Nothing makes a great party if you don't serve good food!!! We hired Maru's kitchen to make this happen for us. David is easy going and will come up with a great menu to fulfil your needs. We had a house full of Puerto Ricianos for this event, mind you, that's alot of people to please. MARU'S Kitchen came through!!! We were having a birthday lunch for our boss and didn't want the same food that we always order pizza, mexican, sandwiches ect.. so after yelping and Google catering in the East Bay we came across Marus Kitchen. We were hesitant to try it at first but after reading reviews on Yelp we decided to give it a try. We needed special food accommodations since some of us don't eat specific types of meat and Marus Kitchen was able to make the accommodations. The food's authentic homemade flavor had everyone thinking it was cooked up in our very own kitchen. *** I first called David when I decided to throw a last minute surprise party for my partner who is Puerto Rican and is always searching for Pasteles and his favorite Arroz con Gandules. Unfortunately the season for Pasteles had just ended but luckily David had set aside a dozen for himself and was willing to let me have them for my party. From the very first call up to the arrival of the food David kept in close contact with me as I had to adjust the menu a few times, and came all the way out to antioch to personally deliver the food. We used Marus catering for our wedding. We worked with her son David. He was very easy to work with and attempted to accommodate us as best he could. My husband is from the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, and I have spent a large portion of the past 8 years there as well. When having a wedding stateside we wanted to bring a taste of Costa Rica to Oakland. Maru made as close to a "casado" (A typical plate in Costa Rica) as possible. While the flavors were different, it was all still delicious and we would use them again. The plantains went so fast that we were not able to have any, and David and Maru noticed this, and offered to make us a plate and deliver it post wedding. I recently had David and his family cater a lunch for a client in the Oakland area. Arranging it all from Orange County, Ca was a breeze. When we flew in for the lunch, everything was underway when we got there. David took care of everything food and drinks to set up of all the tables and clean up. They even put fresh flowers out. I hired Maru's kitchen to cater my daughters 1st birthday and couldn't have been more happier! They were very punctual, the food was phenomenal and all my guests (roughly 100) were happy and full...lol. David pretty much took care of all the set up, cleaned up afterwards, and made it as easy as can be for me and my wife to enjoy our little girls special day without having to go back and forth from a kitchen or bbq grill. Okay folks, THIS IS THE REAL DEAL! I have been missing good pasteles ever since The Pastele Factory in Hayward skipped town and moved to Turlock. My cousin was getting married near Turlock so I was excited too that I could finally get my pastele fix. Not so, TPF has gone out of business down there too :-/ So I started my search online figuring there had to be someone in The Bay making pasteles for sale. I was fortunate to stumble across Maru's Kitchen who has not just meh, average pasteles but rather DARN GOOD PASTELES for sale. I'm talking THE BOMB! I ordered the spicy traditional pork pasteles and I would describe them as a perfectly spiced symphony of flavors and they weren't skimpy either. I also sampled their TASTY chicken and sausage empanadas. Good empanadas start with a tender yet flaky crust and these big boys definitely had that covered. I had them delivered and found David to be genuinely friendly and professional. If you are considering ordering from Maru's for your special occasion, do it. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED. read more
