Came out to try Simply Thai after a helping a friend move. They weren't able to sit our large group so we opted to do Togo order. We got the green curry which was very good, one of the best ones in Reno. Also got the fried rice with chicken which was flavorful and the ginger chicken. So far so good, only dish that I wasn't a fan of was the basil noodle, the noodle was a bit bland and extremely soft like it was overcooked. Other than that, we'll be back to try other dishes if we are in that part of town, as it is a drive if you live in Reno. read more

First time trying Simply Thai :)) The restaurant is cozy and intimate. They really have a lot on there menu!! (Took pictures of menu) They give a complimentary soup. I tried the spicy fried rice with beef with a spice level of 3. If you love spice there spice levels range 1 to 5. I feel like a spice level of 3 is not to spicy but spicy enough to enjoy. If you don't like spice a 3 might be to hot The rice was prepared free and all the veggies in the rice tasted pretty fresh as well. I also tried the Rama Ribs. You're able to choose your spicy level with this as well and I went with a 3 and it was great The ribs are very juicy just fall right off the bone. My waiter was nice. First off, one thing I gotta say is the City of Sparks sure goes a long freakin ways out here! Simply Thai is located waaay up north on Pyramid Highway and it wouldn't be so bad, but the construction and traffic make this timewise, further than I think I wanna travel for Thai food! I can't really hold the location against the business, but just sayin! I'd heard good thing about this place and wanted to see if the Pad Thai is a good as people say! Not that I only order Pad Thai, but there are some people that do just that. They go to Thai food and all they EVER order is Pad Thai. Then I see tables of people where everybody orders their OWN dish and they don't share normal family style .... just too weird for me. OK on to the food review! The interior is very nice and modern with Thai touches. Service was fast, I think it was one of the co-owners. We had 5 people, so we ordered a lot of stuff. Started with the Thai Fish Cake ($9.95) .... sort of dry and not that tasty, skip it. Next was the Stuffed Thai chicken wings ($10.95) ... decent version 3 stars. Then came the chicken Pad Woon Sen ($12.95) , stir fried glass noodles. There was a lot of toppings and chicken but lacked the wok seared flavor the dish needs ... 3 stars. The Rama Ribs ($13.95) were next. It only came with 3 medium sized ribs for that price, so we ordered 2 orders. The ribs were sauced nice but for the price not worth it, but 4 stars for the flavor. There was a short break, and then continued with the black pepper chicken named Garlic Goodies on the menu ($14.95). Decent version, lots of chicken, 4 stars. Next, was the Spicy Eggplant ($14.95). Good version, thought it could have been a little spicier for 3 star spicy. 4 stars. Panang Curry ($13.95) appeared next, piled high with chicken. I liked the flavor and thickness, I'd recommend it, 4 stars. Last up was the Pad Thai ($12.95) that was supposed to be so good. It was one of the best flavored Pad Thai I ever had, I'll give it that, but the downfall were the noodles. They're using dried and re hydrated noodles here, like dried pasta versus fresh pasta. The best Thai places use fresh noodles and you can tell by the texture and softness of the rice noodles, the way they feel in your mouth. But on top of that, the noodles needed to be cooked more. Al Dente is for Italian pasta, not Asian rice noodles. Still it was an enjoyable version due to the very nice flavor of the sauce .... 4 stars. Simply Thai, being located so remotely for me, I don't think I'll make the journey again. The restaurant itself is decent and service fine, prices are a little on the elevated side. None of the dishes were standout exceptional for me, but all were a decent versions, none that needed to be sent back or anything. We have always enjoyed Simply Thai. Unfortunately, our last few visits have not been to the standard we had come accustomed to. Our last visit may be our final straw. The service was slow and uncaring. We were seated without any utensils or water glasses (usually pre-set). We immediately noticed a few dirty tables, which are usually cleared quite quickly, but not during this visit. We heard two tables on the opposite side of restaurant complaining, missing items, no refills, etc. the server was unapologetic and uncaring. Eventually, we were asked to order. We placed our order and requested utensils, water and pot of hot tea. Our meals were very slow coming, but finally came to the table. Again, we requested utensils, water and hot tea. We waited a bit and decided to eat our egg rolls, which were not crispy and ice-cold. We tried to get our servers attention, to no avail. She stayed out of sight, while all patrons were needing items. Eventually, she re-entered the dining area taking bills to the opposite side of restaurant tables. The patrons were talking to her as she walked away. We finally got her attention, by standing by the kitchen and again requested our utensils, waters and tea. She acknowledged she heard us. She brought water glasses (empty) and utensils and the bill. We got up and filled our glasses from a tray of prepared water pitchers. We tried our best to enjoy the food, but the experience was awful. We never saw our waitress again. The tables around us were never cleared. We left our bill and money on the table. I was in Reno for a wedding and decided to meet up with a friend who moved to Sparks. I figured I would have to steel myself to eat Americanized Asian food but was pleasantly surprised to find very good Thai food in the desert! Everything we ate was delicious. Our friend had the salad which was plentiful and enough that she had to take leftovers home for the next day. My partner and I shared the spicy eggplant and duck dish and the garlic noodles. All very good. We also had a salad roll. Very fresh veggies. If you are used to authentic Thai food, go here. You will feel happy when you are done eating. read more

