The food was okay. We had a gyro and a gyro bowl. The servings were plentiful, the sauces were good, and the time between ordering and receiving our food was excellent. The building apparently has great acoustics. We were unable to carry on a conversation for the overly loud and obnoxious conversations being had in the service area. One voice in particular echoed off the walls and ceiling and made it impossible to enjoy a peaceful meal. We heard everything from F bombs to assholes. We both nearly jumped out of our seats at one particularly unexpected and incredibly loud outburst. But hey, some people are just loud and easily excitable. We might have been a little more willing to overlook all that noise had there not been a nasty bar rag sitting underneath where the meat is cut off the spit. The meat was raked onto the rag as it was being cut, then unceremoniously picked up and thrown onto the grill. By the time we saw that we were both almost finished with our meals. As much as we enjoy Mediterranean food, and as few choices as we have locally, we decided firmly that we'll never go back there. read more

I want to preface my review with the fact I no longer stay in Columbus. It's important because something might be subpar nationwide, but great locally. I'm glad to see more variety of food selections here since I've graduated (many years ago). That being said, I ordered to-go the bang bang shrimp, 2 NY style gyros for me and the hubby (He's from NY), side of rice and hummus. The food overall was OK. The gyro meat was OK. The hummus was OK. The rice was slightly better than average, probably my favorite thing. My husband was not impressed. He thought the food was very subpar and didn't understand the extremely high rating. I personally think he's being a little overly critical, but he's also a New Yorker. I think the food is decent, but only for the area. So why am I rating it 2 stars? Well for one, they forgot my bang bang shrimp, and almost forgot my rice had I not asked them to check. It left me pretty inconvenienced as that was for an elderly picky eater who will not eat beef, or hummus. And two, the pricing is inconsistent and doesn't make sense. It was advertised to order online to save 10%. I ordered online and paid the same price. I also find it weird I would pay 2 dollars for an extra patty, but $4+ dollars for extra rice? The prices for extra sauce is almost a dollar. And third, my food was not fast at all. I ordered online and was given a 10 minute ready time. I got there 20 minutes later, there were still working on my order. I feel I'm being nitpicky, but I had much higher expectations given the unusually high reviews. We tried the lamb/beef gyros and the loaded fries and both were delicious! The fries were battered and fried to perfection and then topped with generous amounts of Giro meat, feta cheese, red, onions, lettuce, and tomatoes, and topped with tzatziki sauce. The beef Gyro was simply perfect. I would appreciate a bit more meat to balance with all the other toppings inside, but this gyro is undoubtedly the best I've ever tasted--truly perfection. From now on, it will be a regular stop just for that. The chicken Shawarma served over rice is well-portioned, though it leans a bit heavy on either the nutmeg or cinnamon for my liking, while my husband seemed to really enjoy it. The Smashburger was exceptional. Personally, I would prefer a little more cheese, but it was cooked to perfection. The loaded fries are absolutely fantastic, but considering the extra charge, they should have more meat on them. The beef is seasoned just right. The chicken burger is average--nothing special to rave about or order again, just a basic chicken filet that was overcooked. The fries on their own are well-seasoned and cooked perfectly; they hardly need anything else. The service was incredibly fast. They prepare your order right in front of you, behind the glass. The establishment is very clean, with bright colors that are really inviting. You have two options for ordering: either in person or through a large tablet, which I find very convenient as I can see pictures. A couple of downsides are the sides; there are only fries available, and it doesn't specify the differences between them. My wife and I ate here for the first time. When we went to the counter a girl in a bucket hat was there but did not greet us so we put our order in the Kiosk. When our burgers came mine had the red sauce which I think was my mistake. I took it to the front and asked if I could get one without the sauce. The young lady with the bucket hat said sure pay me for another burger then luckily someone in the kitchen said they would take care of it. When my order came up the same young lady brought out the food with great attitude and let us know they would never do that again and made it sound like we were stealing the food. I LOVED the Lamb Gyro! SOOOOO DELICIOUS!!! I wonder though, is the way this is made, closer to the Turkish or Lebanese Doner, or closer to the Greek Gyro? I know they're "similar" in a few ways, but the way this came reminded me a little more of the Turkish Halal Doner. I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to have a properly authentic Turkish Doner Kebap shop here Columbus, GA or Phenix City, AL. This Gyro shop is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME as is too, don't get me wrong. When I want a Gyro, I WANT A GYRO, and this place IS ABSOLUTELY delicious!!! 