These folks have restored my faith in the Apple community. I should qualify by saying that I've been paying my mortgage using Apple products for over 20 years, so I'm fairly well-informed and generally know what I'm looking for when I walk into a computer store. Over the past 2-3 years I've become increasingly frustrated with the Apple Stores that I've visited. So much so that I've debated going off of Apple entirely. I walked into Simutek, talked to a couple of the folks there, and walked out 20 minutes later with 2 used MacBook Airs and a referral to Bluespan Wireless. I am immeasurably happy with all three and profoundly glad that I walked in to the store. I'll be back. read more

The Short: Take your Apple products to the Apple Store. They do it faster, cheaper, and friendlier than Simutek. I paid $99 for Simutek to tell me they DONT know what's wrong with my laptop. Took it to Apple, they did the diagnostics for FREE. The subsequent battery replacement with Apple was CHEAPER than what Simutek quoted me. (((There's a theme going on here- many poor reviews are about battery replacements))) The Long: My 5-year-old Macbook had a failing battery. It no longer held a charge. The battery icon at the top said "Replace now!". So I called Apple to make an appointment, and they scheduled me with the next available at Simutek, which is Apple "certified". Simutek quoted me $250 for a battery replacement. I gave them my password and signed their service agreement ($99 minimum charge), and walked out the door hoping to get my laptop back in order the next day. I get a call a little bit later with bad news. Although there were "no signs of damage", the tech was unable to diagnose the laptop because the system would crash during the testing. Their report reads: "The best option right now would be to mail into apple for $694 and let them evaluate as this looks to be more of an issue than just the battery". Well.... I'm not paying half the price of a brand new macbook to have this old one shipped out to (maybe, yes only maybe) be diagnosed. I politely declined the nearly $700 recommendation, and asked that they just replace the battery as I initially requested, and I will sort out the other potential issues later. Turns out, that is against their service agreement. They cannot just replace the battery... They have to solve EVERY problem with the macbook (even though they don't know what the problems are). They said it would be "unethical" to just replace the battery. Uh, unethical? Really? I asked if there were any work arounds, anything I could do or sign to just have the battery replaced. Nope. Nothing. Since I decline the $694 fee (for Simutek to ship my laptop to Apple for them to diagnose), I now owe them the $99 minimum fee for diagnostics. Yes that's right, a $99 diagnosis saying they don't know the diagnosis.... When I expressed my frustration, I was told that I was "actually getting a good deal". Upset about the wasted time and money, right away I took my macbook to the Apple Store at La Encantada. The representatives there were able to work me in to the service schedule. The tech at the genius bar ran the diagnostics just fine and confirmed what I had been saying all along: I needed a new battery. The Apple Store does FREE diagnostics and charges $199 for a battery replacement, which is $50 CHEAPER than Simutek. I told the techs at the genius bar about my ordeal with Simutek and showed them my receipt with the "diagnosis". They were disgusted and even madder than I was about the treatment I received. One said, "I knew they were cutthroat, but that's just insane! I'm so sorry!" They were also shocked Simutek required my personal password- as a privacy policy Apple never takes down or uses a customer's password. My macbook is running fine again- all thanks to Apple, no thanks to Simutek. My advice: Beware the sneaky service contract and save yourself the trouble by taking your Apple products to the Apple Store. UPDATE 11/12/19 The owner of Simutek called me, said he reviewed my case and found that the $99 fee was not warranted. I was issued a full refund, and I have added 2 stars to my review. read more

They won't even tell me what's wrong with my computer unless I leave it with them for three days. Saw reply. Yes, it was a wasted trip. Although I had an appt at Apple I would rather have worked with a local company. Young lady I talked with couldn't give me a remote idea of what was wrong or worst case scenario or even an ETA on an estimate. Yes, she said external monitor was working but it didn't when I got home. Called to see if there was a code or keystroke sequence and was told no. But, in fact, there is. The guy at the Apple was happy to tell me what it is. Yes, she offered rental which consisted of BUYING another computer and then returning later. That's laughable. Basically, I was told that you'll get to it when you get to it, but in the meantime, I can buy a computer. Being snarky about the fact that I almost forgot my charger is just further proof of the kind of experience I had with your store. Went to Apple. It was static. They removed and replaced battery. DAWG!!! This place is the best! I frantically ran in 2 minutes after they opened on Thursday morning asking the first employee I saw for help with my laptop. I woke up to it not charging at all, no matter how much I pushed or adjusted the charging cord nothing worked. The person who helped me was so professional and helpful, took it to the back and fixed it in 10 minutes. I wonder why people actually go to this store. They make things seem difficult, try to force a person with simple questions into making an appointment they charge you for. The staff is arrogant and talk down to people (I have had this experience and several tech friends have as well.) Advice: forget this place, get Apple products and info on line; easier and not the ordeal that shopping Simutec consistently is. July 2019 I took my out-of-warranty MaBook Pro to Simutek for a replacement battery. Cost was $250, which I considered to by reasonable. After picking up my MacBook Pro I ran a systems test on it. They sold me a battery with a manufacture date of June 2, 2018; so it was more than a year old already when they installed it. Sure enough, in September 2020 the battery started swelling, making it dangerous to use. I called them to set up an appointment to fix it, and they would not do anything about it except for selling me a new battery for $250. This, despite the fact that they had installed a battery that never should have been sold. My recommendation is to find someplace else for your Apple repairs. There are reputable repair shops, and there is Simutek. The choice is yours. read more

