was crisp, fresh, and had tomatoes that popped in your mouth and bursted with flavor. The in-house croutons had that perfect buttery crunch, spiced pecans added a unique boldness and the homemade ranch was thick and creamy. I will say I had to ask three times for ranch. I just kept waiting. For our main courses we had the bone-in pork chop. Thick, juicy, and properly rested paired with red mashed potatoes.... Which were very good. The seasonal corn - was gone so quick! It was just so delicious. Ate that right up!! The shrimp scampi leaned heavily into garlic and butter in the best possible way. Shrimp were big, tender and juicy. Unfortunately my rotisserie chicken.... was very dry. I kept choking because of that. I was unable to eat it, that was disappointing. As far as atmosphere... very warm lighting, intimate feels, candle lit, steady energy, attentive staff. The dining room hums with laughter and happy customers... but without overtaking the conversation at our table. The volume was comfortable considering it was a full house.
