No girl in a flat bed Ford though. My husband was bummed about that! LOL However, there is a big Route 66 emblem in the middle of the intersection & a historic building. If you are an Eagles and Glenn Frey fan this is worth the time to visit this display. Right across the street is a fabulous gift shop for great souvenirs and more. This is the best place for the price. We picked up a few t-shirts, guitar picks and presents for some of our other groupies. Winslow is a very small town. There isn't too much to do here, so could only imagine what it would have looked like back in the day when this iconic song was created. **Fun Fact- the original version was based off of Jackson Browne actually being stranded in Flagstaff but Glenn Frey changed the lyrics to Winslow as it was a better fit rhythmically & vocally. The locals are super friendly. Take it easy and enjoy the Route 66 appeal. Encourage visiting the 9/11 Remembrance Garden and the Old Trails Museum while exploring this legendary spot.

The Homolovi ll was a great trail early in the day, it was exciting to see all the ruins, imagine what the buildings looked like and what life was like back in the day. The washrooms were decent, the shower heads could use some work as water went everywhere. But the pressure was good and it was nice and hot. I would definitely recommend this park to others. It's a quick jump into Winslow if anything is needed.

There was also a mormon settlement nearby. Be sure and check out the diorama in the restroom at the center. Inside the state park is a nice view campground with full hookups, pull through sites, and water at each site. Flush toilets and showers are available.

Here in Winslow AZ stands a memorial to the Victims of that day. It is not massive, it is not large, but is a somber reminder, simply constructed in an open park just as you enter the city. It calls to you as you ponder the fateful day. Pieces of the towers are on display in the most honorable way, allowing you to touch the souls we lost.

A good friend of mine lost her father that dreadful day back in 2001 and all the emotion is still there, especially after talking to my friend on this 20 year anniversary! When Winslow received the beams back in 2002, at the original location on the corner of Route 66 and Transcon Lane, I was there! I was amazed that Winslow received two of the beams from the World Trade Center and why did Winslow receive them? Because they asked! With teamwork from the City of Winslow and the Walmart Distribution Center in Buckeye, the steel girders were delivered within hours of the first anniversary ceremony of this tragedy! Since then, they have been moved to this park location on Route 66, the Mother Road, which is much better and safer for viewing. When we have out of town visitors, this is a definite must see! When I visit the beams, my eyes swell up and when you touch them, you can truly feel the energy these beams carry! The flag at the Memorial was flying over the Pentagon that day and this is stated on the Remembrance Garden plaque. The plaque also states "the words 'United We Stand' remind the world that we will not fear terrorism. We hereby dedicate this garden to Northern Arizona's promise that 'WE WILL NEVER FORGET'."! This Memorial not only shows that our unrelenting heroism and self-sacrifice has never wavered but it is a perfect symbol to show that terrorism, of any kind will not be tolerated, that democracy will prevail and that indeed, WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

I had never stayed in an AZ. State Park before but it was really a relaxing sweet spot to spend the…read morenight on our way to Verde Valley. Cute groupings of mules and/or donkeys meandering on the landscape in groups within the park boundary. I love animals so that is always great to see! It was an uncrowded park and truly very beautiful. The Visitor Center, where you go to register if you are planning on camping, was very educational and the park employees we spoke with were both extremely friendly, helpful and informative. We did the driving tour, where it takes you to the 3 ruins. We got out at each stop to walk the paths and continued listening to the excellent tour on our iPhones. Much to learn about those ruins and the people who came to make it their home. The campground was well kept up, power, water, waste station, and sweet views. There were also bathrooms on site for tent campers. I felt very safe there. I loved the peaceful open space with lots of wind, sun, moon and friendly campers. Highly recommend! Suggestion: Make sure you take & drink plenty of water because it's AZ. and temps can be extremely hot in the summer. PLEASE RESPECT the land you are on there- do not under any circumstances disturb the sites or take any pottery chards. Stay on the walking paths and be respectful of this sacred place. Wow! First impression, we never felt this intense volume of quiet ever! You don't even hear the…read morewind blowing. The middle of nowhere! I mean really nowhere! Second impression - how could such a sophisticated culture live in such a desolate area? Yes, there is water nearby, but the vastness and isolation of it all is intriguing and astonishing. This vast 4k acre area is a preserve, research and archeological hub, of a more than 1,100 to 900-year-old Hopi civilization, and holds an overwhelming amount of specimens of Pueblo/Hopi debris, pottery and dwellings paraphernalia. At an estimated 4,900 feet above sea level, your 360° panoramic view of the surrounds and plateaus below to the far horizon are nothing but spectacular, miles and miles of nothing but desert. The small yet well-endowed and instructional little museum offers a great insight of what your surrounded by at Homolovi Ruins - and the staff are exceptionally nice folk. It is a terrific starter before going out on your own to encounter southwestern antiquity at its most natural. As a whole, this is a unique, intriguing and instructional excursion into the realm of the past when taken and that will never be forgotten.
