Out of no where, a week from the trip we get an email that our reservation has been cancelled for maintenance.... excuse me? No phone call, or attempt to rebook us elsewhere. WOW. All other campgrounds are booked and we have NO IDEA when we will be able to go again. I'm extremely disappointed and would like to be contacted regarding this ASAP

We could've leveled it out completely but it didn't bother us. The roads within campground are all dirt, not paved, so do note that. We arrived around 11pm so it was very dark and slightly confusing to navigate since the roads are not marked. Restrooms were easy to get to and clean enough but no running water inside. Most sites are spread out decently but noise does travel if you have loud guests. All in all, a nice weekend stay and I would come back again.

Its a little less than a mile hike to a small pool of murky water, hiking along a creek. Much of it was shaded, I will post pictures. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty busy. There was also a lot of garbage, sadly- lots of alcohol bottles and stuff. We didn't feel comfortable swimming in the water and ended up leaving and hiking elsewhere.

Each site it huge and can accommodate lots of people. There is a covered area that has 6 bench tables, prep table and a large grill. They even have electricity under the prep table. Just a little ways away, near the parking area, are bathroom. Each one has electricity and are lit in the inside. Everything is well maintained. The campground supervisor comes by every night to check in you. This is just to make sure everything is in order and that there isn't random people occupying the space or creating disturbances for the other campers. You may see some cows. The roam around lot. It's worth the drive out. Really nice camp grounds. Would highly recommend it.

We arrived at 3:00 pm on a busy Memorial Weekend away from the Covid19 pandemic. There were no spaces left! We're so happy we booked EARLY online! Our first time here! You would be hard-pressed to find a more scenic creek forest camp setting in Arizona. Mighty impressive! The camp host in both LOTS A and B were extremely welcoming, very personable and obviously kept a very tidy ship. Thank You Ellen, Roger and Shannon for everything you did that made our trip just a little better. You're hard work and dedication should be recognized beyond this review. We found the fee to be fairly cheap, considering the location and time of year. It was also a very quiet site, compared to the nearby campsites. It's very close to Starr Valley and Payson etc ..too. I drove into this campground a few years ago and was not impressed and did not stay. Then this past…read moreweek I read a little about it and that it dates from the 1930s. So, two nights ago I drove down there and set up my tent on a site on a spur road back in the forest. How delightful. There are at least two springs, and sometimes more, that flow on the other side of the campground. It is now one of my favorites! Basic facilities in an old fashioned and beautiful natural setting. Plus, a campground host who even brought a fine cup of hot coffee to my campsite! I hope to go back again next week before it closes for the season on Labor Day.

This is a wonderful place to visit! Not a lot of parking but few visitors (should be many more)…read more The hill site is surrounded by a gated community but is publicly accessible - the locals love it when people come to visit and are very welcoming! Park in one of the recessed spaces (there are 4) next to the community management/sales office outside the gate. The pathway is to the left of the gate, going into the trees to the left of the clearing (it was a clearing when I went but could be under development). The path was marked on the map on the running/hiking app I use. Follow the path up until you reach the grand staircase up to the top of the hill. The site is relatively small compared to others in the area like Goat Camp and Shoofly, but is really unique in it's positioning at the top of a very high hill and the structures appear to be from the era of pit-house architecture. I hear there are plans to turn the site into a self-guided tour-able location with informational signs about history &c., and it will be amazing. I will definitely have to come back!
