This is one of the coolest restaurants I have been to. The food is phenomenal And you can't beat the views. We went over lunch and were lucky to snag a table without a reservation. There was a small wait, but luckily time passes quick there with the outdoor views, the glass blown gift shop, and the live glass blowing downstairs. You can find plenty to do to entertain yourself while waiting. Dinner would require a reservation, however. If I'm ever back in this area, i would definitely return here. read more

Very classy place, I literally want my entire house decorated with everything by Simon pierce when we move into a bigger place. It's so outrageously beautiful I can't wait!! We were stunned at how heavy the glasses were the beautiful craftsmanship! There's one lamp in particular they said they make very few per year because only 3 glass blowers can actually make them and it takes so much time because they're so intricate and so much detail goes into them. I have my eye on it! The bartender said you could slam the glass against a wall and it won't do anything to the glasses. The restaurant was beautiful, so is the bar are, the bar area is rustic but the lighting is just stunning. There's no other words. I wanted everything in the store. So did my hubby. This is a special occasion place. Nicely appointed and beautiful location. You can tour the very expensive (!!) gift shop of glass. We ate dinner. We started with a nice Italian Prosecco served in their lovely champagne flutes ($85 each). I had a nice salad with goat cheese to start. He had cod with a yummy wasabi/radish coating over mashed potatoes. I had a lovely brined chicken dish w sweet potato purée and a squash/kale/cranberry side. We finished with absolutely delicious apple spice cake with ice cream. Service was good. I liked it but didn't love it although, candidly, can't tell you why. read more

My husband and I were absolutely delighted that we got to go here while we were on vacation. The hostess was very gracious and allowed us to come at 5:30 PM, sitting us by the beautiful window that had the Watermill next to it. We absolutely love the ambiance of the restaurant and would give that a five (5). We, however, were not thrilled with the taste of our food and that was disappointing to us. My husband got the Pork Porterhouse and said it was dry and would give it a three (3). I ordered the Wagyu Beef and was looking for a savory meal, however, I did not enjoy the sauce they put on it at all. I shared some with my husbandand he said for this particular type of meat It was not as tender as he expected it to be. We each ordered soup, him getting the squash/pumpkin soup and he would give it a five and I ordered the cheese soup, however, it did not taste that fabulous to me. A group of five went here recently for a Sunday brunch. A few of us had appetizers, and a few of us had drinks, and after the entrées we split a some desserts. In my view, everything I tasted was completely mediocre. Not at all at the level that it has been in the past. And when the bill came, with tax and tip, it ended up costing us $70 per person. Give me a break! You cannot serve mediocre food, and expect people to pay top dollar for it! read more

I had palpitations as soon as we walked in, due to the quantities of very expensive glass objects everywhere! We browsed for a bit before heading to the restaurant for lunch. The food is very high end and the service is as well. After eating, we went downstairs to watch the glass blowing operations. The people working were not at all bothered by questions, and it was really neat to see the objects available for sale upstairs come to life. The building is situated on a river and there is a gorgeous waterfall right outside. After looking through their store and checking out the glass blowers on the lower level, we went into the restaurant for a wonderful meal. The staff were all young, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. The Soup du Jour was a thick and tasty Gazpacho. The Crispy Duck Confit with Thumbelina carrots, frisee, roasted cipollini onion, chevre and mustard jus was surprisingly large as well as delicious. For Entrees we had the Spiced Lamb Short Rib with sweet corn & thyme polenta and the Crisp Roast Duckling, with currant, almond and grilled red onion tabbouleh and spiced mango chutney. Both were beautifully presented as well as delicious. With 2 drinks, the bill, before tip, came to around $115. A place you should definitely check out. read more

