I had a wonderful experience with Simin tailoring! I have a true hourglass shape which makes it impossible to buy items that are "ready to wear." This often leaves me buying items in a large size that require tailoring down. While finding great tailoring was easy in NYC, Charlottesville is really sore for quality tailoring individuals. Luckily, after looking into two other local shops, I discovered Simin. In this case, I brought a formal foxhunting jacket that was an odd fit and much to large (understand that getting a jacket taken in and extensively tailored is not a simple job.) The jacket done within a week and it was tailored beautifully! It honestly looks like it was custom made for me. I am a very impressed by the quality of work these ladies do. Five star worthy! Needless to say, I am a happy customer! read more

Thank you! They're highly skilled, with excellent customer service. It's clear they care about offering real value and building genuine relationships with their customers. I had a hard time finding the shop so make sure to walk past Lavender Spa and look for the small alley on your left. read more

2 vintage iron patio chair seat and back cushions needed a total redo after years of geriatric cats and general neglect. Ms Simin worked MAGIC! What a beautiful job. Now those old chairs are the best looking thing on the porch and everything else is going to need an upgrade. Fortunately, now I know where to take them. Thank you, Simin's Sewing! read more

Hemmed jeans and a floor length dress perfectly! The tailor knew exactly what I wanted and even remembered that I had asked to save the extra fabric from my dress. My clothes were ready before the date we had set and the cost was so reasonable for the alterations I had done. Definitely would recommend! read more

I find a beautiful dark orange lace shirt on sale! Ugh too big.. my husband suggest I still buy it and find a tailor shop.. well I found this one and I'm glad he suggested it! The shop is in a weird spot.. if you walk to the address with google maps it takes you to the pedestrian mall and you'll end up in front of a chocolate shop and a massage place. I was pretty confused so I call and I'm directed to the right side of the building next to the bank. I keep walking and I end up in an alley I think I'm in the wrong spot but I keep walking in and I hit the tailor shop! So weird. It was $15 to get this shirt taken in to my perfect shape! I love it! I just think $15 was a little bit too much but she did do it really fast I gave her 5 days and she had it done the next day!! read more

Shortened my bridesmaid dress from ankle-length to knee length and added some of that fabric to the very deep V neckline for a bit of modesty. It was pretty good - I wouldn't call it excellent but it was good enough read more

I tailored my suit here. Long story short, they did a good job. However, there were a lot of issues getting to that end result. I was told to pick it up on a Wednesday. I came in Wednesday afternoon at about 3:30 PM. They nervously looked around for my suit for about 5 minutes and couldn't find it. They first asked me to come back "later". When I asked when she said "this afternoon". It was already 3:30 and they would close soon. I came back the next day and thankfully they found my suit. I returned a few days later during business hours (about 1 PM) to get some shirts altered and there was a sign on the door that said "will be back by 12 PM". Overall their work isn't too bad; however, they definitely need to improve on a few things. read more

Simin did an EXCELLENT job altering a formal dress for me. Wish I had a before picture, but the skirt was loose and the fit was super awkward. She made it the perfect bodycon dress it was supposed to be, for only $40 and with only three days' notice! Will definitely be a regular - thanks Simin!! read more

I would give 0 stars if I could. Dropped off some dress shirts for tailoring at the end of April, was told I could pick them up early May. When I came in the first time in mid-May my shirts had not been done. I came back today (early June) and the shirts had still not been touched. When I asked for my shirts back so I could take them to another tailor, the young lady working started making excuses about her manager being sick and unable to do the work in a timely fashion. When I insisted that I still wanted my shirts back she changed her tune (and tone) and refused to give them to me stating that her manager needed to be present. It was only when I made it clear that I would not be paying for any alterations even if they were done today that she relented and gave me my shirts back. Incredibly unprofessional, uncomfortable, and overall bizarre experience. Not sure how this place has gotten so many glowing reviews. read more

So glad to have found Simin! She tailored my fiance's wedding suit pants beautifully (ever heard of an angled pants hem? Me neither, but at least one sartorialist on the internet swears by them and their dapperness and I can't say I disagree) and mended a pair of my jeans (on the spot, I should mention) all for way less than we'd anticipated. She seems to know her stuff and is kind and courteous. I appreciated that she declared my fiance's jacket in need of no alterations whatsoever, as I'm sure she could have benefited by suggesting otherwise. Will definitely go to her for our tailoring needs from now on. read more

Seriously the most amazing tailor I've ever visited. I popped in around 6pm desperately needing some pants tailored for an interview the next day. It was no problem at all and I was able to pick them up after 10am the next morning!!!!!! So good! Best $15 I've ever spent. I already have a huge stack of clothes to take in there after doing a big closet clean out. It is tricky to find but I kind of like it that way. It's like our little secret. read more

