We all appreciated the clean full bathrooms with warm showers, and the well maintained-sites. There is an office and store on-site that sells firewood. Very close to stores, restaurants, etc. We made a great choice!

NEW Where to start…read more Female host was on us before we were done backing in the camper. She told us we were "cock-eyed" ( HELLO... we were still trying to back in !) .. " keep your dog on a leash" ( my dog was on a leash when she said it). Said two dogs were killed there and one mutilated , then she passive aggressively said "Would you like to know why?" " because some dogs are good with people but not with other dogs" (well duh) as she walked away. She said (grumbling ) ."AND CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG! " ( yeah lady always have) We stayed at camp A16. Horse on the site and on road (and she's worried about my dogs dumps?) . Litter somewhat scattered. Bathrooms were unkept and unsanitary. The floors were atrocious. Must've been over a week since they were cleaned. Bottom line; I felt like I was walking on eggshells instead of enjoying the great outdoors. Won't be back.

It was an hour ride, but I think it was so worth it! My dog really enjoyed it! What I loved was that the facility and trail were clean and well maintained. There was a restroom station and a marker/direction for a subtrail at the entrance from a parking lot. The trail itself was clear and not crowded at all. There were just 2 other people we met during a weekday late morning during our visit for an hour there. My dog really enjoyed roaming around the trail and we loved that we didn't see any trash at all. While the trail was a bit unleveled, the path was clear! Bonus too that it was a free hike/walk for us, including parking! The only minus was that there was no cell phone signal (T-mobile/Mint Mobile), so I was very wary that we might get lost if we didn't keep track of ourselves well enough..so we mostly stayed on the trail and didn't go in too far. But...it is a wonderful place to enjoy the nature for sure!

We spent a full day visiting the Lost Dutchman national park, Goldfield Ghost Town and the Apache Trail road (at least to the part where it was closed) Because of large fires the Apache trail is closed at the halfway point. Dont let that stop you from driving it anyway. Lots of place to pull over and take pictures.. There's also a nice lookout at Canyon Lake, and if you can swing it try getting there at sunset.... The Goldfield Ghost town is also a fun and free diversion with gun battles and plenty of sweets and gift shops.. The Lost Dutchman park has a great morning hike called Siphon Draw to Flatiron trail.. 6 miles total and it's not easy but the views are epic. Look it up on Yelp...

The fire rings have a grill grate, and the camp sites have a picnic table. Bundles of wood are available for $7/ea. The tent sites are very close to each other, so if you've envisioned the whole "getting away" experience, think again. "Houston, we have a problem..." Be prepared for sounds of traffic, small aircraft, shoveling gravel, children crying/screaming/shrieking, horns honking, inconsiderately loud people incessantly cackling/laughing/arguing/talking, wake up alarms that sound the full 10 minutes, bells, buzzers, tea kettles, music and general malaise at all hours of the night and morning. But if you're cool with that, then this should be on your short list of campgrounds. And if you can look past it all, and slow dance with your sweetie to the radio broadcasted from an adjoining site, then you've really won, haven't you? Lots of trees, so bring a hammock.

Out of no where, a week from the trip we get an email that our reservation has been cancelled for maintenance.... excuse me? No phone call, or attempt to rebook us elsewhere. WOW. Loved this 8 miles round trip trail…read more Easy access by a regular car to the parking. Be sure to arrive early as a parking is limited. We arrived around 7am and it was about a half full. When we were ready to go home around noon, this place was packed. Most part of the trail has tree shades, with nice water sound, I felt pretty cool in the hot summer. Trail is mostly flat. Less than 1,000 feet in elevation gain. Trail has access to the creek throughout, you don't have to hike all 4 miles to enjoy cool water. Bring lots of water. I carried almost a gallon of water with me and I think I consumed 2/3 of them. I saw a camper hiking down in the morning. They said they packed everything including water and spent a night in the woods. That sounded really intriguing, I think I should really thinking about camping here someday.

This trail will lead you right up to the rim if you have the equipment , endurance and motivation to get to the top. Our family enjoys camping here when the weather allows for campfires. We like this area because: We have a stream/ creek right behind our campsite. We can hike / walk / explore without difficulties The area has primitive campsites We can drive back to Payson if we need something we have forgotten W e can pull a popup trailer right into the woods with little problem The trees provide shade when it's hot or sunny The weather is generally not too extreme from March to November Dogs are tolerated

The one thing I did notice is a number of the long term RV were a bit messy so it left the feeling of dirty. The owners are very nice and hard working. Nora came by to make sure we were all set. Nora and Sam have not owned it long and are making quite a bit of improvements. My husband loved the nature sounds of the deer, coyotes and other sounds at night as this one is out of town so you get the nature part of camping.

I let the host know that I had researched the sites online and that I would like a specific site # that was first come first serve; she quickly advised me snarkily that the website is not up to date or accurate and," we only have 5 sites left... Do you want one of them?" Ok so, they have a website to reserve sites but it's not accurate - got it. I asked the host if I could drive and check out the sites to make sure it is what my family wanted and she said no and that we had to choose a site right now. Who wants to choose a camping spot before looking at it? Regardless, I picked a random one since I didn't have a choice. As I drove through the loops looking for our site, I counted 14 open and available first come sites, which were marked by the giant OPEN tag. Weird that we were told that they only had 5. Lastly on the hosts, I attempted to purchase wood from them twice. We waited both times at the front for over 20 minutes both times and the hosts never came out of their RV. I have a 2 rating due to the close access to the lake. The campgrounds are for you if: - You dont care about loud noises, music and generators that run all through the night. We finally had some quite around 230am. - Don't mind hosts that are not very available and give inaccurate information. - You don't mind a site where there are no rules. Examples - People flying camera drones into your campsites and people screaming around the camp loop with their ATVs and electric bikes non stop. All this to say that there are far better sites in the area where the hosts really do know how to create a good experience and enforce basic noise rules late at night.
