The bar was lively and I'm sure at peak hours the booths and high tops are full of folks enjoying their meals and drinks. For our meals we had the chicken cobb salad with cajun ranch dressing. It was big enough fotlr two and very fresh. For my meal I had a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo and the seafood dip which is an app that i had as my meal. Both were really good. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the smell coming from the kitchen was a treat all in itself! The waitress was amazing and made a few recommendations, which we took. I didn't get a picture of the biscuits but if you go her and don't get them, it's your loss! These country biscuits were some of the best I ever tasted! They came with a strawberry syrup/jam that was incredible! At the advice of the waitress, I had the Cajun Seafood Pasta! It was everything I hoped for and more! It was delicious! I got the Andouille Sausage Hush Puppies which tasted amazing but I was shocked to learn that there wasn't sausage actually in the hush puppies. The description explains that there are pieces in it but then it was told to me that it was just fried in the sausage grease. I wasn't a fan of the misinformation. This establishment is located right across the street from the Tulsa Driller minor league stadium, so parking can be a challenge. We were seated right away with no reservations. Our server was nice, even though we had to track her down to get eating utensils for our appetizers. The seating is comfortable and the menu is pretty extensive. My wife and our neighbors wife chose the smothered meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. My neighbor and I chose the chicken fried chicken. He ordered mashed potatoes green beans. I ordered the cheesy grits with their "okie caviar" which is corn succotash and black eyed peas and squash casserole. My wife did not like the meatloaf at all. She said it was terrible. She said the mashed potatoes had bacon in them, which she said overpowered the potatoes. She said the green beans tasted canned also. Our neighbors wife said the meatloaf was ok and said the mashed potatoes were good along with the green beans. My neighbor and I loved the chicken fried chicken. It was one of the best that I have had since moving here. It was perfectly seasoned and moist with an excellent breading. The country gravy was spot on. He liked the mashed potatoes and green beans. I loved the squash casserole. It came out in a little cast iron dish and was magma hot, but damn was it good. It's made with summer squash and was so good. The cheesy grits were dense, but good and their "okie caviar" was tasty also. We will definitely be back again to try something else on their menu. The service is great as the hostess greets and seats you with a smile. The servers are friendly and knowledgeable checking on patrons often without being intrusive. The highlight is, of course, the food where the portions are huge! The Country fried steak is made with ground meat and fried to perfection with a crispy texture but not overwhelming. The gravy tops it off with a thick creamy texture and is quite flavorful. The fried chicken is made in a similar fashion where it is served flat and boneless. The Jambalaya is also very delicious filled with various meats and is spicy but not so much where you can't enjoy your meal. Their celebrated Biscuits were well made and a very large portion. A really good place to have a business lunch. The menu may seem small but there are some very good options! We had an awesome server (Christine) who was right there when you needed her whether it was refilling a drink or taking requests. Since the entire party didn't arrive at the same time were ordered the Andouille Hush Puppies and the Biscuits & Jam. I would recommend both! The Crab Dip came shortly after the remaining party arrived. The dip was actually very tasty but heavy on onion. It wasn't as hot (temperature) as I would expect it to be but it was still good. They were several entrees ordered; Cajun Pasta, Chicken Fried Chicken, Shrimp & Grits, Catfish, & the Kentucky Hot Brown! I think everyone was quite pleased with their choices. My choice was the Kentucky Hot Brown - it was worthy! My next visit I will choose one of the entrees. This is a sweet restaurant with a very relaxed atmosphere, kind of a down-home vibe. Service is pretty good, though our waitress seemed to run past our table several times. The food. I was home in Oklahoma and had to have the chicken fried steak. I wish the menu would have said the size of the steak ... it was small. The taste was ok, though the breading kept falling off. My husband enjoyed the catfish, another real Oklahoma meal. He had mac and cheese as a side, very creamy and tasteless. The waitress replaced it with the beans. Good for a leisurely meal, maybe not so good if you're in a hurry. Suggest getting it to go lol. I ordered the pimento cheese omelet without bacon. Our server repeated it back to me and the person delivering the food said it did not have bacon in it. My omelet arrived completely full of bacon so I asked others at my table if I had received their meal in error and both omelets at the table had bacon inside of them. The food took awhile to arrive so I didn't want to sent it back - I just picked it out. Everyone else's meals were huge and they enjoyed them. It's a good value for the price. The market next to the restaurant had a selection of ready to eat meals, homemade sauces, pastries, Made in Oklahoma food items, handmade cards, shirts, and stickers. Very cute shop. I purchased some local honey and 2 bagel bombs: Sopapilla Cheesecake and Apple Pie. The Sopapilla Cheesecake was not sweet inside, I was expecting it to be more cheesecake than cream cheese. It was still good though. The Apple Pie one was disappointing - the dough was raw and the apples had a weird flavor. I unfortunately had to throw it away. Overall I would like to bring my in-laws here as this is their favorite type of cooking. I think they and my husband would enjoy it very much. I ventured into downtown Tulsa today for lunch and wound up at Isla's Southern Kitchen! I met my friend Cody (I forgot to get a selfie with him this time ) and we sat down to try something new! I really enjoyed the interior of the restaurant, as it felt southern and homey. Definitely reminded me of some spots I've visited in AL and LA. Our server today was a young man who knew how to stay on top of his game. He came by several times to check on us but wasn't too invasive. He was prompt in getting out order and kept up with drinks. The manager stopped by for a moment to make sure we had a good experience but didn't linger, which I appreciated. We started our lunch adventure with the southern tasting board. It was full of yummy treats including jam, black eyed pea hummus and boiled peanuts . The peanuts tasted fine but were served chilled. I'm used to getting them at the gas station or dude on the side of the