Let me tell a story about Simin's. I was new to Charlottesville and needed two dresses tailored in a rather short time frame. They finished the job with time to spare so I went to go pick it up. Warning #1...free parking close by during the day is unlikely. Simin's is kind of tucked in an alley. So I illegally parked, whoops. Warning #2...love you Simin's but it's CASH ONLY. So I ran to the Walgreens to get cash back. Apparently running turned off my mental math and I did not withdraw enough money. They said "don't worry about it, come back and pay us" #honorcode. A month later (whoops again) I return with the remaining balance and interest. I leave the cash with them and a million verbal thanks yous. Ran back to my, yet again, illegally parked car...and she had CHASED AFTER me, to give me change. When I insisted the extra was for them, she refused and requested a Yelp review instead. So here we are. Head my warnings, even though Simin's was incredibly accommodating with all my personal errors. read more

So wonderful! After looking all over Charlottesville for someone who could alter a women's suit jacket without butchering the sleeves (do not let other places cut off half of the button holes - find someone who can take it up from the shoulder!), I finally came in to Simin. They were not only able to do a great job on the sleeves, but also made the shoulders a little smaller, which I have always been told elsewhere is totally impossible. They did all of this in a very short time, plus hemming two pairs of pants (first time anyone has gotten it right on the first try since my legs are slightly uneven). Everyone was nice and, maybe I'm just not used to Charlottesville, but they charged me an alarmingly small amount of money for work that I have paid much much more to have done in major cities. Highly recommend. Ps. Yes, it is in the alleyway - coming from Main Street, turn left after Halo Salt Spa before you hit Water street. You might think "it can't possibly be in there...maybe I'm lost" but it is and it is worth finding! read more

Superb quality. I bike a lot so I ripped my pants one day, and I found this shop on my way home. The lady was super nice and felt bad for me and repaired the pants in a very short time. A couple weeks later, I had to get a blazer tailored and I stopped by again--this time it took a weekend and cost me about half what another store asked. Again, very short turnaround and superb quality. They open til late (7pm) and have really great prices. Highly recommended! read more

Great tailoring and the customer service is outstanding! I have had multiple items (pants, suits, jackets) tailored at Simin Tailoring and each time they make sure that everything is exactly the way I like it before I pay a cent. They fixed a horribly tailored suit of mine that I thought was beyond repair which was amazing. I would highly recommend Simin Tailoring and I plan to go back with any of my future tailoring needs. Cost is also very affordable compared to other nearby shops. Great place - read more

I came to this place to get a pair of pants hemmed, simplest job possible. They came back completely uneven and too short. I went back to complain and they said they could fix it -- they even lied and said they could fix the length. (I didn't see how that was possible, but what did I have to lose?) When I got them back again they were exactly the same! I had to take them to a different tailor to get them evened out (Gus' on West Main, which is the only place I'll go now), but they're still just barely long enough to wear. read more

I went to Simin to get my wedding dress altered. She couldn't have done a better job. The top was very low cut so she took the fabric that was taken off the bottom from hemming, and sewed it perfectly to match the shape that was already there. No one could even tell that I had it altered. I would trust her with any of my clothes. She knows what she is doing!! She even cleaned the makeup that I had accidentally smudged on the dress from trying it on at no extra cost. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. read more

Since this fiasco ( 2 months later) the owner has called me to apologize and I greatly appreciate the responsibility she took, she offered to pay me back however I told her that was not necessary. During the conversation she referenced my review and asked that it be altered or taken down. As a busy working professional I did not have time to do it on the night she called. She has continued to call me multiple times in a row. While I appreciate the apology and have put it in the past, I strongly advise to use caution with this business as I have noticed this week similar reviews to mine have been taken down to leave only the rave reviews I saw when I chose the company. To summarize: my brothers wedding was May 28, after several fiascos made by the ordering company I got my dress two weeks before the wedding. I chose Simins solely because of the reviews on Yelp. I had multiple phone conversations with Simins and was assured the dress would be done the Monday before the wedding giving them 2 weeks to do alterations. When it came time to pick up my dress my phone calls were not returned so I just showed up at the store. After looking for my dress for 20 minutes I was told that it was at "home" but ready. When I sent someone to pick it up the next day the dress was not ready. The man called me and told me the seamstress had to leave the country because of a family emergency but promised it would be ready the next day, then called two hours later to say it couldn't get done. I had to drive to Pittsburgh a day early and pay 200 dollars for alterations. When I took out the dress to try it on i immediately started crying because the dress had been cut unevenly at the bottom, zipper and fabric ripped apart and there was a run in the middle of my 300 dollar dress. read more

