I was in Lincoln today taking care of some business, and this place was right next to where I had parked my car. So, I decided to check it out. It is a nice space, and they are doing a good job of keeping the tables distanced. I was greeted right away, and taken to my seat. I decided to have the Black German. Hot pastrami, sauerkraut, melted swiss cheese, on dark rye. It normally comes with mayo, but I asked them to swap out the mayo with thousand island dressing, and pretty much make it a reuben. The sandwich was delicious, except for a couple of small things. I wish they could have used a little bit more dressing, and the pastrami was pretty much cold in the middle. I didn't send it back, because it was still good, and I had to get going. The sandwich also comes with your choice of potato salad, macaroni salad, or a side salad. I had the side salad with a delicious honey mustard dressing. In addition to the lettuce, it also came with cheese, sunflower seeds, and alfalfa sprouts. Love this little café. We were in Lincoln visiting the area and stumbled on this café in downtown Lincoln, located in a historic building. We were seated on the back patio. Mr. B was in need of coffee as we had been driving for several hours. The coffee was great and the saying on the mugs puts a smile on your face, see photos. We ordered the Missy Melt to split with a side of potato salad. The sandwich was big, so we were glad we split it. The sandwich has turkey, black forest ham with melted swiss and American cheese on dark rye. We added avocado. The sandwich was delicious. The cheese was perfectly melted, the avocado fresh and creamy. The turkey and ham was high quality and so fresh. The potato salad was creamy and fresh. We loved this place. A great little cafe in downtown Lincoln, and well worth a stop for breakfast or lunch. The place definitely has charm, and that old Gold Country atmosphere. Brick walls, heavy wood detailing and memorabilia prevails. From what I ate, and the reviews, I'd say what they have beyond atmosphere is good food. We came for breakfast and sat in the back courtyard. Not exactly a garden wonderland yet comfortable enough. Your surrounded by back of store commerical establishments, a large parking lot, and a park off to one side. There's good enough comfortable seating indoors, nicely segmented front to back from it just being one large room. Plus, some outdoor dining on the sidewalk out front. I had a breakfast sandwich and it was delcious! You get to customize it as you like with a choice of bread, meat and cheese. I had mine with sourdough, sausage and swiss cheese, and it was perfect. Nicely toasted the bread was wholesome, lots of perfectly cooked egg, with just a bit of soft yolk, delicious sausage and lots of melted cheese. It was quite filling and satisfying. Plus, the cost is reasonable for the quality. I washed it down with a latte, that was offered hot or cold. A big mug with frothy coffee did hit the mark. Service was very friendly and accommodating. So this place is not fancy inside at all, and needs new chairs or the chairs painted. Please do not let the decor fool you, as the food was delicious! This restaurant was recommended to me the last time I was in Lincoln. Today I drove from my town 25 minutes each way to finally check it out for myself. The Ranch dressing was fabulous, the ice tea came in a huge jug, the blackberry pie was yummy. It is rare I give a restaurant 5 stars. Quant little place AND VERY POPULAR. Went there with brother; my first time. I ordered a tuna melt with fries and iced tea with mint. Brother ordered the steak sandwich and fries and a black iced tea. To go, I ordered a slice of carrot cake and a mixed berry pie. My tuna melt was OK. The fries were crispy and delicious. But my brother's steak sandwich was the BOMB! He even gave me a bite's worth and OMG! The steak was oh so tender and flavorable. I know what I'm ordering next time for sure. I love Simple Pleasures. I've enjoyed eating on the patio as well as gotten the $40 pre-made dinner delivered, both are delightful. The delivery meals are amazing, $40 for a main and 2 sides that feed a family of 4-6. I especially love the meatloaf meal. I enjoy stopping in for breakfast on the street, or on the back patio, they have tents set up with open sides. They have the most amazing desserts. I love the 7-layer best, but literally, everything is delicious! One of the nicest parts is the kids meals for an affordable few bucks. We used Simple Pleasure's Catering for my daughter's wedding in June at the Willow Ballroom. She was one of five excellent Caterer's we were allowed to choose. Diana and her crew have earned that Honor as a result of their consistently excellent service and food. In addition, we hired Simple Pleasure's to be our "Day of Coordinator" and also to hang white papel picado streamers at the venue. About the food, "...AMAZING!!" We booked Simple Pleasures because Diana seemed to understand exactly what we were looking for in a Caterer. We knew the food would be awesome because of all the wonderful reviews. When we went for the tasting, Diana hosted eight of us (parents/bride/groom/Wedding Planner) to a delicious dinner. But, the best news is - the food was just as delicious on the day of the wedding! All the guests said they had a terrific meal. Everything came out warm/tasty/displayed beautifully and served by the nicest staff. In case you don't know, a Wedding Caterer does so much more than prepare the food... the Catering Team takes care of all your rentals, linens and much of the wedding display/decor. The "event" was executed flawlessly! They even went above and beyond to help care for some of the floral that got a little tired before the Reception started. The guests had no idea... everything just looked magical. Day of Coordinator Services: Diana, the owner assigned two very capable women to attend to the couple's every need. Rebecca was at my daughter's side the entire day. She handled every detail swiftly and professionally, like ensuring my daughter's dress that ripped when she sat down in the car was repaired, "on the spot." My daughter said out loud to her new husband, "I'm not even going to cry because I know Rebecca will fix it." In addition to Rebecca, that I got to spend more time with, our Wedding Coordinator and my daughter want to ensure I mention Anna as well. Anna was on top of her game and was very instrumental in the overall success of the Wedding. I don't want to forget to mention that all the staff were so personable and accommodating. I can't believe I hadn't written a review for Simple Pleasures yet...I have been here so many times. I think based on what you can see on other people's reviews if you are in the Lincoln area this is a must stop. My suggestion is slow down take some time to enjoy this place. Your not going to get in/out in 15 minutes if this is what you are looking for go to Subway or Togo's...everything in here is homemade and has that extra little something that makes this place delicious. The service and laid back environment is really what is the added bonus for me. If you are in a hurry do what I do and order your food ahead of time and either take it to go or just eat it there... My favorite dishes here are the Nutty Irishman with chicken added and the Taco Salad with Avocado and Chicken. The best part of this dish is the Frito's on top that gives it that extra...HMMMM and Yum and reminder of childhood.