road selling em hot. This was a little different. Overall a solid appetizer and got the 3 of us started just fine. I had the Okie Smashburger. It was quite yummy and pays homage to the classic Okie smash burger but adds a unique twist with adding breaded and fried onion petals. Not traditional at all but is a fun and delicious play on a true classic. I opted to add a side salad with my lunch and enjoyed the house made ranch with it. I really want to give this restaurant a five but for how it presents in the prices that it demands I feel that the food and drinks need to be tweaked a notch. The restaurant itself is gorgeous. The upstairs area has a lot of seating for more diners and they even have a little Gastro grocery store but I was underwhelmed unfortunately by the food and my side was completely bland. My cousins brought me here as an out-of-town guest. It's in downtown Tulsa, not far from Black Wall Street. Since I learned that most restaurants in Tulsa serve HUGE portions, I was rather conservative in my ordering. I got a Biscuit & Jam and a side of bacon. Boring, I know. i got the catfish po' boy with the cajun fries. the bread was great, very soft. there was a good amount of the cajun slaw, which might be a swap for the mayo by using remoulade... which is something i don't think i've had before. catfish was lightly battered, comes with two pieces. the cajun fries had a steak cut, they were well seasoned. i'm quick to use a dip with fries (even ketchup at times) & i kept them plain & the seasoning made up for it. there's an oyster option that i might come back for because it's been a minute since i've had oysters. there are a handful of sandwiches to choose from along with a handful of entrees on the lunch + dinner menus. you have other options like gumbo, cajun pasta, chicken fried chicken & so forth. i'm definitely interested in their brunch. there's a corner store (connor's) that's attached to isla's that i visit quite often. read more

In Tulsa for business and went to Isla's Kitchen for takeout. I had a bowl of gumbo and a catfish po-boy. WOW! Super fast service and the food was so tasty. The gumbo was smoky and had a wonderful flavor. The catfish was perfectly cooked and the sandwich was AMAZING. I gave 5 stars because there was nothing higher. This is such a lovely restaurant! The space is a lot bigger than what it seems from the outside. It feels chill and casual. The space is bright and beautiful. We were immediately greeted by a host who came to the entrance as soon as we walked in. There was a short wait for a regular table or booth (it was lunch time) but we were okay with a high top. We sat close to the kitchen and it was great to see the staff interact with one another. They helped each other and overall it seemed like a nice atmosphere. The service was amazing. I wish I would've asked our waiter's name. He was super nice and attentive. He recommended the blackberry lemonade and said be had made it that morning. I tried it and was not disappointed. Delicious and refreshing. The deviled eggs were amazing and the corn bisque was out of this world. I should've gotten the bowl instead of the cup. I went with the Cajun salad and added shrimp. My coworker got the po'boy and he really enjoyed it. Next time, I'll definitely try the desserts, the bread pudding looks amazing. Great addition to the area! We'd been waiting months for Isla's Kitchen to open in downtown Tulsa. Our first time in was for their weekend brunch. We were greeted by the hostess when we stepped inside, then seated at a booth by the front windows. We had several servers come by to take drink orders, tell us about the brunch items offered, and take our order for food. All of the staff were courteous, helpful, and efficient. I ordered the cold brew lavender latte and the pimento cheese bacon omelet. My husband had the chicken and waffles. We each enjoyed our meals, and look forward to returning for lunch or dinner! Went to Isla's today to celebrate a graduation. When we arrived, there were only 2 tables with people, rest of the restaurant was empty. We waited about 10 minutes at the front before anyone even acknowledged we were there. We had 7 people and they sat us at a table of 6. So one person was just standing waiting. So strange. We even had a reservation! The service here is really bad. Disinterested, no smiles or engagement, little familiarity with the menu, and very slow. The food situation was really strange here. To start, we order "biscuits for everyone" (that's how we stated it), and she brought out 2. They weren't listed on the menu so there was no way to no there would only be 2. As a waitress, she should have said something. 2 clearly wasn't enough. Next, were the drinks. 4 people at our table got lemonade (at $4.50 each). When they were all almost finished (before our food even came out), she's like, "by the way, no refills." WHAT? That's something you should tell people when they order the drink. And their glasses are hecka small - about a cup of liquid. The rest of the food was average. Nothing was served hot, very little was even warm. My eggs Benedict was cool and very soggy...no idea how long it had been there before she brought it. Everything needed salt. Like others have said, food was brought out in stages which is always strange. Ambiance is nice. The rest is not. We won't be back. read more

This place has everything it needs to be a very successful restaurant, I feel it just needs kitchen organization and help. This time here we visited for Sunday brunch. My father and I each got the Okie benny. Which was a take on eggs Benedict except with an open face biscuit, sausage patties, and poached eggs topped with gravy and crushed pork rinds. The idea and taste was all there, but they both came out lukewarm/ cool to the touch throughout. I also got the nonalcoholic old-fashioned, which was amazing and couldn't hardly tell the difference. This was a 10 out of 10. My wife got the blueberry French toast, which was definitely fresh and hot. It came out steaming. This location was recommended by our Uber driver and therefore we decided to try. The location was easy to find, in a busy downtown corner of the design district. The place was clean and inviting, and the staff was friendly and welcoming. I decided to try the fried bologna sandwich with a side of Cajun fries. Went in and there were multiple tables open but they were only taking reservations. I don't know if that's how they normally operate but it seems counterintuitive to attracting business when you only take reservations while also having five 4+ tops open. I have only eaten here once before and it was really good food and we were the only group in there for most of the meal. But I didn't plan it so I'm not sure if we made reservations for that day. But this makes it harder to want to go there for a random brunch because id rather be able to walk in and wait for a table rather than having to make reservations in advance. read more