My granddaughter and I decided to stop by for a late lunch and we were delighted! The service was spectacular and the food was amazing! The ambience is calm and quiet, and makes for a relaxing meal. Simply Thai is a very cute restaurant with all the usual Thai fixings. Everything comes in great quantity and quality. If you order the same thing at every Thai restaurant, this place will live up to any other Thai restaurant. I do have to convince them every time I go on my spice level. We haven't been here since the pandemic so thought it was worth giving it a go again. Every time we have been here the food is very good and the service friendly. Last night was no exception. I wanted to shake it up and try something I haven't before so ordered the Ginger Duck. Spot on. There had to be a whole duck breast in there and the ginger was forward but not overpowering. We had crab wontons as an appetizer (they showed up with the entrees but that is OK). There were hot and crispy and lots of filling. This place seems to do a brisk take out business but it was nice to sit in their little dining room and have our dinner. For some reason they were not able to offer the beer or wine that is on their menu. I did not ask why but if that is important you may want to phone ahead and see if they have it. I don't remember when the last time I reviewed here, but after lunch today, I feel compelled. I come here every week, such great ownership, and AMAZING food. First and foremost, I've never had a bad meal here. Not one. This place is as close to a Bay Area Thai restaurant as you will get. Their lunch specials are off the hook. Today I got the cashew love shrimp. Wow factor 10. The tasty onion, bell paper, shrimp and that AMAZING sauce. Wow. Also comes with a tasty salad with peanut sauce, rice and a samosa. For like $10! Yesterday after a long day at work I went into Simply Thai for a to go order. I was greeted right away. I put my order in and while I waited the nice woman behind the counter made me a Thai iced coffee, that was delicious. While enjoying my coffee before I knew it my order was done before I could finish it! When I got home and started to eat my meal every dish was fresh and and very tasty!! This restaurant is wonderful. First impressions can be important, and this place does an excellent job at setting a tone. As you walk in you can't help but notice the wonderful ambiance created by the calm, soft authentic music accompanied with excellent Siamese decor. If your eyes were shut (and it was a little more humid) you could imagine yourself in Chiang Mai with very little effort. I cannot say enough about the quaint, and earnest atmosphere this restaurant has cultivated. The staff (presumably the owners) are the most gracious, and polite people you could ever meet. They are very patient, and unassuming while simultaneously being thoughtful, and instructive toward the fare. Learning a little something with the meal (for me) is always a welcome addition. You'll know everything you need about the drinks, dishes, and desserts once you've shown an interest. This assures that you'll never be surprised further than you may like. The food is unbeatable. I've had the opportunity to visit Thailand, and I can say from personal experience that this is as close as you can get the authentic Thai cuisine. I was able to sample a few dishes by rotating with my comrades - the curry, pad Thai, and fried rice were all amazing. Each of us ordered different meat options so was able to try the chicken, shrimp, and duck - none disappointed. I ordered my pad Thai at a 5-star level spiciness, and was warned that this would be very hot. Being stubborn about wanting my food as spicy as possible I assured the owner that I was ready. I quickly realized that my hubris had gotten the better of me once the sweat began to pour down my cheeks - if you like spice this place is nice. Based on the owners recommendation we each ordered Chang beer which, in my opinion beat out the more common Singha - an extra push from a wonderful meal to an infallible one. The restaurant suffers only from a rather innocuous location, and equally unassuming exterior - but that cannot be attributed to the effort and spirit of the owners, but rather a fitting indication that it doesn't take a fancy investor or vain taste to create a truly wonderful dining experience. I was very disappointed with my Chicken Satay. I placed an 'order to take out' from Simply Thai. There was about five customers who had already placed orders, ahead of mine. I ordered The Chicken Satay which is traditionally char-broiled over an open flame, and has the char-broiled' grill marks. I also ordered The Mango with Sticky Rice and coconut milk sauce with sesame seeds. It was only about three minutes later when the receptionist/waitress handed me my order and I provided her with my credit card. I remarked, "That sure was quick!" As I was driving to my destination, I could not resist taking a bite of 'The Chicken Satay' and was immediately disappointed. It had no char-grilled markings, no coconut curry sauce, and it was tough. It tasted as though the staff had pre-cooked The Chicken Satay and put it in a microwave to quickly heat it up again. I did immediately call and spoke with the manager who apologized and told me that he would refund my money for The Chicken Satay. My suggestion would be to please check your order before you leave. read more
