Our first time to this place. We arrive first thing when they open. A nice lady introduced how it all work despite we did not make a reservation. Baking the pottery to give it a glaze actually take a week but we will be out of town. The lady was nice enough to give other options since we are leaving town tomorrow. Highly suggest visiting! We visited on a whim during school vacation and it was very busy. This didn't seem to be a problem for staff. There were a few people available to answer questions, and we had a bunch, they also helped to demo techniques and check in with us as time went on. We visited in the afternoon on a Sunday- it was not very crowded. The first floor of the studio seems to accommodate about 40 painters. There were probably about 8 tables, each with the capacity to seat 4-6 people. A fun activity for families, friends, or even a date, regardless of your artistic ability. There was pretty extensive water damage on the ceiling. I'm surprised that a business with so many child customers would not have this fixed, especially with the obvious possibility of mold inhalation or something falling from above. There is a gender neutral bathroom on the ground floor, but it does not have a bar/low sink for those in wheelchairs. Although I did not go upstairs, there is a party room there- sounded like there was a children's birthday party going on, and they seemed to be having fun. Unfortunately, though, the party room is not handicap accessible (unless there is a secret elevator I didn't see). I painted a small hedgehog to put in my garden ($11) while my friend painted an owl-shaped candle holder ($23 or $25). Items ranged from around $10 to about $50, and there is everything from plates and bowls to figurines and piggy banks. The ceramic items are displayed along the perimeter of the studio, with finished pieces sprinkled about as inspiration. There is also the option to create an item out of glass beads, which you place in your desired pattern and design to be fused/finished. We opted out of that, as it was a little more expensive and didn't seem quite as fun as painting. The associate in charge of the paints walked us through the process and explained that in order to achieve opacity, several coats must be applied. There is actually a wall of sample tiles, showing what one coat looks like, vs three. This was really helpful, as the color of the bottle does not necessarily reflect the finished color. There were probably over 60 colors available, including speckled and sparkly shades. Brushes, spongers, templates, pens, and other tools were readily available. Having smocks or aprons available definitely would have been a bonus! The radio was playing overhead, which was nice, but I think that Pandora or Spotify would be a good choice for the studio, as most of the time commercials were playing Of the associates on the floor was less-than-encouraging when offering advice. "You're not going to like that," "That's going to bother you" and "I can wash it all off" were among her comments. Mind you, she may have gauged our sense of humor and lack of artistic ability so it didn't really bother us, but for a more sensitive guest, these comments may be discouraging. I did, however, hear her complimenting the work of a child, so that was good to hear! We were there for about three hours. Time flies when you're having fun! I would definitely recommend arriving closer to opening for that reason, but there is also a "work in progress" option. You can come back to finish your piece within 7 days of your initial visit and the studio fee will be waived (Usually $7 for adults, less for children/seniors). A Tip: Studio fee is $7 for adults, but we found a BOGO coupon online. It is my understanding that the studio fee is dropped to $4 on Tuesdays . And there is also a $4 BYOB event on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Our items were ready to be picked up in four days and were not damaged at all in the finishing process. Items are paid for before they are finished and glazed. Cash and credit are both accepted. read more

I've been coming to Time to Clay for four years now and I love every minute of it. It's the tiny little ceramic shop you expect it to be. What sets Time to Clay apparent from chains and is other Nashua competers is not only the endlessly friendly staff who have solutions to any mistake you could possibly make, are excited to help you pick a piece of lace for your butter dish or will put up with you when you ask which shade of blue they like better, (Although I won't lie to you I wish they had any men on staff, it is an entirely female work force some of the girls young teens others much older adults, hey hire me Time to Clay) but also the speed as which projects are fired. I remember at other paint shops I've been to waiting more than a week for my project to be ready. Time to Clay often has my project fired the next day (great if you have eager kids) and if not I've never seen it take more than three days. I'm also a member of the frequent painters club, which isn't quite a bargain, but when you spend $150 you get $15 back, and when you're there all the time this helps and makes you feel appreciated. They offer summer classes for kids and adults. Adult BYOB nights, you're going to have a blast here. read more

I've gone to Time to Clay several times over the last 4 or 5 years. I've taken two of the classes and have also just gone in and painted some of my own servingware. I can't say anything bad about it! Their studio fees are reasonable ($7 standard adult, $4 during discount nights) and the prices on their pottery are also reasonable. I haven't tried it yet, but they've also recently added glass mosaic to their offerings, and the samples look amazing. Price-wise, they are less expensive than their other local competitor - You're Fired - by a slim margin (I think the one time I went to You're Fired, their prices were $1-3 more for studio fees and the actual pottery products). The environment is really bright & cheery with lots of samples of things painted around the room to show what's possible. There are lots of places to sit, snacks available for purchase, and no shortage of options and ideas of things to do. The staff are amazing - friendly, helpful, and always available for the customers. Deborah - the owner - is usually around somewhere and you can tell she is passionate about her job. If you are just there painting and want an idea - she'll give it to you! A few years ago I was painting a small serving plate and I had seen a technique on one of the demo plates I thought was interesting. She stopped whatever it was she was doing to show me how she had done it - very cool, very helpful. They do have an email newsletter that shows upcoming events, any specials (sometimes they'll have reduced studio fee coupons), and they are not overwhelming to your email inbox. For the classes - as I mentioned I've taken two. A number of years ago I took a class to paint a plate like a chocolate covered strawberry, and tonight I took a class to paint a plate with a spring theme (3 tulips). The classes are taught by Deborah and she does an awesome job. She explains everything clearly, answers questions when you have them, gives you individual attention, and will jump in and help if you look like you're having trouble with the project. Even the hardest projects seem simple the way that Deborah explains them. The fees for the classes include your studio fee, all materials & paint, instruction, as well as the snacks that they provide. They also allow you to bring your own wine to these classes if you'd like (they don't have a license so they can't serve, but you can bring it in). Overall - if someone is looking for an awesome place to paint pottery: I always recommend Time to Clay. The ONLY downside is that because it needs to be fired, you have to wait a week to take home your masterpieces. But that's not their fault - it's the nature of the product. read more

Very positive experience. The lovely lady that was working was so kind and helpful. She informed me off all the costs so nothing was hidden from me. I was alone with my three year old and making her something from the fused glass side... needless to say my daughter was very wiggly and wanting to touch everything ... the lady helped me out by grabbing her a huge bucket of crayons and a coloring book with out me asking. Our fourth grade is creating a tile wall as a parting gift to our elementary school. I'm the art teacher and the tiles were glazed under my direction, but we were pressed for time.