Update: My husband and I had dinner at SP again last week. The cheddar soup was amazing. I had the short ribs and they were very good, and my husband enjoyed the halibut. We split a maple tart for dessert and it was delicious. Our server was great. A nice evening - only wish I had requested sitting on the patio. Original: I have been wanting to eat here for a few years but never had the time on previous trips. We sat on the patio and could hear the waterfall which was very nice. My friend had the cheddar soup which I tried - it was outstanding and I almost ordered another one. My husband had the scallop appetizer which was also good. For dinner I had the sirloin which was good but not outstanding. My husband and friend had the duck which they both said was very good. For dessert I had the maple creme brûlée which was fabulous and my husband and our friend had the almond tart which they both really liked. High Quality hand-blown glass (quite expensive) but truly unique and classy! I love my glass bowl which I keep fruit in on my kitchen counter! I also have been here for lunch in the beautiful cafe that overlooks the river and utilizes all of their hand blown stemware, plates, etc. The lamburger that I ordered was "the best" that I have ever had....moist and juicy and on a lovely artisan roll. Super disappointed in the reservation situation. We tried to get a lunch reservation starting 10 days ago and the website was being updated not allowing an online reservation. We called and left a message but it was never returned. The voicemail also referred us to the website for reservations, so we were just in a loop. Finally, we were able to speak to a staff person yesterday who was not overly friendly nor apologetic when she told us that lunch was full and they were short staffed. Knowing of the horrific flooding in Vermont in the last few weeks, I was hesitant to leave this review but hoping this can be a learning lesson for the restaurant to not leave customers hanging ... maybe more online communication would be helpful, but still super disappointed to be missing a great lunch today. read more

One of our favorites in the area. Always a great meal! It did take the server a bit to find our table at the get go, but once she did she was very nice. A lovely wine list which includes a sparkling rose that is very worth trying. They had a special scallop app with a cauliflower purée and chutney that was divine. The arugula salad however was underdressed. The other dinners and apps are fine, and the chocolate cake dessert hit the spot. Not inexpensive but for the most part worth every bite. I'm not sure there's a more picturesque or classy venue in this area. Have eaten a couple times here and the food has been fresh and tasty--but the atmosphere, the beautiful glassware, that's what's really amazing. Today was there for a brunch reception--so not the same as sit down--but the roasted vegetables, the Vermont cheddar soup, the quiche with a crunchy cheddar top, were just superb, as were the apple cake, cinnamon crumb cake and biscuits. The best part though? Going downstairs to watch glassblowing--such an excellent way to spend a rainy afternoon. What can I say! I've been to the Quechee area 4 times in the last 12 years and each visit is always enhanced by a meal at Simon Pearce. It's become a tradition - the state of mind whilst on top of the waterfall is pure bliss. The delicious steak meal is the icing on the cake in this order experience. Equally e thrilling is the shop and the glass blowing demo. Blowers are always friendly and able to answer many visitors' questions. Of course one cannot leave without getting a fine example of the its craftsmanship and enduring legacy. The starfish collection has made me smile every time I see it on my coffee while the inscribed vase for hydrangeas have graced my dining room for many summers. I just stumbled across this and realized I do not have a review for one of my favorite places to dine in the Quechee/Woodstock region and that needs to change. Simon Pearce was voted one of the most romantic restaurants in America and table #5 was voted the most romantic table in Vermont. It's located right over the waterfall and covered bridge. Ask for it if it's a special occasion! We sat here for our anni one year and it was perfection! The menu is carefully created and filled with locally sourced, organic ingredients. It even states next to each dish where exactly the ingredients are from! I absolutely LOVE this! There's something for everyone from fish, seafood, pork, duck, lamb, beef and pastas. There's always a few excellent veg options. Vegan is a tad more difficult but they do accommodate when possible, just ask! If I had to say one item you must try it's definitely the classic Vermont Cheddar Soup! We usually find ourselves here for dinner but they offer brunch and lunch also! Choose from casual local cheese plates to house granola, chickpea croquettes to sweet French toasts, to lettuce wraps and burgers, to name a few. I can't imagine leaving here disappointed with any choice, but I say lean towards local flavors, perhaps step out of your comfort zone a bit. They have some great hard crafted cocktails with unique ingredients! The wine list is on the smaller side, but is really pretty great!! Appropriately priced bottles or glasses, from rustic reds to full bodies, light bodied to a few tasty champs, rose' to crisp whites and Chardonnay. Their wine never disappoints with dinner! The draft beer is also pretty great. They mostly offer local gems which is definitely the way to go in this area! Best beers up this way! Maple and spicy! Yum! Local ciders too! The service is top notch, always. The staff knows what they're doing. Do not miss a meal here if you really would like an authentic local taste! Quite a picturesque place to eat.. We got a window waterfront view while we ate dinner. The restaurant is attached to their glasswork retail store where it seemed like nothing was less than $25. I kind of thought all the glass pieces were waaay overpriced but they were all "hand blown" justifying the prices somehow. They even have the master glass dudes making their overpriced wares downstairs for everyone to see. Anyhoo, on to the food.. The Clam Chowder was excellent.. it had a strong clam flavor permeating throughout the soup which is how I tend to judge clam chowders. Holy Jesus the Mediterranean Lamb Burger was sooooo good! I had it cooked medium rare which turned out to be just right. The Lamb flavor combined with the mediterranean spices was PERFECT. I wanted to like this place based on the location and reviews, however the timing of the meal with our wine pairing was poorly executed. We let our server know we were having 3 courses and the wines ( from that extensive list) to compliment our meal. While it was an hour on appetizers (which I am not complaining , know it's a slow meal) the main entree wine was not served with our dinner- which is a big no no for a place Wine Spectator (which we read) recommends. We even reminded the server ... twice. The place did not seem overly busy, but just note despite our communication on the food/ wine servings and that this is a pricey restaurant and it was our anniversary, we were not overly impressed. My husband's horseradish cod was very good, my chicken had undercooked sweet potatoes which I thought were squash, as their flavor was washed due to being undercooked. This place gets busy quickly so if you don't have reservations I'd recommend coming right when it opens, which we did for brunch and snagged a spectacular table overlooking the water. The menu offers plenty of indulgent choices. We started with the beignets. Excellent choice. Hot, sweet and served with apple butter and a dipping sauce. I had the famed Vermont cheddar soup and kale & apple salad (with a few sausage links on the side, no salad is complete without meat). The cheddar soup was hot, luxurious, and subtle. The kale salad was fresh, and served with a sweet apple vinaigrette. My husband ordered the country fried steak. Amazing. The outside was crisp and flavorful. The hash is was served with was incredible. Major winner all the way around. Downstairs you can watch them do some glassmaking and snap a selfie off the lower level right in front on the waterfall so bring your selfie stick. read more