This was an absolutely awful experience. I'm still not sure what was worse about my interaction with this company, the service or the shoddy tailoring. The shop randomly closes without warning and does not respond for days, without a single sign of remorse or any regard for customer satisfaction. The tailors placed a safety pin through the front lapel and shoulder of a suit jacket and left holes in the material. More importantly, the quality of the work is unbelievably disappointing. A simple hem on the side of a dress shirt has already frayed and become undone in 4 wears. This place is a farce and I do not recommend it at all. read more

Very disappointing results. They took in a flowy high waisted style skirt that I bought from Anthropologie and when I came to pick it up, it had been completely ruined. The skirt was now too small, the zipper was sticking, and it was poofing out and bunching along the side seams. When I brought up my concerns, she acted like I was silly and that all of these things were not problems. I felt slighted and frustrated and will not be giving them my business again. read more

A friend gave me the name of the cranky alterations place (see my review). Never going back there again - especially since finding Simin Tailoring! They did a terrific job on a pair of pants hemming- not a tough job but they did a super job. I just popped in after their Saturday hours (open until 11am). They let me in and did two small items on the spot for a reasonable rate. And they did a terrific job. Moreover - they weren't cranky like that other place on Hydraulic. read more

I recommend Simin highly. They did a great job hemming pants and also altering a skirt. She also mended a torn seam for me while I waited, which was extremely kind. I also had a skirt taken in but then thought it was a little tight--took it back, expecting to pay to have it altered a second time, but she fixed it right up and wouldn't take any money for it. Great customer service, so I am now a loyal customer! read more

Fixed a tear in an illusion neckline at a very affordable price. Could not even tell a repair had been done!

The shop is in the alley next to Halo Spa. I recommend calling to make sure they are open when dropping off and picking up your garments. I had a suit taken in on one occasion and and two button up shirts tailored here on another occasion, both for work interviews. She asked me to try them on before leaving to make sure I liked how they fit, and made an adjustment to the suit jacket on the spot for no additional cost. The suit and shirts fit after the adjustments. Prices were reasonable (pay in cash at pick-up) and the garments were ready for pick up in a few days. read more

I brought in a couch cushion cover that was shredded, and the wonderful ladies finished the work while I waited! They were kind and professional. She went above and beyond and didn't even charge me for her amazing work. The couch cushion looks better than before! I will be returning. They are a little hard to find. They are off of 4th St. by Water St. down an alley. I had to call for directions. read more

They did a wonderful job quickly and for a fair price. It's a little difficult to find-- go to the alley off from the mall and you'll see the sign. Will definitely be my go-to place for alterations. read more

I recently had three pairs of pants hemmed and a linen jacket shortened. The alterations were superb and the customer service was excellent. Most impressive, however, were a pair of suit pants that I had split (not on the seam) rendering the suit useless. I brought the pants to Simin and they were able to repair them with not a trace of their work. This saved my suit! I have another similar tear in another pair of pants and will be bringing them to get fixed this week. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering they saved me from having to buy another suit. I strongly recommend Simin Tailoring. FYI, they are located in the ally off 4th street between Main St and Water St. read more

this place was awesome. they are open until 7pm on weekdays. i walked in almost before closing and asked to get two jobs done on pants: letting down seams to lengthen the inseam on one pair and then fixing the zipper on another. they told me to come back the next day. total cost was $20, and SUCH fast fixing. now i can wear two pants again! definitely recommend. they're a little hard to find. they are more on the water st side of 4th st in this little alleyway that has a sign. read more

I took a dress here that needed some slightly complicated altering. They did it in a more sophisticated way and for $40 less than I was quoted elsewhere in town. And it was done in one day. I will definitely return! read more

I took in a suit jacket that was a full size too large. The seamstress offered what I thought was a pretty fair price ($40) considering this was a somewhat complicated alteration (I sew, and had no idea how to do it myself). She asked when I needed it (one week), and said she would get it done by Monday, when I took it there on Friday afternoon! I called on Monday and she said it would be done that night. When I arrived Tuesday, she said it wasn't finished yet, which was a bit annoying, but I hung out on the mall for half an hour while she finished. She charged $45, but I didn't complain, because I figured that meant it had been more complex than she anticipated, although I wish she stuck to the quoted price. The jacket was tailored PERFECTLY. I would definitely go again. read more

Simin is absolutely lovely to work with and made my alteration experience quick and easy! She completed a perfect alteration to a bridesmaid dress in just 2 days.
