How many of you have heard of Sunday Dinner by Janet? I love good soul food, so when I heard of…read morethis place, we had to try it. While called Sunday Dinner, we came for a Saturday lunch. I wasn't able to find many photos of the place and wasn't sure what to expect. We walked in and discovered they serve "buffet" style similar to Nelson's. She ordered the smothered chicken, and I had the smothered pork chops. They had quite a selection of sides, yet somehow we both got mac n cheese and broccoli rice casserole. This never happens as we usually coordinate and order different items just to try more things. Our meats tasted great and were super tender. The mac was flavorful, and the casserole was good, but a little too mushy for my taste. Let me know if you've been and what you thought of it. And if you haven't, go give them a try and support a real local restaurant.

I went on a Sunday after church so, of course, it was packed, I saw cakes, banana pudding, and deserts galore in the fridge. The menu was decked out in a nice font on the right side of the wall and the sides were in front of you and continuously being refreshed. The staff was amazing and handled the huge crowd in the restaurant with grace and smiles, even making recommendations on items to order. I ended up with the catfish, mac and cheese, and collards. I got my order to go and it was still hot after the 20-minute ride to my hotel. The seasoning on the fish was A1 and it had just the amount of crunch needed if you are in the city GO TO THIS PLACE.

And then there are the garlic cheese biscuits floating in hot butter!…read more I can only eat here once a year. The portions are enormous, the food is Cajun flavorful, rich and decadent. I had the Voodoo Chicken, lunch portion with cheese grits and a side salad. The food was piled high. I cannot imagine eating a dinner portion. The pictures prove it. I took half home for lunch tomorrow. My wife had the Shrimp Po' Boy. It was about the size of a pirogue; loaded with perfectly blackened juicy shrimp and enough fries on the side to make a meal by themselves. Along with the fries, two tasty sauces to dredge them in. A very nice restaurant, with guess what, New Orleans Mardi Gras themed décor. The service first class excellent all the way! I loved the food and service, but I have to pace myself. The best Cajun food that I have had in Oklahoma.

Some people seem to like it. We had the catfish basket this evening. It was very good! Thin slices of cat fish with a delightful crunchy battering, fried to perfection. Not greasy at all! Sides: We chose; coleslaw, very fresh and tasty, fries, crispy lightly seasoned coating, collard greens cooked southern style, (almost my favorite) green fried tomatoes, nice thick slices were coated with the same crispy coating as the fish. The Server talked us into the chocolate cake. It was crazy huge, but disappointed lacking in intense chocolate flavor. The server was exceptional! She actually seemed to enjoy her job! Effective & efficient, and very pleasant! Thank you Katie! I love the Mardi Gras Christmas trees and totally New Orleans music! Maybe someday they will find some bands to play LIVE New Orleans music! Espresso martinis were delish!

On my return, it did not disappoint. Tender, perfectly breaded, and smothered in rich cream gravy atop homemade mashed potatoes, it's easily among the best I've ever had. Add a side of their crisp fried okra and tender green beans, and you've reached pure comfort-food bliss. A friend opted for the four-piece dark fried chicken plate and declared it might be the best fried chicken he's ever tasted--no small praise. The staff adds to the charm, combining efficiency with a warm rapport, particularly with the many regulars who clearly keep coming back. The decor is simple and unpretentious, but you're not there for the furniture--you're there for the food. And that chicken-fried steak alone is reason enough to make the trip.