110%!!! What I mean is I'd ALSO love to have an authentic Turkish and/or Lebanese Doner Kebap shop here, AS WELL AS, the Gyro place. Or even a place that sold BOTH, side by side. That's all I'm saying there. Now, THE FOOD WAS EPICALLY DELICIOUS. The Lamb Gyro, absolutely TOP NOTCH. The Lebanese style Baklava; or Baklawa as some folks are spelling it to differentiate, and I think I'll start doing to make it easier to understand; was good, but not... not good enough. It was missing something. I LOOOOVE a good gooey, thick, heavy, honey and butter soaked, spiced, cinammony GREEK Baklava. I also know that a large part of Greece and more modern Greek Culture is Christian based, and the Cuisine has grown through the centuries to reflect that culture as it is. I also LOOOOVE Good Light, Crispy, Flaky, FLORAL Lebanese Baklawa. I know that Rose Water Simple Syrup and Orange Blossom Simple Syrup are used, in place of Honey and Butter, as Lebanon and Turkey are both primarily Muslim based cultures, and Butter and Honey used together, is a right royal pain in the keester to keep Halal, unless you use Certified Halal Pure Butter and Pure Honey; and trying to source those in AMERICA, is going to be heeeeinously expensive and hard to come by. Thus, I understand why the ancient cultures diverged in their uses of flavorings, because ancient honey and butter would NOT be easy to make Halal, so Rose and Orange Blossom Simple Syrups would be one of the best alternatives, and they made it their own thing back then. Today, it would be easier, with technology, but probably no less expensive, relative economically. What I'm saying is this: Did ya'll forget the Rose or Orange Blossom Simple Syrup in this batch I had? Because I could not taste it. :-/ I know the folks that owned the place when it was the Pita [Something] branded restautant are Lebanese folks, and their cooking is DELICIOUS!!! And I think all they really did was close their 2nd store and rebrand, and change their menu a little. I hope it's the same folks. :-) If it is, I know WHY ya'll would use not honey and butter but floral syrup, and I know WHY ya'll might tone things back for pathetically weak "American Palates"... but PLEASE don't. Keep the Floral Syrup, make it authentic, and if you are making Delicious Lebanese Cuisine, but hiding it behind a Greek label... ... don't. You're in a town next to one of THE largest Army bases in the world. We LOVE foreign food in The Military. We eat MRE's. You CANNOT offend our palates. Make it as authentic as you possibly can. Found this great little place on Yelp. According to their dynamic manager Superman, aka Ali, this is the first brick and motor location for this New York City based restaurant chain. This location has been opened about a month and a half, and the rest of the stores are food trucks in New York. Additional brick and mortar locations are planned. We placed our order which included a pistachio baklava dessert. Ali swapped out what was in the cooler with a container from behind the counter of baklava that was made last night. We are taking that and an order of falafel to go, will update this review accordingly. Before our order arrives, Superman brought out a sampler of what he said was the best menu items. The Chicken Shawarma Wrap was delicious. Great spices, a little firm crunch from the pickle, tasty sauces. We gobbled it up before a Yelp review came to mind, thus no pic. On to mains... The Gyro Salad was very fresh, nothing premade, and larger than expected. Gyro meat was properly seasoned and the 3 sauces (Greek dressing, tzatziki, house sauce) that were requested and delivered on the side were excellent. The Lovely Bride rates it in her Top 5 of Greek Salads (she's eaten thousands of those). Your more carnivorous author's Big NY Gyro and fries w/house sauce was consistent with the quality of the visit. Top 3 gyro for me, and the house sauce on the fries was unexpectedly excellent. Restaurant was clean with good indoor/outdoor seating space. Bathrooms were clean and fully stocked. Cost was reasonable with more than ample portions. Remember the slogan wheres the beef? That's what you get with the "under new management" Simple Gyro. Unfortunately there's plenty of onions, tomatoes and sauce but NO MEAT and very small.
