Our 1 month old daughter passed away and we knew we wanted some memorial art made from her ashes. We found Terrapin on Google, and were happy that it was a local business. We got a little tour of the studio, they were professional, and courteous. They kept the idea of "preserving the chain of custody" very present, which was extremely important to us. We did not want to have to mail anything anywhere. The pieces we received were very nice, we got 3 suncatchers and 2 adder stone pendants. Very impressed with the quality, the glass is very dense and heavy it feels good. I'd recommend this business to anyone looking for custom glass art and a respectful, local business for memorial art services. We are VERY happy with what we got, but if I had to give any feedback to this business it would be: Picking up the finished products was a bit of a let down. We had to make an appointment and they left the glass outside in a lockbox. An old COVID era policy. It would have been nice to actually thank them for the work, as this was a very emotional, connected process for us. We had to make appointments to drop off, and pick up. And to be honest my wife didn't love the idea of "our daughter being left in a box outside". I'm really not trying to sound overly critical, I just want the business to know this is our feedback on the matter. Overall we TOTALLY RECOMMEND this business. The finished products are really nice, and the quality is really something that's offered us a lot in the way of being able to continue to love and hold our daughter. I'd give the products a 5/5 based on everything, but I'm gunna give them a 4/5 overall because of the dated policies. read more

Yes. Yes, the class prices are very reasonable. Yes, it's well run and organized, even with a big group. Yes, it's a unique experience that was universally enjoyed by our span from teenage to 70. Planned a bachelorette activity here and had a great time! Registering was easy, showed up a little late but they ushered us right in, through the video demo and we were right in there handling hot glass! The staff was super upbeat which made a huge difference in our 2 hour time slot. We were able to serve some snacks and change clothes in their facility for the next stage of our adventure (Cathedral of the Pines and Monadnock Inn for dinner- also add these to your list). They have a wide variety of items for sale which make lovely gifts for special occasions. The other reviews are correct that there's no space for nonsense here- but hello, this can be dangerous! Attention all Yelpers, you really want to give this place a try. There is a store here if you are shopping for nice handmade glass items like bowls, vases, trinkets, etc. But the terrific aspect of Terrapin is that they offer classes in glass blowing and torch work. We took the Glassblowing 101 class, which was 2 hours long, 10 people in the class, and you get to make 4 items, a clear flower, a colored flower, a paperweight, and an ornament. It was unlike anything we have ever done before, and it was utterly fascinating. The glass is over 2000 degrees and glows with this amazing sunset orange. Each object you make gives you the skills and confidence to do the next piece. The course is very well thought out, and the staff are highly focused on safety. Since you cannot bring your priceless creations home with you until they cool for a couple of days, we elected to return for 1 hour of individual instruction, and that was even better than the first class. The staff is very nice and helpful, although they get very businesslike when they are teaching people how to handle the glass. Make sure you are dressed properly and well hydrated. It is hot when you are the person handling the glass. They also offer classes in torch work where you get to make marbles, pendants, and cute little objects. We have not done this class yet, but plan to try it when we return to pick up our last set of creations! If you are looking for an experience for a couple or a gift, this is an extraordinary opportunity. You will never forget it, and you will be so proud when you are done. read more

This was a neat experience for a girls night. Very informative and you get an inkling of what is involved in the craft. If you are thinking it's high energy and fun, leave your giggles at the door. As soon as we sat down we reverted back to grade school, as, understandably, Dom was not going to allow any silliness on our part. There are very strict rules, so much so that I felt I would need to pass a note to speak with my friend 3 seats down. I realize the importance of respecting how dangerous not following the rules would be, but...maybe because she had done this speil numerous times that day, it felt as though we were an annoyance. The guy helping was cheerful and nice though, and made you feel like you weren't bothering him. I believe we all adhered to the proper rules of conduct and do have a great memory to reflect on. A friend of mine and I just took the intro to glass blowing class and it was awesome! Our instructors Dominique and Sadie were friendly, patient and very knowledgeable. They offered enough guidance to ensure quality results of the projects yet gave the students enough freedom to really get to know the feel of working with molten glass. One word of advice...the equipment used to make glass-blowing projects is very hot so make sure to follow their guidelines about how to prepare as far as clothing and bringing water. For the price, I would highly recommend this class to anyone. Prepare to have a lot of fun! read more

Terrible Experience! This venture was a huge disappointment not worth the harassment, time or the money spent. I will not be recommending it to anyone! The Story: I saw their glassblowing friendship ball class advertised ON FACEBOOK and thought it would be a fun thing to do with my 7 yo granddaughter so I clicked that I was interested. I followed up with a call as I wasn't sure being interested was sufficient to get into the class. Two days later I got a call back letting me know that yes I needed to sign up and to pay in advance, which I did. They charged me $10.00 EXTRA for my granddaughter, so $55.00 for her. The woman explained the "rules" and told me to be there at 10:45. The FACEBOOK page advertised the class for 11:00. So I had it in my head that the class was at 11:00 and I was to be there 15 minutes early, so 10:45. Unfortunately apparently she meant the class was at 10:45 so I was to be there at 10:30. The morning of the class I got a facebook reminder that I had a class that day at 11:00. When I arrived at 10:50 (so in my mind 10 minutes before class) three employees were in the store. When one asked if I was there to shop or for a class and I said "for a class" they began to berate me! They claimed I WAS LATE and that I KNEW the class was at 10:45 and that I had no respect for their schedule which I was now throwing into complete disarray. I was utterly stunned and quite shaken by their over the top harassment. When I explained things from my perspective (facebook is where I saw the advertisement and from where I got a reminder as to the day and time of the class) they claimed I should KNOW not to trust Facebook. I, the customer, was meant to understand in this vast and swirling world that their advertisement on facebook was inaccurate. They displayed truly stunning and enormously unprofessional behavior...and all in front of a seven year old excited to see the glass blowing. After wasting another five minutes berating me they finally relented and began the class. There were just the two of us so we weren't holding anyone up by our apparent tardiness. We followed all their instructions and requirements. The actual glassblowing was pretty ho-hum. You essentially watch while the glassblower does all the work while ordering you to stand here, then stand there, then blow into a tube that no doubt countless others have also had their mouths on. Perhaps this is standard operating procedure or perhaps we were being punished, I don't know. The whole thing took like 20 minutes so far short of the hour we paid for. Then we learned that we had to return the next day to get our balls. This is not mentioned ahead of time. Once back into the store one of the three women did apologize for the assault she and her colleagues had waged, but again reiterated that facebook ads cannot be trusted and all the shop owner know this. I am a customer, not a shop owner! We returned the next day to get our balls. My granddaughter was so excited to get hers and then So Disappointed to see it was nearly 100% clear glass with a tiny wisp of yellow and a tiny wisp of orange. It looked nothing like the friendship balls displayed on the wall of the shop. And then there was my ball, which had more color than my granddaughter's but was flat on the bottom, so not a ball at all. I would think they could at least get the glass blowing part right if not the actual smooth running of the business. But no, even that was a bust. The artistic and educational aspects I was hoping for were just not there. A huge, and expensive disappointment. read more

This mother daughter run business is super friendly and very knowledgable. The class is two hours long and you learn to make 4 different items. A clear flower, colored flower, paper weight and clear ornament. The items are taught in a way that builds on your skills so it is easy to learn. Being in the studio is mesmerizing with the bright orange glow of the glass furnace but be warned....it it HOT. Dress appropriately, stay hydrated and prepare for an incredible experience. read more
