Floor & Decor - Gorgeous! But I have nowhere to put it.

Floor & Decor

First time here. Went to Lumber Liquidators, but alas the inventory numbers were off, and I…read morecouldn't get what I wanted. So I looked online, and Floor & Decor had exactly what I wanted, on clearance! Woohoo! This is a GIGANTIC store. It seems to have literally EVERYTHING flooring that your heart could desire. I was enchanted by some of the tile. But I don't NEED any tile, so sadly passed it up. They have tile that looks like wood! And marble! I needed waterproof vinyl plank flooring to go over concrete, as apparently peel-and-stick requires a plywood base and is therefore more effort. The waterproof stuff is just click-and-lock, and can be cut with an X-acto knife. You can use 6-mil poly as a vapor barrier. This is for a small outbuilding, so 7 boxes should be sufficient. A very nice young man loaded the boxes onto a cart, and then put them into my car for me! Their prices seem very fair, although I just zeroed in on what I needed and didn't have time to fully explore the store. The tile selection seems vast. Best part: they're well-stocked, at least with what I bought. I'm fully confident that if I need another box, they'll have it in stock.

I ordered some tile online and went to pick up early in the morning. Staff was there to greet me…read moreand were very friendly, quick and efficient. Another staff member brought out my orders, loaded them into my car for me. They even checked with me to see if my car could handle the weight of both orders at once! Will definitely be visiting again with tile needs!!

ElkStone Basements

We recently worked with Elkstone to finish our basement in north Fountain, Colorado. We are very…read morehappy with the results. Pros: 1. The general manager we worked with, Luke Woodside, was exceptionally responsive and cooperative. We looked over the progress nightly and gave feedback regularly. Luke was always happy to work with us and incorporate our feedback. I could not have asked for a better GM. 2. Elkstone gave us discounts twice during the project. Once due to a better price we got on tile, and once due to a plumbing issue they made good on. 3. The salesman/designer we worked with, Chad Jarrell, was efficient and professional. His design only needed minor tweaks to match our preferences. The contract he provided was clear with no major surprises. 4. The overall cost (about $50k for about 750 total square feet) was high, but in-line with all other quotes we got. And the fact that they promised and did finish the project in about 5 weeks is incredible. Cons: 1. As with any contractors, we needed to keep a close eye on the project and give input to make sure everything in the design was met. This is not unique to Elkstone, but they are no exception. 2. There was an issue with the tile contractor needing to be a certain company that I did not like. 3. They said they would estimate the cost of permitting within $20, but they were off by well over $400. Not a huge deal, but annoying. Overall, I recommend Elkstone and would use them again.

We were initially satisfied with Elkstone's, but after a couple of years the work began to fail…read more Trim has pulled away from the walls, doors no longer close properly, and we are now dealing with cracking and buckling in multiple areas. The door jambs were not floated properly (and likely the flooring as well), which appears to be the root cause of these issues. We consulted a reputable contractor, who recommended that we contact Elkstone first before moving forward. That contractor ultimately provided a quote of approximately $25,000 to correct the cracking, buckling, and related structural and finish issues. We contacted Elkstone fully understanding that the work was no longer under warranty, but hoped we could work with them to remedy problems tied to the original workmanship. They told us they do not do handyman work and then stopped returning our calls. They do not stand behind their work, and the workmanship has not held up over time. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Please note that the warranty period is minimal and that Elkstone has refused to inspect the work and issues that we're having. We paid around $46,000 in good faith 10 years ago and Elktone has turned their back on us. Shame on them!

Let me share with you my experience,…read more Walter their salesman came out to give me a bid Once he found out that Home Depot had done the estimate already, he just used the amount of boxes which was about 80 for the estimate. He did no measuring or anything else. He was gone in about 10 minutes. (I needed only labor as I was purchasing the material from Home Depot.) Once we agreed on Price to have all the existing solid wood baseboard, removed the new floor put down and the baseboard put back. I agreed to the job. Pricing; I agreed on 50% down and 50% when the job was completed to maintain some control of the final product I'm very glad I did this. Their policy is to get 100% upfront, which I never recommend anyone for any service, ever do. The very next day after agreeing on terms with Walter, I got a call asking for 100% of the money I told this lady that's not what we agreed to and she said well that's what we normally do and I said you better call Walter. I'm gonna cancel the job. She did came back excepted 50% Overall, the subcontractors that came out from a company called Sun sunshine floors did a pretty good job putting in the material But it's the follow up , putting doors back on , getting trim put back on that was a real headache and took me almost 30 days to get done and also a threat of a complaint to get what I considered to be a very reasonable discount about $370 off my bill In the end, I fixed the existing problems myself because it was too much of a headache after they finally agreed to give me the discount Finally, a reminder again if you use this company, do not pay 100% upfront you'll have no control over the job over anything that needs to get fixed and you'll be working on their timetable, while they have all your money ------- Part 2 It's smart that Kelly took down her first knee jerk response to my above comment since is was inaccurate and not well researched. "Telling me I agreed not to leave public comment in agreement for the discount" -that was true if you accepted my generous offer.... the first go round. I'm going to guess that she finally got around to actually reading.... the 2nd email with my threat to file a complaint with yelp. Poof.....gone and replaced with boiler plate sorry we messed up and we should have done better. " Kelly, I wish you would have taken seriously my first initial complaint to your company and really taken the time to call me and find out what happened, Sincerely apologize, accept my generous offer and maybe even go a bit farther to make me happy and satisfied, If you had done so, we wouldn't be having this stupid engagement in the first place. Even after all that, I do hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
