The restaurant at the Gender Reveal
    Tawana H.

The food at Sunday Dinner by Janet is AMAZING!!! The service is always friendly and fast. I recently had my sister's birthday dinner and my Kid's gender reveal there. The restaurant is a cute place to sit and chat with family and friends for lunch or dinner. Ms. Janet is super nice and friendly. She mingles with the customers and just makes you want to come back.

The patio seating area was extremely hot, with little to no airflow, making it uncomfortable to sit for an extended period. We placed our order around 6:20 PM. Initially, the hostess advised against ordering the meatloaf, explaining it would take "a while" (about 20 minutes). However, when we asked the owner, Chris, he told us it would be ready in 10 minutes, so we decided to proceed with the order. Our table ordered four meals: two meatloaf dinners, catfish, wings, and soul rolls. One meal (the catfish) arrived within about 10 minutes, but the remaining dishes were not served until 7:22 PM--over an hour later. This meant we were unable to eat together, and most of our party sat waiting in uncomfortable conditions for over an hour without any updates or communication from staff. When we raised our concerns, the owner's response felt dismissive. Chris and his mother were sadly unable to take accountability for our bad experience, even after mentioning 2 of us got food poisoning, instead he said that I the consumer "approached them wrong" as if I am not a paying customer who is trying to actually give feedback! While I was disappointed with the slow service and hot conditions I was never rude to them! He initially explained that the delay was due to the meatloaf taking longer to cook than the fish. However, when I pointed out that my meal had arrived nearly an hour earlier and could have been timed with the rest of the table, he then stated that the hostess had not grouped the tickets together, so he was unaware the orders were for the same table. This explanation did not make sense, as all of our receipts clearly showed the same table number. He did offer a refund, but to be clear, we were not seeking a free meal--we were looking for accountability and to provide feedback that could improve the customer experience. To make matters worse, both myself AND cousin who ordered the meatloaf became severely ill with food poisoning within hours of eating, which raises serious concerns about food safety and handling. We were genuinely excited to support a Black-owned business, which makes this experience even more disappointing. While the food we did receive tasted good, it does not make up for the excessive wait time, lack of communication, poor customer service, and now serious health concerns. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I would not return or recommend this restaurant.

The mac and cheese tastes truly homemade, the kind that instantly brings comfort. The drinks are priced just right, making it easy to enjoy a full experience without feeling overcharged. Because of the…read morecrowd, the food took a little longer than expected to come out, but not excessively so. Most importantly, everything arrived hot and fresh, which I always appreciate when a restaurant is handling a large volume of customers. The service was friendly throughout my visit. The restaurant offers both dine-in and takeout options, with a good amount of seating available inside as well as televisions throughout the space. I ordered the four-piece wing meal, which came with two sides. I chose the collard greens and mac and cheese, along with the cornbread that came with the meal. The mac and cheese was the biggest disappointment for me. It was not particularly cheesy or flavorful, and it reminded me more of a stovetop boxed mac and cheese than a traditional homemade soul food version. It did not appear to be baked, although I could be mistaken. The collard greens were decent, but they also lacked some of the depth of flavor I was hoping for from a soul food restaurant. They were enjoyable enough, but not especially memorable. The cornbread was easily my favorite part of the meal. It was thick, moist, slightly sweet, and full of flavor. I would happily order that again. As for the wings, they were cooked very well. They were hot, juicy, and not dry at all. While I thought they could have used a bit more seasoning or flavor, the texture and preparation were excellent. One thing that did catch my attention was the dessert selection. Everything looked delicious, and if I were to return, it would likely be to try one of the desserts rather than another entrée. Overall, the experience was pleasant, and the staff handled the festival crowd well. While the food did not quite meet my expectations for a soul food spot, there were a few highlights, particularly the cornbread and the well-cooked wings.

I had a vegetable plate after staring at the menu and only seeing protein options of fish (swai, catfish, talapia), chicken, or pork chop. Black eyed peas were good; cabbage was over cooked beyond recognition and was brown; green beans were too salty, which I exchanged for mac & cheese; and the fried green tomatoes were sliced sandwich thin--the fry coating might have been thicker than the actual tomato slice. All I could taste was the fried coating. Another order was whole fried catfish, catfish filet, wings, mac & cheese, and green beans; peach cobbler for dessert and blue Kool-Aid. The cobbler was ice cold, straight from the cooler with soggy crust, no cinnamon/nutmeg. My vegetables were luke warm. Best thing for me was the cornbread and peas. $50 on mediocre food. Such a let down. I expected so much more. Wishing I didn't have a 2 day reservation, I was ready to get back on the road and head home.

The moment I…read moretook the first bite, it brought me back to my adolescence when I had chicken & rice and the rice would be so perfect. As I got older (& started learning how to cook), I found out the main trick was chicken stock. I didn't want the bowl to end. Plenty of rice, plenty of chicken, plenty of green beans, plenty of candied yams. There's no need to add extra, not even hot sauce, just leave it as is. As a small, it still had more than a lot of food. With a large, I'm confident it could be shared or you'll be guaranteed to have leftovers. Outside of the chicken, you can get beef tips or shrimp. Instead of rice, you can get mashed potatoes. There are two other sides outside of the ones I chose: mac & cheese and cabbage. The small bowl came at $9.99, I got a separate side of mac & cheese and my whole order came out under $20. The person who took my order was super nice. With about 5 people in front of me, the food came out not even 10 mins later. I'd like to try their beef tips & mashed potatoes next time.

While I appreciated that they used premixed tea, I wish they had gone for fresh tea in the South--it just felt more authentic that way. The beef tips were tasty, though I have to say, they didn't quite match the deliciousness of Wanda.J's. They did use a higher quality rice in basmati rice, which was nice. The yams were not overly sweet and quite good. The macaroni and cheese was a bit lacking something, but it was still decent. As for the lemon cake, I enjoyed the large piece and the fresh lemon juice poured on top. I think a thicker lemon glaze could really elevate the cake and make it even more delightful.

Stutts BBQ in Tulsa hits you with that rare, disarming warmth where the food is great, sure, but…read morethe real hook is the feeling that you just wandered into someone's family kitchen and they decided to feed you until you stop talking. The chopped brisket carries that perfect Tulsa flavor. It's not trying to be Austin, it's not chasing trends, it's just deeply smoked, tender, and unapologetically saucy in a way that makes you rethink why you ever bothered with sliced brisket at all. The ribs come out with that gentle tug, not the fall apart nonsense, the kind of rib that tells you the pitmaster actually respects the craft. And the hot links bring the heat in that slow, creeping way that makes you nod to yourself like, yeah, this is the right kind of trouble. But the buttermilk pie is the closer. The secret handshake. The thing that makes you sit back in your chair and realize you're not in a restaurant, you're in a home that just happens to have a smoker out back. It's creamy, tangy, sweet, and somehow nostalgic even if you've never had it before. It's the dish that makes you text someone immediately. Stutts isn't polished. It isn't corporate. It's lived in. It's warm. It's the kind of place where the food tastes like someone actually cares about you. And that's the whole point.

The pork ribs were incredibly tender and flavorful, pairing perfectly with the spicy sauce. The chopped brisket was that classic, smoky goodness and absolutely hit the spot. The service was exceptional, and I truly came in as a stranger and left as a friend. The restaurant was clean, comfortable, and well kept.

For dinner we shared the Escovitch Red Snapper. It came with rice and beans and plantains but we traded the plantains for the butternut squash soup. The fish was so tender and flaky. It was topped beautiful, thinly sliced pickled veggys and two huge grilled shrimp. The rice and beans were mixed together and the perfect pairing with the fish.
