I kind of started low key freaking out as I started reading the reviews of how you need water shoes or hiking shoes, and to bring water, then reception was lost. Okay, we're doing this, with or without those things. Having water shoes and/or hiking shoes helps but it's not necessary. There was plenty of people in flip flops and crocs: men, women, and children. The water rock slide was cool, there are two other kiddie options for water rock slides just below. You just have to wet it. Water, you'll live without it but the air was dry and I was super thirsty by the time we got back to the car. But, I needed my hands free and my load light since I was worrying about not having the proper footwear. So it's all good in the neighborhood. Definitely recommend!

The downside to that is that you are hiking in at the hottest part of the day. Which makes the water feel that much more refreshing. The hike isn't hard, you just follow the creek. Some people were in flip flops- which is doable, but the rocks can be quite slippery in places. Bring lots of water. There's some shade, but not tons. Oh- and watch out for the random cow. He's not friendly.

He creates a super chill and friendly vibe, always there when you need fire wood , a good conversation, knows all about the surrounding area and is full of knowledge & hospitality. It's pretty cool in the sense that on a good day, a 90-minute drive from Phoenix can make you feel…read moremuch further away than you actually are. Just don't expect a complete change of scenery. This is "high desert", which basically means it's the same old scenery, but more shrubs because it's a good 15 degrees cooler. You are not entirely escaping the summer heat, so if you're that sensitive, move further north. The campground itself is pretty boring. There's not enough open space to do much of anything but sit around and stare into the distance. It is also relatively flat, with no real hiking trails. If you like walking up tall things or participating in open-field sports like soccer and flag football, you will be disappointed. What's cool about this is the stream that flows through. It was 100 degrees out, but suddenly manageable as long as you sat next to the surprisingly cold water under plenty of shade. Walk a little bit upstream and downhill and you'll come across a shallow watering hole that appears to be the main attraction. But if you walk a good mile upstream, braving the terrible, terrible footing that is the seemingly endless off-trail pathway of large rocks, you will be rewarded. There's another large area for swimming, and the majority of campers won't bother going there. At roughly 5 1/2 feet, it's perfect swimming for just about anyone. But yeah...that's cool, but about the only thing (besides making s'mores) you'll really do here. It was cool for a one-night, one-day getaway if you want everyone in your life to leave you alone.

I almost didn't want to review it because I want to keep it all to myself. Because it is so narrow, it almost looks like a river. Blue Ridge is 8 miles end-to-end and is stocked with rainbow and brown trout. It is a popular destination for canoers and kayakers because of restrictions to motor boats more than 10 horsepower. I could have floated on this water for hours. The scenery at Blue Ridge reservoir is beautiful. It's located off Highway 87 about 30 miles north of Strawberry on the Mogollon Rim. There is only one convenience store with gas pumps nearby and no cell service. Rock Crossing Campground is the only organized campsite nearby if you want to stay overnight. The great thing is there are no permits needed or fees to enter Blue Ridge Reservoir. But it does get crowded at times and Forest Service workers will only allow one car at a time to enter when the lot is full. Make sure you have a reliable vehicle as the gravel road to the reservoir can get pretty bumpy. There is a bathroom on site at the overflow parking lot. Blue Ridge Reservoir is very peaceful and relaxing. I went over Memorial Weekend and it wasn't too crowed at all. It's definitely worth camping nearby so you can spend a full day here.

Cragin) is this amazing hidden gem in Happy Jack that is popular with canoers, kayakers, and fishermen. The campground is about two miles from the reservoir. Rock Crossing is comprised of 31 individual family sites and two double sites. Each site can accommodate up to 8 people and is good for both tent and trailer camping. I booked my site ahead of time on recreation.gov. The campground provides fire rings, toilets, cooking grills, drinking water, bear food storage lockers, and picnic tables. The surrounding area is so beautiful and has ponderosa pine and oak trees all around. You also get some great views of the Mogollon Rim. It's pretty quiet here in the evenings and the stars shine bright because there are no major cities around. We tent camped and had a great time grilling and kayaking at Blue Ridge. Book early as the sites fill up quick!

Full kitchen, with fridge and freezer, stove, and stove top to cook. They even have cups, plates and they give you dish soap and a sponge to clean the dishes and a drying rack. They also had wifi, tv, and everything you need!! They have a cute loft on top for the kiddos and my son absolutely loved it! They have a a dog potty area, tennis/pickle ball court, playground, pool, hot tub, splash pad area (it was not on when we were there) fire pit, an arcade area, shuffle board, pool table, and a reading area. Definitely was a great fun stay! I love that they are pet friendly as well! They also have good eatery nearby as well!

Arrived at the resort, checked in and given directions to our site. We stayed in a wagon…read more The concept was great but the wagon needs some repairs badly. The bunk beds squeak and the ladder rattles whenever a person is on them. One turnover at night and everyone wakes up to the rattles. The door is cracked and see thru light. Most of the 8 wagons doors are cracked. The people right next door were long term there. I have been to many RV resorts and not one had full time people living there. Met some residents there that have been living there over 2 years. A group of kids (teenager and preteens) arrived in the bathrooms for showers and took 3/4 and the floors were flooded after. Drains working but the kids were wild and noisy while in shower. No reason floors flooded by toilets and sink. I was doing laundry. Dogs taken into laundry room with sign that says no dogs allowed except service dogs. These dogs were not trained service dogs. The day before checkout, The next door neighbors were dropping F bombs every few words and the adults seem to be arguing with 2 young children, 1 an infant, were crying while adults yelling. The pool water was cloudy and the tile on the pool was filthy. The splash pad was so calcified and other minerals that the yellow, red colors were white looking. Looks like maintenance is lacking there a lot. Campers don't follow rules and no one is there to enforce. We left a day early because of the language going on and neighbors. Upon check out reported this to the person at checkout. She stated they have had some issues with the people, yet they are still there. Could be a great place, but needs cleaned up and campers need to be removed if can't follow rules. That comes from management. I would not go back.

I LOVE THIS CAMPGROUND…read more ONE STAR: We have young kids and so we only get a chance to go camping once or twice a year. We've had a reservation to go camping 6-18/6-21 for a couple months. Out of no where, a week from the trip we get an email that our reservation has been cancelled for maintenance.... excuse me? No phone call, or attempt to rebook us elsewhere. WOW. All other campgrounds are booked and we have NO IDEA when we will be able to go again. I'm extremely disappointed and would like to be contacted regarding this ASAP

The one thing I did notice is a number of the long term RV were a bit messy so it left the feeling of dirty. The owners are very nice and hard working. Nora came by to make sure we were all set. Nora and Sam have not owned it long and are making quite a bit of improvements. My husband loved the nature sounds of the deer, coyotes and other sounds at night as this one is out of town so you get the nature part of camping.
