Chipmunks are crazy at this place and will eat food left out.

Campground only gets 4 stars instead of 5 because it's small and sites are super close together. The roads are shaped like a barbell. 11 or 12 sites on one side of the campground and same on the other. To the right are first come first serve sites. To the left are the reservable sites on the .gov website. Each side has bathrooms. The number of chipmunks are incredible and they will eat anything that's open on your table and in your trash. Cute for entertainment. My site was 14. Host was lovely. Bathrooms were as clean as could be with that many people. Close to road 260, but got quieter late at night. Best thing was the closeness to Willow Springs lake. It's about a mile, and it is walkable. Has a small parking lot. Stocked with trout, but hard to catch from the shore, you really need to be in a boat. No rentals at the lake, but has a nice boat launch. Pit toilets and picnic benches available. Overall a nice overnight or two day spot to stop.

Stayed here this weekend and it was great! The campsite hosts were awesome!! Everything was being cleaned consistently and even bleaching the table and fire pit grills for Covid-19 safety. They were on top of things but not up in our business. Site was clean and lots of parking space and good location to the lake. Loved that the hosts also had some firewood for sale. Saved our bums our last night. 100% will stay again!

The camp host's, Larry and Mary, care about keeping the campground in pristine condition and it is.

The rim is a true geological wonder hosting sedimentary, volcanic and metamorphic rock. The Mogollon Rim has been a favorite place for us to camp at over the years. Take the turn off to Woods Canyon lake and follow along turn off to a dirt road. We have many fond memories from our camping trips. It is free to camp and is a first come campsites. Plenty of boondock camping sites along the way to the rim or stay at one of the many campgrounds. The evenings do get cold even in the summer so pack accordingly. If you're not into camping it's a great day trip from Phoenix with lots of hiking and exploring opportunities. Great for pets, kids, fishing at the lake, hiking, wildlife watching, or just a relaxing and beautiful drive to soak in Mother Nature.

Got some tips on bait and purchased a few more lures. A couple of small snow packs still visible, and a few snow flakes in the morning. Caught and released a nice rainbow trout. Saw a bald eagle fly by and enjoyed the scenery. Had lunch near a scenic outlook. Place is likely crowded on weekends but that is expected, given the location and beauty of this place.

There are a few lakes in the Rim Lakes Recreation area, and I am very familiar with Woods Canyon, but I want to explore the other areas. Stop at every scenic overlook to check the views of the Mogollon Rim while making your way to your trail, lake, or camping site, it's worth it! If you are on the main road going to Woods Canyon, stay straight on the dirt road and make your way to Bear Canyon Lake. Its apx 12 miles from the turn for Woods Canyon. I didn't know much of Bear Canyon Lake, but ready to check it out. Parts of the dirt rd can be rough, I have a lil Kia Soul and she made the drive just fine, but if you have a low clearance, it might not be the best. Things I have since learned. Bear Canyon Lake is accessible by foot trails only. There are no boat launches or ramps, no auto access. To get to the shoreline you do have to hike down apx .02 miles with your gear. I did see some folks out on the lake in their boats/kayaks, so I am thinking I am going to give that a try. From the shoreline where I was at the views were pristine. So beautiful. I honestly can't wait to come back and explore this lake some more.

I almost didn't want to review it because I want to keep it all to myself. Because it is so narrow, it almost looks like a river. Blue Ridge is 8 miles end-to-end and is stocked with rainbow and brown trout. It is a popular destination for canoers and kayakers because of restrictions to motor boats more than 10 horsepower. I could have floated on this water for hours. The scenery at Blue Ridge reservoir is beautiful. It's located off Highway 87 about 30 miles north of Strawberry on the Mogollon Rim. There is only one convenience store with gas pumps nearby and no cell service. Rock Crossing Campground is the only organized campsite nearby if you want to stay overnight. The great thing is there are no permits needed or fees to enter Blue Ridge Reservoir. But it does get crowded at times and Forest Service workers will only allow one car at a time to enter when the lot is full. Make sure you have a reliable vehicle as the gravel road to the reservoir can get pretty bumpy. There is a bathroom on site at the overflow parking lot. Blue Ridge Reservoir is very peaceful and relaxing. I went over Memorial Weekend and it wasn't too crowed at all. It's definitely worth camping nearby so you can spend a full day here.