Made the 40 mile round trip drive to Simutek to have the battery in my Mac replaced. They said it would be $250 and it would take 2 - 3 days. I said fine. An hour later they called and said that in fact they were going to send it back to Apple and it would take 3 - 5 days. Apparently it took them an hour to make this decision. A 2 - 3 day turnaround was fine, which is why I left my Mac with them. A 5 day turnaround wouldn't work. So I made the 40 mile round trip drive a second time the same day. I asked out of curiosity why they were going to send my Mac back to Apple. They said that frankly the battery replacement on my Mac wasn't worth their time. OK, fair enough. Lesson learned. As much as I can't stand the Apple Store, next time I guess I'll go there instead. read more

I went in to Simutek to get my laptop repaired and didn't have to register online first, book a date and then wait in the queue for service. Prompt and courteous the had my laptop fixed in 3 days (they quoted 3-5). While there I asked about a legacy adapter for a FireWire peripheral and the manager overheard my question and was able to find the adapter from a collection of odd and rare parts. We've used Simutek several times over the years. More recently I used them twice. My iMac needed repairs (hard drive). They gave me a very reasonable estimate and about a 3 day turn-around. It was ready in less than 48 hours and worked like new. While there I ordered a new iPad. They guessed about a week or so before it would actually come in. They had it in two days, and assisted me with migration from the old iPad. Service at this place is superb! It's not fancy, but basic, friendly, reasonably priced, and very customer oriented. I love Apple products, but will do just about anything to avoid going to the poor workmanship on repairs and general chaos at the Apple Store, along with the "canned" service and customer interaction. My husband went to Simutek to have his battery replaced on his iphone 6+ for $69. They accused my husband of having his phone in some kind of fluid - which was not true. Then they took the phone into the backroom came out and told them that the phone was missing a moisture detector sensor. ??? My husband asked them to just replace the battery. The service person told him they would open his phone for $69 and check for moisture. If there was any they would not replace the battery but will KEEP THE $69. My husband took the phone and call Apple support - they were able to immediately tell the battery needed replaced for the cost of $49. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. read more

I had trouble connecting my iPad to my home network, either wireless or wired. They determined that my VPN interferred with this process. Although I had been warned that their help could cost me $30, they waived the fee. I appreciate the prompt and courteous service and that Simutek is a local business. This place is awesome. Repair your Apple software in peace. They are in good hands. They won't rip you off for looking at it and it doesn't matter if you have warranty or not, they'll try to fix the problem. From what I've heard they were all apple techs at one point or another or have enough experience with them. At first I was skeptical, but the results of my MacBook Pro was in great condition. I even came back to them because I noticed I was missing a couple of programs and they not only put it in my computer but gave me copies on a cd just in case. They rechecked it thoroughly and saw I was missing the word document program that I came in with and helped me with it as well. read more

Absolutely the best service and the nicest people in town. Recently, when my MBP got stolen from my car, I was in a pretty desperate situation. The guys at Simutek let me trade in my old iMac and sold me a 15" MBP from late 2010 or so (Core i7 2.66 with 8GB of RAM and High Res Non-Glossy screen) for less than a thousand bucks. When they found my computer in a stolen car, the guys let me trade in that one and refunded my credit car, so that I ended up paying for the new computer completely in trade-ins. All the while, they were nice, helpful, and extremely patient with me. Two days later, I ordered a HDD/SSD hybrid drive off Amazon, and took it to them, where they installed it in less than15 mins and did not charge me an arm and a leg to do it (not even a fingernail, really). I love my Mac, and I love Simutek just as much. I will never drop one more red penny in the Apple Store. From here on out, all of my computer dollars will be given to these guys! read more

