Love, love their fried okra! But everything there to eat is tasty. I, especially like their dessert menu options.

This place is wholesome... from the greeter to the food choices, to the setting. The setting is very airy but not impersonal. The seating options vary from tall-boy tables closer to the bar to the lower tables and the surrounding booths. The service staff was very nice. We were checked on by our server and two others with water refills, enjoyment of food, and if we needed anything more. Now, Let's talk food. We came to get something different, but not too filling. So we were leaning toward the light side. My friend and I enjoyed salads with a biscuit on the side. I had a Strawberry Field Salad w blackened shrimp added. My friend had the Southern Chopped Salad w blackened chicken added. Both were yummy, balanced and satisfying. They did not skimp on the serving size. It defeated the purpose of eating light. We added a biscuit with butter & jam. That biscuit was huge and fluffy. We split it and it was like eating 2 full biscuits at your ordinary establishment. That thing was soooo good. The butter has a sweet finish and the "jam" was like a homemade strawberry syrup. I had a tart blackberry lemonade and my friend enjoyed her smooth coffee both with sides of water. Saturday night and we needed food. Excited to try Isla's since I absolutely adore Juniper's and I've never been disappointed at any of the Justin Thompson eateries. Most tables were full, but we were seated immediately upon arrival. Dining area is nice without being fussy. Our server was friendly, attentive, and fun. She steered me right with Memaw's Farmhouse Ale getting my dinner off to a good start. This Cabin Boy's brew is light and refreshing. We ordered the Andouille hush puppies for our appetizer. Five large hush puppies fresh from the fryer with a remoulade dipping sauce soon appeared. I honestly couldn't taste any Andouille, but the appetizer was fine. My daughter, visiting from St. Louis, was really excited to have chicken fried steak. Standard fare for those of us living in Oklahoma, but something she said she never sees on menus up her way. Unfortunately, this entree was disappointing. The meat did not taste as if it had been seasoned - a little salt and pepper would have definitely helped, but the breading?? What? It tasted as if the flour had not been cooked. The smashed taters also lacked any seasoning. The green beans were pretty good. I had the shrimp and grits which did not disappoint. It was a very flavorful dish. I also ordered a side of collards and the squash casserole. Let's start with it first. Not much flavor despite swimming in butter. The collards were tasty with just a hint of heat. However, once we got to the bottom of the cup the vinegar was overwhelming, nearly sending me into a coughing spell. For dessert, we shared the strawberry buckle. That got us into a big discussion on cobblers and such other Southern fruit desserts. I liked this buckle, warm and not too sweet. The food was great! However the service was terrible. Our waiter was Nick or Nicholas. He threw the straws and togo boxes on the table. Came to our table maybe 2 times. At one point I was looking around to see where I could fill up my own drink. He made us feel like we weren't welcome. It made my birthday lunch quite sucky. Fried okra, 1/2 doz oysters, and cup of gumbo for apps. okra good. oysters great. gumbo bad. absolutely zero flavor. i do not like their 'andouille'-i dont know where they get it, but its all wrong. it tastes like bologna. creole parm pasta, jambalaya entrees, with sides of collards and pimento mac n cheese. pasta just ok. jambalaya was like sysco diced chicken, the bologna-tasting andouille, and a few shrimp. waaaay too much protein, hardly any rice. like really no rice. wtf. collards inedible. mac n cheese had no pimento. bluberry cobbler for dessert, was blueberries with a crumble on top. hideously sweet. like many other yelpers noted, we left an enormous amount of food on our plates. everything we had tasted like it was prepared by people who have no talent, skill, or passion for cooking. i think with some minor tweaking they could get the food to where it needs to be, starting with an XO with a palette. sad & disappointed, was really hoping to have a new fave place downtown. mucho food wasted to the bin, $160 with tip, i came home and had some cereal.... read more

My best friend and I happened upon Isla's Kitchen on our trip to Tulsa. Well, what a find. The food was OUTSTANDING. Each dish made our tastebuds dance. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is very nice. However, what puts this place over the top is the service we received from Chalmer. We first ate here on 1/18/24 but I forgot to review it. It was a pleasant experience. All we had were some apps, a wine and a beer. The waiter was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu but he was almost too attentive. We ate here again on 2/20/24 around 3pm. There were only two other customers. We chose this time because parking can be a problem. We were able to park right in front of the door. Immediately shown to a booth on the north side with view of my car and Driller stadium. Emily was our waitress and was friendly, efficient and knew what she was doing. This time, instead of appetizers, my favorite partner ordered a Sauvignon Blanc ($11) and an Okie Smash Burger with Cajun Fries ($15). I got a Yuengling Lager ($6) an the Kentuckky Hot Brown with Cajun Fries ($15). She loved her burger and fries and could only eat half. I loved my fries and could only eat half. It was too much food and I should have heeded the advice of another reviewer and asked for the cheese sauce on the side. This is a pleasant restaurant with a nice bar and several booths with window views. The music last time was great. Not too loud. Popular older rock songs (Van Morrison, etc.) This time it was mostly country with Bonnie Raitt thrown in every now and then. The price point seems about right. We'll be back. There was a guy before me and the host came over greeted him said nothing to me and returned later to seat me. I had stopped in several times over the last few months to inquire about the opening date. Once they finally opened, I was an early diner. 1st time for lunch was a bit disappointing. I had the catfish; too much breading and not much flavor, the fries where cold and greasy. After speaking to a co-worker who had a nice experience over the weekend, we ventured back for lunch. We sat for 15 mins without being greeted or given water. This review is simply for how this establishment can improve. I ordered the cat fish...I have no words, I hate to say the worst I've had. My husband ordered the po boy and it was a sloppy mess. The bun was enormous which caused the guts to fall out on the plate before he could even take bite out of it. Isla wish they could cook! Nice looking place downtown tulsa with a promising comfort food menu. The kind of place you go to enjoy a satisfying carb overload. Unfortunately, the cook totally destroyed 3 of the 4 meals. The chicken sandwich was fine. However chicken fried steak was cooked to a crisp and what little gravy was provided was thick and pasty and just coagulated on top of the leathery steak. Eggs ordered "over medium" looked to be deep fried and slapped around with a spatula. Brunch for 4 cost me $142 with tip. It cost them one bad review. read more