My husband and I have been here several times over the past few years and the restaurant has seen better days. The wait times are insane, even at 2pm, I guess that's what happens when word gets out. It's not a huge deal because you can busy yourself in the shop and workshop on the lower level but it is a pain when you're told the wait is 30 min and it turns out to be close to an hour. Also, the food and service have definitely gone downhill. The service is slow and inattentive, and it seems like there are only a handful of waitstaff working at a time. The food prices have gone up while portion size has gone down. Disappointing. I've walked out hungry on our last few visits. We'll likely keep coming here because it's part of the experience of Simon Pearce and we've had a lot of good memories here. Also because we're huge fans of the Simon Pearce catalog and love picking up a few pieces every year. I am literally pained writing this review. The idyllic pictures of Simon Pearce perched atop the waterfall with the sun setting in the background combined with stellar reviews convinced me to make the trek from MA to VT. Perhaps my expectations were too high or perhaps the regular chef was on vacation for Memorial Day because i was utterly underwhelmed. The meal started with bread, which was pretty good (the baguette - the second bread was a bit too dry for me). We then moved on to the Carrot Soup and Salad. I enjoyed the soup but my girlfriend couldn't finish her salad saying the components didn't meld well together. The main course was next. I ordered the Petite Filet and Crabcake and Jen ordred the Sirloin with a red wine reduction. First, the purported Red Wine reduction tasted like a mix of Teriyaki and Hoisin sauce. I'll admit it was tasty but not as described and I'll bet dollars to donuts it was not a red wine reduction. The steak was also pre-cut which I know is a culinary sin and am fairly certain is a moral sin as well. My petitie filet tasted like an inferior cut of beef without any seasoning. Since it was the special and the most expensive entree I expected more. The crabcake was ok. I could only eat about 70% before stopping. may sound like a lot but it was a very small filet and crabcake. Overall, the food presentation left something to be desired. My soup had a lump of Dill atop it and the Sirloin was littered with toppings which were all covered in the sauce losing all their distinct flavor. My standard for this type of locally grown organic restaurant is Lumiere in West Newton which was superior to this in every way - beyond the beautiful vistas Simon Pierce offered. I'll hope this was just an off night and the restaurant usually offers better fare but when a chain restaurant like Firefly's makes a better meal, you know you're in trouble. read more

