The menu is standard Indian, but done very well and made with fresh ingredients. The room is nice, with comfortable leather chairs, though the music is a little loud. The ladies room has a print of one of Darwin's specimens from the voyage of the HMS Beagle which made my inner biology geek jump for joy. All in all, it is a very nice Indian restaurant. The prices are a little higher than Allston/Cambridge but the food is much better and the spinach does not taste like it came out of a can. The service is very attentive. read more

Five stars for the food; three for service. I've eaten in the restaurant a couple of times now and ordered takeout twice. The food is EXCELLENT. I'm a huge fan of Indian food and this is some of the best I've ever had -- fresh, flavorful, distinctive, not too greasy. Portions are generous, and my simple takeout order of naan, salad and a mango lassi came with papadum, a big container of raita, and a couple of chutneys, all at no extra charge. During a couple of visits the chef sent out a small cup of complimentary soup -- some sort of spiced vegetable puree, which was absolutely delicious. They've also done a decent job with the decor -- the locale is an unassuming basement, which is hard to make appealing, but they've made it fairly inviting, and the atmosphere is casual enough to show up in jeans and/or with the kids, as well as nice enough for a dressier date. The service, as others have said, is not as professional as the food, but it seems to be getting better. The first time we were there it took an inordinately long time; the second time was much quicker. The staff seem eager to please; just not fully experienced. This is quite a good addition to the Wellesley restaurant scene -- I hope they get their service up to speed, because the food is really, really worth it. read more

My family has been coming to Singh's cafe many times a year for about the past 8 years. It is our go to Indian restaurant, as we've tried many in the area and have not been pleased! It is conveniently located on Washington Street, almost directly across from the train station. We absolutely love it - it's never too crowded but never undercrowded, the food is absolutely delicious, they have a relatively nice selection of beers/wines, and the service is fast. My favorites include chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, and gobi charchari. Of course, we always get a side order of garlic naan, which is TO DIE FOR! Their flavors and spice levels are exactly what you expect - mild has lots of flavor but not hot to the tongue, medium is a little spicy but nothing crazy, and I haven't dared to try the hot level! If you are craving inexpensive, nice yet speedy, hearty, and REAL Indian food, this is certainly the place to go. Pro tip: If you go for lunch, you get an appetizer on the house -- usually some DELICIOUS mushroom soup. My one complaint is that the servers often seem out of it. They also seem to come up to the table and interrupt you at the most strange and inconvenient times. However, regardless of their behavior, we always seem to end up coming back! read more

My mouth is watering as I recall the exquisite meal my family had here on Monday night. I love reading Yelp reviews before I check out a restaurant; you all are excellent reviewers. Thank you for leading us to this restaurant. It was the BEST Indian food we've ever tasted. Better yet was the lovely outdoor patio where we sat enjoying the view of the stone church across the street while we each chatted about our day. Best was the service. We were treated like honored guests: the chef sent over appetizer samosas and cauliflower soup on the house. Then, because our waiter discovered our kids had never tried mango lassi, he brought over small glasses for each of us. When was the last time you were ever treated so royally? I cannot remember a time. If you want delicious, mouth-watering food in a pretty location, look no further. We drove over 20 miles to try it, and we will decidedly return. read more

This place has the BEST Indian food around. Everything is fresh, flavorful, and not too oily. I ordered the vegetarian platter, chicken tikka masala, aloo gobi (not on the menu, but ask for it!), and malai kofta. They brought a complimentary fried shrimp appetizer and a little bowl of mushroom soup for starters. My grandmother especially loved the soup, so they were nice enough to bring her an extra cup. The chef Makhan, whom I was able to meet, is so kind and is very good about adjusting the spiciness. I love spicy food, but my mother and grandmother are very sensitive, and we had no trouble whatsoever with the heat. Forget what people said about the service - firstly, those reviews were written when the restaurant had just opened 5 months ago. Give them a little grace period, for goodness sake! The service is professional and friendly, and they make Singh's feel like a family restaurant. It may seem a little informal but the staff will go out of their way to please. I even got a tour of the kitchen and saw the ovens where they bake fresh, buttery naan. Try the garlic naan - it is some of the best I've ever had, including in India! What else? The price is reasonable and they have a lunch buffet (which I cannot wait to try when I bring all my friends!). This would be a great place for a date; the decor is colorful and tasteful. We found this place by chance on a Sunday afternoon. The buffet set up was pretty decent. The menu was pretty decent for an Indian buffet. The pluses: - food was Cooked in gravies which were flavorful with spices (not heat just spices) - the non veg items were really tender ( most of them). Chicken tikka masala was a little on the sweeter side and chicken was tough. - the naans were awesome - fresh hot and crispy out of the clay oven The minuses: - little to no options for vegetarians in appetizers or entrees - the staff looked sleepy and lethargic, we had to ask for our breads twice while we were eating for our curries to be served. Can't rate the food because it never arrived - we canceled our Grubhub order two hours after it was placed because it never arrived. No communication from the restaurant to us or to Grubhub and when I finally was able to reach someone on the phone I was told we were "next to be made" nearly two hours after the order was placed, so no chance of getting delivery even an hour late. Offered me $15 for my troubles on a $$$ order - no thanks, had to find other food. Not how I wanted to spend Mother's Day. Get your act together or don't offer delivery. read more