Nice new downtown restaurant with cool vibes! Good location across from the ball park. Street parking (free after 5pm through week and free on the weekends). I went with a large group for lunch and they were eager to serve us. Sometimes had to ask for refills but otherwise service was great. I enjoyed the blackened shrimp Cajun Caesar salad however it was $19 and only had 5 pieces of shrimp. The shrimp was so good though but would have loved a couple more pieces of it on the salad. :) I would recommend you check out Isla's, the consensus of my group was everything was great! read more

Went in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Service was great, place is nice and clean. Food is okay, wasn't anything that made us say we have to come back for this or to try that. Appetizer was the deviled eggs, they were good. My significant other had the BBLT and the chips, he enjoyed the sandwich but did not care for the chips, they lacked flavor. I had the pulled pork bbq sandwich and Cajun fries. Sandwich was good, flavorful and the slaw they put on it was great. The fries were not the best, the seasoning didn't do it for me and some fries were cooked better than others. Portions are huge and our food came out rather quickly. The couple we were with had the chicken fried steak Sammie with Cajun fries and chicken fried chicken dinner, they both enjoyed their food. Our tab for us two was $58 before tip. (We did order a bucket of miller lite for $20, so food was more around $38 for our two meals- appetizer was paid for by the other couple) If we do go back this would be a share a meal situation for us based on the size and how well we liked our food. read more

I'm concerned , There's something strange going on with one of the bartenders here. A friend of mine said they went there the other night to have a drink and an appetizer, and he overheard this one particular bartender, making off the cuff comments about black women in reference to the recent election outcomes. I've been going to Ila's for quite some time now, so I'm really disappointed. I came in one night, sat at the bar and requested a cocktail from the same bartender that my friend mentioned was making off cuff comments. He proceeded to start making my cocktail and then left from behind the bar and took my cocktail around the corner and came back, saying that he was out of Coke and had to go in the back to put Coke in my cocktail. I don't know about you, but that made me very uncomfortable and suspicious, I declined the cocktail and ordered a different drink that he wouldn't need to leave the bar in order to get more ingredients. So this is what I have to say of the recent events from the election. It does seem that some people are now emboldened to do or say things that, maybe they would not have said if outcomes had been different. However, I just wanted to mention the recent experience that I've had as well as what my friend has had with this particular bartender. (short hair and glasses) read more

Really good food although still working out some new opening kinks I think? Came for brunch at 1230 on a Saturday and it wasn't busy, took a while for someone to acknowledge and seat us. Finally got sat and our server was super nice, she was friendly and suggested some of her favorites. We ordered mimosas and then after a while ordered food- the food came out before the drinks we had ordered a while before. The server kept apologizing and checking on them but said the bartender was backed up ..which I thought strange since it wasn't very busy. We finally got the drinks half way through the meal and it prevented us from ordering more. The food was really good, I had the low country plate with eggs, home fries, bacon and a biscuit. The biscuit and jam were delicious! My friend got a veggie omelet and it was really good, came with home fries but no toast so if you like a brekkie bread, you'll have to order it on side. All in all a good brunch, the manger seems to be lacking and should be more engaging in what is happening. Isla's Kitchen is located in the heart of downtown Tulsa right next to the Drillers Stadium. The restaurant is two story which allows you to have an amazing view of watching a baseball game while eating incredible food! The appetizers we tried were the "Andouille Hush Puppies", "Biscuits and Jam", and the "Cast Iron Cajun Seafood Dip". All of those appetizers were delicious! (I could literally eat the Cajun Seafood Dip and the Biscuits every day) The main dish I ordered was the "Smoked Chicken Gumbo". Very very good! My friends ordered the "Smothered Pork Chop", "Shrimp and Gritz" and the "Hopin John" All of them enjoyed what they ordered (I also tried some "Mac n Cheese" (total cheesy goodness!!!) for dessert, we tried the "Key Lime Pie", the "Hummingbird Cake", "Bananas Foster Bread Pudding", and "Buckle Up" (the seasonal fruit was peach). You can't go wrong with ordering any of these!