Unbelievably rude and nasty employee with beard and tattoos basically tried to start a fight with my boyfriend over our laptops that needed to be repaired. My boyfriend had just come from the Apple store where he had paid for them to replace the MagSafe on his MacBook and the guy argued that apple wouldn't do that work. Then he was giving him grief about the state of our MacBooks. Yeah, his is a bit rough, he is a motorcycle riding chef not a tech head. Mine is in fine condition for its age and has a little water damage. Wow! I am absolutely appalled and horrified that your employees would treat a potential customer this way. We have many other apple products in our household and will find somewhere else to take them. I strongly suggest the owner of this business find employees who can treat customers with respect. Do you not want our business? If I could give negative stars, this experience calls for it! read more

Having an Apple authorized dealer so close to home is such a convenience, and being that they've got great customer service I don't worry about coming here when I have issues. Granted, I don't have that many issues, but I took my iPad here after I dropped it and the case was cracked. They couldn't fix the hardware but the woman referred me to 2 different online places that she knew about, because Apple just wants to give me a whole new machine for $300. I also was checking out cases for iPads and she showed me their options and was very honest about the products she liked and the ones she thought were crappy. This is the only certified Apple repair store in Tucson. Good thing their customer service is so great! Excellent prices (less than $100 to double my RAM). I recently took my Mac to Simutek to get a larger hard drive to give it more space. They removed and replaced my harrdrive with a larger, new harrdrive. They then transferred the files from my old HD to the new one. I now have two complaints with Simutek: 1) When I got the computer home, the Mail app was not there. Not only could I not open my mail from that app, but I could not send photos from my iPhoto. So I had to go back there and leave it there for another 24 hours. When I picked it up, they implied that the missing Mail app was MY fault and that I must have taken it out of the applications folder, (which I clearly did not! Why would I have done that?) Obviously, their transfer was improperly done, yet they would not take responsibility for it, and tried to blame me. There is also now a complication with how the iPhoto pics are sorted. When I told them, their first response was that I needed to take classes on how to use iPhoto, for $39! Later, after they checked it out and were unable to help solve this, they said "these things are wonky" (which translates to "gee, we don't know how to get that working the way it used to." They did eventually get the Mail app back on there, but in their written report, they wrote that I had removed it! And the organization/sorting of the iPhoto events folders is still not back to normal. read more

I've used Simutek to outfit a small business with equipment, as well as for my personal Apple supplier. Their repair advice is always accurate, and biased towards saving the customer money instead of needless upgrades. They are a real licensed Apple retailer, just like the Apple Store, but without the terrible parking and long wait. The staff is excellent, but the owner Rich doesn't mind getting his hands dirty and can often be found helping customers directly. I made an appointment through Apple about issues erasing all the data from my MacBook Pro. I walk in and the customer service is terrible, no one greeted me when I walked in I have to approach a worker. I explained my situation on how I tried to watch YouTube videos to see how to wipe my computer. The employees response was telling me how I did a bunch of things wrong not explaining the terminology he used and then said that's $25 just to do it. If I made an appointment through Apple and have Apple care there shouldn't be any extra expense. I asked if it would be free if I went to the actual Apple store and the answer was yes. Why would anyone pay for terrible customer service. They give you a free consultation when you walk in and give you honest advice about when you can fix things yourself. He walked me around the store and answered all of my questions as I inquired about trading my iMac desktop for a laptop. I had so many questions and it was a difficult decision. He spent almost 3 hours total with me this week. With his help, I feel I really got what I wanted. He reviewed my offer and was able to get me a little more trade value since I turned in my bluetooth keyboard and mouse along with my computer. The owner was also very willing to work with me. He even offered to sell me the new floor model when they didn't have what I wanted. I bought a new MacBook and they honored the student discount last minute. Having relocated to Tucson seven years ago, Simutek has been a real life-saver, delivering me from the pretentious & usually uncooperative hell hole of the Apple Store. Everyone at Simutek has been as helpful as possible in giving me advice in my purchases of both new and reconditioned machines, as well as lots of life-saving free advice over the counter and on the phone. When repairs have been needed they instantly honor warranties or advise me on the most cost-effective route. Their staff has consistently gone that extra mile to save me time, money and aggravation. Even when I have been demanding and not exactly polite, they just ask me: "What is it that you want us to do?" I tell them and they just about always do it. What more could anyone ask? read more

I had an iMac with a failed 3tb Fusion drive that would no longer boot and I was unable to install Big Sur. I took it to Simutek and somehow they got Big Sur installed. I picked it up, took it home. I was able to clean it up, do all the updates and upgrades, and get rid of 1.5tb of unneeded files. After doing a TimeMachine backup and a clone (took over 36 hours due to the Fusion drive being very slow). I took it back to Simuek to install a 2tb SSD. I took it home, restored it using my TimeMachone backup and now everything works great. These guy know their hardware and I couldn't have done this job without their professional help. For repairs and hardware upgrades these guys are the best in Tucson. read more