The food is always incredible and the price is fair. I always eat too much because it is so interesting and delicious. The food makes it easy to look past the service, which isn't friendly. When I arrived to Singh's Cafe for the first time, I was admittedly a bit skeptical about it simply based on their entrance. It's in a old building and in the basement, so the entryway is dark and... downward. Fortunately I didn't let that sway me - this place is AMAZING. I really love this restaurant particularly for lunch. I think this is the best Indian place in the area and they have a great buffet deal for lunch. It can be hard to know what your ordering if you go to an authentic Indian restaurant but when I bring my friends here it gives them a chance to try a little bit of everything. I'm not much of an Indian food connoisseur, but I used to have it all the time when I was living in London, and ever since I've been looking for a place to satisfy my craving. Having tried few places in and around Cambridge & Boston area, we decided to venture a little further out & explore Indian cuisine. I must say, it was surely one satisfying venture. The lunch buffet on weekdays is $8.95 and it worth every penny. The Nan, was served hot and we requested it few more times, unlike traditional 1 serving & the were happy to oblige. They had a good mix of Veg & Non-Veg items, so it satisfied my accompanying friends Veg food restrictions. The tea they have is one of the best i have ever had in real long time. Surely give it a try. The only reason i am giving 4 v/s 5 star is they are light on deserts(1 dish-Rice pudding) & it has street parking so carry some coins. The chicken tikka masala is incredible, the saag is better than any I've had in the area, the naan is fresh, and the soups are all very unique and tasty. The service can be a little slow on a busy weekend, but it has gotten better since the early days. Singh's is more hospitable to take-out patrons than any restaurant I've ever been to - each time I arrive to pick up my order, I am offered a seat at the bar with a complementary cup of a homemade soup. This place is great! I've ordered takeout and also eaten in the restaurant. The food has always been absolutely delicious and the service is as friendly as it gets. When I've gone in to pickup my food, both times they've offered absolutely delicious soup to sip on while I "wait" the two minutes it takes them to grab the bag with my food. I have only been to the buffet, haven't had dinner there yet. It is definitely one of the better buffets in town. Indian buffets tend to get stale - there's not a lot of imagination in the menu planning (think Waltham Moody St) but Singh's is an exception. The decor is nice - pleasant rather than upscale. Singh's Cafe has made getting Indian food a regular occurrence for my wife and I. The food here is AMAZING, and the restaurant has a warm and comfortable feel. If you can make it to the lunch buffet ($7.95 weekdays, $11.95 weekends), prepare to be in physical pain from overeating because you just can't stop. For dinner, the prices are notably higher than that (about $14-$25 per meal) but worth every penny. The only downside I can name is that on a couple occasions our service was a little slow. That's been infrequent though, and more than made up for by quality of food, smiles and free samples they bring to the table. Sometimes it's soup, sometimes an appetizer, you always get something. If you order takeout and sit at the bar to wait for food, the friendly staff will chat you up and give you samples there as well! read more

ive lived in wellesley for 24 years and the location of this restaurant is such that there have been 6 restaurants at this location and they have all failed. However, Singhs is different and I will tell you why. I went on a weekend evening and while it was busy, we were seated promptly. Decor was certainly more contemporary, something that i wasnt expecting especially from and indian restaurant. The menu had quite a few options and i ordered the lamb tikka masala and the gf had chicken saag. the entrees were extremely good but i must mention that the kitchen staff prepared a little amuse bouche for us. this is was a nice surprise and the tasters were quite good. Service was excellent. Perhaps there are some new wait staff there as previous reviews said the service was deplorable. i for one will be returning read more

Pretty decent place for Indian food. I drink a lot of tea, and the chai here is not too bad. The lunch buffet is pretty standard fare for Indian cuisine. For some reason there is always a debate on whether the food here is authentic or not , then the subject changes to, "hey June, where is an authentic Chinese place in Boston?" and "hey June, you're Chinese, you eat spicy food, right?" I think this is kind of messed up, but nevertheless, the food here is pretty good. I've honestly only been in Boston for about a year, so I am not in expert in either Chinese or Indian food here. I was pretty surprised that they had things like deep fried food here. The stuff for dessert here is really great, and there are a lot of fruits here (pineapples, etc). Honestly, I thought the Maharaja was a bit better in terms of the main dishes like curry/chicken, but the desserts here like the rice pudding and fruit are what make this place different. read more

The staff was extremely friendly and brought us complimentary cauliflower soup that was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend and I ordered the vegetable samosas as an appetizer. I got the chicken tikka masala and mango lassi. Both were absolutely delicious however I think I would have increased the spice a little bit more (I had medium). They even delivered complimentary warm towels after dinner as well which is always a great added touch. The restaurant was a little bit of a drive from Newton but it was well worth it. Really solid Indian food - ordered them medium spicy and it was perfect amount of spice. The garlic naan was also really good!