We made a reservation for 5:30 pm, which is when the restaurant opens, so we were able to check in early and be the first to pick our seat. Naturally we chose the best seat in the house: the corner 2-chair table overlooking the water and waterfall. The view was truly exceptional and we were lucky to have experienced it in the early fall before it got to cold. The service was quick, polite and attentive. They also offered great suggestions for drinks, apps and food. The food was very tasty and well crafted but the glassware was truly the cherry on top of the experience. Before eating at the restaurant I wasn't convinced that Simon Pearce's glass was worth the price but after drinking from the glassware I totally understand the craze. High quality ! OK, this place is really cool. It's a glass blowing factory that has a very nice retail store and a very nice eating area. Maria and I sat by the window overlooking the covered bridge. It was a great view. Down by the bridge we could see people swinging on a rope into the river. Very cool. It was also very entertaining. The food was good the service was good and the view is great. My husband took me to Simon Pearce with another couple for dinner for my birthday. We had a beautiful table overlooking the River. We had a 5:30 reservation and it was a beautiful evening. Looking at the menu it certainly is on the pricey side. I was surprised that they no longer offer complementary bread and butter. You have to order it off the menu. That surprised me considering the price of the food. We had the cod, duck, chicken and a tuna salad. Everyone raved about their choice of items. About half way through our very quiet meal, a group of 7 young women came in. They were very loud, to the point where it became difficult for my party of 4 to even hear each other. My husband spoke to both the waitress and the manager but nothing was done. On our way out, I spoke to the manager who said that we were in the quietest part of the restaurant. The restaurant was not full and there were no other large parties. When I go out for a very expensive dinner, I don't like to feel like I'm eating in a college cafeteria. I like a quiet restaurant. We have been coming here for 9 years on the day after Thanksgiving. The food was initially quite good. It has gone downhill. The service has always been excellent but the hosts/managers of the restaurant are, shall we say, ungracious. The system of no reservations is annoying, but in the case of a party of 10, it is downright impractical. So, this year we got there at 11, even though the restaurant doesn't open until 11:30. And everyone - everyone- crowding the place was seated except for us, including my mother on a respirator with a rollator. Nice optics. We were told there was a 45 minute wait. Not worth it. I have hated coming here for years. I thought it was expensive and the food was mediocre. And the managers are just rude or arrogant or something unacceptable. My 79 year old mother was very loyal. Loyal customers should be rewarded with loyalty. They are not here. Finally, everyone else in my family is in agreement. We will not be coming back. Oh yeah, and we aren't going to spend the usual thousands of dollars in the store. Oops! read more

I was visiting from NYC and this was definitely my favorite restaurant in Vermont. It's hidden in their Simon Pearce glass shop. I ordered the cheese plate, sesame chicken, and salmon. I love salmon but I'm always skeptical about ordering it because I'm extremely picky at how I like my salmon to be cooked (minus the fishiness). The salmon was cooked to perfection (medium rare and done right)! I love the sauce and the sweet potatoes. It added great acidity/texture to the fish. Originally I ordered chicken and waffles but I switched last minute and they were able to accommodate. I'm so glad they did because I really enjoyed it. My boyfriend ordered sesame chicken which came with a side of cold noodles. It was delicious as well. The chicken was white meat but it was super tender and juicy. I definitely ate half of his food, whoops. Cheese plate was exceptional. I usually don't eat bread but their square bread/biscuit was super fluffy and soft. Great food in a breathtaking location. Its a seasonal menu and I've never had anything I didn't like. Be prepared for American cuisine with fresh ingredients and bold flavors. The soups and meat entrees are particularly good. I went to many catered events there, for drug rep dinners, and even in that mass produced setting everything was delicious. Upstairs, above the dining area, are the quarters of where the owners used to live. It's now a reception area and there's a beautiful patio outside of it where you can see the river and eat canapes and drink wine. I don't know who you have to sleep with to get up there if you aren't with a group who has reserved the space, but sneak up if you can. I used to take out of town guests here for lunch; it's much less expensive than dinner and you still get the great food. Be prepared to wait a long time if you don't get there early. If you have to wait you can always browse the shop. I always came here for my birthday and special occasions. It's really worth it. read more

I hate to disappoint, but save your money. The ONLY saving grace of this restaurant is the view. And you can enjoy that without booking weeks in advance and still having to wait in line so that you can get one of the few tables near the window. The food was definitely sub par. My table of four tried the duck, short rib, steak and pork chop. All were overcooked and lacked flavor (except maybe the short rib which was decently tender). The salads were a big disappointment as was the cheddar soup. You'd think at least they'd get the right in Vermont. To top it off, all of the waitstaff had chips on their shoulders. I don't appreciate attitude anytime, but especially not when I'm paying for it. Simon Pearce is worth a stop if you've driven up to leaf peep or hike the Quechee Gorge - it's fun to see the glass blowing workshop and admire the view out back. But eat elsewhere! read more
